Les mondes de l’écrit connaissent un investissement historiographique important depuis trente ans. Cet article propose une synthèse de ces avancées. Il se concentre principalement sur trois débats contemporains. Le premier, qui est le plus ancien, concerne la dimension supposément « révolutionnaire » de l’impression, interrogeant à nouveaux frais cette rupture à la fois matérielle, sociale et cognitive. Le deuxième s’émancipe des perspectives classiques sur l’histoire de l’édition et vise à montrer comment l’histoire du livre imprimé d’abord et celle de la lecture ensuite ont posé les jalons de plusieurs changements de paradigme contribuant à faire émerger un intérêt croissant et fécond pour l’information : la société moderne a-t-elle été une société de l’information ? Les enquêtes sur la circulation des nouvelles et les infrastructures qui soutiennent de tels flux permettent de renseigner cette thèse et de décloisonner plusieurs domaines de la recherche historienne. Enfin, le troisième et dernier débat porte sur des matérialités scripturaires plus fines – des marqueurs les plus discrets de la pensée à la diversification des supports – dont l’étude permet de mieux comprendre la façon dont les écrits modernes se sont coulés dans les structures labiles d’une société grande consommatrice de renseignements, de correspondances, de libelles, de journaux, de livres, de feuilles et de feuillets divers, bref : de papier. ‌Can the early modern society be understood as the first information society? The worlds of the written word have been considerably transformed historiographically in the last thirty years. This paper proposes a synthesis of the main advances in this field. It focuses mainly on three contemporaneous aspects, or debates. The first, which is the oldest, concerns the so-called 'revolutionary' dimension of printing, and questions in a new way this material, social and cognitive disruption. The second aspect departs from the classical perspectives on the history of publishing, and aims to show how the history of the printed book, first, and then that of reading, were based on successive paradigm shifts that have contributed to the growth of the interest in 'information'. Recent works on the dissemination of news and the information infrastructures that support these flows confirm the hypothesis of the emergence of a first information society during the early modern age. We will insist in particular on their methods, which invite to decompartmentalize in a profitable way several fields of historical research. The third and last debate concerns the finest scriptural materials, examined from the most discrete markers of thought as well as the process, modern, of progressive diversification of the supports during the period. Their study allows us to better understand the way in which early modern documents were included in the labile structures of a society great consumer of information under its various forms: handwritten or printed books, handwritten or printed newsheets, correspondences, etc.; a society great consumer of documents, and paper.

The understanding, modeling and prediction of failure in heterogeneous materials are important issues for many applications such as the resistance of civil engineering structures or rock detachments for example. Currently, damage models involve an internal length that is not yet explicitly related to the characteristic lengths of the material. The objective of this work is to study the influence of material heterogeneities on cracking processes using paper as a model material. Indeed, this material has the property to reveal its structure (fibers and fiber aggregates) by optical transmission and thus allows following the evolution of the damage during the rupture at lower costs. In a first step, the local structural and mechanical properties of the fiber aggregates were obtained from images acquired by X-ray tomography and tensile tests. Filmed tensile tests were then used to visualize the development of the fracture process zone and to relate its dimensions to the post-peak behaviour of the tensile curve. On the basis of this analysis, a novel method of calibration of the internal length was proposed on a non-local continuous damage model. The role of the different characteristic lengths of the material was highlighted by these results which were complemented by a study of the crack propagation statistics in a heterogeneous material using a Fiber Bundle Model that we have extended to spatially correlated random fields of rupture., La compréhension, la modélisation et la prévision de la rupture dans les matériaux hétérogènes sont des enjeux importants pour de nombreuses applications comme la résistance des structures de génie-civil ou les détachements de blocs rocheux par exemple. The present work investigates the creation of water-resistant and antifungal papers by using biobased compounds. Two approaches were developed: A surface modification by coating or a cellulose fibre modification. For the coating approach, two formulations were studied. The first one, consisting in chitosan and modified precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) was mainly used to limit the development of molds while improving paper water resistance. The formulation incorporating 20 % of modified PCC showed a significant increase of the lag phase of the target fungal strain. The second coating formulation, especially designed to improve papers water resistance by a coating layer of prevulcanized natural rubber latex, showed very positive results, leading to 95 % reduction of liquid water absorption but with a negative impact on the material opacity after water penetration. As a consequence, physico-chemical modification of cellulose fibre was investigated in a second approach. An hybridization process was used, leading to stearic acid adsorption on in situ PCC synthesized at the surface of cellulosic fibres. A compromise between fillers retention, water resistance and mechanical properties was found. After determination of optimal conditions carried out to an industrial scale up, an industrial pilot was performed and gave promising results., Ce travail de thèse a été conduit dans le but d’élaborer des papiers résistants à l’eau liquide et ayant des propriétés antifongiques, ce par utilisation de composés biosourcés. Deux approches ont été proposées : soit une modification en surface par enduction, soit une modification des fibres de cellulose. Dans le cas de la modification en surface, deux formulations d’enductions ont été étudiées. La première, composée de chitosane et de carbonate de calcium précipité (PCC) modifié, a été utilisée pour limiter le développement de moisissures et améliorer la résistance des papiers à l’eau. La formulation incorporant 20 % de PCC modifié a montré un retard de croissance significatif de la souche fongique sélectionnée en tant que souche cible. La seconde formulation, destinée à améliorer la résistance à l’eau des papiers, par enduction d'un latex prévulcanisé d’hévéa, a montré de très bons résultats, conduisant à une réduction de près de 95 % de l’absorption d’eau liquide. Toutefois, une perte d’opacité des papiers a été observée après pénétration de l’eau dans le matériau. Par conséquent, une seconde approche a été proposée, basée sur la modification physico-chimique des fibres de cellulose. Un procédé d’hybridation a été utilisé, permettant l’adsorption d’acide stéarique sur le PCC synthétisé in situ à la surface des fibres de cellulose. Un compromis entre la rétention des charges, la résistance à l’eau et les propriétés mécaniques a pu être proposé. Après détermination des conditions optimales de mise à l’échelle industrielle du procédé d’hybridation, un essai industriel a pu être réalisé et a conduit à des résultats prometteurs.

Contexte : Les fiches Urgences pallia (aussi appelées SAMU pallia, fiche de liaison ou fiche patient remarquable), sont des outils permettant à un médecin amené à intervenir en urgence dans une situation palliative d’en avoir une vision synthétique. Le manque d’informations médico-psycho-sociales dans la gestion de ces situations est délétère. Néanmoins, leur utilisation reste sporadique et aucune recommandation sur leur contenu n’existe. Le Plan National 2015-2018 pour le développement des soins palliatifs et l’accompagnement de fin de vie a fixé comme objectif de développer une fiche nationale.Objectifs : L’objectif principal de cette thèse vise à rédiger un outil commun de type « fiche SAMU pallia ». L’objectif secondaire vise à connaître son utilisation en France.Méthode : Via le répertoire de la SFAP, un questionnaire a été envoyé à 1883 destinataires (médecins ou structure) travaillant en soins palliatifs. Il a été demandé aux correspondants régionaux de transmettre ce mail aux services des urgences et de régulation du SAMU. Ce questionnaire ciblait l’existence d’un tel outil, le territoire couvert par celui-ci, son mode de communication ainsi que son utilité.Les différentes fiches utilisées à travers le territoire français ont ainsi été recensées. Leur synthèse a servi de base de travail lors d’une réunion du collège national des médecins de la SFAP, afin de proposer une fiche optimisée.Résultats : 245 réponses au questionnaire ont été retournées ainsi que 51 fiches SAMU pallia et 2 fiches de transmissions. Ces fiches concernent en majorité des patients vivant à domicile (88,7%), permettent de signaler 1 à 2 situations par mois et leur mode de transmission aux services d’urgence reste très hétérogène. 25% des sondés ne disposaient pas d’une fiche de liaison et plus de 87% des sondés souhaitaient qu’une fiche soit développée à l’échelle nationale.Conclusion : La fiche URGENCE pallia est désormais disponible et téléchargeable sur le site de la SFAP.

In our society known as 'information' since the speech delivered by Lionel Jospin in 1997, digital is becoming increasingly important in the personal and professional activities of individuals. previously accustomed to paper-based organizational practices, individuals must adapt their practices to digital media and face many difficulties; it seems that this change in materiality profoundly modifies the relation of the individual to the documents which are the supports of his professional practice. The field chosen for this study is that of the museum organizations. the document is indeed an essential element of the flow of information between the different actors involved around the same organizational process. the inventory of heritage, traditionally based on practices with a strong documentary component, based essentially on paper, will be the central object around which this study will be conducted. At a time when digital is invading organizations, museums are increasingly present on the web and scientific documentation, an essential tool for internal functioning and a vector of knowledge for the external public, raises the question of digitization. this study aims to better understand how the digitization of documents modifies documentary practices, and more broadly how the organization is impacted by these changes in practices. it will be a question of how the document helped to structure professional practices in the case of an activity traditionally based on paper and then to observe in the same way, an activity of the same kind, but which would rely on digital documents.; Dans notre société dite de ' l'information ' depuis le discours prononcé par Lionel jospin en 1997, le numérique prend une place de plus en plus importante dans les activités personnelles et professionnelles des individus. habitué jusqu'alors aux pratiques organisationnelles liées au support papier, l'individu doit adapter ses pratiques au support numérique et se trouve confronté à de nombreuses difficultés ; il semble que ce changement de matérialité modifie en profondeur le rapport de l'individu aux documents qui sont les supports de sa pratique professionnelle.le terrain choisi pour mener cette étude est celui des organisations muséales. le document, y est en effet un élément essentiel de la circulation de l'information entre les différents acteurs associés autour d'un même processus organisationnel. l'inventaire du patrimoine, traditionnellement basé sur des pratiques à forte composante documentaire, reposant essentiellement sur le papier sera l'objet central autour duquel sera menée cette étude. a l'heure où le numérique envahit les organisations, les musées sont de plus en plus présents sur le web et les documentations scientifiques, outil essentiel du fonctionnement interne et vecteur de connaissance pour le public externe, se posent la question de la numérisation. cette étude vise à mieux comprendre en quoi la numérisation des documents modifie les pratiques documentaires, et plus largement comment l'organisation est impactée par ces changements de pratiques. il s'agira donc de s'interroger sur la manière dont le document participait à structurer les pratiques professionnelles dans le cas d'une activité traditionnellement basée sur le papier puis d'observer de la même manière, une activité de même ordre, mais qui reposerait sur des documents numériques.

Sous l’Ancien Régime, l’administration coloniale, l’Église et le commerce ont produit une masse considérable de documents de toutes sortes : la Nouvelle-France n’a pas fait exception. Il n’y a qu’à prendre connaissance de l’abondance des actes de tous ordres que l’on retrouve dans les principales collections d’archives au Québec pour se rendre compte qu’en dépit de sa faible population, on a beaucoup écrit en Nouvelle-France même au XVIIe siècle. Quant au support nécessaire à ces écritures, le papier, la Nouvelle-France n’avait aucune industrie papetière, aucun moulin qui pouvait alimenter le marché : il a donc fallu l’importer puisqu’on ne le fabriquait pas sur place. Ces aspects n’ont jamais été étudiés jusqu’à présent. En dépit de l’absence de production papetière en Nouvelle-France à cette époque, plusieurs sources révèlent le nombre important de documents produits sur place. Notre recherche doctorale a mis en évidence la provenance du papier d’écriture utilisé au XVIIe siècle comme venant principalement des provinces françaises de l’Angoumois et de l’Auvergne. Notre corpus représente un échantillon de feuillets d’écriture originaux du XVIIe siècle provenant des centres d’archives publics, Bibliothèque et Archives du Canada (BAC) et Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) à ses centres de Québec et de Montréal. Nous nous intéressons également aux centres d’archives des communautés religieuses fondatrices, soit les Ursulines et les Augustines à Québec, les Archives de la Congrégation de Notre-Dame, les Archives des Jésuites du Canada et les archives des Sulpiciens à Montréal ainsi que les archives du Séminaire de Québec et de la collection Baby de l’Université de Montréal qui nous sert de corpus témoin. Notre recherche met l’accent sur le papier d’écriture exclusivement. Nous avons examiné et analysé les types de manuscrits suivants : des documents seigneuriaux, des lettres au sujet de la colonisation, des obligations, des contrats d’engagement, des minutes notariales, des transactions financières et commerciales, des documents judiciaires ainsi que des documents civils et militaires.Nous avons également examiné des dictionnaires, des vocabulaires, des journaux de voyageurs et des cartes. La méthodologie utilisée procède d’une approche interdisciplinaire, méthode qui emprunte au modèle historique (comparaison et discussion des sources), au modèle archivistique (typologie des documents) ainsi que des éléments de la méthode utilisée en sciences de l’information (critères de validité et de fiabilité et méthode de triangulation). Nous positionnons les mouvements de circulation du papier entre la France et la Nouvelle-France et nous nous interrogeons sur les circuits d’approvisionnement qui ont facilité son arrivée dans la vallée du Saint-Laurent. Notre recherche a aussi mis en évidence trois aspects interreliés au papier d’écriture, à savoir les usages auxquels il est destiné, les usagers qui le consomment ainsi que les diverses catégories de documents qui naissent de son utilisation. Notre étude se termine par une réflexion sur la matérialité du support papier comme document d’archive au même titre que le contenu du document., From the 17th century until the Conquest by the British in 1759-1763, there were neither paper mills nor printing presses in New France. This meant that the paper used onsite by the Administration, the religious communities, the merchants, the notaries and the elite had to be imported. The doctoral research project covers the provenance, trade and use of paper in New France in the 17th century. As paper was not manufactured in the colony, it had to be imported. In order to answer the question of the provenance of this paper, a body of data is being created based on original 17th century documents from various archival collections located in public institutions such as Library and Archives Canada (LAC) and Bibliothèeque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) Québec and Montréal regional centres. We are also interested in religious communities’ archives such as Ursulines and Augustines in Quebec City, the Congrégation de Notre-Dame, the Jésuites and the Sulpiciens in Montréal as well as the archives of the Séminaire of Quebec City and the Baby collection from Université de Montréal, which one is used as a comparative sample. The idea of commercial routes for the exportation / importation of paper from Europe to North America in 17th century is a new research topic and to my knowledge, no other research has been conducted on the subject. Added to this, the state of commerce within Europe at that time where countries such as England, France, Germany, Holland and Spain (just to name a few) were in competition to control the Atlantic and the New World economy pose extra challenges for the researcher. Our research focus on writing paper exclusively. We examined and analyzed the following categories of manuscripts: seigneurial documents, letters regarding colonization, obligations, hiring contracts, notary minutes, commercial and financial transactions, judicial documents, and civil and military documents. I also looked at dictionaries, vocabularies, travelers’ diaries, maps, etc. The methodology used is a combination of three disciplines: the historical approach (comparison and discussion of sources), the archival approach (typology of documents) as well as elements from the information science approach (criteria of validation and reliability and method triangulation). Our research focus also on the commercial routes from the French paper mills to the Atlantic ports to supply the colonial administrators, religious communities and merchants with the paper they needed to perform their duties to better understand the metropolitan/colonial commercial ties through the study of paper exportation in the 17th century. Our last chapter study the materiality of paper as a medium containing internal information that contribute to make the medium a document in itself.

The ambition of this thesis is to elucidate the process that leads the traveller to produce a compilation of graphic and written notes, photographs and documents. If this production is to be carried out during the journey itself, the traveller must think about the materials that will be necessary to the execution of the work, to catch reality. But a certain form of mental preparation is also necessary. The images achieved by travelling artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, William Turner, Eugène Delacroix, Félix Ziem, Paul Gauguin, Zao Wou Ki and, more recently, Titouan Lamazou, Georges Wolinski, Michel Montigné, Bertrand de Miollis, Elsie Herberstein, Stéphanie Ledoux and Nicolas Jolivot, are loose-leaf or in albums, which set out specific strategies aimed at acquiring knowledge about an environment and its inhabitants. The study of the ways and the meanings of producing a travel sketchbook throws light on the spirit of artistic and spiritual inspiration which was the driving force of the work. Back in his or her workshop, the artist retrospectively organises his sketches in the light of his or her experience, thanks to technical and artistic means. The travel sketchbook has become popular because its small format encourages an individual freedom to express within the framework of a book, whether private or intended for disclosure. For some professional artists, this size, which is used and kept secretly at home, proves out to be a summary of sketches and discoveries that will provide material for works, which may be offered to the public. The travel sketchbook is also an accretion of rough drafts, technical demonstrations and insights into its author’s psychological depths. Paper, as a medium adapted to travel, stimulates artistic and literacy research. It is at once plane and volume, instrument and narrative, time and movement, work and achievement. The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate how the travel sketchbook by performing these functions, can give a holographic account of a journey, and can thus constitute a work of art in itself.; L’ambition de cette thèse est d’éclairer le processus qui conduit le voyageur à produire un carnet de voyage rassemblant notes graphiques et écrites, photographies et documents. Si cette production plastique est improvisée sur le motif, le voyageur programme en amont le support et se prépare techniquement et mentalement, définissant ainsi sa capacité à capter le réel. Les images créées en voyage par les artistes – de Léonard de Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, William Turner, Eugène Delacroix, Félix Ziem, Paul Gauguin, Zao Wou Ki à, plus récemment, Titouan Lamazou, Georges Wolinski, Michel Montigné, Bertrand De Miollis, Elsie Herberstein, Nicolas Jolivot, et Stéphanie Ledoux – sur feuillet libre ou dans un album, informent sur les stratégies spécifiques de connaissance du pays et de rencontre des habitants. L’étude de leurs moyens et dispositifs de travail sur le terrain, éclaire la quête artistique et spirituelle qui les a mobilisés. Au retour dans l’atelier, l’artiste transforme les informations du voyage à l’aide d’autres savoir-faire techniques et artistiques. Le carnet de voyage est devenu populaire parce que le petit format favorise la liberté d’expression individuelle dans le dispositif du livre, à la fois extime et intime. Pour certains artistes professionnels, ce format conservé dans l’intimité de l’atelier, se révèle être un condensé d’audaces techniques, de premiers jets virtuoses et un compagnon de vie privilégié, qui est aussi à l’origine des œuvres destinées au public. Le carnet de papier adapté au nomadisme, qui stimule la recherche des artistes reconnus, tout comme la pratique spontanée du dessin et de l’écriture, devient à la fois surface et volume, outil et récit, temps et déplacement, travail et résultat. Ma thèse cherche à montrer que le carnet remplissant ces fonctions, devient avatar holographique du voyage et œuvre en soi.

In the mid-18th century, at the royal court of Gondar, the scriptorium of King Iyo’ās (1755-70) imported sheets of paper to make a lectionary (senkesar) in three volumes. Today, one volume remains in Addis Ababa at the Ethiopian National Archives and Library Agency, Department of Manuscripts, under the serial number 197. It is the only known Ethiopian Christian manuscript on paper. In Ethiopia, Christians copied their manuscripts on parchment while Muslims used paper. Craftsmen who knew how to work on paper, foreigners and/or Ethiopians trained by foreigners, made this volume. This innovative and ambitious project met the most sophisticated Ethiopian standards while introducing some novelties and adapting the codicological norms to the requirements of this new medium. The status of this manuscript was high enough to be part of the imperial library at the turn of the twentieth century and then included in the national heritage collection., Au milieu du XVIIIe siècle, à la cour royale de Gondar, le scriptorium du roi Iyo’ās (1755-70) importa des feuilles de papier afin de confectionner un lectionnaire (senkesar) en trois volumes. Il en reste aujourdvhui un volume conservé à Addis Abeba, à l’Ethiopian National Archives and Library Agency, au département des manuscrits, sous la cote 197. C’est le seul manuscrit chrétien éthiopien sur papier connu. En Éthiopie, les chrétiens copiaient leurs manuscrits sur du parchemin tandis que les musulmans faisaient usage du papier. Des artisans connaissant le travail sur papier, étrangers et/ou éthiopiens formés par des étrangers, confectionnèrent ces volumes. Ce projet novateur et ambitieux répondait aux standards éthiopiens les plus sophistiqués tout en introduisant quelques nouveautés et en adaptant les normes codicologiques en vigueur aux exigences de ce nouveau medium. Le statut de ce manuscrit était suffisamment élevé pour qu’il fasse partie de la bibliothèque impériale au tournant du XXe siècle puis qu’il soit versé dans la collection patrimoniale nationale.

These thesis works are within the framework of the ANR Photoflex (2013-2016), which aims to develop a contactless laser printing technology, in order to create updatable or permanent patterns of unique character on any types of supports, especially flexible supports. We report on a reactive magnetron sputtering-based deposition method to synthesize, at room temperature, photochromic nanocomposite thin films consisting of Ag nanoparticles sandwiched between nanoporous TiO2 layers. These films are deposited on flexible substrates such as a transparent plastic (PET) and a diffusing paper. We show that when the TiO2 is elaborated in the metallic sputtering mode, the nanocomposite film is colored due to the formation of metal Ag nanoparticles inducing a localized surface plasmon resonance in the visible range. In contrast, in the compound sputtering mode, the nanocomposite film is colorless because the Ag nanoparticles are oxidized during their capping by the TiO2. We have demonstrated that the colorless samples can be colored under UV laser irradiation (244 nm) due to the reduction of oxidized silver, followed by the growth of metallic Ag nanoparticles by coalescence or Ostwald ripening. Moreover, visible laser irradiation at low irradiances (few W.cm-2) of the colored films gives rise to changes in the particle morphology that modifies the absorbance of the films and results in sample color changes. We have investigated the influence of the deposition conditions (capping layer thickness of nanoparticles, TiO2 buffer layer thickness, Ag amount, holding time after Ag deposition, plasma annealing of Ag nanoparticles, multilayer) in order to optimize the photochromic effects in amplitude and in speed. All the mechanisms are repeatable during UV/Visible irradiation cyclic processes. For strong visible laser irradiances (several tens of kW.cm-2), we observed on nanocomposite films deposited on glass, color changes dependent on the polarization direction of the probe beam, related to the thermal growth and to the self-organization of Ag according to a periodic grating of nanoparticle chains. Contrary to low irradiances, the photo-induced colors are permanent and have a dichroic character. This study opens up interesting possibilities in terms of applications, including authentication and traceability of manufactured products, data storage, the new generation of datamatrix, etc.; Ces travaux de thèse rentrent dans le cadre de l’ANR Photoflex (2013-2016) qui vise à mettre au point une technologie d’impression laser sans contact, pour créer des motifs actualisables ou permanents à caractère unique sur tout type de support, en particuliers des supports souples. Nous rapportons la synthèse par technique de pulvérisation magnétron en mode réactif et à température ambiante de films minces nanocomposites photochromes constitués de nanoparticules d’Ag entre deux couches nanoporeuses de TiO2. Ces films sont déposés sur des substrats souples tels qu’un plastique transparent (PET) et un papier diffusant. Nous montrons que lorsque le TiO2 est élaboré en régime de pulvérisation élémentaire, le film nanocomposite est coloré en raison de la présence de nanoparticules d’Ag métalliques induisant une résonance de plasmons de surface localisés dans le visible. En revanche, en régime de pulvérisation composite, le film nanocomposite est incolore car l’Ag s’oxyde lors de son recouvrement par le TiO2. Nous avons démontré que les échantillons incolores peuvent se colorer sous insolation laser UV (244 nm) dû à la réduction de l’Ag oxydé puis à la croissance de nanoparticules d’Ag métalliques par coalescence ou par mûrissement d’Ostwald. De plus, l’insolationlaser visible (647 nm) à de faibles éclairements (quelques W.cm-2) de ce type de film ou des films initialement colorés donne lieu à des changements morphologiques des nanoparticules d’Ag qui modifient l’absorbance du film et entraînent une modification de la coloration de l’échantillon. Nous avons étudié l’influence des conditions de dépôt (épaisseur de la couche de recouvrement des nanoparticules, épaisseur de la sous-couche de TiO2, quantité d’Ag, temporisation après dépôt d’Ag, traitement plasma des nanoparticules d’Ag, multicouches) afin d’optimiser les effets de photochromisme en amplitude et en vitesse. Tous les mécanismes de photochromisme sont répétables durant des processus cycliques d’insolation UV/Visible. Pour de forts éclairements en laser visible (plusieurs dizaines de kW.cm-2), nous avons observé sur des films nanocomposites déposés sur verre, des changements de couleurs dépendants de la direction de polarisation du faisceau sonde, liés à la croissance thermique et à l’auto-organisation de l’Ag selon un réseau périodique de chaînes de nanoparticules. Contrairement aux faibles éclairements, les couleurs photo-induites sont permanentes et présentent un caractère dichroïque. Cette étude ouvre des perspectives intéressantes en termes d’applications, notamment pour l’authentification et la traçabilité de produits manufacturés, le stockage de données, les nouvelles générations de datamatrix, etc.

Since the early 1990s, there has been a tremendous new interest at the international level for researches at the crossroad between philosophy and psychiatry. This interest has been supported and quite stimulated by the foundation of a dedicated association, as well as by the establishment of a journal and the promotion of a new collection. My aim in this paper is to trace the origins of the so-called "new philosophy of psychiatry" field and to reconstruct its global intellectual dynamics during the past two decades. I try to identify, through the big diversity of the individual contributions, its dominant theoretical orientations but also what may appear as some of its philosophical blind spots.

This study is about the properties of the sets of objects associated in a structure resulting from multiple-processes involving chance as are materials whose texture is unordered and random. Being a paper scientist the author refers to the sheet of paper which is a stochastic fibrous set whose porous texture can be considered as an archetype for many natural or artificial human structures. The paper properties are correlated with its texture by taking account the effect of chance occurring during its manufacturing process. The theoretical developments, the formalism and the application methods presented in this study have a general significance beyond the only paper material.A specific property of sets of objects randomly unorderly distributed in space is their interfaces orientation distribution. This distribution is usually obtained by the analysis of images sampled in the object sets. The density of orientation probability of the fibers or of the texture interfaces, weighted by their length or by their area, can be interpreted as the radius of curvature of an outline or of a warped surface which characterizes, from a global and statistical point of view, the texture geometry in two or three dimensions. This figure named by the author the "equivalent pore", is with its elliptical shape similar to the one of the mean pore defined by the mean directional chord between the interfaces in the texture. Different methods of "equivalent pore" establishing are analyzed : by conformal map of the fiber network or of the texture interfaces, by images stereometric analysis of texture tomographical cuts, by scattering and diffraction of a laser light beam impacting the fibrous texture or the material surface replica, by hard X-ray absorption and phase contrast at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facilities(ESRF), in Grenoble. The "equivalent pore" concept allows us to study random unordered sets behavior in strength fields while simplifying this analysis. Thus a phenomenon occurring in a plane set, in two dimensions, can be analyzed on its "equivalent pore" linear outline, and a phenomenon which occurs in volume in a three dimensional set can be analyzed on its "equivalent pore" warped surface. This concept has been applied for physical, mechanical, optical and ionic conduction properties of materials like papers, boards, felts, nonwoven textiles, polymer foams, metallic alloys with grain joints, geological grounds, and for the surface mapping of natural relief and of materials with different gloss, worn or roughness levels.The ellipse and the ellipso\"id, as well as multi-modes compositions of it, are the most appropriate figures to represent the "equivalent pore" of materials with a random unordered texture. The fact that a law, which defines the curvature of an elliptic deterministic geometrical configuration, is essential to represent interface orientation allocation of elements whose spatial distribution is probabilistic is a noteworthy fact that makes us wonder. This assertion is corroborated by fluid flow analysis through porous media. The global dissipated energy for fluid flow is distributed along the motion (translation and rotation) and fluid deformation components on the "equivalent pore" whose surface is conformal to the texture interfaces tangential space. The porous media being homogenous and the fluid particles indistinguishable each ones from the others, due to permanent stochastic exchanges from one fluid volume element into another, we conclude that their motion quantification is invariant on each point of the "equivalent pore" surface. This quantification can be represented by a group of elliptical cylinders.The "equivalent pore" and cylinders group surface intersections define the fluid particle probabilistic paths in the porous media. One singular geometrical configuration of the elliptic cylinders group union with the ellipsoidal "equivalent pore" fulfills the minimal energy dissipation requirements in the stress field applied to the fluid. The resulting paths are ellipso\"ido-cylindrical curves carpeting the ellipso\"id by a beam of isoperim\'etric lacets, in close or open loops depending on the possible pairing off the curves in their nodals and isoclinal tangency points. The flow laminarity and unrotationality are globally established in the porous media at the macroscopic scale, for Reynold's number small values, in agreement with the results found moreover. The so defined ellipso\"ido-cylindrical curve is a stationary curve at the average least action meaning, for a punctual mobile or a deformable volume element moving on the surface of the ellipsoid from a nodal spot to the other in an antipodal position. This curve establishes a gauge which characterizes, from a global point of view, the physical space embraced by the fluid during its flow, in dynamical balance conditions compatible with the stress field. The ellipso\"ido-cylindrical curve allows to carpet the ellipso\"id as a function of one cyclic angular variable, which is a new construction for the ellipso\"id. When the set of the objects is isotropic the curve is sphero-cylindrical whose plan mapping permit to decipher the tai-chi figure of the Tao\"ist Buddhism philosophy.This study of random unordered object sets, and more specially of fibrous porous media, allows to establish a structural link between their small scale texture stochastic disorder and the harmonious order that emerges from these sets at a larger scale. The largest chance possible, compatible with the stress field which put a strain on these sets, is the necessary and sufficient variable which allows to best globally adjust their behaviors according to the probabilistic and deterministic laws governing their evolution.The vocabulary used in this study is issued from the common language, most of the time adapted to the material class, it is transposable in other fields of interest.
