The paper starts with a short description of types of comparison in traditional linguistics. Some examples demonstrate linguistic on the lexical, phraseological and syntactical level. On the textual level, linguistic and intercultural contrasts are shown concerning terms of personal address in French, English, German and Japanese. Even more cultural differences can be analyzed within a culinary product from Denmark presenting quite different recipes for English, German and French cooks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Describes UN MENU FRANCAIS, a teacher developed-computer program for students of French, and points out the advantages of using computers in the second language classroom, despite the poor pedagogical quality of most second language software currently available.
