Zbirka pjesama dubrovačkog pjesnika Frana Gundulića (1587 – 1629) sačuvana je u rukopisu pod naslovom Francisci Gondolae carminum et Junii Antonii Restii orationum liber i čuva se u Arhivu HAZU u Zagrebu (I a 55). Rukopis na latinskom jeziku datiran je 1607. godine, a osim pjesama Frana Gundulića sadržava i govore tradicionalno pripisane Džonu Rastiću. Unutar te pjesničke zbirke nalazi se i petnaest primjera emblematskog pjesništva, a oni će biti i osnovna tema ovoga rada. No najprije će se ukratko navesti dostupni podaci o njihovu autoru i o rukopisu unutar kojeg se nalaze te reći nešto o žanrovskim odrednicama emblema općenito i o specifičnim karakteristikama i tematici Gundulićevih rukopisnih emblema. Uz transkripciju teksta emblema naznačit će se problem »transkripcije « crteža koji je, kao i tekst, kodikološki element., A collection of poems by the Dubrovnik writer Frano Gundulić (1587-1629) exists in manuscript under the title Francisci Gondolae carminum et Junii Antonii Restii orationum liber and is kept in the Archives of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Zagreb (I a 55). Written in Latin, the manscript is dated 1607 and as well as the poems of Frano Gundulić contains orations traditionally ascribed to Džono Rastić. In the collection of poems by Gundulić there are fifteen examples of emblematic poetry, ten of them composed in Phalacean hendecasyllabics and five in elegiac couplets. Each of the poems has a tripartite structure. It consists of title and explanation of the main motif of the Christian subject matter, devoted to the Virgin Mary, then a drawing (an emblem in the strict sense) and verses (between six and eight) which elaborate on the given motif. These emblems are specific in that alongside the title they give instructions to the author of the drawing about what has to be drawn. The emblem is first defined in terms of genre, the founder of which is reckoned to be Italian humanist Andrea Alciato, the many editions of whose Emblemata (1st edition 1531) influenced all the later writers. Although in European terms the emblem was very popular in the 16th and 17th centuries, the emblematic poems of Frano Gundulić are probably the first example of it in the region of Croatia, particularly among the meridional Croatian writers, who were more inclined to more traditional forms. As genre, the emblem can be compared with some other poetic forms, such as the anagram or the riddle, the main proponent of which in Croatian is Pavao Ritter Vitezović. All the poems are transcribed and their forms and contents briefly described. Since emblematic poetry impinges on the field of the fine arts, it is interesting to consider from the formal side the relation between text and drawing in the manuscript and to compare it with the relation between text-author and drawing-author (most frequently not the same person). The question of the drawing as element within the codicological description is raised as well. The emblems of Frano Gundulić have remained to date in manuscript, and as objects for transcription and codicological description are a challenge to philologists. But since they are a very rare example of this genre in Croatian Latinist literature they are also a stimulus to literary historians to describe their genre and then determine them both diachronically and synchronically.

Straipsnyje nagrinėjama marginalijų samprata, apibrėžtis ir tyrimų istoriografija. Siekiama nustatyti marginalijų šaltiniotyrinės bazės susiformavimą ir vykdomų tyrimų kryptis. Išskiriamos trys marginalijų apibrėžtys: kodikologinė, poligrafinė ir „pogamybinė“. Kodikologiškai ir poligrafiškai marginalijos apibrėžiamos kaip knygos gamybos metu atsiradę, funkcinę prigimtį turintys pagalbiniai informaciniai įrašai, tekstai ir ženklai, esantys už knygos pagrindinio teksto. „Pogamybinis“ požiūris telkiasi prie neapibrėžto turinio marginalijų, kurios atsirado funkcionuojant knygai visuomenėje. Marginalijų šaltiniotyrinė bazė pradėjo formuotis XIX a. pradžioje Didžiojoje Britanijoje, o Lietuvoje XX a. 6-ajame dešimtmetyje. Šaltiniotyra daugiausia nuveikė pirminio fiksavimo srityje, žinias apie marginalijas iš pradžių žymėta korteliniuose kataloguose, vėliau senųjų spaudinių ir elektroniniuose kataloguose. Dalis jų publikuota nuorašais ir faksimilėmis. Istoriškai susiformavo trys pagrindinės marginalijų tyrimų kryptys: filologinė, istorinė ir knygotyrinė (suvokiant knygos istoriją kaip jos dalį). Šiuo metu didžiausią įdirbį tiriant marginalijas yra pasiekę Didžiosios Britanijos, JAV ir Rusijos mokslininkai. Marginalijos pasitelkiamos poligrafijos, kodikologijos, skaitymo istorijos, knygos kultūros ir knygos meno tyrimams. Three definitions of marginalia are distinguished: codicological, polygraphic, and "postmanufaturing". Codicologically and polygraphically marginalia are defined as additional information records which appear during the book production process. Marginalia are texts and signs (and miniatures) of a functional nature, which are usually placed behind the main text of the book. The "postmanufacturing" attitude focuses on the marginalia which have an indefinite content and which appear in the process of book functioning in society. The development of marginalia scientific studies started at the beginning of the 19th century in Great Britain, meanwhile in Lithuania it started in the sixth decade of the 20th century. In the source studies, most has been achieved in the field of initial fixing. Information about marginalia was first recorded in card catalogues, later in old prints and electronic catalogues. Half of them are published as duplicates and facsimiles. Historically, three main marginalia research trends have formed: philological, historical and book science (perceiving book history as its part). Currently, the largest work in investigating marginalia is done by researchers from Great Britain, the USA and Russia. Marginalia are invoked in the investigation of polygraphy, codicology, reading history, book culture and book art. In Lithuania, more researches in history of reading, book culture, book art, records and sign history are conducted. Historiography development possibilities are intended for the research of library, bookbindery, book trade history and biographistic study.
