This study examines how solutions journalism education translates to professional practice, through in-depth interviews with current media professionals who encountered solutions journalism when they were in college. Findings suggest that solutions journalism education resonates powerfully with students, and incorporating the practice in J-school curriculum may have the potential to reengage disenchanted students. Whereas there remain significant barriers to practicing the approach in the workplace, participants revealed that their encounters at university with solutions journalism positively affected their reporting style, interview skills, and perspective of journalism's role in society. - Abstract
The aim of this research is to study the perception of the quality of work life of fashion and luxury workers, particularly female workers in the garment industry. A qualitative study was conducted with a sample size of seventeen volunteers working in garment, fashion and luxury workshops in the Pays-de-la-Loire region of France. Semi-structured interviews were carried out to collect a corpus of data that was analyzed using lexicometric analysis. A descending hierarchical classification (DHC) was conducted on the whole corpus, as well as a factorial correspondence analysis (FCA) using the IRaMuTeQ software. The results show that the discourse is organized according to six thematic classes: work communication, job representation and recognition, workstation and physic health, temporality, affects and activity, mutual aid and work organization, and work environment outside the activity. The results reveal a group of organizational, social, technical and environmental factors associated with a set of affects (both positively and negatively valenced) related to the quality of work life (QWL) of these female employees.

URBANIZATION , *POPULATION , *QUALITATIVE research , *LAND management - Abstract
Context and background The land is a finite resource for which competition is intensifying due to rapid urbanization, population growth, economic necessities... In Morocco, the land is increasingly seen as an obstacle and a major constraint on several levels. . In the industrial sector, the land is an essential lever for investment. In this context, we can cite the issue of the management of industrial zones, which remains a global dilemma. It also raises the issue of the place of the State concerning the private sector in the development, planning, marketing, and management of areas. This study on the issue of industrial land falls within the context of a new ambition that Morocco has set itself, through the Emergence industrial strategy, which aims to accelerate the growth of the industrial sector in certain key sectors of development. This industrial growth should increase the demand for industrial land in the years to come, which makes it all the more urgent to accelerate the reforms underway in this area, and to improve the quality of these industrial zones so that the land issue does not constitute a brake on this expansion. And to properly deal with the problem, we opted for an international benchmark of developing countries that share the same position as Morocco and which manage this type of land in a different way, such as Tunisia and its GMGs, and Turkey with a governing state system and its associations. Goal and Objectives: This document seeks an answer to the question of how to achieve industrial land management that responds to national needs and problems by adopting the experiences of other countries. Methodology: The first part is a bibliographic study and the representation of collected data in the form of graphs. The second part is a documentary analysis which consists of an international benchmark which treats the various modes of management of the industrial zones in Morocco, Tunisia and in Turkey. And finally a qualitative study in the form of a case study, accompanied by a directive interview with representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Market players. Results: it is difficult to speak of an ideal model but the pseudo-perfect model is a model in which the public actors, especially the municipalities, are not fully involved or designated as the main managers of the industrial zones. It is a model where the developer-investor contract takes place under exhaustive specifications and commits the stakeholders. This is the model where urban planning takes the problem of access to land in concrete terms: the status of the bases, the surface and the mobilization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic illustrates the necessity of effective preventive measures for existing and newly emerging pathogens. When confronted with pathogens or spoilage agents, especially if they are not yet well studied, effective hygiene protocols are needed immediately. In the medical field, effective preventive measures are key to prevent vulnerable patients from infections. In production areas, effective hygiene measures are needed to protect goods from spoilage or microbial contamination. The European standardization framework established by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) ensures that effective hygiene measures are available and can be immediately implemented when needed. Based on a broad portfolio of standards/laboratory tests, activity claims specifically addressing the special features of applications of antimicrobial formulations are substantiated. In this review, the concept of using standardized surrogate test organisms is explained, and the European standardized test approach to claim microbicidal and virucidal efficacy, the specificity of claims and their relevance for infection prevention measures is illustrated. Furthermore, relevance of the European Norm test methods is elucidated in the light of legal requirements. Finally, the review explains the systematics of the standardized methodological portfolio of CEN, Technical Committee 216, which is very useful when effective strategies for fighting or preventing microbial and viral induced infections, contaminations or spoilage are needed on an immediate basis.

Context and background: In Morocco, especially in the manufacturing field, land is an important instrument for investment. The growth of the manufacturing sector since the launching of the Industrial Acceleration Plan has required a large stock of land to satisfy the needs of the industrialists. However, land is presenting more barriers as one of the most obstacles at several levels. In front of such a situation, the mobilization of the land for the industrial sector is a primordial question. In this context, we can cite the problem of land grabbing, the duality of the land regimes, the diversity of the land statuses, the slowness of the procedures and the multitude of the intervening parties, non-proper valorization, etc. Goal and Objectives: The challenges raised above are bases to illustrate the urgency of thinking about solutions. It is in this context that the study proposes to highlight the processes of mobilization for the benefit of investors, namely: the transfer and the rent. The various modes of land mobilization, the advantages, and disadvantages of each mode will be described in order to meet the needs of the investors. Methodology: The method we used to accomplish our objectives is based on the analysis of the documentation, the consultation of land data from MICENT as well as a survey to collect additional information on the stakeholders in this ecosystem. Results and findings: From the analysis of the results of our survey, we can deduce that choosing a single mode which meets the needs of manufacturers and suits the business model of the various industrial sectors is difficult. The ideal will be to adopt a wide range of choices and to have a mixed model in order to offer all the required flexibility, transfer, rental, and emphyteutic lease when it is possible. Analysis of the Statistics Canada's Labour Force Survey addresses four aspects of precarious employment. Common definitions of precarity, it is argued, do not address the critical relations between part-time work, low wages and job class -- comparing permanent, term and contract, casual and seasonal employees, and self-employed workers with and without help. And these are not reducible to a single dimension of precarity. Second, between 1997 and 2018, increased term and contract employment is mainly at the expense of self-employment, with little change in permanent employees, part-time work and low-wage jobs. So, there is no evidence of a crisis of precarious employment. Third, gender, age and education have small effects on who is a permanent employee, but strongly affect employment in the five other classes. Women are more likely to have permanent jobs and low pay and much more likely to work part-time, but less likely to be self-employed. Fourth, industry and occupation effects on job class are much stronger than and independent of workers' personal characteristics. These findings are at odds with many elements of the conventional narrative of precarious employment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article intends to be a reflection on the socio-political construction of oral sources in the context of extensive field research, carried out in a post-industrial area of the city of Milan, known as Bicocca. It investigates the ethnographic encounters as heuristic tools aimed at the construction of specific anthropological knowledge. Today, the University of Milano-Bicocca, the Arcimboldi Theatre, CNR, and Siemens Italia, among others, occupy the site. However, until the 1980s, the same area hosted the Pirelli Industries, one of the largest plastic, tires, and cable manufacturing company from Italy. Even if the site was later transformed into a technology integrated area, it is still permeated with both material and immaterial historical traces of its industrial past. I consider here my ethnographic interviews with former unionists and workers of the Pirelli focusing on the accounts of the years 1968-1969, also known as the second “Red Biennium” (Biennio Rosso) or the “Hot Autumn” (Autunno Caldo). Reconsidering these ethnographic documents collected between 2008 and 2013, I describe the memories that emerged incisively in the relationship between the subjects involved in this ethnographic research and me. - Abstract
- Abstract
Clare Wightman explores the key issue of gender in explaining the experience of men and women at work. She uses women's employment in the engineering industries between 1900 and 1950 to confront many of the contentious debates in women's history. She shows that the two World Wars did not produce radical changes for women at work. Throughout the book the author questions the leading role given to gender ideology in constructing the attitudes of employers, and suggests that it was only one factor among many which shaped women's experiences in the workplace. This is a major study with wide and challenging implications for the subject.

Introduction: The importance of research funding for potential conflicts of interests has been widely discussed in the field of substance-related disorders: research funding by industries producing alcohol, tobacco or drugs as well as by pharmaceutical companies contains a substantial risk of publication bias, conflicts of health care authorities as well as researchers and opinion leaders in the field of addiction research and medicine. Disclosure of all conflicts of interest is an indispensable consequence in every case. Extent of financial support, fields of sponsoring and publication bias are presented. Due to parallels between funding in substance related research and research on pathological gambling and the industrial interest in research of pathological gambling interferences as common in the research of other substances have to be considered as problematic. Discussion and Conclusion: We need (1) evaluation of the potential conflicts of interest on the part of state organizations (2) limitation of advertising and indirect sponsoring, (3) disclosure of any financial and non-financial relationship and, in particular, the scope of a financial relationship between universities, research institutes, study leaders, authors, reviewers and responsible editors of research journals on the gambling providers, (4) a rating system that quantifies a potential publication bias, (5) an exclusion of persons with significant sponsorship in the past five years from responsible functions with regard to the field of gambling, and (6) a pool of public funds for research funding managed by an independent body. Manyindustrialautomationsolutionsusewirelesscommunicationandrelyontheavail- ability and quality of the wireless channel. At the same time the wireless medium is highly congested and guaranteeing the availability of wireless channels is becoming increasingly difficult. In this work we show, that ad-hoc networking solutions can be used to provide new communication channels and improve the performance of mobile automation systems. These ad-hoc networking solutions describe different communi- cation strategies, but avoid relying on network infrastructure by utilizing the Peer-to- Peer (P2P) channel between communicating entities. This work is a step towards the effective implementation of low-range communication technologies(e.g. VisibleLightCommunication(VLC), radarcommunication, mmWave communication) to the industrial application. Implementing infrastructure networks with these technologies is unrealistic, since the low communication range would neces- sitate a high number of Access Points (APs) to yield full coverage. However, ad-hoc networks do not require any network infrastructure. In this work different ad-hoc net- working solutions for the industrial use case are presented and tools and models for their examination are proposed. The main use case investigated in this work are Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) for industrial applications. These mobile devices drive throughout the factory trans- porting crates, goods or tools or assisting workers. In most implementations they must exchange data with a Central Control Unit (CCU) and between one another. Predicting if a certain communication technology is suitable for an application is very challenging since the applications and the resulting requirements are very heterogeneous. The proposed models and simulation tools enable the simulation of the complex inter- action of mobile robotic clients and a wireless communication network. The goal is to predict the characteristics of a networked AGV fleet. Theproposedtoolswereusedtoimplement, testandexaminedifferentad-hocnetwork- ing solutions for industrial applications using AGVs. These communication solutions handle time-critical and delay-tolerant communication. Additionally a control method for the AGVs is proposed, which optimizes the communication and in turn increases the transport performance of the AGV fleet. Therefore, this work provides not only tools for the further research of industrial ad-hoc system, but also first implementations of ad-hoc systems which address many of the most pressing issues in industrial applica- tions., Viele industrielle Automatisierungslösungen verwenden drahtlose Kommunikations- systeme und sind daher auf die Verfügbarkeit und Qualität des drahtlosen Kanals an- gewiesen.

Work is, in this article, given a broad definition, to include all activities directly or indirectly related to human struggle with the material world. However, the focus in this context, is on work among the tribal population of India (particularly the Eastern State of Orissa) who have directly depended on nature for their survival. Work among them has been traditionally manifested in a series of activities relating to food procurement, protection of territories and life, and child-bearing/rearing. While nature, especially the forests in which the tribals resided, played a major role in the first two, its role has been more indirect in the last, reflected in the organisation of time to ensure the fulfilment of child-rearing, carrying of small children to the work place, prevention and cure of diseases through the use of herbal medicines, etc. The article attempts to show the close relationship between the tribal population and the forest, which goes far beyond the question of mere economy, to encompass their cultural and religious identities, social customs and even entertainment.Women had a very major role to play in the traditional tribal economy and hence, the discussion of work revolves mainly around them in this article. They are, in other words, projected as the main ‘actors’ in the work sphere. The traditional tribal socio-cultural and economic structures have undergone a major change due to the destruction of forests which are primarily a consequence of the industrialisation process that has given a great commercial value to the resource. This process has, in view of the close people and forest relationship, not merely destroyed the source of tribal survival, but also struck at the roots of their socio-cultural systems. Needless to say, this has changed the entire structure of tribal work organisation. With no viable alternatives, they are still forced to cling to some of the aspect of their economic tradition. These are primarily the women’s activities. The strains that are placed on women in this process of change are the main focus of discussion in the paper.

This essay attempts to analyse the process of formation of work culture amongst industrial workers in Kanpur – a major textile city of North India. The author questions certain assumptions in writings on labour history in India. The emphasis in studies like that of Morris D. Morris, is on managerial strategy and the economic calculations of managers in shaping the nature of work in the factory. Workers, who are subject to discipline, seem to have no active role in re-defining disciplinary strategies.Dipesh Chakravarty’s recent study moves away from economistic analysis to focus on the cultural context of the Calcutta jute mills. Work in the jute mills, he argues, was characterized by the persistence of a ‘pre-capitalist’ culture. Bourgeois notions of legality, factory codes, and service rules were alien to a system governed by hierarchical, inegalitarian traditions. If Morris overplays the role of managerial strategy, Chakravarty overemphasizes the role of ‘pre-bourgeois’ culture. In different ways both Morris and Chakravarty deny the significance of worker practice and everyday resistance in re-defining the limits of authority and reshaping the culture of the factory. This essay explores the links between managerial strategies towards worker practices and the politics of the trade unions in the making and the re-making of work culture. The author examines the various processes which structured the industrial worker’s experience of work: the disciplinary norms which managers sought to impose; the agencies of control which gave meaning to norms in everyday practice; the redefinition of rules by workers, the articulation of their own notions of time and work; and finally the role of trade-unions in defining and legitimizing specific norms of work.

Both merchants and artisans in the silk industry of Banaras had institutions that trained them in the technicalities of their profession as well as educated them in the ethics of a successful worker and member of society. This paper gives a picture of these institutions as they existed at the turn of the century. It argues that the schools introduced by the British government, seeking to impose a monopoly on education, were initially ignored by both weavers and merchants because they were correctly seen as dysfunctional. Over the decades, both occupational groups tried to work out compromises with the new system, retaining the best in the old and incorporating it to the new. For such experiments to succeed, the required level of technical planning regarding curriculum and pedagogy had to be higher than the one first imagined, and we might wonder whether such experiments can at all be successful. By the end of the 1930’s, merchants had resigned themselves to relegate their old style vocational and ethical education to the home sphere and to accept British education in full while weavers carried on with their weak experiments because their economic class and the nature of their work made liberal education quite irrelevant.

In this dissertation methods are developed and applied which enable the evaluation of industrial CO2 abatement pathways and measures in consistent European socio technical energy scenarios. The concept of classical CO2 abatement costs is augmented to facilitate the holistic abatement measure and transformation pathway evaluation. Furthermore, an integrated scenario process is developed, through which the structured quantification of qualitative scenario storylines is supported.

The International Exhibition of 1878 takes place between Champ de Mars and the Trocadéro. After the defeat of Sedan and the Commune, the event offers to the world an image of the recovery of France and introduces the Third Republic. Despite their commercial nature, International Exhibitions aren’t restricted to a celebration of modern creations. Displayed through retrospectives, archaeological works of the 1878’s Exhibition substantially permeate their time. These pieces arouse nationalism and underlie political or religious disputes. They emphasize by contrast Human progress, or support by comparison the continuity of particular industrial practices.

Industrial firms have embarked on service transition strategies for some time, but revenues are still lagging behind expectations. Although recent advances in digital technology enable new service offerings and commercial models, the salesforce struggles to realize the full potential of these opportunities. Similarly, frontline service employees are increasingly asked to engage in service and sales activities and, hence, to display service-sales ambidexterity (SSA). Despite the growing interest in SSA, the understandings of the concept, its outcomes, and antecedents remain limited. This thesis is among the first to investigate SSA from the perspective of the increasing role of digital technology in industrial services. Specifically, it examines how industrial firms can successfully develop digital service-sales ambidexterity (DSSA). The thesis comprises four studies. Study 1 merges interview and ethnographic data to identify revenue models that form microfoundations of DSSA. The results reveal that, in the digital era, indirect and freemium revenue models assist in achieving service outcomes and overcoming barriers to sales outcomes. Study 2 uses interviews with service salespeople and managers to explore the conceptualization of value-based selling (VBS). The findings point to a conceptualization of VBS as an organizational capability comprising six routine-based building blocks. They also suggest that VBS can be measured with a formative-formative higher-order construct. Study 3 applies partial least squares structural equation modeling to survey data in order to examine the performance outcomes and organizational boundary conditions of VBS. The results show a positive link between VBS and salesforce performance. Moreover, the quality of the sales strategy and sales-related incentives but not service-related incentives are systematically linked to higher levels of VBS. In addition, formalization reduces the positive performance effect of VBS, but proactive market orientation does not have any moderating effect. Study 4 draws on interview data to explore organizational enablers of DSSA. Eight organizational enablers were found to operate at the macro-, micro- and mesolevel. These findings have several theoretical and managerial implications. The thesis contributes to servitization, SSA, and VBS literature by adding 1) the DSSA concept, 2) digital service revenue model configurations, 3) a multi-dimensional conceptualization of VBS as organizational capability, 4) a higher-order VBS measure, 5) organization-level boundary conditions of VBS, and 6) organizational enablers of DSSA. The findings are consolidated in a managerial framework that charts the path toward DSSA in industrial firms.

In the study of the North Korean economy, industrial and business activities still remain uncharted territory. They are the most basic components of an economy, yet the scarcity of information makes those in North Korea almost impossible to understand from the outside world. Today, the general perception is that North Korea's industrial and business activities have completely changed from those of past socialist economies. In fact, rather than central plans, capitalist factors such as markets and profit are becoming the daily standards, and North Korea's industry and business activities are by no means exceptions to these so-called changes and economic reforms. To understand the present status and future direction of the North Korean economy, it is important to grasp how industry is managed and business activities are conducted.

Nowadays, Industry 4.0 can be considered a reality, a paradigm integrating modern technologies and innvoations. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be considered the leading component of the industrial transformation enabling intelligent machines to execute tasks autonomously like self-monitoring, interpretation, diagnosis, and analysis. AI-based methodologies (especially Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) support manufacturers and industries in predicting their maintenance needs and reducing downtime. Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) studies and designs approaches, algorithms and tools producing human-understandable explanations of AI-based systems information and decisions. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of AI and XAI-based methods adopted in the Industry 4.0 scenario. First, we briefly discuss different technologies enabling Industry 4.0. Then, we present an in-depth investigation of the main methods used in literature: we also provide the details of what, how, why, and where these methods have been applied for Industry 4.0. Further, we illustrate the opportunities and challenges that elicit future research directions towards responsible or human-centric AI and XAI systems, essential for adopting high-stakes industry applications.

Electrosynthetic methods are crucial for a future sustainable transformation of the chemical industry. Being an integral part of many synthetic pathways, the electrification of hydrogenation reactions gained increasing interest in recent years. However, for the large-scale industrial application of electrochemical hydrogenations, low-resistance zero-gap electrolysers operating at high current densities and high substrate concentrations, ideally applying noble-metal-free catalyst systems, are required. Because of their conductivity, stability, and stoichiometric flexibility, transition metal sulfides of the pentlandite group have been thoroughly investigated as promising electrocatalysts for electrochemical applications but were not investigated for electrochemical hydrogenations of organic materials. An initial screening of a series of first row transition metal pentlandites revealed promising activity for the electrochemical hydrogenation of alkynols in water. The most active catalyst within the series was then incorporated into a zero-gap electrolyser enabling the hydrogenation of alkynols at current densities of up to 240 mA cm-2, Faraday efficiencies of up to 75%, and an alkene selectivity of up to 90%. In this scalable setup we demonstrate high stability of catalyst and electrode for at least 100 h. Altogether, we illustrate the successful integration of a sustainable catalyst into a scalable zero-gap electrolyser establishing electrosynthetic methods in an application-oriented manner.

International journal for research in vocational education and training 9 (2022) 2, S. 195-215, Context: Swedish Higher Vocational Education (HVE) is organised as state-funded programmes provisioned by both public and private education providers in close relation to employers. In HVE programme managers have responsibilities like those that often are vested in vocational teachers. They are responsible both for the day-to-day work of provision and the continuous development of the programme and its syllabi. This article presents a study investigating the work of programme managers, focusing on their work with creating and updating syllabi and on their work organising the students' training. Methods: Five programme managers responsible for five diverse HVE programmes have been interviewed and the syllabi of these programmes have been examined. The analysis is based on a Bernsteinian theoretical perspective focusing on recontextualisation of knowledge for pedagogic discourse by different stakeholders as agents who have different basis for their actions. The study first establishes what knowledge make up the programmes to inform the understanding of what training the programme managers are tasked with organising, then examines how the programme managers take part in selecting knowledge for course syllabi, and how they organise the teaching of these syllabi in in their programmes. Findings: The knowledge that has been recontextualised for pedagogic discourse in the studied programmes is most often vocationally specific or context bound in relation to a particular occupational field. The syllabi are related to clearly defined jobs. The findings highlight how practice thus in several ways may be difficult for programme managers without work experience in the relevant occupational field or knowledge in relation to it. Not only in the work of forming and updating curricula, but also as they must be able to navigate the relevant sector of business and industry to engage appropriate employers for collaborations and to hire teaching staff. Conclusion: The findings presented in this article show that local autonomy allows for major differences regarding knowledge in syllabi and the organisation of learning between programmes within the same nationally organised VET system. This is salient even with a small number of programmes having been studied. This strongly support the importance of examining what happens in autonomous local contexts of VET provision and asking who has influence over publicly funded education in this sort of contexts, and on what these stakeholders base their actions. The capitalism John Maynard Keynes struggled to analyse was clearly an industrial capitalism in which the investor used physical capital only to end up with more money than he started with. It is particularly the post Keynesian school of ‘monetary or fundamentalist Keynesianism' which elaborated Keynes's monetary theory of production into an alternative economic paradigm that replaces the exchange ontology with an ontology based on nominal obligations. As economic history reports a higher speed of financial than real asset accumulation over the past half a century - a process often dubbed 'financialisation' -, doubts have been raised as to whether this transformation of industrial capitalism into financialised capitalism demands for a new macroeconomic approach. 'Financialisation', however, may mean different things: We have to distinguish between a mere enlargement of the financial sector due to an increase in financial intermediation on the one hand and a structural change of investment motives on the other hand. While the former may leave the central mechanics of accumulation and growth unchanged, the latter may impact on the process of social provisioning (resource management) in a monetary production economy as described by monetary Keynesianism. In this paper, we will elaborate in a very preliminary way whether the process of financialisation will amend the economics of monetary production as put forward by Keynes in his General Theory, elaborated by monetary Keynesianism and extended by Hyman Minsky's financial instability hypothesis and trace on these theoretical grounds the transition from industrial capitalism into financial capitalism.

In Yaoundé, the industry is an important link to socio-economic life. Since the beginning of the 2000 decade, this activity has been creating pulling centres for the active population through the rich and diversified labour market in the urban and suburban spaces. This study examines the role of industrial location in Yaoundé and their effects on the economy and territory of this town. The specialisations of industrial sectors as well as the nature of capital involved in the creation of the industries of this space are most of the indicators that show the socioeconomic and spatial dynamics of the town.
