Based on materials obtained from fieldwork in three Chinese cities and data collected through online ethnography as a complementary method, this article investigates the relationship between Chinese trade unions and food delivery workers resisting the exploitation of platform capitalism. The article first analyzes the impact of the official character and structure of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) on its compatibility with delivery workers. Constrained by Chinese policies and regime, the ACFTU is absent from the collective action mobilization of delivery workers. Thus, it is shown that, by this absence, the Chinese couriers have opted for self-organization. However, while avoiding the role of mobilization, Chinese unions have responded and acted on the emergence of the couriers and the growth of their protest actions. As a result of these practices, some new union organizing patterns in platform capitalism have emerged in different regions. Whereas unions for platform workers, initially in the form of service stations, focused on providing welfare to workers, the actions of these unions are now shifting toward promoting collective bargaining. This article highlights that the ambiguous legal relationship between platforms and workers, the multiple outsourcing of Chinese platforms, and the geographical dispersion of outsourcing companies have challenged the ACFTU’s traditional union organization patterns, with the result that special unions have been created at different levels for couriers by innovating beyond the established system, abandoning the tradition of employer-controlled “paper unions” and potentially gaining substantive bargaining power. China has been spreading its tentacles across continents particularly sub-Saharan Africa and Nigeria. The objective of this paper is to investigate the influence of Foreign direct investment on the economic and political framework of Africa, using Nigerian as a case study. The foreign direct investments from China to Africa and particularly to Nigeria has not been received well in the pool of public opinion. However, the benefits the investment pool has on the economic and political framework is positive. Yet, researchers, believe that caution should be taken to avoid excessive FDI from China. The method of regression analysis was employed to prove the relationship between FDI inflow and annual GDP. The WTO is often blamed for not taking into account noneconomic values although article XX has occasionally been invoked to justify internal measures that were deviant from GATT prescriptions. This paper explores two contrasting modes of transmission of divinatory knowledge in contemporary Taiwan and mainland China. One is built on the academic model which emphasizes written communication and the other one on the teacher to student relationship which favors oral transmission. In Taiwan, faced with the declining quality of teaching and the multiplication of schools of thought, divinatory arts specialists tried to reform their knowledge and teaching methods to make them fit with the scientific requirements of contemporary society. This endeavor which had already been launched in mainland China in the Republican era, resulted in Taiwan in a boom of popular handbooks and a standardization of training. Then, I qualify this evolution through a case study conducted in mainland China which, on the contrary, highlights the importance of personal relationship and orality in the transfer of mantic techniques. The article focuses on the history of the hydraulic system of China. Topics include the connection between the hydraulic system, the social organization and the research fields in China, an analysis of how water is distributed in several villages in the Chinese province of Shanxi, and the history of the creation of hydraulic rights in this region. According to the article, villagers respect the rules on water consumption and in each household, women are the ones responsible to make sure these rules are applied.

The article presents information on several changes in Canada's clothing market due to trade liberalization since 1989. After the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the U.S., there was a remarkable increase in clothing exports from Canada to the U.S. After the lifting of quotas for all World Trade Organization member countries during 1995-2002, there had been a considerable increase in clothing imports by China from the Canadian cloth market.

This paper explores the power hierarchies that shape the reproductive health of Kam village women with the purpose of identifying key potential causes of reproductive morbidity. The analysis is based on one year's fieldwork undertaken in a minority ethnic village in Guizhou in southwest China. Data from women's narratives reveal the ways in which power hierarchies, including the sex/gender system, shape daily life, dominance and resistance as well as actual health outcomes. Findings demonstrate how the sex/gender system intersects with other aspects of the village hierarchy, and how both affect villagers' reproductive decisions and reproductive health. Suggestions are offered on how to improve women's sexual and reproductive health in Kam areas.
