The resin-coating technique, in which exposed dentin surfaces are covered using a thin-film coating material, was approved in the Japanese public health insurance system in December 2019. The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinical cases treated using the resin-coating technique with Hybrid Coat II (HC II) after tooth preparation on vital teeth. A total of 134 cases from patients who visited nine dental clinics were examined from the clinical records. Clinical signs and symptoms of cases before, during, and after treatment and at the time of recall were evaluated. The resin-coating was applied as either a single application with HC II (86.6%) or a combined application of HC II and a flowable resin composite (13.4%). The success rate without any symptoms of sensivity to cold water was 92.5% (124 cases). The current results indicated that the resin-coating with HC II is a reliable treatment for the tooth preparation of vital teeth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Veneer is a layer of tooth colored material that is applied to a tooth to restore a localized or generalized defect and intrinsic discoloration. This case report describes closure of midline diastema using porcelain laminate veneers. Advances in the bonding between porcelain and tooth structure make this treatment a fantastic alternative to restore teeth with alteration in shape and position; severe discoloration and in cases where the aesthetic demand is high. The rationale for various choices in this treatment protocol is detailed with reference to the pertinent literature. Purpose: This study evaluated the effect of surface treatments of the prepolymerized adhesive layer in the immediate dentin sealing technique (IDS) on the microtensile bond strength of two-step etch-and-rinse adhesive systems. Materials and Methods: The occlusal dentin surfaces of 60 human third molars were exposed and Adper Single Bond 2 (SB) or Prime & Bond NT (PB) adhesive systems were applied (control groups). Immediately afterwards, the temporary cement RelyXTemp NE was applied on the bonded dentin surface, and the teeth were stored in artificial saliva for 48 h or 4 months. After the storage time, the temporary cement layer was removed and the following surface treatments were applied: aluminum oxide (AO), 37% phosphoric acid (PA), or AO+PA. Next, a second adhesive layer was applied for each adhesive system, and a composite resin block restoration (Z250) was built. The specimens were cut and submitted to microtensile strength (μTBS) testing. The adhesive layer thickness (ALT) was evaluated in other specimens from all groups by SEM. The fracture pattern was evaluated in all sticks tested by SEM. μTBS and ALT values were analyzed with two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (α = 0.05). Results: The highest μTBS, similar to the control, was obtained with aluminum oxide and phosphoric acid (AO+PA) for both adhesives systems. The use of aluminum oxide alone (AO) or associated with phosphoric acid (AO+PA) showed values close to those of the control groups in relation to the ALT. The failure pattern was the same for control groups and AO +PA groups. Conclusion: Dentin prehybridization can improve the adhesive bond strength if the bonded surface is treated with airborne aluminum oxide particle abrasion associated with 37% phosphoric acid, followed by application of a second adhesive layer. Purpose The aim of this article is to review available literature on the clinical procedure of immediate dentine sealing for indirect bonded restorations. Study selection More than 40 articles reporting the technique, studies, outcomes, etc. were reviewed after PUBMED/MEDLINE search, most of them addressing the specific situation of dentin bonding for indirect restorations. Results It is known that tooth preparation for indirect bonded restorations can result in significant dentin exposures. Immediate application and polymerization of the dentin bonding agent to the freshly cut dentin, prior to impression making is therefore recommended by some authors. Literature indicates that this procedure, immediate dentine sealing (IDS) , appears to achieve improved bond strength, fewer gap formations, decreased bacterial leakage, and reduces post-cementation sensitivity. This rational approach to adhesion is also reported to have a positive influence on tooth structure preservation, patient comfort, and long term survival of indirect bonded restorations. Conclusion In the extensive literature regarding advantages of using IDS technique significant differences have been shown when compared to Delayed Dentine Sealing. It has been proposed that a resin coating can serve as a means to protect dental structure after preparation of the tooth for indirect restorations, sealing the exposed dentin. The resin coating is applied on the cut surfaces immediately after tooth preparation and before making an impression by assembling a dentin bonding system and a flowable composite. Resin coatings minimize pulp irritation and improve the bond strength between a resin cement and tooth when bonding the restoration to tooth. Recently, thin-film coating dental materials based on all-in-one adhesive technology were introduced for resin coating of indirect restorations. The thin coating materials are applied in a single clinical step and create a barrier-like film layer on the prepared dentin. The thin coatings play an important role in protecting the dentin from physical, chemical, and biological irritation. In addition, these thin-film coating materials reportedly prevent marginal leakage beneath inlays or crown restorations. In light of the many benefits provided by such a protective layer, these all-in-one adhesive materials may therefore also have the potential to cover exposed root dentin surfaces and prevent caries formation.
