A theoretical model for the micro-texture on the inner wall of the stator rubber in screw pumps was developed. The finite element analysis method was employed. The pressure and streamline distributions for warhead-type, concentric circle-type, and multilayer rectangular-type textured surfaces were calculated. The effects of textured morphology, groove depth, groove width, and other parameters on the lubrication field were systematically investigated and analyzed. A nanosecond laser was employed to process the textured rubber surface of the stator in the screw pump. Subsequently, a micro-texture friction performance test was conducted on the rubber surface of the stator in actual complex well fluids from shale oil wells. Given the results of the simulation analysis and experimental tests, the lubrication characteristics of textured rubber surfaces with varying texture morphologies, rotational speeds, and mating loads were revealed. Furthermore, it indicated that the irregular symmetric warhead-type micro-texture exhibited excellent dynamic pressure lubrication performance compared with concentric circle-type and multilayer rectangular-type textures. The irregular symmetry enhanced the dynamic pressure lubrication effect, enhanced the additional net load-bearing capacity of the oil film surface, and reduced friction. As the groove depth increased, the volume and number of vortices within the groove also increased. The fluid kinetic energy was transformed into vortex energy, leading to a reduction in wall stress on the surface of the oil film, thereby affecting its bearing capacity. Initially, the maximum pressure on the wall surface of the oil film increased and then decreased. The optimal dynamic pressure lubrication effect was achieved with a warhead-type texture size of 3 mm, a groove width of 0.2 mm, and a groove depth of 0.1 mm. Well-designed texture morphology and depth parameters significantly enhanced the oil film-bearing capacity of the stator rubber surface, improving the dynamic pressure lubrication effect, and consequently extending the service life of the stator–rotor interface in the screw pump. Screw pumps' faulty working conditions affect the stability of oil production. At project sites, different sensors are used simultaneously to collect multi-dimensional signals; the data fault labels and location are not clear, and how to comprehensively use multi-source information in effective fault feature extraction has become an urgent issue. Existing diagnostic methods use a single signal or part of a signal and do not fully utilize the acquired signal, which makes it difficult to achieve the required accuracy of diagnostic results. This paper focuses on the model-driven approach to extract multi-source fault features of screw pumps. Firstly, it constructs a fault data model (FDM) by analyzing the fault mechanism of the screw pump. Secondly, it uses the FDM to select an effective data set. Thirdly, it constructs a multi-dimensional fault feature extraction model (MDFEM) to extract featured signal features and data features, for which we also comprehensively used multi-source signals in effective fault feature extraction, while other traditional methods only use one or two signals. Finally, after feature selection, unsupervised fault diagnosis was achieved by using the k-means method. After experimental verification, the method can comprehensively use multi-source information to construct an effective data set and extract multi-dimensional, effective fault features for screw pump fault diagnosis. A number of bench tests have been carried out to study the centrifugal gas separator on viscous gas-liquid mixture. Calculation of the dependence of delivery on the developed pressure of a single screw pump at the angular speed of rotation of the rotor 225 rpm for different gas content has been made. Also, characteristic curves of gas separators of groups 5 and 5A at different gas contents and different viscosity of gas-liquid mixture are obtained. A methodology for bench testing of gas separators has been developed, which takes into account the influence of gas-liquid mixture properties, changes in the angular speed of the electric motor shaft rotation, and natural separation parameters. The operating parameters of a gas separator of group 5A were determined experimentally, taking into account a residual gas content of 50%, in the range of angular speeds of 252 – 1000 rpm (4.2 – 16.7 Hz). The effects of complex well conditions in shale oil wells on the swelling and tribological properties of high-acrylonitrile stator rubber used in screw pumps were investigated in this study. Tests were conducted considering the combined effects of immersion medium, temperature, and duration. The key parameters measured included mass change rate, volume change rate, hardness, elongation at break, tensile strength, surface micro-morphology of the rubber after thermal expansion and swelling, friction coefficient, and wear quantity. The results indicated that in the actual well fluids, the mass change rate of high-acrylonitrile rubber ranged from −1.08% to 1.29%, with a maximum volume change rate of 2.78%. In diesel oil, the greatest mass change rate of the rubber was 4.68%, and the volume change rate did not exceed ±1%, indicating superior swelling resistance. In both actual well fluids and diesel oil, the maximum decreases in hardness were 8.7% and 9.5%, respectively. Tensile strength and elongation at break decreased with increasing immersion temperature, with elongation at break in 80 °C diesel oil decreasing by over 50%, indicating a significant decline in the tensile properties of the rubber. The average friction coefficient of rubber specimens immersed in actual well fluids at three temperatures, as well as in diesel oil at 25 and 50 °C, decreased compared with the high-acrylonitrile rubber without thermal expansion and swelling. However, the average friction coefficient of rubber specimens immersed in diesel oil at 80 °C increased. The wear quantity of the rubber increased following immersion in both media. Additionally, the friction coefficient and wear quantity of the rubber increased with increasing immersion temperatures. Consequently, the adoption of precisely designed spindle pumps for thermal management systems emerges as a viable solution to meet evolving industry needs. Recognizing the profound impact of simulation tools on the design and optimization phases for pump manufacturers, this research emphasizes the significance of fast and accurate simulation tools. Transient-CFD emerges as a powerful Tool, enabling real-time monitoring of various performance indicators, while steady-CFD, with minimal simplifications, adeptly captures pressure distribution and machine leakages. Lumped-parameter approaches, though requiring effort in simulation setup and simplifying input geometry, offer rapid computational times and comprehensive predictions, including leakages, Torque, cavitation, and pressure ripple. Breaking new ground, this paper presents, for the first time in the literature, accurate simulation models for the same reference machine using the aforementioned methodologies. A mathematical model has been developed for separate alternate (dual) operation of two reservoirs by a screw pump equipped with an electric valve for switching between inputs. The model is based on the balance equations for the liquid volumes flowing from the reservoir into the borehole, moved by the pump, and accumulating in the borehole. The variation in downhole pressure, liquid flow from the reservoirs, and pump delivery in pumping and accumulation conditions for the upper and lower reservoirs is analyzed for different speeds of the screw pump. The efficiency improvement of Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs) is still necessary, providing them a valid contribution to the future of road propulsion, increasingly governed by regulations aimed at curbing CO 2 emissions. In this context, technologies related to engine thermal management, and more specifically to the cooling pump, offer a good potential. Screw-type cooling pumps, notably triple-screw pumps (TSP), emerge as a solution, demonstrating superior efficiency compared to centrifugal pumps at design and off-design operating conditions. A TSP optimized in terms of efficiency for the cooling system of a turbocharged gasoline engine was investigated. The requested high speed of rotation suitable for engine cooling to reduce size and weight led to the introduction of a new screws' arrangement, which improved pump durability and mechanical efficiency, but enhanced the impact of clearances on the so-called blowhole backflow, usually negligible for bigger pump sizes. Hence, a refined mathematical model capable to predict the new screw pump's performances was developed and experimentally validated. A stable and high mechanical efficiency (>80 %), and a global efficiency greater than 50 % even very far from the design point, were reached. During on-site operation under wet gas compression, the volumetric efficiency of a twin-screw pump decreases sharply, the temperature in the pump rises significantly, severe vibration and even jamming can occur. To solve the problems caused by wet gas compression structurally, a method for optimizing the design of a decompression screw is proposed in this paper based on the characteristics of a twin-screw pump and screw compressor. A fluid–solid multi-field thermal-coupling scheme is used to calculate the pressure, temperature, deformation, outflow, and volumetric efficiency of a screw pump before and after optimization. The average deviation between the calculated outflow and the experimental results was no more than 5%, demonstrating the accuracy of the calculation. After optimization, the return flow between the pump stages was significantly reduced and the outflow had increased. When the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet was 1 MPa, the maximum increase was about 18%. With an increase of the gas volume fraction from 95% to 99%, the average increase of the volumetric efficiency was about 14%. The temperature rise in the chambers at all levels and the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the decompression screw pump were lower than those of a traditional screw pump. The deformations at the three clearances were also less than those of a traditional screw pump, which helps to avoid jamming caused by thermal expansion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have been spotlighted due to the high efficiency, low cost, and easy accessibility. Despite their advantage, TENGs exhibit certain limitations such as a low lifetime. To overcome the limitation, the use of water–solid contact TENGs has been suggested. Most of the studies about water–solid contact TENG are focused on optimizing the device to adjust to the stagnant water or natural water movement. However, in most actual fluid machinery applications, the flow of water can be changed by mechanical components. The development of the water–solid contact TENG that actively changes water movement can broaden the application of TENGs. Herein, a screw pump TENG (SP–TENG) that can generate electricity by pumping water is developed. By analyzing contact surface area between water and screw in different screw rotational velocity and electrical difference from different electrode area, the device is able to optimize. The developed SP–TENG can light four light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) and activate temperature sensor. In addition, because SP–TENG can function as an active water TENG, it can enable the circulation of water to improve the ecosystem. In view of the fact that traditional liquid propellants cannot meet the design requirements of large-thrust flight vehicle, it has become a new trend to add nano-metal powder to liquid propellants to greatly increase density and specific impulse. In order to achieve the variable flow-rate and variable-proportion transportation of aviation fuel with nano-aluminum, a new type of solid-liquid mixing pumping system is designed, including powder conveying device, stirring device, pump and corresponding drive and transmission system. For the purpose of avoiding the frictional contact between the rotors, which will bring potential hazard to nano-aluminum powder, a non-contact twin-screw pump with synchronous gears is designed. Among them, based on the considerations of flow pulsation, volumetric efficiency and manufacturing difficulty, cycloid profile is adopted for screw rotors. After completing the functional design, geometric parameter design, structural design, 3D modeling, prototype manufacturing and preliminary performance estimation of the mixing pumping system, the performance of the screw feeder, agitator, screw pump was tested through experiments to meet the expected design requirements. The designed agitator can achieve sufficient mixing at 500 rpm in less than 10 s. Even though 50-micron clearances are designed with a relatively small rotor diameter, the volumetric efficiency of screw pump can reach above 50% when the discharge pressure is below 450 kPa and the flow rate is set as 10 L/min, the power of the screw pump is less than 700 W. This design facilitates the rapid real-time preparation of metallized propellants and provides a reference for further improving the design and control methods of nanoparticle two-phase flow pumping. Important effects on the performance such as dynamic losses, influence of the leakage gaps and presence and extent of cavitation are difficult to observe by experiments. However, it is possible to study such effects using well-validated computational fluid dynamics models. The novel-structured numerical mesh consisting of a single-computational domain for moving screw pump rotors was developed to allow three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics simulation of such machine possible. Based on finite volume method, the instantaneous mass flow rates, rotor torque, local pressure field, velocity field and other performance indicators including the indicated power were predicted. A calculation model for the bearing friction losses was introduced to account for mechanical losses. The geometry of the inlet and outlet passages and piping system are taken into consideration to evaluate their influences on the pressure distribution and shaft power. The paper also shows the influence of rotor clearances on the pump performance. The computational fluid dynamics model was validated by comparing the numerical results with the measured performance obtained in the experimental test rig through the comprehensive experiment performed for a set of discharge pressures and rotational speeds. Validation includes comparison of mass flow rates, shaft power and efficiency under variety of speeds and discharge pressure. It has been found that the predicted results match well with the measurements. The results also showed that the radial clearances have larger influence on the mass flow rate than the interlobe clearance. The correct design of the flow passages within the screw pump plays significant role in minimizing required power consumption. The analysis presented in this paper contributes to better understanding of the working process inside the screw pump and offers a good reference to improve design and optimize such machines in terms of clearance selection, shape of the ports, piping system, etc. In future, this model will be used for analysis of cavitating flows and determining performance of other multiphase screw pumps. In order to investigate the flow characteristics and the formation process of cavitation in twin-screw pumps, three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics numerical analysis has been carried out. A conformal structured moving mesh generated by an in-house code SCORG was applied for the rotor domain. The volume of fluid method has been adopted for dealing with the liquid-gas two-phase flow, while the bubble dynamics was handled by a homogenous cavitation model. By changing the rotation speed and discharge pressure, the intensity, distribution area and variation of cavitation at different rotor angle were obtained. The effects of rotation speed and discharge pressure on cavitation characteristics have been analysed. Calculation results with cavitation model are compared with the results without cavitation and the experimentally obtained values. The influence of cavitation on the performance of a screw pump in terms of the mass flow rate, pressure distribution, rotor torque and the shaft power has been analysed and discussed. For analysis of cavitation in clearances, a 2D numerical model which includes radial and inter-lobe clearances was used. A detailed study of the fluid flow and thermodynamic processes in positive displacement machines requires 3D CFD modeling in order to capture their real geometry, including leakage gaps. However, limitations in the conventional computational grids, used in commercial software packages, exclude their use for classical twin screw machines. The screw compressor rotor grid generator (SCORG) is a customized grid generation tool developed to overcome these limitations. This paper shows how it can be further extended to include non-conventional rotor designs, such as those with variable lead or profile variation and even internally geared machines with conical rotors. Other arrangements possible with this improvement include multiple gate rotors to increase volumetric displacement or dual lead, high wrap angle rotors for very high-pressure differences and vacuum applications. A case study of a water-injected twin screw compressor is included to demonstrate its use for both detailed flow analysis and design.

The electrochemical machining (ECM) is used to solve the difficult machining problem of metal screw pump stator inner hole; the mathematical model of electrolyte flow field in machining gap is established, and the distribution of electrolyte flow field in ECM machining gap of processing screw pump stator inner hole is simulated by using COMSOL simulation software. The simulation results show that, at the end of the machining gap, the electrolyte is not full, therefore setting up the added liquid hole on the cathode working zone by optimizing the cathode structure in the relevant machining gap zone to improve the distribution of flow field. Finally, the experiments are carried out which were conducted with different voltage and feed rate parameters; the test piece is sliced and measure it after the experiments, based on the measurement results to adjust the process parameters. The experiments result show that, when the processing voltage is 16 V and the feed rate is 6 mm/min, the distribution of electrolyte flow field in machining gap is more uniform, and the test piece size reached the product requirements. Fluid flow in a screw pump which rotates at very high angular velocity is numerically analyzed. In the present study, fluid flow in screw pumps under high Reynolds number, of the order of 10, is considered. Screw pump has two major elements, a plain shroud which is a stationary element and a rotating hub with helical grooves contained within the shroud. In this paper, three variants of hubs with different number of thread starts numbering six, eight and twelve in combination with a plain shroud is studied. Each of the three possible combinations are analyzed on the basis of pressure rise developed, efficiency and shaft power. Önerilen ARM, 6/4 kutuplu, 3 fazlı olup manyetik olmayan malzemeden yapılmıs vida rotor, manyetik rotor parçaları arasına yerlestirilmis ve pompanın rotor yapısı elde edilmistir. Statorda her faz için akı yoluna yerlestirilmis 2000 sarımlı 4 sargı vardır. Vida rotor manyetik kuplaja dahil degildir. Burada pompa rotorunun kendisi dogrudan tahrik uygulamasında bir hareketlendiricidir. Bu sistem VP-ARM olarak isimlendirilmistir. VP-ARM'nin endüktans, tork, güç ve manyetik akı gibi elektriksel ve manyetik büyüklükleri analitik olarak hesaplanmıs ve sonlu elemanlar yöntemiyle (Ansoft Maxwell 3D) ile tahmin edilmis; önerilen sistemin mekanik ve dinamigi incelenmemistir. Rotorun kendisinin özellikle bir hareketlendirici oldugu dogrudan tahrik uygulamasında VP-ARM ayrıca bir sürücü motorun, kaplinlerin ve devir ayarlama elemanlarının kullanılmaması üstünlügü ile cazip bir seçim olarak gözükmektedir.

This study presents an analytical flow model for the screw pump and compares it with the numerical simulations for the lubrication system of a variable speed hermetic reciprocating compressor used mainly in household refrigerators Since variable capacity compressors (VCC) can be operated at different rotational speeds, a sufficient lubrication is required even at low rotational speeds where centrifugal effects are at a minimum. The lubrication system of such compressors includes a screw pump inside their crankshaft for this purpose. Using the analytical flow model, effects of the main design parameters for the screw pump to maximize the mass flow rate of the lubricant released from the upper part of the crankshaft are predicted and compared with numerical results. Specifically, the effects of the rotational speed, the oil viscosity, the submersion depth of the crankshaft m the oil sump and screw aspect ratio are investigated in this paper. A method for calculating the pressure gradient during transportation of sapropel of natural viscosity through a pipeline of circular cross-section is described. The rheological properties of sapropel allow considering it a viscoplastic fluid. It is worthy of studying the effect of water content in crude oil on tribological behavior of stator rubber, because the different water content would affect the swelling and wear of rubber. Compatibility of dewatered crude oil and water was observed after mixture of dewatered crude oil and water (called oil-water mixture) was mechanical stirred and statically placed. Static etching experiment of samples in oil-water mixture was performed using hanging patch test. Wetting contact angle of oil-water mixture on rubber surface was measured by contact angle meter. Tribological behavior of samples in mixture was measured using a ring-on-block tester. The result shows that when the water content is less than 15 %, water can blend with dewatered crude oil, and oil-water separation happens when water content was more than 15 %. With the increasing of water content in crude oil, Wettability of mixture and swelling increment of samples decrease. The wear loss of sample increases after treated by swelling experiment, and FKM owns better wear resistance than NBR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The performance of twin-screw pumps that are widely used in industry hinges upon a number of factors. In this research, a systematic approach is presented, encompassing the design optimization of a Type-A screw and the subsequent performance evaluation of a twin-screw pump. We first investigate the effect of involute meshing angle on the contact line properties of the Type-A screw, and carry out design optimization. We then formulate a flow field analysis of the twin-screw pump using the screw tooth profiles and spiral surfaces under the optimal involute angles obtained, and analyze the pressure field, velocity field and other characteristics of the pump. The influence of contact line on the pump sealing property is also assessed. Concurrent with the numerical study, experimental investigation is performed to evaluate the rotating speed and power of the pump, as well as their intrinsic relations with the flow, pressure and power of the screws. These studies reveal that under the optimal design of the screw, the pump performance can be significantly improved. The methodology of design and analysis outlined in this research can be applied to other screw pumps, and the results of parametric analysis involved can shed lights on the development of screw pumps in general. Abstract: The vortex patterns of the secondary flow in a curved duct of square cross-section are numerically investigated. The flow is driven by the axial pressure gradient as well as the walls rotation of the duct except the outer wall around the center of curvature. When the rotation is in the same direction as the negative pressure gradient, the secondary flow shows complicated multiple patterns, which consists of two-vortex, four-vortex, eight-vortex or even non-symmetric secondary flow pattern. An analysis of linear stability on the flow is also carried out to distinguish possible flow patterns among multiple steady solutions. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

When both, a low operating pressure and an extremely low pulsation is required screw pumps can be better than other machines. Due to their low pulsation, low noise level, good suction ability and high reliability, screw pumps are often the best solution. It is shown in this paper that pumps can vary in pressure pulsation very much depending on manufacturing deviations. Therefore this paper deals with a simulation model, which was verified by experimental tests. Then the calculated pressure pulsation according to cylindrical, conical and eccentric deviation in dimension of the manufactured parts from the design is presented. Precisely, each difference in pulsation characteristic can be explained with manufacturing deviations. Three screw pumps are very sensitive to eccentricity and pressure pulsation can be reduced by using the optimal length of the drive spindle. Abstract: In the investigation of the pumping behaviour of multiphase screw pumps, handling gas–liquid mixtures with very high gas volume fractions, theoretical and experimental analyses were performed. A new theoretical screw pump model was developed, which calculates the time-dependent conditions inside the several chambers of a screw pump as well as the exchange of mass and energy between these chambers. By means of the performed experimental analysis, the screw pump model was verified, especially at very high gas volume fractions from 90% to 99%. The experiments, which were conducted with the reference fluids water and air, can be divided mainly into the determination of the steady state pumping behaviour on the one hand and into the analysis of selected transient operating conditions on the other hand, whereas the visualisation of the leakage flows through the circumferential gaps was rounded off the experimental analysis. A model for the effect of two-phase liquid on pump seals is developed based on vortex bursts near the surface of lip seals and the generation of sound waves in the liquid. It is experimentally found that these waves can destroy the contact surfaces of lip seals if the frequency of vortex bursts reaches the frequency of natural transverse acoustic oscillations. Magnetically driven screw pumps were designed and fabricated for pumping biological fluids. The magnetic field simulations for three different magnetic coupling arrangements were obtained numerically. The force and torque for the three arrangements were computed. During on-site operation under wet gas compression, the volumetric efficiency of a twin-screw pump decreases sharply, the temperature in the pump rises significantly, severe vibration and even jamming can occur. To solve the problems caused by wet gas compression structurally, a method for optimizing the design of a decompression screw is proposed in this paper based on the characteristics of a twin-screw pump and screw compressor. A fluid-solid multi-field thermal-coupling scheme is used to calculate the pressure, temperature, deformation, outflow, and volumetric efficiency of a screw pump before and after optimization. The average deviation between the calculated outflow and the experimental results was no more than 5%, demonstrating the accuracy of the calculation. After optimization, the return flow between the pump stages was significantly reduced and the outflow had increased. When the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet was 1 MPa, the maximum increase was about 18%. With an increase of the gas volume fraction from 95% to 99%, the average increase of the volumetric efficiency was about 14%. The temperature rise in the chambers at all levels and the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the decompression screw pump were lower than those of a traditional screw pump. The deformations at the three clearances were also less than those of a traditional screw pump, which helps to avoid jamming caused by thermal expansion.
