Abstract Nezha is a mythological and dynamic character in the Chinese cultural discourse. In traditional China, the mythological character of Nezha represents a cultural integration between Daoism and Buddhism. By applying the Chinese animated films as an approach, this article focuses on exploring the changing cultural discourses of the Chinese national style in post-Maoist cinema through critical analysis of the character of Nezha and the deployment of Daoist philosophy in the construction of Chinese national style from the post-Cultural Revolution context to the post-Socialist context. This article examines two Chinese national-style animated films. The first film is Nezha Naohai (1979) which was produced in 1979, and another animated film is Nezha Zhi Motong Jiangshi (2019) which was produced in contemporary China. Through the film and cultural analysis of Nezha Naohai (1979), this article argues that the Daoist philosophy engages in the cultural discourse of Chinese national style and shapes the narrative, rhetoric, aesthetics and characterisation of Nezha in the post-Cultural Revolution context. The contemporary film Nezha Zhi Montong Jiangshi (2019) reflects an ideological change in the discourse of Chinese soft power states the power of Chinese culture including Daoist philosophy within a modern and scientific paradigm, which promotes a more international Chinese national identity and national style.

Abstract Background Glucocorticoids and Beta-2 receptor agonists are commonly used for the treatment of asthma in clinical practice, while these agents are accompanied by adverse reactions of different kinds. Studies have shown that acupuncture is effective in treating bronchial asthma. However, different acupuncture modalities have different costs and skill requirements, and there remains a lack of comparisons between different acupuncture modalities. This study aims to assess the efficacy of various acupuncture modalities in the treatment of asthma. Methods The following databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on acupuncture for the treatment of bronchial asthma from database inception to August 26, 2022: PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Chinese Journal Full-text Database (CNKI), Wanfang Database (Wanfang Date), VIP Database (VIP), China Biology Medicine disc (CBM). Stata 15.1 software was used to conduct network meta-analysis. The risk of bias in the included studies was evaluated using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Assessment Tool 2 (RoB2). Results A total of 8,693 relevant studies were found, and 30 RCTs were included, involving 2,722 patients with bronchial asthma and eight acupuncture modalities: manual acupuncture, moxibustion, electroacupuncture, ignipuncture, flying needle acupuncture, acupoint catgut embedding, acupoint application, and warm-needle moxibustion. Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease frequently associated with airway inflammation and remodeling. The development of asthma involves various inflammatory phenotypes that impact therapeutic effects, and macrophages are master innate immune cells in the airway that exert diverse functions including phagocytosis, antigen presentation, and pathogen clearance, playing an important role in the pathogeneses of asthma. Recent studies have indicated that autophagy of macrophages affects polarization of phenotype and regulation of inflammation, which implies that regulating autophagy of macrophages may be a potential strategy for the treatment of asthma. Thus, this review summarizes the signaling pathways and effects of macrophage autophagy in asthma, which will provide a tactic for the development of novel targets for the treatment of this disease.

6. −254C>G SNP in the TRPC6 Gene Promoter Influences Its Expression via Interaction with the NF-κB Subunit RELA in Steroid-Resistant Nephrotic Syndrome Children

This study is aimed at exploring the mechanism by which the −254C>G single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) on the transient receptor potential cation channel 6 (TRPC6) gene promoter could increase its activation in steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome children of China. Plasmids containing the TRPC6 promoter region (with the −254C or G allele) were constructed and then transfected into human embryonic kidney (HEK) 293T cells and human podocytes. Luciferase assays were used to test the promoter activity in both cell lines with or without tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) treatment, and chromatin immunoprecipitation-polymerase chain reaction (ChIP-PCR) analysis was used to verify the transcription factor that could bind to this mutant sequence. Luciferase results indicate that the activity of the mutant promoter was greater than that of the normal promoter of the TRPC6 gene in both cell lines. We further predicted and verified that this variation was mediated by the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) subunit RELA, and TNF-α significantly enhanced the transcription activity of TRPC6 with the −254G allele. In conclusion, the −254C>G SNP is a gain-of-function variation of the TRPC6 gene, and it is also an early and effective factor for predicting steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) in Chinese children.

7. The effects of harvesting media on biological characteristics and repair potential of neural stem cells after traumatic brain injury.

Various solutions are utilized widely for the isolation, harvesting, sorting, testing and transplantation of neural stem cells (NSCs), whereas the effects of harvesting media on the biological characteristics and repair potential of NSCs remain unclear. To examine some of these effects, NSCs were isolated from cortex of E14.5 mice and exposed to the conventional harvesting media [0.9% saline (Saline), phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) or artificial cerebrospinal fluid (ACSF)] or the proliferation culture medium (PCM) for different durations at 4°C. Treated NSCs were grafted by in situ injection into the lesion sites of traumatic brain injury (TBI) mice. In vitro, harvesting media-exposed NSCs displayed time-dependent reduction of viability and proliferation. S phase entry decreased in harvesting media-exposed cells, which was associated with upregulation of p53 protein and downregulation of cyclin E1 protein. Moreover, harvesting media exposure induced the necrosis and apoptosis of NSCs. The levels of Fas-L, cleaved caspase 3 and 8 were increased, which suggests that the death receptor signaling pathway is involved in the apoptosis of NSCs. In addition, exposure to Saline did not facilitate the neuronal differentiation of NSCs, suggesting that Saline exposure may be disadvantageous for neurogenesis. In vivo, NSC-mediated functional recovery in harvesting media-exposed NSC groups was notably attenuated in comparison with the PCM-exposed NSC group. In conclusion, harvesting media exposure modulates the biological characteristics and repair potential of NSCs after TBI. Our results suggest that insight of the effects of harvesting media exposure on NSCs is critical for developing strategies to assure the successful long-term engraftment of NSCs.

Future technology can inspire “awe”, the deep feeling of astonishment that can include fear, resulting in often “awe-some” but sometimes also “aw(e)-ful” experiences. We are interested in exploring the potential of future technology beyond any immediate obvious application domain and hence draw from prior work and our own design research (through three case studies) to propose the “technology futures” approach that uses awe as a driver for exploring future technology's potential. Guided by awe's need for sense-making, the approach suggests that experiencing future technology in alternative, playful ways and through a first-hand approach can allow for shared reflections, leading to a more informed view of future technology's potential. Our “technology futures” approach has three stages (envisioning, concretizing, and futuring) towards awe-inspiring futures. We illustrate these stages using three case studies: jogging with a quadcopter, ingestible play, and shape-changing furniture. Furthermore, we use these case studies to articulate a set of strategies to help those who want to engage with the technology futures approach. Ultimately, with our work, we aim to enhance our understanding of how HCI can engage with designing awe-inspiring futures to support reflections around possible futures.

The present paper aims to explore whether college students suffer more anxiety in online classes and what factors may affect students' anxiety. The study finds that in addition to demographic variables like age and gender, factors such as grade, English test scores, self-concept, and network stability can lead to students' anxiety. 11. Molecular Dynamics Simulation and Experimental Analysis of the Effect of Ultrasonic Disposal on the Compatibility of NanoAsphalt

Based on LAMMPS molecular dynamics simulation of nano-silica(nano-SiO2) and asphalt molecular motion trajectory in the ultrasonic environment, the nano-SiO2 modified asphalt mixed model was proposed, and then the ultrasonic vibration process was simulated by the periodic displacement method. The solubility parameter and viscosity of the mixed model were simulated and calculated to reveal the compatibility changes of the modified asphalt from a microscopic perspective. Different temperatures and ultrasonic frequencies were achieved by changing the temperature parameter and the period parameter of the simple harmonic motion equation. Besides, to characterize the effect of ultrasonic vibration on the promotion of nano-SiO2-asphalt compatibility, the prepared nano-SiO2 modified asphalt was subjected to viscosity testing through viscosity change. The results show that the simulation could accurately predict the experimental phenomena, and the molecular simulation can be used as an effective method to study the properties of asphalt materials. The compatibility of nano-SiO2 and asphalt is positively correlated with ultrasonic temperature and ultrasonic frequency to some extent. The compatibility effect is best at 130 °C, 40 KHz. When the ultrasound frequency exceeds a certain value, the effect of promoting compatibility is not obvious.

Human–computer interaction (HCI) is increasingly interested in supporting exertion experiences so more people can benefit from physical activity. So far, most systems have focused on sensing and presenting information to the user via screens to support the exertion experience. Interestingly, emerging technology can also act on the exerting user’s body based on sensed information, granting researchers the potential to develop technology that not only “presents” but also “acts” on information throughout an integrated exertion experience. As a result, design opportunities surrounding computing machinery as contextually aware exertion partners are now available. However, there are currently no frameworks to guide the design of human–computer integration in an exertion context. To contribute to closing this gap, we designed three eBike systems to investigate different forms of integration with the exerting user and we studied the resulting user experiences. Based on the results of these three case studies, we present the first framework, including associated design tactics, to offer guidance on how to design human–computer integration in an exertion context. Integrating computers with the human body is not new. however, we believe that with rapid technological advancements, increasing real-world deployments, and growing ethical and societal implications, it is critical to identify an agenda for future research. We present a set of challenges for HInt research, formulated over the course of a five-day workshop consisting of 29 experts who have designed, deployed and studied HInt systems. This agenda aims to guide researchers in a structured way towards a more coordinated and conscientious future of human-computer integration. Human-Computer Integration (HInt) is an emerging paradigm in the human-computer interaction (HCI) field. Its goal is to integrate the human body and the computational machine. Because HInt is not an isolated area of research, the authors draw upon discussions from related perspectives, including cybernetics, augmentation, cyborgs, and wearables. While these prior works provide a basis for HInt, and some of their associated challenges also apply to HInt, the authors focus on articulating the HInt challenges that are of particular relevance to HCI. The monograph makes three contributions: First, the authors apply two key dimensions from psychology – bodily agency and bodily ownership – to enhance our understanding of HInt systems. Second, they use these two dimensions to provide new perspectives on user integration experiences and to develop an integration systems design space. Third, they use the design space and its two dimensions to articulate HInt's key challenges and group these challenges into four areas: design, society, identity, and technology. Ultimately, the work aims to facilitate a more structured investigation into human body and computational machine integration.

Focusing on the influence of Maoist ideology and masculinist power on the representations of women in revolutionary opera films made during the Cultural Revolution, this book considers the gendered hierarchy between masculinity and femininity in relation to the historic and cultural context in which they were made.Using feminist methodology and epistemology to locate women's social identity, this book explores the sociological connections between the masculinisation of women and masculinist domination in the context of the Cultural Revolution. Through film analysis, the author examines whether women, rather than'liberated', were in fact re-gendered and oppressed by masculinist power. By critically evaluating gender hierarchy during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, the book provides hitherto neglected insights into gender within its social and cultural context. This an interdisciplinary book which should appeal to students and scholars across a range of disciplines, including gender studies, Asian studies, China studies, cultural studies and film studies.

18. Effects of Sea-Buckthorn Flavonoids on Growth Performance, Serum Inflammation, Intestinal Barrier and Microbiota in LPS-Challenged Broilers

The experiment investigated the effects of sea-buckthorn flavonoids (SF) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-challenged broilers. A total of 288 one-day-old male broilers were randomly assigned to 4 groups, with 6 replicates of 12 broilers each. The experiment lasted for 20 days. The diet included two levels of SF (0 or 1000 mg/kg) and broilers intraperitoneally injected with 500 μg/kg LPS on 16, 18, and 20 days, or an equal amount of saline. LPS challenge decreased final body weight, average daily gain, and average daily feed intake, increased feed-to-gain ratio, and elevated serum IL-1β, IL-2, TNF-α, D-LA, and endotoxin levels. Moreover, it resulted in a reduction in the IL-10 level. LPS impaired the intestinal morphology of the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum, down-regulated the mRNA relative expression of Occludin, ZO-1, and MUC-2 in the jejunum mucosa, up-regulated the mRNA relative expression of TLR4, MyD88, NF-κB, and IL-1β, and increased the relative abundance of Erysipelatoclostridium in broilers (p < 0.05). However, SF supplementation mitigated the decrease in growth performance, reduced serum IL-1β, IL-2, and D-LA levels, increased IL-10 levels, alleviated intestinal morphological damage, up-regulated mRNA expression of Occludin and ZO-1, down-regulated the mRNA expression of TLR4, NF-κB, and IL-lβ in jejunum mucosal (p < 0.05), and SF supplementation presented a tendency to decrease the relative abundance of proteobacteria (0.05 < p < 0.1). Collectively, incorporating SF can enhance the growth performance, alleviate serum inflammation, and improve the intestinal health of broilers, effectively mitigating the damage triggered by LPS-challenges.

This retrospective study aimed to investigate the effect and safety of Yiqibushenhuoxue decoction (YQBSHXD) for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study involved 120 cases of patients with COPD. These cases were assigned to an intervention group and a control group equally, 60 subjects each group. Patients in both groups underwent Salmeterol. In addition, the cases in the intervention group also received YQBSHXD. All cases received a total of 12 weeks treatment. The primary outcome of lung function was measured by forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), and FEV1/forced vital capacity (FVC). The secondary outcomes included severity of dyspnea on exertion, evaluated by 6-minute walk test (6MWT) with measurement of 6-minute walk distance (6MWD); and quality of life, assessed by the St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ). In addition, adverse events (AEs) were also recorded in this study. All outcome measurements were assessed before and after 12-week treatment. After 12-week treatment, cases in the intervention group underwent YQBSHXD did not show better outcome in lung function improvement, measured by the FEV1 (P = .11), and FEV1/FVC (P = .15), compared with those in the control group. 20. The Impact of Lactobacillus delbrueckii Hepatic Metabolism in Post-Weaning Piglets

Lactobacillus delbrueckii garners interest for its contributions to gut microecological balance, diarrheal prevention and treatment, immune modulation, growth promotion, and meat quality enhancement in livestock. However, its impact on the gut microbiota and liver metabolism in weaned piglets is less documented. This study involved 80 Duroc-Landrace-Yorkshire weaned piglets aged 28 days, randomized into two groups with four replicates each and ten piglets per replicate. Over a 28-day period, the piglets were fed either a basal diet (control group) or the same diet supplemented with 0.1% Lactobacillus delbrueckii microcapsules (≥1.0 × 1010 CFU/g) (Lactobacillus delbrueckii group). The principal findings are as follows: During the initial phase of the experiment, supplementation with Lactobacillus delbrueckii increased the levels of L-phenylalanine and L-lysine in the liver while reducing the L-alanine levels, thereby enhancing the aminoacyl–tRNA synthesis pathway in weaned piglets. In the later phase, Lactobacillus delbrueckii supplementation boosted the liver arachidonic acid content, strengthening the arachidonic acid metabolic pathway in the piglets. The gut microbiota and their metabolites likely play a role in regulating these processes. These results indicate that, compared to the control group, Lactobacillus delbrueckii reduced weaning stress-induced liver damage and metabolic disorders, increased liver glycogen content, and enhanced liver antioxidant function by improving the metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates. Consequently, the liver functioned more healthily.

21. Effects of dietary sodium butyrate on growth performance, immune function, and intestinal microflora of Chinese soft-shelled turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis)

The Chinese soft-shelled turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis) has become increasingly susceptible to frequent diseases with the intensification of farming, which severely impacts the development of the aquaculture industry. Sodium butyrate (SB) is widely used as a feed additive due to its promotion of growth, enhancement of immune function, and antioxidative properties. This study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary SB on the growth performance, immune function, and intestinal microflora of Chinese soft-shelled turtles. A total of 300 Chinese soft-shelled turtles (mean weight: 11.36 ± 0.21g) were randomly divided into four groups with three parallel sets in each group. Each group was fed a diet supplemented with 0%, 0.005%, 0.01%, or 0.02% SB for 60 days. The results demonstrated an upward trend in weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) with increasing SB supplementation, and the experimental group fed with 0.02% SB showed a significant increase in WGR and SGR compared to other groups (P< 0.05). These levels of SB also decreased the levels of feed conversion ratio (FCR) and the total cholesterol (TC) content of Chinese soft-shelled turtles, and the 0.02% SB was significantly lower than that of other groups (P< 0.05). The activity of complement protein in vivo increased with increases in SB content, and the activities of complement C3 and C4 reached the highest level with 0.02% SB. The species abundance of the experimental group D fed with 0.02% SB was significantly higher than that of other groups (P< 0.05). Furthermore, the relative abundance of Clostridium sensu stricto 1 was significantly increased with 0.02% SB (P< 0.05). In conclusion, adding 0.02% SB to the diet improves the growth performance, feed digestion ability, and intestinal microbiota of Chinese soft-shelled turtles.

Various solutions are utilized widely for the isolation, harvesting, sorting, testing and transplantation of neural stem cells (NSCs), whereas the effects of harvesting media on the biological characteristics and repair potential of NSCs remain unclear. To examine some of these effects, NSCs were isolated from cortex of E14.5 mice and exposed to the conventional harvesting media [0.9% saline (Saline), phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) or artificial cerebrospinal fluid (ACSF)] or the proliferation culture medium (PCM) for different durations at 4°C. Treated NSCs were grafted by in situ injection into the lesion sites of traumatic brain injury (TBI) mice. In vitro, harvesting media-exposed NSCs displayed time-dependent reduction of viability and proliferation. S phase entry decreased in harvesting media-exposed cells, which was associated with upregulation of p53 protein and downregulation of cyclin E1 protein. Moreover, harvesting media exposure induced the necrosis and apoptosis of NSCs. The levels of Fas-L, cleaved caspase 3 and 8 were increased, which suggests that the death receptor signaling pathway is involved in the apoptosis of NSCs. In addition, exposure to Saline did not facilitate the neuronal differentiation of NSCs, suggesting that Saline exposure may be disadvantageous for neurogenesis. In vivo, NSC-mediated functional recovery in harvesting media-exposed NSC groups was notably attenuated in comparison with the PCM-exposed NSC group. In conclusion, harvesting media exposure modulates the biological characteristics and repair potential of NSCs after TBI. Our results suggest that insight of the effects of harvesting media exposure on NSCs is critical for developing strategies to assure the successful long-term engraftment of NSCs.

Background: Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is a highly lethal malignancy that carries an extremely poor prognosis due to its chemoresistant nature. Cisplatin (CDDP) is a first-line chemotherapeutic for GBC; however, patients experienced no benefit when treated with CDDP alone. The underlying mechanisms of CDDP resistance in GBC remain largely unknown. Methods: Agilent mRNA microarray analysis was performed between paired GBC and paracarcinoma to explore differentially expressed genes that might underlie drug resistance. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) was employed to identify key genes mediating CDDP resistance in GBC, and immunohistochemistry was performed to validate protein expression and test correlations with clinicopathological features. In vitro and in vivo functional assays were performed to investigate the proteins’ roles in CDDP resistance. Results: Olfactomedin 4 (OLFM4) was differentially expressed between GBC and paracarcinoma and had the highest rank metric score in the GSEA. OLFM4 expression was increasingly upregulated from chronic cholecystitis to GBC in clinical tissue samples, and OLFM4 depletion decreased GBC cell proliferation and invasion. Interestingly, downregulation of OLFM4 reduced ARL6IP1 (antiapoptotic factor) expression and sensitized GBC cells to CDDP both in vitro and in vivo. The evidence indicated that CDDP could significantly increase Bax and Bad expression and activate caspase-3 cascade in OLFM4-depleted GBC cells through ARL6IP1. Clinically, lower OLFM4 expression was associated with good prognosis of GBC patients. Conclusions: Our results suggest that OLFM4 is an essential gene that contributes to GBC chemoresistance and could serve as a prognostic biomarker for GBC. Importantly, OLFM4 could be a potential chemotherapeutic target.
