Hydrothermal‐based direct regeneration of spent Li‐ion battery (LIB) cathodes has garnered tremendous attention for its simplicity and scalability. However, it is heavily reliant on manual disassembly to ensure the high purity of degraded cathode powders, and the quality of regenerated materials. In reality, degraded cathodes often contain residual components of the battery, such as binders, current collectors, and graphite particles. Thorough investigation is thus required to understand the effects of these impurities on hydrothermal‐based direct regeneration. In this study, we focus on isolating the effects of aluminum (Al) scraps on the direct regeneration process. We found that Al metal can be dissolved during the hydrothermal relithiation process. Even when the cathode material contains up to 15 wt.% Al scraps, no detrimental effects were observed on the recovered structure, chemical composition, and electrochemical performance of the regenerated cathode material. The regenerated NCM cathode can achieve a capacity of 163.68 mAh/g at 0.1 C and exhibited a high‐capacity retention of 85.58 % after cycling for 200 cycles at 0.5 C. Therefore, the hydrothermal‐based regeneration method is effective in revitalizing degraded cathode materials, even in the presence of notable Al impurity content, showing great potential for industrial applications. Objective: This survey aims to explore the current medical treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in China and match its degree with Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments (CANMAT). Methods: A total of 3275 patients were recruited from 16 mental health centers and 16 general hospitals in China. Descriptive statistics presented the total number and percentage of drugs, as well as all kinds of treatments. Results: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) accounted for the largest proportion (57.2%), followed by serotonin-noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) (22.8%) and mirtazapine (7.0%) in the first therapy, while that of SNRIs (53.9%) followed by SSRIs (39.2%) and mirtazapine (9.8%) in the follow-up therapy. An average of 1.85 medications was administered to each MDD patient. Conclusion: SSRIs were the first choice in the first therapy, while the proportion of those drugs decreased during the follow-up therapy and were replaced by SNRIs. Plenty of combined pharmacotherapies were directly selected as the first trial of patients, which was inconsistent with guideline recommendations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Comorbid somatic diseases increase the death risk and affect the condition, treatment, and prognosis of older psychiatric patients. We investigated the comorbidity and drug treatment in older patients with psychosis. Methods: This retrospective study used data from 3,115 older psychiatric in-patients hospitalized at the Shanghai Mental Health Center Affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, China discharged from 2005 to 2015. Descriptive analyses of patients' age, sex, treatment drugs, diagnoses (based on ICD-10), and time trend were performed. Results: Patients' median age was 56 (range, 50-98) years; 1,824 (58.6%) were female. The top five first-level diagnoses were schizophrenia (F20) (n = 1,818, 58.3%), depressive episode (F32) (n = 457, 14.6%), bipolar affective disorder (F31) (n = 151, 4.8%), manic episode (F30), (n = 143, 4.6%), and vascular dementia (F01) (n = 136, 4.4%). Mental (99.9%), central nervous system (85.2%), digestive system (83.5%), cardiovascular system (72.5%), and anti-infective (59.6%) drugs had the highest prescription rates. The combined use of antidepressants, anti-anxiety, anti-arrhythmic, hormones and endocrine system drugs were significantly higher in female than in male patients, while mood stabilizers and genitourinary system drugs significantly more frequent in men. With increasing age, the F20-F29 patients decreased, while F00-F09 patients increased, with the corresponding changes to prescription in those patients. In comparison to that in 2005-2010, the combined prescriptions for genitourinary and cardiovascular drugs increased between 2011 and 2015, and F00-F09 and F40-F48 older patients doubled, accordingly anti-Alzheimer's disease drugs and antidepressants more than doubled. F30-F39 patients increased by 49.1%, and anti-anxiety drugs, mood stabilizers, etc. increased by ≥50%; F20-F29 older patients decreased by 26.7%, while antipsychotics only increased by 4.4%. Conclusions: This study found the combined drug treatment of somatic diseases, particularly for central nervous, digestive, cardiovascular, respiratory and genitourinary drugs were extremely common among older psychiatric in-patients in China. With increasing age, the F20-F29 patients decreased, while F00-F09 patients increased; the antipsychotics prescriptions decreased, and almost all comorbidity drugs increased. Compared with that in 2005-2010, the older patients with all diagnosis except F20-F29 increased in 2011-2015, and the prescriptions for psychotropic, genitourinary, and cardiovascular drugs increased. Background. The cross-sectional study is aimed at investigating the relationship between cortisol, testosterone, and metabolic characteristics among male schizophrenics. Methods. 174 patients were grouped based on their risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) into the non-MetS, high-risk-MetS (HR-MetS), or MetS groups. Metabolic indices (body mass index (BMI), mean arterial pressure (MAP), cholesterol, triglyceride, and fasting blood glucose (FBG)) were associated with cortisol and testosterone levels using correlation analysis. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to associate the correlations between the WHO Quality of Life–BREF (WHOQOL–BREF) score and the five metabolic indices. Results. The WHOQOL–BREF score for the non-MetS group significantly differed from the scores of the HR-MetS and MetS groups. The triglyceride level was positively correlated with the cortisol level, while all five metabolic indices were negatively correlated with testosterone level. Stepwise regression analysis produced a model predicting WHOQOL–BREF scores with four variables including MAP, intelligence quotient (IQ), FBG, and age. The correlation analysis then showed that there was a weak linear correlation between the testosterone level and all five metabolic indices. Conclusions. Among the five metabolic indices, the risks of hypertension and hyperglycemia are correlated with the quality of life in male schizophrenics rather than those of obesity or hyperlipidemia. Objective: Neuroendocrine dysfunction is related to the pathogenesis of mental disorders, but conclusions from clinical research lack consistency. We aimed to investigate the neuroendocrinal pathophysiology and its correlation with clinical symptoms in patients with schizophrenia. Methods: The present cross-sectional study included 486 inpatients with schizophrenia admitted at a psychiatric hospital in Shanghai within one year, and 154 healthy controls (HC) matched on age and gender. The serum hemoconcentrations of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), total triiodothyronine (TT3), total thyroxine (TT4), free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), and cortisol (COR) were measured via electrochemical luminescence immunoassay. Pathophysiological conversions of neuroendocrine were then associated with gender, age, age at onset, antipsychotic treatment using hierarchical multiple linear regression. Results: When compared to HC, the schizophrenia group showed elevated ACTH and COR levels and decreased TT3 and TT4 levels (p 's < 0.05). First-episode patients showed lower TSH and higher FT3 and FT4 (p 's < 0.05) compared to recurrent patients. Female patients showed higher TSH and lower TT3, FT3, and ACTH levels (p 's < 0.05) compared to males. We observed the area under the curve (AUC) of the predictive model to distinguish between schizophrenia and HC to be 0.737 among total samples and between first-episode and recurrent schizophrenia to be 0.890 among subgroups. Conclusions: Decreased TT3 and TT4 and elevated ACTH and COR levels appear to be associated with schizophrenia symptoms. The chronic recurrent trait of schizophrenia may cause long-term effects on FT3 and FT4 while changes in thyroid, and adrenal function as a result of mental disorder varied with gender. Background: Two-thirds of major depressive disorder (MDD) patients initially present with somatic symptoms, yet no study has used approaches based on somatic symptoms to subtype MDD. This study aimed to classify MDD via somatic symptoms and tracked the prognosis of each subtype., Methods: Data were obtained from the study of Algorithm Guided Treatment Strategies for Major Depressive Disorder (AGTs-MDD). We recruited 395 subjects who received monotherapy of mirtazapine or escitalopram and conducted 2-, 4-, 6-, 8-, and 12-week follow-up assessments ( n = 311, 278, 251, 199, and 178, respectively). Latent profile analysis (LPA) was performed on somatic symptom items of the depression and somatic symptoms scale (DSSS). Generalized linear mixed models (GLMM) were used to study the longitudinal prognosis of the subtypes classed by LPA. Primary outcome measures were the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), HAMD score reduction rate, as well as somatic and depressive items of DSSS., Results: Three subtypes of MDD were found, namely, depression with mild somatic symptoms (68.9%), depression with moderate somatic symptoms (19.2%), and depression with severe somatic symptoms (11.9%). Scores of HAMD ( F = 3.175, p = 0.001), somatic ( F = 23.594, p < 0.001), and depressive ( F = 4.163, p < 0.001) DSSS items throughout the 12-week follow-up showed statistical difference among the three subtypes. Objectives: Conventional biochemical indexes may have predictive values in clinical identification between bipolar disorder (BD) and major depressive disorder (MDD)., Methods: This study included 2,470 (BD/MDD = 1,333/1,137) hospitalized patients in Shanghai as training sets and 2,143 (BD/MDD = 955/1,188) in Hangzhou as test sets. A total of 35 clinical biochemical indexes were tested, including blood cells, immuno-inflammatory factors, liver enzymes, glycemic and lipid parameters, and thyroid and gonadal hormones. A stepwise analysis of a multivariable logistic regression was performed to build a predictive model to identify BD and MDD., Results: Most of these biochemical indexes showed significant differences between BD and MDD groups, such as white blood cell (WBC) in the hematopoietic system, uric acid (UA) in immuno-inflammatory factors, direct bilirubin (DBIL) in liver function, lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) in enzymes, and fasting blood glucose (FBG) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in glucolipid metabolism ( p -values < 0.05). With these predictors for discrimination, we observed the area under the curve (AUC) of the predictive model to distinguish between BD and MDD to be 0.772 among men and 0.793 among women, with the largest AUC of 0.848 in the luteal phase of women. The χ 2 values of internal and external validation for male and female datasets were 2.651/10.264 and 10.873/6.822 ( p -values < 0.05), respectively. The AUCs of the test sets were 0.696 for males and 0.707 for females., Conclusion: Discrimination and calibration were satisfactory, with fair-to-good diagnostic accuracy and external calibration capability in the final prediction models. Background: Inflammation that is mediated by microglia activation plays an important role in the pathogenesis of depression. Microglia activation can lead to an increase in the levels of proinflammatory cytokines, including TNF-α, which leads to neuronal apoptosis in the specific neural circuits of some brain regions, abnormal cognition and treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Protein kinase C (PKC) is a key regulator of the microglia activation process. We assume that the abnormality in PKC might result in abnormal microglia activation, neuronal apoptosis, significant changes in emotional and cognitive neural circuits, and TRD. In the current study, we plan to target at the PKC signal pathway to improve the TRD treatment outcome., Methods and Analysis: This is a 12-week, ongoing, randomised, placebo-controlled trial. Patients with TRD (N=180) were recruited from Shanghai Mental Health Center, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Healthy control volunteers (N=60) were recruited by advertisement. Patients with TRD were randomly assigned to 'escitalopram+golimumab (TNF-α inhibitor)', 'escitalopram+calcium tablet+vitamin D (PKC activator)' or 'escitalopram+placebo' groups. We define the primary outcome as changes in the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17). The secondary outcome is defined as changes in anti-inflammatory effects, cognitive function and quality of life., Discussion: This study might be the first randomised, placebo-controlled trial to target at the PKC signal pathway in patients with TRD. Abstract: Bipolar disorder (BD)-mania is related to the dysfunction of anterior pituitary gland, but the pituitary-thyroid interaction on the acute stage of BD has been controversial. In order to rule out the effects of drugs, we aimed to determine the upstream interaction of first-episode of BD type I in mania state, and tried to find the relationship between thyroid-stimulating-hormone (TSH) and Prolactin (PRL)This study included 70 real-world patients diagnosed with first-episode BD-mania recuited and 70 healthy controls (HC) matched for age and sex from 2016 to 2017 in the same district of Shanghai. We compared the levels of thyroid hormones and prolactin between the two groups, and linear regression and curve estimation were used for the correlation analysis of TSH and PRLThere were differences in triiodothyronine (TT3), total thyroxin (TT4), and free thyroxine (FT4) concentrations between the groups (P's < .05). After being grouped by sex, higher PRL in the male and female BD-mania subgroup were observed compared to each isosexual HC [(P's < .01, Cohen's d = 0.82/1.08, 95%CI (0.33, 1.31)/(0.58, 1.58)]. Higher FT4 in the male BD-mania group was observed compared to the HC males [(P's  < .01, Cohen's d = 0.90, 95%CI (0.41, 1.39)] while the female BD-mania group showed lower TT3 and TT4 compared to the HC females [(P's  < .01, Cohen's d = 0.93/0.88, 95%CI (0.43, 1.42)/(0.39, 1.37)]. In the female BD-mania group, correlation analysis established an inverse relationship between PRL and TSH (r2 = 0.25, F = 11.11, P < .01).The findings demonstrate that sex impacts the concentration of hormones secreted by the anterior pituitary of patients with first-episode BD-mania. The increased PRL may be a putative mechanism that underlies the onset in female patients with a moderate inverse relationship between TSH and PRL. The neural networks that constitute corticostriatothalamocortical circuits between prefrontal cortex and subcortical structure provide a heuristic framework for bridging gaps between neurocircuitry and executive dysfunction in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). "Cool" and "Hot" executive functional theory and the models of dual pathway are supposed to be applied within the neuropsychology of ADHD. The theoretical model elaborated response inhibition and delayed gratification in ADHD. We aimed to review and summarize the literature about the circuits on ADHD and ADHD-related comorbidities, as well as the effects of neurocircuitry on the executive dysfunction in ADHD.
