Abstract Despite advancements in occupational health and safety (OHS) management, high-risk industries in China continue to report a significant number of fatal accidents, underscoring systemic challenges in protecting the well-being of workers while supporting economic development. This study analyzed 22 years of historical data on OHS incidents, labor dynamics, and economic growth in China’s high-risk industries via multiple regression and network analysis methods. The findings reveal hierarchical influence relationships, with coal mine fatalities emerging as critical upstream factors and transportation fatalities and national labor force dynamics emerging as key downstream factors. Notably, the study reveals a negative correlation between GDP and fatal workplace incidents: for every 0.461 trillion CNY increase in GDP, production safety accident deaths decrease by one. Conversely, each safety accident resulted in 1.052 coal mine fatalities and 0.153 cases of occupational disease. These results offer a novel quantitative perspective on the interplay between economic growth and workplace safety. The study’s models provide practical guidance for enhancing the effectiveness of OHS prevention and control efforts, contributing to sustainable economic and public health outcomes.

Human factors are critical to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in construction enterprises. However, comprehensive industry-wide recognition remains challenging, underscoring the need for Human Factors Engineering (HFE) research. This study develops an optimized HFE evaluation model based on fundamental HFE principles. Examining COVID-19's significant impact on construction enterprise OHS, this research employs an empirical investigation of 259 cases, utilizing a model that integrates NetLogo's System Dynamics (SD) and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) to analyze the interactions between human factors and other variables. The findings reveal four key factors influencing human factors: management, material, environmental, and methodological. These factors demonstrate a quadratic parabolic relationship, with peak influence occurring at step 36 of the research period. Twelve of the 20 survey factors exhibit a linear regression relationship with human factors' four sub-factors, with pre-job training (Q9) demonstrating multiple influential interactions. The strongest correlation is between pre-job training (Q9) and living materials (Q14), with a weight coefficient of .325. Psychological counseling (Q8) and living materials (Q14) show a close relationship (weight coefficient .301). Notably, Q9 and empirical prevention materials (Q11) display a negative correlation with a weight coefficient of −.156. This study's practical significance lies in enabling enterprises to identify key HFE control factors and understand critical sub-factors for mitigating COVID-19's adverse impacts.

The occupational health and safety management factors of construction enterprises are critical influencing factors in their training management, and their causal principles are topics that warrant profound exploration. Drawing upon the conventional five factors, this study initially posited and authenticated a causal model among them, subsequently employing system dynamics on the NetLogo platform to dynamically simulate the model, and ultimately scrutinizing the interrelations and dynamic influence degree among the factors. The results show that the direct causes of management factors include human factors (weight coefficient of 0.583) and method factors (weight coefficient of 0.405), and environmental factors directly affect human factors (weight coefficient of 0.994), whereas material factors directly affect method factors (weight coefficient of 0.918). At the same time, it can be seen from the dynamic simulation results that the influence of human factors and method factors on management factors increases sharply in the nascent phase of the simulation cycle (the highest slope is .90), gradually decreases in the intermediary phase (the slope of the inflection point is .11), and is relatively stable in the final phase (the slope is less than 0.11). Three main conclusions have been drawn from this. Firstly, management factors are directly and positively affected by human factors and method factors respectively. Secondly, the interplay between diverse factors evinces a confluence of periodicity and exponential attributes. Thirdly, in each management cycle (set at 381 steps), the main focus is on controlling the causal factors in the early stages of management, with pivotal control points in steps 25 and 100, and the principal management factors comprising the management organization, operating procedures, and protective measures.

To establish a suitable prediction model of construction workers' job satisfaction, this study chooses the widely used models CART (Classification and Regression Tree) and NN (Neural network) in the prediction model to make a comparison and finds out the main influencing factors of construction workers' job satisfaction in occupational health and safety training. Through the investigation and analysis of 280 cases of empirical data, it is found that the CART model based on Kappa value and Accuracy of categorical variables have a better prediction effect, and the main factors affecting job satisfaction are job categories, working days per week and the latest training time. The main innovation of this paper is to add the actual value set of empirical data on the basis of the usual training set, verification set, test set and prediction set, and draw a conclusion by comparing the predicted value with the actual value of kappa.

Abstract Background Planarians reliably regenerate all body parts after injury, including a fully functional head and central nervous system. But until now, the expression dynamics and functional role of miRNAs and other small RNAs during the process of head regeneration are not well understood. Furthermore, little is known about the evolutionary conservation of the relevant small RNAs pathways, rendering it difficult to assess whether insights from planarians will apply to other taxa. Results In this study, we applied high throughput sequencing to identify miRNAs, tRNA fragments and piRNAs that are dynamically expressed during head regeneration in Dugesia japonica. We further show that knockdown of selected small RNAs, including three novel Dugesia-specific miRNAs, during head regeneration induces severe defects including abnormally small-sized eyes, cyclopia and complete absence of eyes. Conclusions Our findings suggest that a complex pool of small RNAs takes part in the process of head regeneration in Dugesia japonica and provide novel insights into global small RNA expression profiles and expression changes in response to head amputation. Our study reveals the evolutionary conserved role of miR-124 and brings further promising candidate small RNAs into play that might unveil new avenues for inducing restorative programs in non-regenerative organisms via small RNA mimics based therapies.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of evolutionarily conserved small non-coding RNAs that regulate gene expression at the translation level in cell growth, proliferation and differentiation. In addition, some types of miRNAs have been proven to be key modulators of both CNS development and plasticity, such as let-7, miR-9 and miR-124. In this research, we found miR-8b acts as an important regulator involved in brain and eyespot regeneration in Dugesia japonica. miR-8b was highly conserved among species and was abundantly expressed in central nervous system. Here, we detected the expression dynamics of miR-8b by qPCR during the head regeneration of D. japonica. Knockdown miR-8b by anti-MIRs method caused severe defects of eyes and CNS. Our study revealed the evolutionary conserved role of miR-8b in the planarian regeneration process, and further provided more research ideas and available information for planarian miRNAs.

Background: Occupational health and safety (OHS) training is an important way to prevent construction safety risks. However, the effectiveness of OHS training in China is questionable. In this study, the CHAID (chi-squared automatic interaction detection) decision tree, chi-square analysis, and correlation analysis were used to explore the main, secondary, weak, unrelated, and expectation factors affecting the effectiveness of training. It is the first to put forward the “five-factor method” of training effectiveness. It is found that training effectiveness is positively correlated with job responsibilities, OHS training, and job satisfaction. It is also significantly related to job certificate, training time, training method, and working time. However, the effectiveness of training has nothing to do with personal age, marital status, educational level, job type, and whether or not they have experienced industrial accidents. And the workers on site expect the enterprise to provide security and opportunities such as physical safety, training and learning, and future career development. The results show that OHS system training should be strengthened in the construction industry, and classified training should be carried out according to post responsibility, training methods, job satisfaction, and working hours.

Based on core description, conventional thin section, cast thin section and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis, combined with general physical analysis, the physical properties of the braided river delta sandstone reservoirs and the range of reservoir quality of the Sha 1 member have been analyzed in the southern Nanpu Sag of the Bohai Bay Basin. The characteristics and controlling factors of the southern provenance of Sha 1 reservoirs are examined to reveal the causes for the formation of deep, high-quality reservoirs more than 4000 m deep. Sha 1 reservoirs in the study area are made up of gravel rock, pebbled inequigranular sandstone, medium sand and gritrock. The lithology is mainly lithic feldspar sandstone, the contents of rigid particles like quartz and metamorphic rock cuttings are higher, the content of matrix is very low and the structure is supported by grains. The average porosity is 12.8%. The average permeability is 154.9×10−3μm2. The reservoir type is low porosity and high permeability. The reservoir space is mainly made up of primary and secondary pores. Parent rock type, sedimentary environment and the abnormal high pressure in the Sha 1 Member are the dominant factors controlling the reservoir properties. It is inferred that high quality sandstone reservoirs with high natural productivity of oil and gas are widely developed in the strata more than 4000 m deep in the Bohai Bay Basin, and so conventional sandstone reservoir exploration is expected to expand to these deeper intervals. In rodent species, the ovary and the end of oviduct are encapsulated by a thin membrane called ovarian bursa. The biological functions of ovarian bursa remain unexplored despite its structural arrangement in facilitating oocytes transport into oviduct. In the present study, we observed a rapid fluid accumulation and reabsorption within the ovarian bursa after ovarian stimulation (PMSG-primed hCG injection), suggesting that the ovarian bursa might play an active role in regulating local fluid homeostasis around the timing of ovulation. We hypothesized that the aquaporin proteins, which are specialized channels for water transport, might be involved in this process. By screening the expression of aquaporin family members (Aqp1-9) in the ovarian tissue and isolated ovarian bursa (0, 1, 2 and 5 h after hCG injection), we found that AQP2 and AQP5 mRNA showed dynamic changes after hCG treatment, showing upregulation at 1-2 h followed by gradually decrease at 5 h, which is closely related with the intra-bursa fluid dynamics. Further immunofluorescence examinations of AQP2 and AQP5 in the ovarian bursa revealed that AQP2 is specifically localized in the outer layer (peritoneal side) while AQP5 localized in the inner layer (ovarian side) of the bursa, such cell type specific and spatial-temporal expressions of AQP2 and 5 support our hypothesis that they might be involved in efficient water transport through ovarian bursa under ovulation related hormonal regulation. The physiological significance of aquaporin-mediated water transport in the context of ovarian bursa still awaits further clarification.

In view of the occupational health and safety (OHS) training on the safety of construction workers, and many complex factors. Through empirical investigation, this study proposes a set of multiple factor comprehensive analysis (CAMF) model to explore the effectiveness of OHS training and its main influencing factors. It has been found that training effectiveness is positively related to whether to receive OHS training or not and also positively related to training methods. It has also been found that the effectiveness of training is positively related to the importance of post responsibility. The results show that the construction industry needs to strengthen the OHS system training of grass-root workers, and the training should be classified and graded according to the workers' educational backgrounds, training methods, job satisfaction, and job responsibilities. In the safety training management of on-site workers, salary is the basic factor, and more attention should be paid to the factors such as workers' physical safety, training and learning, and future career development. The empirical results show that CAMF model has certain practical significance. The research results can provide paths and suggestions for improving the effectiveness of OHS training in China's construction industry, and provide some reference for other developing countries to carry out OHS training. Continuous disposal of endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) into the environment can lead to serious human health problems and can affect plants and aquatic organisms. The determination of EDCs in water has become an increasingly important activity due to our increased knowledge about their toxicities, even at low concentration. The EDCs in water samples from the reclaimed water plant of Tianjin, northern China, were identified by gas chromatography (GC)–mass spectrometry (MS). Important and contrasting EDCs including estrone (E1), 17β-estradiol (E2), 17α-ethynylestradiol (EE2), 4-tert-octylphenol (OP), 4-nonylphenol (NP), bisphenol A (BPA), di- n-butyl phthalate (DnBP), diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP), and di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) were selected as the target compounds. Concentrations of steroid hormones, alkylphenolic compounds and phthalates ranged from below the limit of detection (LOD) to 8.1 ng L−1, from −1, and from 1.00 μg L−1 to 23.8 μg L−1, respectively. The average removal efficiencies for target EDCs varied from 30% to 82%. These results indicate that environmental endocrine disrupting compounds are not completely removed during reclaimed water treatment and may be carried over into the general aquatic environment. Increasing evidence indicates that metabolic disorders in offspring can result from the father's diet, but the mechanism remains unclear. In a paternal mouse model given a high-fat diet (HFD), we showed that a subset of sperm transfer RNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs), mainly from 5' transfer RNA halves and ranging in size from 30 to 34 nucleotides, exhibited changes in expression profiles and RNA modifications. Injection of sperm tsRNA fractions from HFD males into normal zygotes generated metabolic disorders in the F1 offspring and altered gene expression of metabolic pathways in early embryos and islets of F1 offspring, which was unrelated to DNA methylation at CpG-enriched regions. Hence, sperm tsRNAs represent a paternal epigenetic factor that may mediate intergenerational inheritance of diet-induced metabolic disorders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
