Journalism is a highly technology-dependent profession, and students, educators, and professionals must develop specific digital skills. This study uses the theory of disruptive innovation to examine how journalism educators adapt their programs in response to changing media environments. A survey of accredited journalism and mass communication programs identified three key challenges: the need for long-term investment, the ability to predict future change and demand, and difficulty in hiring faculty expertise. When asked which technologies will affect journalism curricula in the next 3 to 5 years, artificial intelligence (AI) topped the list, followed by drone journalism, virtual reality, and augmented reality. - Abstract
Outdoor painted sculptures (OPSs) are a regular feature of public spaces and private collections throughout the world. Their painted finishes can appear deceptively simple, but their esthetic is a subtle combination of color, texture, and reflectance, making them challenging to care for and repair. OPSs are exposed to direct sunlight, rain, wind, pollutants, human interactions, and biological debris from plants and animals. Conservation of these artworks is a matter of preserving an artist’s esthetic intent, rather than the original paint system, which will inevitably need to be replaced. This paper discusses the development of the Getty Conservation Institute workshop
Treatment Strategies for OPS , to develop skills in this specialized area of conservation. The full repainting of an artwork is expensive, laborious, logistically challenging, and includes the use of chemicals and processes with significant carbon footprints: improving the economic and environmental sustainability of these treatments has become imperative. The workshop teaches participants strategies that help stave off full repainting, such as working with specialized painters for lasting localized repairs, removing graffiti without altering the sculpture’s finish, and creating regular maintenance programs that help prevent deterioration. MUSIC education , *EARLY childhood education , *COURSE content (Education) , *KRUSKAL-Wallis Test - Abstract
Given the current situation with regards to the publication of the Development Orders to Improve University Teaching approved by Royal Decree 822/2021, which might affect degree mentions in Spain, this research focuses on a study of the form of the curriculum for the Mention in Music Education. To do so, we have selected public and private centres (n = 48) that are affiliated to the Conference of Deans of Education. We examined the offer of this specialisation on the degrees in Early Childhood Education and Primary Education, the distribution of subjects, and access requirements. In addition, the content of the subjects was classified. and the presence of specific placements and final degree projects was considered. The results show a reduction in credits and training capacity compared to the previous specialism. In addition, the more restricted offer of this mention in Early Childhood Education than in Primary Education is shown. The Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric test did not find any statistically significant differences in the availability of these courses in different autonomous communities. In the case of modules offered, it is apparent that both stages share the same musical categories (vocal, instrumental, auditory, musical language and rhythm, movement and dance, among others) but that the teaching load differs. Likewise, it was also found that few centres offer specific practicals and final degree projects for the mentions. For all these reasons, taking into account all of the foregoing is recommended in the event of any modification that could increase the number of credits with the publication of the afore mentioned orders. HIGHER education , *GAMIFICATION , *COURSE content (Education) , *CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *ACADEMIC motivation - Abstract
The growing interest in applying gamified designs in higher education is challenged by mixed results in terms of student acceptance. Different players are attracted to games for different reasons and game design elements, and a better understanding of how each learner will connect to different game mechanics provides valuable input for game design and evaluation. In this paper, we present and validate a scale to measure the affinity of each player with different game elements. First, a theoretical review was carried out on three profile classifications and six motivational theoretical models, proposing a taxonomy for twelve player profiles based on three axes: relational, competence and motivational. Then, a pilot test was carried out with 54 subjects, analysing content and comprehension validity through the judgment of six experts and construct validity through an exploratory factorial analysis. Subsequently, with a sample of 1010 subjects, a confirmatory factor analysis was performed. The scale was made up of 30 items, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.822; three main components were obtained: dominators, interactors and trackers. The results show the validity of the scale, with high levels of confidence. It provides an understanding of the player's profile in a playful context, their motivational orientation and their affinity with the specific game design. This can be used to improve the design of gamified experiences in higher education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CRITICAL race theory , *POLICY analysis , *STORY plots , *CRITICAL analysis - Abstract
Narrative storytelling surrounds us. Narratives are especially salient in politics, as policy problems do not simply exist, but are actively created through the stories policy actors tell. Scholars introduced the narrative policy framework (NPF) to create a generalized framework for studying how policy actors use storytelling strategically to influence policy. We use the NPF to examine the recent rise of critical race theory (CRT) in policy debates. We demonstrate that increasing exposure to the ban‐CRT narrative plots led to greater support for a ban on CRT, particularly for White and Republican individuals. Finally, we introduce and test the concept of narrative spillover, which provides a new way of thinking about how micro, meso, and macro policy narratives interact to influence‐related political beliefs and macrolevel beliefs about institutions and culture. - Abstract
Sociologists have long studied the educational incorporation of immigrants and refugees, but most scholarship focuses on questions of access, achievement, attainment, and acculturation. We extend this literature by examining the incorporation of immigrants and refugees in the cultural content of schooling, drawing on a unique dataset spanning 509 textbooks from 80 countries, representing all regions of the world from 1963 to 2011. Our descriptive and multilevel regression analyses reveal a mixed picture. On one hand, textbook discussions of immigrants and refugees have expanded over time and are especially pervasive in textbooks that invoke post-national conceptions of citizenship and in countries that host large foreign-born populations. But we also document stagnating discussions of immigrants and refugees in recent decades, a casting of these groups as part of the historical past more than contemporary civics and society, and a tendency toward their curricular omission in countries with a recent history of war. The research study titled Strategic Exploration of Digital Transformation in Higher Education Institutions aims to comprehensively analyze and understand the approaches higher education institutions are taking towards digital transformation. It takes a strategic approach to explore the conception, initiatives, challenges, and opportunities related to the adoption of digital technologies in this constantly evolving academic environment. The research results, obtained through a detailed review of existing literature in various specialized databases on digital transformation in higher education, indicate that higher education institutions are adopting diverse strategies for digital transformation. These strategies range from digitizing content to implementing online learning platforms. Common challenges are identified, such as resistance to change and the need for investment in technological infrastructure. Emerging opportunities are also highlighted, such as personalized learning and inter-institutional collaboration through technology. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of solid strategic planning and adaptability in the digital transformation process. It suggests that higher education institutions should address the changing needs of students and leverage digital technologies effectively to improve the quality of teaching and learning. Ultimately, the research provides a valuable foundation for future studies and will guide the strategic decisions of educational institutions in pursuit of digital transformation. Social media (SoMe) has reshaped access to health information, which may benefit patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), although an evaluation of the characteristics of contents for Spanish-speaking patients is lacking. We aimed to assess patient engagement, reliability, comprehensiveness, and quality of data uploaded to YouTube® for Spanish-speaking patients. We evaluated the videos uploaded to YouTube® in Spanish about RA. Information about video length, engagement (i.e., views, likes, popularity index), time online, and the source was retrieved; we appraised reliability (DISCERN), comprehensiveness (content score), and quality (Global Quality Score) using standardized scores. We included 200 videos in the study and classified 67% of the videos as useful. These videos had a higher number of views (19,491 [10,132–61,162] vs. 11,208 [8183–20,538]), a longer time online (1156 [719–2254] vs. 832 [487–1708] days), and a shorter duration (6.3 [3.4–15.8] vs. 11.8 [7.4–20.3] min). Engagement parameters were similar between useful and misleading videos. Useful videos had higher reliability, comprehensiveness, and quality scores. Useful videos were mainly uploaded by independent users and government/news agencies; academic organizations offered only 15% of useful videos. Most of the information in YouTube® for Spanish-speaking patients with RA is useful; however, patient engagement is similar between useful and misleading content. More substantial involvement of academia in developing high-quality educational multimedia is warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An analysis of academic citations and references generated by the ChatGPT artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot reveals the citations and references are in fact, fake. They are clearly generated by a predictive process rather than known facts. This suggests that early optimism regarding this technology for assisting in research could be misplaced, and that student misuse of the chatbot can be detected by the identification of fake citations and references. Despite these problems, the technology could have application in the writing of course materials for lower level undergraduate courses that do not necessarily require references. Subject matter expertise is required, however, to identify and remove incorrect information. The need to identify incorrect information provided by an AI chatbot is a skill that students will also increasingly need. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The massive influx of Rohingyas has become one of the world's worst humanitarian and human rights crises. The Bangladesh government does not have any domestic or international regulations to set up an administrative process to address the issue of Rohingya refugees. Recently, Bangladesh and Myanmar initiated the repatriation of around 3000 Rohingyas. Yet, the repatriation process has not been successful as none of the Rohingya agreed to return to Myanmar without citizenship rights and security. Against this backdrop, this study explores whether education can act as a solution to integrate Rohingya refugees into mainstream society in Bangladesh. Applying purposive sampling, primary data was collected through semi‐structured interviews, key informant interviews, and telephone interviews. Data analysis was performed through conversation analysis. The findings reveal that the integration of Rohingya refugees through education is a far‐reaching dream as refugee management and education policies do not permit the integration of Rohingya refugees into mainstream society in Bangladesh. Rohingya refugees have demanded education as their right to develop their self‐respect and dignity. In contrast, the Bangladesh government viewed education as a relief program rather than development and integration. This article supports the claim of academics that the Bangladeshi government should provide education to Rohingya refugee children from a development perspective to protect and ensure their self‐respect and dignity. Anatomy and clinical skills are taught separately to physical and occupational therapy students. Formaldehyde is the primary chemical used to embalm donors which creates a challenge in integrating clinical skills into the anatomy curriculum. This study aimed to evaluate the integration of clinical skills into anatomical education using Imperial College London-Soft Preservation (ICL-SP) and formaldehyde embalming through the evaluation of student perceived learning and confidence. Students were invited to complete a survey after dissecting an ICL-SP and formaldehyde embalmed donors and perform clinical tests. It was easier to dissect and identify neurovascular structures on ICL-SP donors compared to formaldehyde. Clinical tests, like measuring range of motion and ligament tests were also more realistic on ICL-SP donors. The integration of clinical skills in the anatomical curriculum increased student perceived understanding of associated anatomy (p < 0.001), gave better understanding of how anatomy is important to their professions (p < 0.001) and increased motivation to learn anatomy (p < 0.001). The integration of clinical skills into anatomical education can facilitate student learning with higher confidence performing clinical skills and is complemented by the utilization of the new ICL-SP methodology instead of the traditional formaldehyde preservation. Scholars have documented the challenges of combining wage work and care responsibilities in various societal contexts. National variations reveal that public policy and care infrastructure have major effects in shaping gendered patterns, class inequalities, as well as overall wellbeing of parents. Childcare centers and schools can enable people with children to pursue jobs and careers. Yet, as I show in this article, education systems' demands can become a major component of parental care labor. Drawing on interviews with 92 parents in Singapore, I illustrate the ways in which education care labor impedes work-life reconciliation as well as deepens the significance of gender and class. This study contributes to the literature on understanding complexities related to educational disparities among Latino families. The roles of first-generation Latino fathers in their children's education are often mischaracterized within the schools. Utilizing role theory, our study details how Latino fathers' work, cultural values, and communication are key to understanding their involvement in their children's education. Seventeen first-generation Latino fathers from the rural Midwest participated in focus groups and subsequent individual interviews. The resulting thematic analysis details three themes. The themes describe how Latino fathers' work acts as a means of involvement, how cultural values impact the roles within education, and suggest the lack of communication creates a disconnect between Latino fathers and the schools. Implications from this study state a need for increased communication between Latino fathers and teachers. Teachers may benefit by incorporating the cultural values and roles of fathers into their teaching practices. Educators should consider expanding their beliefs of parental involvement to include the cultural values of the families in their schools. Integrating the voices of Latino fathers within the educational system is needed to further strive toward educational equality for Latino families. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research intends to identify: features of ideological culture within China's education sector; the most effective theory of ideology, capable of developing the individuals' worldviews and values, revealing their civic-minded self-awareness; the dominant personality traits that can most effectively influence the moulding of civic-minded attitudes and social responsibility among China's residents. This research project included an experiment conducted to determine the effectiveness of various theories of ideology in China's education sector. As the experiment's findings suggest, traditional Confucianism was identified as the most productive ideology (51.2%). The research findings may be used in the study of various ideologies, such as liberalism and neoliberalism, socialism, feminism, communism and social democracy, applicable to existing systems of ideological culture education in the globalization settings (within the context of pedagogical and psychotherapeutic activities, as well as in order to improve methods of teaching general subjects and education levels among students). Studies on socioeconomic status (SES) have recently increased in social psychology. The most used indicators to measure objective SES are income and educational level (usually standardizing and summing the scores of these variables). However, income and education possibly have different, even opposite effects on certain variables. Across seven studies, using data from previous research and from international databases, we show that this is true both for prosocial behaviour and for variables related to prosocial behaviour. A higher educational level tends to positively predict prosocial behaviour (Studies 1a–1d) and structural attributions of poverty (Studies 2 and 3), and negatively predict scores for meritocratic beliefs (Study 3) and just world beliefs (Study 4). In most cases, income showed a reverse trend or did not predict the outcome. We discuss the broader implications both for the study of prosocial behaviour and social class. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wasta is an Arabic concept that describes the use of close friends and family members, rather than formal means, to resolve conflicts and gain access to resources. An overwhelming majority of people in the Arab Middle East report that wasta is essential for navigating their careers. Despite these claims, the relationships between wasta, employment status, and income have not yet been empirically tested. In the current study, the authors examine 5,622 participant responses across five Arab countries (Yemen, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Algeria) to examine the relationships between the tendency to use wasta and employment status, individual income, and family income. As expected, the tendency to use wasta was related to individual income, family income, and employment status. The relationship between the tendency to use wasta and family income was moderated by education, such that there was a stronger relationship among participants reporting lower educational levels. Education did not moderate the relationship between wasta and individual income or employment status. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. To estimate cognitively healthy life expectancy (CHLE), cognitive impairment life expectancy (CILE), and dementia life expectancy (DLE) in Mexican adults aged 60 and older stratified by educational attainment. Materials and methods. The data were obtained from Waves 1 (2001) to 5 (2018) of the Mexican Health and Aging Study. The life expectancy was estimated using a multistate life table analysis. Results. CHLE at age 60 increased with higher educational attainment and ranged from 17.9 to 24.4 years in female participants, and 17.2 to 21.3 in male participants. The CILE and DLE decreased with greater educational attainment. The CILE ranged from 0.7 to 2.8 years in female participants and 0.7 to 2.6 in male participants. Conclusions. Older adults in Mexico with higher education live more years with good cognitive health and fewer years with cognitive impairment and dementia. Education has a stronger effect on the length of cognitively healthy life expectancies than on total life expectancies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of the study was to estimate the generation of direct and indirect employment by qualification level in the sectors of the city of Maringá, as well as the export effect of jobs to the other municipalities in the state of Paraná and the rest of Brazil for the year 2018. Identifying those sectors of the production chain that export jobs the most can be a strategically important tool for promoting and fostering regional development using the input-output methodological framework. The results showed that the largest shares in the total employment of the Maringá economy were in the sectors (19) Services, (15) Commerce, (20) Public Administration, (16) Transportation, and (11) Food Industry. The acquisition of inputs from outside the region of origin resulted in higher values of job export effect for the sectors (11) Food Industry, (1) Agriculture, (9) Textile Industry, (8) Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry, and (6) Pulp, Paper, and Printing. In this regard, more detailed studies can be conducted to assess the feasibility of developing the capacity to provide inputs that were previously imported in the municipality. The research results can be used by the education sector (public and private) to tailor the supply of qualified labor to reduce the occurrence of brain drain from the municipality or the need to attract professionals from other locations. The aim of this research is to introduce the ideal lecture technique to the literature by explaining the anatomy of the skeletal system using the classical method, video-assisted method and 3D imaging techniques. The research was carried out with 180 students. The number of samples was determined by power analysis (a=0.05,b=0.20, effect size=0.25). Participants were pre-screened and divided into 4 groups with the closest group mean (group 1: control group: the group that did not take anatomy lessons, group 2: video-assisted anatomy education, group 3: 3D anatomy course, group 4: classical anatomy education group). The courses in the training groups were organised as 4 hours/day, 2 days/week for 5 weeks. At the end of the course, the students were re-examined and scaled to determine the difference in scores and self-efficacy between the groups. A one-way ANOVA test was performed because the data were normally distributed when comparing between groups. The mean scores were calculated as group 1=30.22±6.24, group 2=39.02±9.15, group 3=49.77±9.20 and group 4=59.28±8.95. In the post hoc comparison, in pairwise comparisons between all groups, the differences were highly significant (p<0.001). According to the results of the self-efficacy scale, the groups were ranked as group 4>group 3>group 2>group 1 (p<0.001). According to the results of this study, the laboratory method in skeletal anatomy teaching is the best alternative to 3D anatomy teaching. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The implementation of distance courses has allowed knowledge to reach a greater number of students immediately, in addition to this, it allows us to access information at the convenience of the participants, so the specific schedules, which promote a greater opening in the accesses and the way in which knowledge can be generated, is not married to a place, a time or a style, which is why it is increasingly necessary to be able to implement strategies that In addition, they generate real knowledge and a substantial use of the contents that are being shown, together with a wide range of strategies that range from the topics themselves, the reinforcement of activities through innovative technological tools and feedback and/or relevant evaluations to indicate the level of achievement that the student had within the specified period and that will allow him to continue advancing to reach his goal. Objectives, Methodology. The main objective of carrying out this work is to show the importance in the implementation of distance courses with the use of technological innovation tools, the advantages of students learning according to their needs and the advantages of having these important tools. support in educational instruction; In addition to presenting a representative sample on the application of a research technique that allows us to observe -by its results- that distance education has had a beneficial impact even more with the use of technological innovation tools in terms of promoting this instruction. in Higher Education Schools. Contribution. It seeks to demonstrate in a broad way, that encouraging students who cannot attend school in the required times, to seek education online, can help them obtain a degree without having to put aside meeting their needs through a job, distance education, will allow them to satisfy their self-realization needs and they will be able to collaborate significantly in the achievement of their mediumterm objectives. - Abstract
This work uses statistical techniques to determine the value added to the Quantitative Reasoning competence of the undergraduate students of the Universidad Católica Luis Amigó, Medellín, Colombia, in 2021. The statistical comparison is made graphically on a Cartesian plane by quintiles using the standard deviations of the Saber11 test and the institutional test scores taken in the fifth semester of undergraduate students. The value added is observed in the first two quintiles only, where 40 % of the lowest qualifications accumulate; however, in this study, it increases by 4 % in the top 20% of scores. Also, a predictive model for this competence is developed, and linearity, normality, independence of residuals, collinearity, and homoscedasticity are verified. Finally, this model shows acceptable results in the quantitative reasoning competence of the Universidad Católica Luis Amigó students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Multimodal literacy involves using multiple communication modes in text comprehension and production. This review examines sound and music in research on multimodal literacy, analyzing 48 pieces from Web of Science and Scopus databases. It identifies common methods and educational aspects in the texts and explores how multimodal literacy is applied in academic settings, focusing on the implications that it may have for music education. The study highlights the versatility of the aural mode, encompassing sound effects, vocalizations, music, and more. However, some studies merely use sound as "background music" without considering its communicative role. This research contributes to understanding sound's implications and its potential in engaging students in a multimodal society. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present research explores Darcy Ribeiro's contributions about the identity of the Brazilian people, which emerges as an identity of new people, as something that previously had no parallels, since it is the result of the historical processes of colonization and miscegenation. In this sense, this article uses basic research, based on a qualitative approach, with a search through bibliographical research, to try to understand the identity of a people who went through a process of not recognizing themselves as Portuguese, nor black African and nor indigenous, which is born from the harsh violence provoked at the beginning of the history of terra brasilis, when the colonizers arrived. Key concepts and even Darcy Ribeiro's own bibliography are explored in order to understand the notions of identity, culture, education, emancipation and construction of the Brazilian People. It is assumed, above all, that the Brazilian people, who are not the result of a racial democracy, but of the intersection of the white Portuguese, black African and indigenous matrices originating in the land of Brazil, demanding action in favor of the integration of all these people in the scope of educational training, citizen recognition and the realization of their prerogatives of dignity - in contrast to exclusion and inequalities. Although previous studies have examined the influence of education on support for redistribution, studies on how this social cleavage of support for redistribution due to education varies depending on several conditions are scarce. To fill this gap, by focusing on the discussions of motivation with self-interest and with the perception of fairness, this study examines the moderation effects of social and institutional trust on the association between education and the demand for redistribution. For the analysis, the present study utilizes pooled data from multiple rounds of the World Values Survey and the European Values Study and two-way fixed-effects models. Through the international comparative analysis, this analysis finds that social trust but not institutional trust dampens the cleavage of support for redistribution due to education. These results suggest that the horizontal aspect of trust may be more influential on preferences for redistribution than the vertical aspect of trust. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The social determinants of health are the social characteristics in which people's lives and work develop, giving them the capacity to act in specific contexts and are responsible for the health conditions of individuals and populations. Recent World Bank data show that Colombia has made modest progress in terms of social equity. These data reveal that neonatal mortality in remote areas of the country is similar to that found in Sub-Saharan Africa. In these regions, there is no access to specialized neonatal health services. As for anesthesia services, this age group has the highest mortality and perioperative complication rates related to prematurity, the quality of health services and, especially, the expertise of the anesthesiologist. In Colombia, efforts to implement formal university programs for sub-specialization in pediatric anesthesiology have not received governmental support. Meanwhile, the Colombian Society of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation (S.C.A.R.E.), through its Committee of Pediatric Anesthesiology, has created ongoing education opportunities, which, although important, are insufficient to meet the needs of the country. For this reason, a State policy is required, aimed at meeting its social debt and that considers the specialized training of human resources as a pillar for the promotion of equity in health, so that the surgical neonate does not have to travel in the procurement of services, but rather have the State bring those services to them. This short report describes the process of creating the Combat Sports Special Interest Group (CSSIG), its first meeting at the 28th Annual Congress of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS, Paris 4-7 July, 2023), and to make a call for action for the next events. The first contact between the group that proposed the creation of the CSSIG was made after a session of the Annual Congress of the ECSS held in 2022, but the idea and format of the proposal was initiated in January 2023. After its approval the CSSIG set the topics for the first meeting. During the 2023 edition the ECSS event had eight special interest groups, including the CSSIG. The first meeting of the CSSIG included the presentation of its goals, and two short presentations: one related to combat sports athletes’ health, and the other on testing and training monitoring of judo athletes. The aim of the CSSIG is to establish a sustainable network fostering evidence-based research and practice of combat sports, in order to: (a) promote health and safety of combat sports participants, (b) enhance their performance, and (c) improve training and competition practices. Thus, this report is also a call for action for the next events. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

STUDENT engagement , *BASIC education , *EDUCATORS , *ACTIVE learning , *INFORMATION & communication technologies - Abstract
The use of video games as an educational resource has generated great interest in recent years, due to their potential to motivate and engage students in the learning process. As technology becomes an increasingly accessible and ubiquitous tool, educators have begun to explore the potential of video games to support learning and improve student engagement in the classroom. The aim of this article is to analyze the opinions, attitudes and perceptions that students in the "Basic Education" degree program have on the use of video games as an educational resource. The main objective is to analyze the position of future teachers regarding the use of this type of resource as didactic material, whether they are in favor or against its use. For this purpose, a mixed research was designed, in which qualitative aspects were analyzed through an open question and quantitative aspects were analyzed through a questionnaire with Likert scale questions with five values, in order to obtain more information on the topic of study. A sample of fifteen students from the Escola Superior de Educação e Ciências Sociais (ESECS) of the Instituto Politécnico de Portalegre (Portugal) was used. Among the conclusions obtained, it can be affirmed that, for the most part, students are in favor of using video games as educational resources due to their high motivational potential and possibilities. It was also observed that they considered ICT as necessary resources for teaching mathematics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Maritime museums provide the right setting for integrating different perspectives and approaches to study maritime culture and history. This study presents a qualitative analysis of the educational programs from three museums in the Mediterranean region: the Galata Maritime Museum in Genova (Italy), the Maritime Museum of Barcelona (Spain), and the Maritime Museum of Haifa (Israel). This research evaluates the potential of these museums as agents of heritage education while providing their visitors with opportunities to learn about several aspects of maritime history, culture, and science. The Mediterranean region, with its seafaring history and cultural and ethnic diversity, serves as an ideal location for such museums to actively act as learning platforms of the importance of the sea in civilisation whilst addressing the regional challenges. With this study, we highlight the significance of promoting education via cultural heritage in museums and the potential of maritime museums to facilitate inclusion and dialogue about cultural diversity. K-12 education is in crisis in the United States of America. At the center of the crisis looms a severe teacher shortage. To understand the severity of the crisis, it is necessary to explore the nexus among structural factors, strategic blunders, and the socio-economic environment. A case study guided by grounded theory helps us elucidate the complex nature of the phenomenon. Official statements released by school districts, the Department of Education of Florida, and professional associations are interpreted through the constant comparative method to reveal the interaction among strategy, structure, and environmental context. A tentative model of the interrelationship between factors considered to be important by the organizations in question was developed to help stakeholders understand the complexity of the crisis and, by doing so, engage in more constructive and effective ways during the policymaking process. Introduction. Verbal abuse is one of the domestic violence that is still underestimated because it has no direct physical effect; it has a tremendous impact on young adults' mental health. Objective. This study wanted to confirm the negative effect of verbal abuse on mental health. In addition, parental education is also predicted to play a role in young adults' mental health. Method. This study uses a quantitative approach with a total sample of 160 respondents, consisting of 47 males and 113 females. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires through social media, with the criteria of respondents being in the range of 18-22 years old and being cared for by their parents in childhood. Results. The results showed a significant negative effect of parental verbal abuse in childhood on mental health in young adults. In addition, a father's education also has a positive effect on young adults' mental health, whereas a mother's education does not play a role in mental health. Discussion and conclusion. Verbal abuse from parents as a youngster will impact one's mental health as a young adult. Future research is expected to look at who commits verbal abuse in more detail and increase the sample size to evaluate the effect of maternal education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Motivation is one of the most studied elements in sport psychology due to its great potential to explain the attitude towards sport practice. Therefore, the present systematic review aims to analyse the effects of sport-oriented motivation on physical activity, anxiety and self-concept. The Web of Science and SCOPUS databases were used to select articles published between 2012 and 2022. The criteria established by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement were followed for the elaboration of the systematic review, with the final analysis sample comprising a total of 19 articles. Finally, the analysis of the data reveals that developing sport motivation from extrinsic or intrinsic values can help to decrease or increase anxiety levels. In addition, intrinsic motivation is beneficial for channelling disruptive states, while extrinsic motivation helps to increase anxiety levels when the proposed objectives are not achieved. The article intends to discuss processes of political subjectivation of children and young people based on excerpts from a research carried out within the scope of a master's degree in education, presenting a cartography of the political participation of children and young people living in vulnerable territories of the municipality of São Vicente, on the south coast from São Paulo, members of collectives and educational actions of the Instituto Camará Calunga. The concepts of mobilization and subjectivation are presented as important elements of politicization processes, portraying the way in which children and young people engage politically in different ways, coordinated or supported by adults, representing themselves or supporting adults in their demands, opposing the notion that children do not act politically or that the ideal way for children and young people to participate would be to produce consensus and there would be no room for contestation. The research took place in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, essentially in a virtual way, but it traces a continuity with the Institute's participation practices in the pre-pandemic period. The research made use of the cartographic method, in a virtual and face-to-face way, in the context of live work, of daily living with children, young people and educators from Camará, through semi-structured interviews and field diaries. This article presents two extension activities, a dialogue circle and video poems, on the topic of racism. Such activities were part of the VI Week of Art and Culture at IFSC Araranguá. The general objective was to promote reflections on racism, encouraging anti-racist education through the reading and discussion of works by black authors. The contents of the conversation circle and the video poems were presented by high school students, possibly allowing the classroom reflections to reach a wider audience, such as the institution's servers, other students, family members and the external community of IFSC Araranguá. It was observed that the activities provided moments of reflection among its participants, according to the qualitative data collection through a questionnaire with open and closed questions. Such activities foster the need for dialogue and reflection as anti-racist actions in education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Interest in the discussion of racial relations between white and black subjects has been gaining ground in several areas in Brazilian society since the late 1990s. In the field of the history of education, there has been a lot of research on the racial diversity of school groups, the discussion of affirmative action in higher education, debates on whether to rethink the school as a producer or reproducer of mechanisms of social and racial inequalities. It is concluded, through the research carried out, by the images of the graduation boards, we understand that access to professional school was the element of cohesion and power maintenance of the local and national white elite. That is, even if in the investigated period, blacks had the right to have access to a professional education, their presence, which is minimal, indicates that it was prohibited through discrimination or mechanisms that made it difficult for them to remain in this school and professionalizing space. The article addresses the history of the Iranian Plateau and its people, including the Persians and their relations with the ancient Greeks at the beginning of what later became known as Western Civilization. The objective was to highlight that the teaching of ancient history in Brazil needs to be rethought to avoid frequent inaccuracies, generalizations and inconsistencies, among others, in much of the bibliography available on the subject. To achieve this, it was based on more recent archaeological and historical research, which are decisive theoretical contributions to understanding the people of the Iranian Plateau in their diversity and historicity. This is a basic, qualitative, exploratory, explanatory research that used bibliographic and documentary procedures. It was concluded that ancient people must be studied in a contextualized way. The people of the Iranian Plateau need to have their diversity understood and cannot be treated as if they were all the same. Thus, although the Persians are the best known and studied people on the plateau, they were not the only ones, neither the first nor the last in that region. Thus, the article discusses a topic on which there is little research in Brazil and seeks to collaborate with the task of teaching ancient history in the country, in this case about the people of the Iranian Plateau. Therefore, it deals with the role of the Persians in the origins of the West, but seeks not to limit itself to this issue. Finally, the relevance of the study of antiquity in Basic Education is highlighted and some notes are made to contribute to this important task. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

From the measures taken to face the COVID-19 pandemic since 2020, adopting hybrid teaching has become one of the issues to be addressed in the educational agendas, however, it entails uncertainties and difficulties to carry out emancipatory practices. Conceptualizing hybrid teaching is not an easy task, several authors have done it, but in different ways. To identify the concepts of hybrid teaching that have prevailed in Brazilian education in the last 10 years, a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) has been carried out at the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD) and the Google Scholar and works that present superficial conceptions of hybrid teaching were identified, as well as others by Moura (2018); Costa (2019) and Fialho (2020), who based on Moran (2015) defend a new vision of hybrid teaching, which understands hybridization as a sociocultural process, in which structures and practices, once separated, become combine to generate new structures, objects and methods. MORAL education - Abstract
Wonder experiences that aim to promote perplexity, the formulation of hypotheses and the investigation of the meaning of human experience in teaching practices are scarce. Therefore, this article aims to identify and analyze the education of contemplative wonder articulated by Anders Schinkel for the educational field and moral education. This work, of a theoretical nature, is based on the theoretical framework of Schinkel's educational philosophical thought, in which we will analyze the author's main works. The research results indicate the potential of contemplative wonder for recognizing the limits of human knowledge, by providing an attitude of receptive attention to something that is familiar and promoting new possibilities and far-reaching and profound conceptions of reality. In addition, wonder opens horizons for us to establish a kind of relationship with the world of appreciation, respect and care for humanity and life forms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Atypical behaviors, destructive behaviors, self-injury, or compulsions can hinder the inclusion of children in schools. Several instruments are used to assess the occurrence and frequency of these behaviors, including the Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC), to evaluate whether the procedures implemented have successfully increased the frequency of more appropriate behaviors. Eighteen professionals used the ABC to assess the behaviors of their patients and students after a Behavioral Analysis teaching program. The program aimed to teach professionals how to manage atypical behaviors, reducing their occurrence and increasing the occurrence of other socially desirable behaviors. In pre and post-tests, a significant difference was observed in all domains listed in the ABC, implying that the occurrence of atypical behaviors decreased after participants engaged with the teaching program, with teachers achieving the best results in the post-test. The problems of (cyber)coexistence are increasingly present in the lives of our children and adolescents, so that using this technology ethically, consciously and positively has become a demand of education. Many schools face situations related to the improper and disrespectful use of cell phones and social networks, mainly involving students, but also educators and family members. Faced with this challenge, we propose the educational program "A Convivência Ética On-line", to be developed with students, which can inspire and guide educational and preventive actions by schools wishing to work with this issue. In this article we present the problems of coexistence that affect our students, such as cyberbullying, cyberaggression, virtual risks; and the main characteristics of the program for educators seeking to study and develop actions in search of ethical (cyber)coexistence.
