Introduction: Perceived social support is a psychological construct that is used to describe the 'perception of adequacy' of the support being provided by a person's social network. Higher perceived social support has been linked to multiple benefits across numerous studies over the past several decades and among multiple populations. The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) is a 12-item scale to assess the construct of perceived social support. The instrument has been translated to approximately 35 languages and dialects, but it has rarely been translated into tribal languages, which may be commonly spoken in rural areas. Further, such translations have not always been accompanied by cultural adaptation. Assessment of the encultured meaning of terms from a validated instrument is important alongside translation because words and terms related to perceived social support can be culturally specific. As such, this article presents a community-engaged research approach to develop a translation of the MSPSS into Diné bizaad (Navajo), along with a qualitative assessment of the meaning and implications of key terminology from the instrument. Methods: This study was led by a faculty member at a Native American-Serving Nontribal Institution (NASNTI) in south-western Colorado, US. Additional research collaborators included the original developer of the English MSPSS, a researcher with experience in methodology, and a member of the local Navajo community who was a student at the NASNTI. Using convenience and snowball sampling, a 2.5-hour focus group discussion was conducted and audio-recorded in May 2023 with eight Navajo community members who met eligibility criteria (including fluency in both Diné and English). All participants provided consent and received gratitude gifts for completion. Participants were four males and four females with an age range of 30-60 years. Since the discussion and recording were bilingual, a written English and Diné transcription was produced and anonymized, then reviewed by researchers. It was then backward-forward translated to English, then checked with discussion participants to validate accuracy. Using the general inductive method, key concepts and codes were separately identified and documented using NVivo 21 by two researchers. Full consensus as to coding was achieved over a sequence of six iterative consensus meetings among the coders. Results: The project was able to produce a harmonized version of the MSPSS translated into Diné bizaad that accounted for variation in meaning and intent of multiple core concepts of perceived social support. For example, concepts of 'family' and 'friend' were often characterized by ethnic clan-based close-knit bonds. The concept of 'significant other' often meant 'spouse' but sometimes also meant someone who was highly trusted, especially among unmarried discussants. 'Social support' was trust-based rather than need-based and often relied on gender-concordant bonding. Many additional nuances were discussed and are outlined in the full study. Discussion: Navajo community members were excited to collaboratively work on making this screening tool available in Diné bizaad. The translation that emerged from this process likely differed from what would have emerged from a direct translation without community input. Next steps for the tool should include quantitative reliability and validity analyses.

ABSTRACTThere is a continued need for research to better understand the influence social media has on parental vaccination attitudes and behaviors, especially research capturing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of this study was to explore parents’ perspectives related to the impact the pandemic had on 1) social media engagement, 2) vaccine messaging on social media, and 3) factors to guide future intervention development. Between February and March 2022, 6 online, synchronous, text-based focus groups were conducted with parents of adolescents aged 11 to 17 years. Participants who all utilized social media were recruited from across the United States. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. A total of 64 parents participated. Average age was 47 years, and participants were predominantly White (71.9%), female (84.3%), and engaged with social media multiple times per day (51.6%). Participants (95.3%) viewed obtaining all recommended vaccines as important or very important; however, overall vaccination rates for their adolescents were varied (50% ≥1 dose HPV; 59.4% MenACWY; 78.1% Tdap; 65.6% Flu; 81.3% COVID-19). Three themes emerged highlighting the pandemic’s impact on parent’s (1) general patterns of social media use, (2) engagement about vaccines on social media and off-line behaviors related to vaccination, and (3) perspectives for developing a credible and trustworthy social media intervention about vaccination. Participants reported fatigue from contentious vaccine-related content on social media and desired future messaging to be from recognizable health institutions/associations with links to reputable resources. Plus, providers should continue to provide strong vaccine recommendations in clinic.

ABSTRACTThe primary objective of this paper is to serve as a valuable resource for policymakers who are confronted with the evolving landscape of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), considering both free and cost-based vaccination approaches. The potential consequences of shifting from free to cost-based vaccination are explored, encompassing its impact on global vaccine equity and prioritization, economic well-being, healthcare systems and delivery, public health policies, and vaccine distribution strategies. Examining past studies on willingness to pay for the initial COVID-19 vaccine dose and booster shots provides insights into how individuals value COVID-19 vaccinations and underscores the significance of addressing issues related to affordability. If COVID-19 vaccinations incur expenses, using effective communication strategies that emphasize the importance of vaccination and personal health benefits can increase willingness to pay. Making COVID-19 vaccines accessible through public health programs or health insurance can help alleviate financial barriers and increase vaccination rates.

Although the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is effective at preventing infection and certain types of cancer, uptake is suboptimal. HPV vaccine requirements for school entry are an underutilized strategy to increase HPV vaccine uptake among adolescents. The purpose of this study was to understand the factors that are predictive of parents’ attitudes toward schools requiring the HPV vaccine for entry into middle school. Parents of adolescents ages 11–12 y were recruited to participate in an online survey via Qualtrics. Descriptive frequencies were obtained, and sequential regression analyses were conducted controlling for demographic characteristics. A total of 1,046 participants were included in the analysis. The mean age was 40.3 y (SD = 6.3) and the majority of participants were White (74.4%) and had some college education or higher (80.9%). Participant’s gender, political affiliation, urban/rural setting, and education level were significantly associated with attitudes toward school entry requirements. Adding psychosocial items related to perceptions of benefits, risks, and social norms significantly increased the amount of variance explained in the model [(ΔR2 = .312, F(5, 1036) = 132.621)]. Perceived social norms was the strongest predictor of attitudes [β = 0.321]. The results of this study can be used to inform policy changes around school-entry requirements in the United States. Further studies are needed to assess the influence of perceived social norms in vaccine hesitant groups.

Summary: Background: HPV test-based primary cervical screening is replacing cytology in Canada. In other countries, women's unpreparedness and concerns hindered the transition and post-implementation screening uptake. We investigated psychosocial correlates of intentions of screening in eligible individuals to participate in HPV-based primary cervical screening. Methods: We conducted a nationwide web-based survey of individuals aged 21–70 years in 2022 and oversampled under-screened individuals. We used five Canadian-validated scales to measure HPV test-based screening knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs. Using the multistage Precaution Adoption Process Model, we assessed women's stage of intentions to participate in HPV testing and self-sampling. We estimated associations of psychosocial factors with intentions' stage using multinomial logistic regression. Findings: In both groups (adequately screened n = 1778; under-screened n = 1570), higher HPV knowledge was associated with intention for HPV testing and more personal barriers to the HPV test were associated with lower intentions to participate in HPV testing or use of self-sampling. In both groups, higher self-sampling concerns were associated with lower intentions for self-sampling and higher women's need for autonomy was associated with increased intentions for self-sampling. Younger adults, aged 18–39 years, exhibit low COVID-19 additional vaccine (i.e., vaccination beyond the original 2-dose series) uptake recommended in Canada. No study has examined how altruistic and individualistic messaging can influence COVID-19 additional dose intentions. The present study aimed to estimate the efficacy of altruism and individualism-based videos on vaccine intentions and to explore the multivariable associations between vaccine related individual psychosocial factors and intention to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Using a web-based survey in a three-arm, pre-post randomized control trial design, we recruited Canadians aged 18–39 years in both English and French. Participants were randomly allocated in a 1:1:1 ratio to receive the active control (COVID-19 general information), control + altruism or control + altruism + individualism. The video interventions were developed with a media company, based on results of a focus group study conducted previously. The measurement of COVID-19 additional dosage intentions before and after completing the interventions was informed by the multistage Precaution Adoption Process Model. The McNemar Chi-square was used to evaluate within-group changes, and the Pearson Chi-square test was used to evaluate between-group changes post-intervention. The measurement of various psychosocial factors was informed by use of validated scale and self-report questions. We employed a generalized Structural Equation Model to evaluate the associations between COVID-19 vaccine intentions and the psychosocial factors. Analyses were performed on 3,431 participants (control: n = 1,149, control + altruism: n = 1,142, control + altruism + individualism: n = 1,140). Within-group results showed that participants transitioned significantly in all three groups in the direction of higher intentions for receiving additional COVID-19 vaccine doses. The between-group differences in post intervention vaccine intentions were not significant. We found that psychosocial factors that include, collectivism, intellectual humility, intolerance to uncertainty, religiosity, identifying as gender diverse, and being indigenous were associated with higher vaccine intentions, whereas pandemic fatigue was associated with lower vaccine intentions. Our study highlighted that a short video that includes altruism and individualism messaging or general COVID-19 information can increase intentions to vaccine among young adults. Furthermore, we gained a comprehensive understanding of various psychosocial factors that influence ongoing COVID-19 vaccination. Our findings can be used to influence public health messaging around COVID-19 vaccination.

Men aged 27 to 45 are eligible for human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination as of 2019, yet relatively little is known about whether they have received or intend to receive it. We conducted a cross-sectional, online survey among fathers aged 27 to 45 between March and April 2022, to assess associations between HPV vaccination awareness, behaviors, intentions, and psychosocial constructs from the Health Belief Model. We examined the characteristics of those who had (a) heard of the HPV vaccine, (b) already received ≥ 1 dose, and (c) intentions for future vaccination among those who had never been vaccinated. Among 400 men who completed the survey, 32% were not aware of the HPV vaccine. Among those who were aware, 41% had received ≥ 1 dose. Sixty-three percent of unvaccinated men reported that they intended to get vaccinated in the future. Multivariable logistic regression analyses revealed that age and race/ethnicity were associated with having been vaccinated previously. Among the unvaccinated, multivariable logistic regression analyses revealed that those with a higher perceived risk of HPV-associated cancer had 3.73 greater odds of reporting they would seek vaccination compared to those with lower perceived risk (95% confidence interval [CI] = [1.28, 12.3]). We did not find perceived benefits, barriers, or decision self-efficacy to be related to future vaccine intentions. Since recommendations for this group include shared clinical decision-making, public health efforts should focus on raising awareness of vaccine eligibility, emphasizing risk factors for HPV-associated cancers so that individuals have an accurate perception of risk, and encouraging conversation between men and their providers.

Widespread uptake of COVID-19 vaccination is vital to curtailing the pandemic, yet rates remain suboptimal in the U.S. Vaccine mandates have previously been successful, but are controversial. An April 2021 survey of a nationally representative sample (N = 1208) examined vaccine uptake, attitudes, and sociodemographic characteristics. Sixty-seven percent were vaccine acceptors, 14% wait-and-see, and 19% non-acceptors. Compared to wait-and-see and non-acceptors, acceptors were more likely to have a household member over age 65, have received a flu shot, have positive COVID-19 vaccine attitudes, and view COVID-19 vaccination as beneficial. Mandate support was higher among respondents who were vaccine acceptors, had positive views about COVID-19 vaccines, believed in COVID-19 preventive strategies, perceived COVID-19 as severe, were liberal, resided in the Northeast, were non-White, and had incomes < $75,000. Public health campaigns should target attitudes that appear to drive hesitancy and prepare for varying mandate support based on demographics, COVID-19 vaccine attitudes, and the scope of the mandate., Author(s): Julen N. The World Health Organization has designated vaccine hesitancy and vaccine confidence among the most pressing issues in global health. The COVID-19 pandemic has made vaccine hesitancy and vaccine confidence particularly salient and urgent. The purpose of this special issue is to highlight a broad range of perspectives on these critical issues. We have included a total of 30 papers that address issues related to vaccine hesitancy and vaccine confidence across multiple levels of the Socio-Ecological Model. We have organized the empirical papers into the following sections: individual-level beliefs, minority health and health disparities, social media and conspiracy beliefs, and interventions. In the United States, vaccination rates for many routinely recommended vaccines have recovered to pre-pandemic levels, yet human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates still lag pre-pandemic levels. This study sought to uncover the potential effects of the pandemic on attitudes about the HPV vaccine, and factors associated with changes in attitudes. We conducted a national survey (n = 3968) of U.S. mothers with children aged 9–17 years. Outcome variables measured changes in attitude toward the HPV vaccine following the pandemic. Two logistic regression models identified predictors of (1) those who did not have attitude changes (always negative vs. always positive), and (2) those who reported attitude changes (change to negative vs. change to positive). Attitudes toward the HPV vaccine remained unchanged in 78.9% of participants (58.1% positive, 20.8% negative). Of the 21.1% reporting changed attitudes, 9.6% changed to positive and 11.5% to negative. Those reporting changing to a negative attitude had a greater odds of reporting conservative political views, and being unsure/undecided about vaccinating their child against HPV compared to those who reported changing to a positive attitude. Targeted strategies are needed to address erosion in confidence in the HPV vaccine and other vaccines resulting from mis- and disinformation associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and future pandemics.

Guided by self-determination theory, the present study examines independent and interactive roles of self-efficacy and perceived social support in predicting types of academic motivation. Data were collected from 325 university undergraduates in 18-23 years of age (M = 21.09, SD = 1.34) from the fifth biggest city of South Asia. Results showed the independent and interactive effects of self-efficacy and social support from friends and from a significant other on intrinsic academic motivation after controlling the potential confounding due to demographics. Social support from friends, but not from family and a significant other, independently predicted extrinsic academic motivation. Neither self-efficacy nor social support significantly predicted amotivation.

The disrupted introduction of the HPV-based cervical screening program in several jurisdictions has demonstrated that the attitudes and beliefs of screening-eligible persons are critically implicated in the success of program implementation (including the use of self-sampling). As no up-to-date and validated measures exist measuring attitudes and beliefs towards HPV testing and self-sampling, this study aimed to develop and validate two scales measuring these factors. In October-November 2021, cervical screening-eligible Canadians participated in a web-based survey. In total, 44 items related to HPV testing and 13 items related to HPV self-sampling attitudes and beliefs were included in the survey. For both scales, the optimal number of factors was identified using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and parallel analysis. Item Response Theory (IRT) was applied within each factor to select items. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to assess model fit. After data cleaning, 1027 responses were analyzed. The HPV Testing Attitudes and Beliefs Scale (HTABS) had four factors, and twenty items were retained after item reduction. The HPV Self-sampling Attitudes and Beliefs Scale (HSABS) had two factors and seven items were retained. CFA showed a good model fit for both final scales. The developed scales will be a valuable resource to examine attitudes and beliefs in anticipation of, and to evaluate, HPV test-based cervical screening.

Studies have examined the assumption that teachers have previous perceptions, beliefs and knowledge about learning (Cochran-Smith & Villegas, 2015). This study presented the In-Action Mental Model of twenty leading artist-teachers while teaching Visual Arts in three Israeli art institutions of higher Education. Data was collected in two stages: videotaping of art lessons and stimulated recall interviews. Data was analyzed in three steps: Three artists-teachers' data was analyzed and based on the results, explicit (behavioral) and implicit (mental models) categories were built. In the second step, all the categories were analyzed in accordance to the three teachers' data. In the third step, data collected only from the artist-teacher that used different lesson patterns in the same lesson was analyzed. The teacher's mental model is influenced by the subject matter--visual arts. As evidence, the general mental model (Mevorach & Strauss, 2012) does not include all the components of the in-action mental model of teachers teaching visual arts. The characteristics of various types of subject matters may contribute to the understanding of the in-action mental model of teaching, and understand how these subject matters influence the in-action mental model, and the Teaching Model as a whole.

Many theoreticians focus on understanding the belief system regarding the mind of the learner--The Mind Theory. Olson & Brunner (1996) referred to this belief system as "folk psychology." They named the processes required to promote learners' knowledge and understanding "folk pedagogy." In their opinion, folk pedagogy reflects the learners' folk psychology. In other words, the study of folk psychology has focused on how everyday people--those without formal training in the various academic fields of science--go about attributing mental states. This domain has primarily been centered on intentional states reflective of an individual's beliefs and desires. The present study set up to characterize the folk psychology (contains expressions and summaries of various settings as a way of informally shaping quite general meanings or organizing experience) and the folk pedagogy, which deals with where, when and why people teach or educate one another in various ways for the sake of making out of things (Olson & Bruner, 1996) in early childhood education students with respect to education and care during the first three years of life and examine whether these views change during the course of their formal education. The sample comprised of 379 students of education majoring in early childhood education at three colleges in Israel. Data was gathered by a structured questionnaire examining five domains: the impact of year of life on child development, domains affecting child development, care and educational settings, care and educational methods and the role of caregivers. The findings reveal that the perceived influence of family care centers and daycare centers influence on child development decreases between the beginning and the end of their studies. The perceived effectiveness of coping through awareness increased, while strict coping methods were perceived as less effective after the training.

Rates of Human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination among pediatric survivors of cancer and patients with sickle cell disease are lower than the national average. While recent attention has focused on patient HPV vaccine hesitancy and refusal, less is known about provider-level and system-level barriers to vaccinations in pediatric hematology/oncology (PHO) populations. Applying thematic analysis to qualitative interviews with 20 pediatric hematology/oncology physicians and nurse practitioners, we examine their views regarding HPV vaccination, with a focus on access and barriers to providing HPV vaccination in PHO practices. Results demonstrated that despite 90% of interviewees supporting HPV vaccination in their population, the number of pediatric hematology/oncology providers who reported that they counsel about HPV or provide HPV vaccination was 45%, even in stem cell and sickle cell clinics, where other childhood vaccines are commonly provided. Clinicians identified provider-level, clinic-level, and system-level barriers to giving the HPV vaccination, including but not limited to time/flow constraints, lack of resources, and continued education regarding the HPV vaccine. These barriers impede the ability for pediatric hematology/oncology providers to counsel and provide HPV vaccination to this specialized population.

Background: In the United States, human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination among 27- to 45-y-olds (mid-adults) is recommended based on shared clinical decision making with a health care provider. We developed a patient decision aid tool to support the implementation of this mid-adult HPV vaccination guideline. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a patient decision aid tool for HPV vaccination, HPV DECIDE, compared with an information fact sheet among mid-adults who have not received the HPV vaccine. Method: Participants were recruited between December 2023 and January 2024. We used a randomized Solomon, 4-group, pretest/posttest design with mid-adults aged 27 to 45 y who were unvaccinated for HPV and balanced based on sex (n = 612). The primary outcome was decisional conflict. Intermediate outcomes included knowledge, behavioral expectancies, self-efficacy, and perceived risk. Variables were measured using validated scales. Pretest sensitization was not present; intervention and control groups were compared. Fixed-effects inverse-variance weighting was used to pool effect estimates and determine meta-analytic statistical significance across tests with and without pretest controls. Results: Participants in the intervention group had significantly lower total decisional conflict scores (B = −3.58, P = 0.007) compared with the control group. Compared with the control group, participants in the intervention group showed higher knowledge (B = 0.48, P = 0.020), greater intention to receive (B = 0.196, P = 0.049) and discuss the HPV vaccine (B = 0.324, P ≤ 0.001), and greater self-efficacy about HPV vaccine decision making (B = 3.28, P = 0.043). There were no statistically significant results for perceived risks of HPV infection. Conclusions: The HPV DECIDE tool for mid-adult HPV vaccination shows promise for immediate reductions in decisional conflict and improvement in knowledge, intentions, and self-efficacy about the HPV vaccine. Future studies are warranted to evaluate the effectiveness of this patient decision aid tool in real-world settings. The aim of this paper is to propose a research tool in the field of education--the "metaphorical collage." This tool facilitates the understanding of concepts and processes in education through the analysis of metaphors in collage works that include pictorial images and verbal images. We believe the "metaphorical collage" to be an important research tool that enables both researcher and research participant to understand children's worldview in regards to concepts in the field of education. The collage permits the use of expressive language in order to describe the question under investigation. The researcher has the ability to interpret the meaning of the events in which people are involved, and he is also capable of evaluating their educational significance. It is the researcher who is equipped with the requisite ability, sensitivity, and experience for conducting research by means of the "metaphorical collage." With the help of the collage, the educational situation is grasped, and its meaning is interpreted.

Abstract We analyze the de Sitter construction of [1] using ten-dimensional supergravity, finding exact agreement with the four-dimensional effective theory. Starting from the fermionic couplings in the D7-brane action, we derive the ten-dimensional stress-energy due to gaugino condensation on D7-branes. We demonstrate that upon including this stress-energy, as well as that due to anti-D3-branes, the ten-dimensional equations of motion require the four-dimensional curvature to take precisely the value determined by the four-dimensional effective theory of [1].

Nurses are the largest single occupation of health care providers and at greatest risk for exposure to and acquisition of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). In December 2020, nurses in Hawaii were recruited for an online survey that measured perceived risk/threat of COVID-19, vaccine attitudes, and perceived safety of COVID-19 vaccines, as well as level of intention: primary, secondary (i.e., delayed), or no intention to vaccinate. The final sample consisted of 423 nurses. Participants were primarily Asian (27.9%) and White (45.2%). The majority were 18–50 years (65.5%) and female (87.0%), held an RN license (91.7%), and identified as a staff nurse (57.7%) in the hospital setting (56.7%). Among participants, 52.3% indicated primary intention, 27.9% secondary intention, and 19.9% no intention to vaccinate. The strongest predictors of any level of intention were greater positive attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccination and lower concerns related to COVID-19 vaccine safety. Findings can guide interventions to support vaccine acceptance for those who initially decline vaccination.

Microbial technology offers a green alternative for the synthesis of value-added nanomaterials. In particular, fungal compounds can improve silver nanoparticle production, stabilizing colloidal nanoparticles. Based on a previous study by our group, silver nanoparticles obtained using the extracellular cell-free extracts of Phanerochaete chrysosporium (PchNPs) have shown antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity against Gram-negative bacteria. Moreover, nisin—a bacteriocin widely used as a natural food preservative—has recently gained much attention due its antimicrobial action against Gram-positive bacteria in biomedical applications. Therefore, the aim of this work was to conjugate biogenic silver nanoparticles (PchNPs) with nisin to obtain nanoconjugates (PchNPs@nis) with enhanced antimicrobial properties. Characterization assays were conducted to determine physicochemical properties of PchNPs@nis, and also their antibacterial and antibiofilm activities were studied. The formation of PchNPs@nis was confirmed by UV-Vis, TEM, and Raman spectroscopy analysis. Different PchNPs@nis nanobioconjugates showed diameter values in the range of 60–130 nm by DLS and surface charge values between −20 and −13 mV. Nisin showed an excellent affinity to PchNPs, with binding efficiencies higher than 75%. Stable synthesized PchNPs@nis nanobioconjugates were not only able to inhibit biofilm formation by S. aureus, but also showed inhibition of the planktonic cell growth of Staphyloccocus aureus and Escherichia coli, broadening the spectrum of action of the unconjugated antimicrobials against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. In conclusion, these results show the promising application of PchNPs@nis, prepared via green technology, as potential antimicrobial nanomaterials.

Abstract Background The availability of various types of COVID-19 vaccines and diverse characteristics of the vaccines present a dilemma in vaccination choices, which may result in individuals refusing a particular COVID-19 vaccine offered, hence presenting a threat to immunisation coverage and reaching herd immunity. The study aimed to assess global COVID-19 vaccination intention, vaccine characteristics influencing vaccination acceptance and desirable vaccine characteristics influencing the choice of vaccines. Methods An anonymous cross-sectional survey was conducted between 4 January and 5 March 2021 in 17 countries worldwide. Proportions and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) of COVID-19 vaccine acceptance and vaccine characteristics influencing vaccination acceptance were generated and compared across countries and regions. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to determine the factors associated with COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. Results Of the 19,714 responses received, 90.4% (95% CI 81.8–95.3) reported likely or extremely likely to receive COVID-19 vaccine. A high proportion of likely or extremely likely to receive the COVID-19 vaccine was reported in Australia (96.4%), China (95.3%) and Norway (95.3%), while a high proportion reported being unlikely or extremely unlikely to receive the vaccine in Japan (34.6%), the U.S. (29.4%) and Iran (27.9%). Males, those with a lower educational level and those of older age expressed a higher level of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. Less than two-thirds (59.7%; 95% CI 58.4–61.0) reported only being willing to accept a vaccine with an effectiveness of more than 90%, and 74.5% (95% CI 73.4–75.5) said they would accept a COVID-19 vaccine with minor adverse reactions. A total of 21.0% (95% CI 20.0–22.0) reported not accepting an mRNA vaccine and 51.8% (95% CI 50.3–53.1) reported that they would only accept a COVID-19 vaccine from a specific country‐of‐origin. Countries from the Southeast Asia region reported the highest proportion of not accepting mRNA technology. The highest proportion from Europe and the Americas would only accept a vaccine produced by certain countries. The foremost important vaccine characteristic influencing vaccine choice is adverse reactions (40.6%; 95% CI 39.3–41.9) of a vaccine and effectiveness threshold (35.1%; 95% CI 33.9–36.4). Conclusions The inter-regional and individual country disparities in COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy highlight the importance of designing an efficient plan for the delivery of interventions dynamically tailored to the local population.
