A system for the accounting of road infrastructure facilities' parameters specified during design and construction of motor roads. A study of parameters' condition was performed. Analysis of road accident rate statistics and identification of parameters to assess the efficiency of the proposed road construction activities aimed at the reduction in the number of road accidents were carried out. Actual data on condition parameters with the use of modern automated multi-functional diagnostic equipment were obtained. Actions aimed at the improvement of road infrastructure parameters through traffic safety enhancement, as well as actions aimed at the reconstruction of the motor road or project-supported construction of road segments were developed. Efficiency of the proposed actions was assessed.

In the article, a necessity to improve the system for accounting of parameters for additional factors of technical condition of vehicles and road environment facilities allowed for during design and construction of motor roads is substantiated. A procedure for the determination of circumstances and causes of road accidents, taking into account transport, technical and operating conditions, has been developed. An improved algorithm of expert examination with the application of a non-destructive method with use of diagnostic equipment of dynamic impact is offered. The accounting system includes an algorithm of expert examination of road accidents which provides parametric characteristics of objects and conditions for their existence to ensure procedure functioning. Criteria to identify "weak"sections of motor roads are proposed. A model for the implementation of expert examination taking into account parameters of the subsystem "Vehicle–Road" is proposed. A possibility to determine the risk of road accidents, "weak" sections of operated motor roads, development of an automated data base on motor roads, application of research results in expert opinions upon analysis and reconstruction of road accidents is substantiated.

This study was designed to assess lead content in soil and two vegetable species collected from several sites in Baghdad. The results showed that Swiss chard had lead content varied from 0.930 ± 0.23 µg/g to 1.988 ± 0.42 µg/g and these data were higher than those found in celery which ranged from 0.216 ± 0.08 µg/g to 0.935 ± 0.22 µg/g. In case of celery plants cultivated in both Al- Autyfia and Al- Qanat sites, lead content has been found to be affected significantly ( P≥ 0.5) by the distance from motor road where higher content was found in plants closed to motor verge than those 15 meter away. For soil lead content, the results showed that lead content was almost two times greater than those of vegetable plant and again lead concentration was affected by the distance from the motorway verge in both sites where lead content varied from 1.512 ± 0.42 µg/g to 2.279 ± 1.04 µg/g and from 2.102 ± 0.82 µg/g to 2.656 ± 0.62 µg/g in Al- Autyfia and Al- Qanat samples respectively. However, these data in celery plants ranged from 1.389 ± 0.36 µg/g to 1.607 ± 0.88 for Al- Autyfia and from 1.359 ± 0.68 µg/g to 1.582 ± 0.92 µg/g for Al- Qanat cultivated yard.

The analysis of consolidation process of condensed water-saturated clay soils of the floodable bridge-approach fill to the bridge across Kama River, erected by method called «Intensive technology», is presented. The method consists in the arrangement of drainage longitudinal and cross-section cuts for acceleration of consolidation of soils of the road bad and the base composed from the weak, strongly compressible water-saturated clay soils of different consistency.

The state of hot mix asphalt pavement and its structure, predetermined by the distress level, largely depends on the functional conditions. The factors predetermining the functional conditions and service life of hot mix asphalt pavement and its structure are discussed in the present article: traffic loads, local climate and weather conditions, local soils (their properties), and other local factors (soil water level and moisturizing conditions, etc.). It is shown that the state of the road pavement and its structure expressed in the distress level, the roughness of hot mix asphalt pavement strength, expressed by strength coefficient Kst, largely depends on the componential composition of the upper layer of hot mix asphalt pavement and its physical and mechanical properties. The article contains recommendations for maintaining the required state of hot mix asphalt pavement and its structure (when D ≤ 8%) and for renewal of the service life of the pavement and its structure.

Introduction: the methods of roadside service network development implemented in Belarus were identified. Structure, architectural and spatial solutions, and general functional zoning of a service facility territory were considered for the roadside service facilities located along Belarus main motor roads. The study aims at the revelation of typological features of roadside service network elements in Belarus and their structure-based classification as well as the development of the main provisions on the formation of these facilities based on the current situation analysis and prospective lines of building up a service system in the areas of influence of national importance roads. Materials and methods: the work was carried out through systematization, structural and comparative analyses, theoretical synthesis of the data obtained from the detailed analysis of literature and statistical sources, field surveys of roadside service facilities located along the national-importance roads in Belarus. Likewise design estimation documentation for the constructed facilities was applied. During the field surveys, photo fixation and graph-analytic analysis methods were used. Results: the article suggests the classification of roadside service facilities, reveals the methods of network development, considers functional zoning and offers a concept of prospective formation of the facilities in Belarus. Conclusions: theoretical and methodological foundations of the facility formation were developed, which allows accomplishing more reasonable and objective decisions regarding the development of the roadside service network. The developed classification allows defining new approaches to the formation of the network individual elements. The suggested concept of a modular system for the prospective formation of the roadside service in Belarus can form a basis for the initial build-up and temporary transformation of the facilities and the system as a whole and can be used to develop regulatory requirements for their planning structure and architectural and spatial solution.

The aim of the investigation is the analysis of strengthening systems of road surfaces situated at the weak subgrade. The paper presents three systems of strengthening of road surface using geotextiles. The results of the analysis of road surface deformation moduli values are discussed. The value of deformation modulus on the basis of measurements of vertical displacements of loaded road surface was calculated. The investigations at the proof ground of road surface was executed. Particular efficiency of the use of GEOWEB cellular mattress as strengthening of road surface was confirmed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Traffic safety mainly depends on vehicles, pedestrians and road infrastructure. On highways, the heaviest traffic accidents are associated with crossing of the dividing strips by a vehicle and its collision with side obstacles on the junction or road bridge exit. These accidents often occur, when vehicles, running at a high speed, collide with obstacles, which may cause human injuries. In such cases, the probability of fatalities or heavy injuries to people in a traffic accident is very high. Road traffic infrastructure plays an important part in ensuring traffic safety on urban roads and highways. It includes guardrails, speed bumps, pedestrian safety islands, traffic regulation systems, road information infrastructure, etc. Guardrail (known as civil engineering element and traffic safety element) installation may help to reduce the number of human injuries and fatalities caused by traffic accidents. Guardrails of various types are installed on the roads of Lithuania and Ukraine. Guardrails, consisting of metal posts of the profile Σ and a protective beam of the profile W, i.e. ‘double-wave guardrails’, are among the most commonly used ones. The authors of this paper present the analysis of the deformation state of a double-wave guardrail (describing the strains and stresses of its elements).
