Abstract Membranes tailored for selective ion transport represent a promising avenue toward enhancing sustainability across various fields including water treatment, resource recovery, and energy conversion and storage. While nanochannels formed by polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIM) offer a compelling solution with their uniform and durable nanometer-sized pores, their effectiveness is hindered by limited interactions between ions and nanochannel. Herein, we introduce the randomly twisted V-shaped structure of Tröger’s Base unit and quaternary ammonium groups to construct ionized sub-nanochannel with a window size of 5.89–6.54 Å between anion hydration and Stokes diameter, which enhanced the dehydrated monovalent ion transport. Combining the size sieving and electrostatic interaction effects, sub-nanochannel membranes achieved exceptional ion selectivity of 106 for Cl-/CO3 2- and 82 for Cl-/SO4 2-, significantly surpassing the state-of-the-art membranes. This work provides an efficient template for creating functionalized sub-nanometer channels in PIM membranes, and paves the way for the development of precise ion separation applications.

Abstract The drilling pressure relief technology is an effective way to reduce the accumulation of elastic energy in the tunnel envelope, which can reduce the risk of regional ground pressure occurrence. However, there is a lack of theoretical guidance on which drilling parameter has the greatest degree of influence on the effectiveness of pressure relief. The uniaxial compression tests were conducted to study the relationships between drilling parameters (the diameter, depth, and spacing) and the mechanical properties and deformation modulus of specimens. The results show that: (1) The drilling diameter (DDR) and drilling depth (DDH) of single-hole specimens negatively correlate with the peak-failure strength and deformation modulus, while the drilling spacing (DS) of double-hole specimens positively correlates with the peak-failure strength and deformation modulus. It shows that the borehole diameter has a more significant effect on the decompression effect. (2) With the help of the Grey Relational Analysis, the factors affecting the peak-failure strength and deformation modulus of the drilled specimens were ranked in significance. From the largest to the smallest, they are DDR, followed by DDH and DS. (3) The role of the pressure relief mechanism is to transfer the high stress in the shallow part of the roadway to the deep part, reduce the peak strength of destruction and deformation modulus of the peripheral rock in the drilled section, so that the characteristics of the mechanical behavior of the rock are significantly weakened, and the range of the area of the drilled hole decompression is enlarged. During the loading of the borehole, the borehole stress field dominates in the early stage, and cracking starts near the borehole along the direction perpendicular to the direction of maximum principal stress (horizontal direction). In the later stage, the maximum principal stress field dominates and vertical cracks with large widths appear. During crack expansion, the plastic energy dissipation effect is enhanced and the deep impact conduction path is weakened, thus protecting the roadway. This study determined the significance of the pressure relief effect of different drilling parameters, which can guide reasonable modifications of drilling parameters in the field.

Abstract One of the main challenges in excavating roadways is implementing temporary supports that are powered by hydraulics and have high strength. The current temporary support system lacks active support and often causes separation between the top plate and the layer below. It is crucial to control the initial separation of the roadway roof for the stability of the surrounding rock, especially on roadways with loose and soft rock. This research focuses on the A4027 return airway in Sail Six Mine. The issues with the temporary support system in this airway have been identified. The concept and principle of using hydraulically driven, high-strength temporary support technology are proposed. A mechanical analysis model is created to study the stacked roof in the temporary support region, and the critical conditions for delamination of the top plate are determined. The relationship between the delamination difficulty parameter Q, the distance between temporary supports L, and the strength of the temporary supports q is quantified. Numerical simulation using Flac3d is used to model the relationship between the strength of the temporary supports and the deformation and stress of the rock on the roof. The overall strength of the temporary supports for the A4027 return airway is determined to be 10 kN/m2, with a distance of 2 m between the temporary supports. Hydraulically driven, high-strength temporary support devices are developed and tested for their strength. Field trials are conducted as well. The results show that the initial separation of the top plate is improved and that the support effect in the temporary support region is significant. The maximum separation of the top plate during excavation is only 34 mm, and the sinking of the top plate does not exceed 68 mm. This effectively limits the deformation of the surrounding rocks in the very soft coal seam, providing valuable insights for other roadways with similar conditions.

Abstract To study the effect of mining dynamic response characteristics on the footwall working face of the normal fault under the influence of the gob area, theoretical research, indoor experiment, and numerical simulation are adopted to analyze the stress manifestation characteristics, overburden movement, and energy evolution characteristics during the process of mining. The results show that: (1) In the process of mining toward the fault, the working face shows the change characteristics of “stable-activation mutation-final stability”. At 20 m from the fault, the arch structure of the working face was damaged, fissures appeared near the high fault fracture zone, and the displacement of the overburden rock increased significantly; (2) the maximum value was reached at 4–8 m from the coal wall, and the superposition of tectonic stress and mining stress led to the concentration of the stress and energy accumulating on the top plate near the fault, and the data close to the gob area were even larger; (3) If the plastic damage zone of the high-level rock layer on the hanging wall and footwall of the fault appears to have a wide range of penetration, and the area formed between the shear displacement curve of the fault plane and the X-axis appears to have a significant enhancement, it is considered that the fault has been activated; (4) The size of the coal pillar of the fault is determined to be 40 m, and combined with the pressure unloading technique of the variable-diameter drilling hole, the validation is carried out through the micro-vibration monitoring, and the results of which can be used as a reference for the safety of the working face under similar conditions.

Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation are used to study the influence of different parameters of variable diameter borehole pressure relief technology on the surrounding rock and support. A strain-softening model was established to analyze the intrinsic connection between the parameters of variable diameter boreholes and the evolution of surrounding rock stress, deformation law, and support strength. The results show that: (1) With the increase in shallow borehole diameter, it is easy to cause anchor de-anchoring phenomenon. (2) After the deep borehole diameter is more than 250 mm, it transfers the peak of the shallow vertical stress to the deep surrounding rock (about 16 m away from the coal wall). (3) If the position of the variable borehole aperture is set between the anchorage zone and the stress peak of the roadway, the stress transfer effect is better, and the influence and effective binding force on the surrounding rock is smaller. (4) When the spacing is 1.0 m~2.0 m, the vertical stress starts to transfer to the deep surrounding rock, the deformation of the surrounding rock is smaller, and the reduction in the effective binding force of the anchors is smaller. The result can provide a reference for similar production conditions.

Fatty acids are synthesized and stored in seeds during development in Brassica napus. Understanding the molecular mechanism behind fatty acid biosynthesis during seed development is a crucial research objective. In this study, we proved that exogenous application of abscisic acid (ABA) to the siliques can efficiently improve unsaturated fatty acid content in rapeseeds. Then we identified a total of 97 novel microRNAs (miRNAs) and 211 known miRNAs in the seeds of B. napus by high-throughput sequencing. Among them, a total of 23 differentially expressed miRNAs were observed between siliques treated with ABA and the control group. These 23 miRNAs regulated target genes that were involved in lipid metabolism through the integration of gene ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) annotations. Moreover, we validated selected members from these miRNAs and their predicted targets through quantitative RT-PCR. Among these, miR172a, miR395a, and novel13 were significantly down-regulated after ABA treatment, while novel3 was significantly up-regulated. Notably, the predicted target genes of miR172a and miR395a, namely, KAS I and DGAT, play crucial roles in fatty acid synthesis and exhibit up-regulated expression in response to ABA. Our findings suggest that a variety of miRNAs interact with ABA to regulate fatty acid biosynthesis, highlighting the important roles played by miRNAs in the process of fatty acid biosynthesis during seed development.

To solve the problems of brittleness, high cost, and the complicated construction process of traditional filling materials for filling abandoned roadways, various aspects of the physical and mechanical properties of the materials were studied using laboratory tests and were applied in coal mines. The research shows that the self-developed inorganic cementitious filling material has the advantages of being low cost, easy to cut and wash, and having good filling performance. A foaming agent is a direct factor in controlling the volume expansion of inorganic cementitious filling materials; the increase in the volume of slurry foaming with the addition of a foaming agent initially showed a large and then a small trend with a foaming agent dosage of 100 g. The increase in the volume of slurry foaming is the largest at 56.28%. The effect of the B material (calcium stearate+ J85 rapid-setting agent) on the foaming time and the number of foaming times of the slurry was significant. Foam stabilizers in the B material make the slurry particles uniformly distributed inside the slurry, while quick-setting agents control the initial and final setting time by affecting the slurry setting speed. The water/cement ratio directly affects the foaming times of the slurry but has little effect on the foaming time and setting speed. When the water/cement ratio is less than 1:2, the slurry foaming effect is poor, and the foaming volume remains unchanged. The strength of the material is significantly affected by the proportion of B material and the amount of blowing agent, and the compressive strength of materials with different compositions and ratios varies greatly. A whole set of systems of new inorganic gelatinized abandoned roadway filling materials was researched and applied in coal mines, achieving good results.

Abstract Towards intracellular engineering of living organisms, the development of new biocompatible polymerization system applicable for an intrinsically non-natural macromolecules synthesis for modulating living organism function/behavior is a key step. Herein, we find that the tyrosine residues in the cofactor-free proteins can be employed to mediate controlled radical polymerization under 405 nm light. A proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) mechanism between the excited-state TyrOH* residue in proteins and the monomer or the chain transfer agent is confirmed. By using Tyr-containing proteins, a wide range of well-defined polymers are successfully generated. Especially, the developed photopolymerization system shows good biocompatibility, which can achieve in-situ extracellular polymerization from the surface of yeast cells for agglutination/anti-agglutination functional manipulation or intracellular polymerization inside yeast cells, respectively. Besides providing a universal aqueous photopolymerization system, this study should contribute a new way to generate various non-natural polymers in vitro or in vivo to engineer living organism functions and behaviours.

Background Septic shock is a severe life-threatening disease, and the mortality of septic shock in China was approximately 37.3% that lacks prognostic prediction model. This study aimed to develop and validate a prediction model to predict 28-day mortality for Chinese patients with septic shock. Methods This retrospective cohort study enrolled patients from Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Second Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University between December 2020 and September 2021. We collected patients’ clinical data: demographic data and physical condition data on admission, laboratory data on admission and treatment method. Patients were randomly divided into training and testing sets in a ratio of 7:3. Univariate logistic regression was adopted to screen for potential predictors, and stepwise regression was further used to screen for predictors in the training set. Prediction model was constructed based on these predictors. A dynamic nomogram was performed based on the results of prediction model. Using receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve to assess predicting performance of dynamic nomogram, which were compared with Sepsis Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) systems. Results A total of 304 patients with septic shock were included, with a 28-day mortality of 25.66%. Systolic blood pressure, cerebrovascular disease, Na, oxygenation index (PaO2/FiO2), prothrombin time, glucocorticoids, and hemodialysis were identified as predictors for 28-day mortality in septic shock patients, which were combined to construct the predictive model. A dynamic nomogram (https://zhijunxu.shinyapps.io/DynNomapp/) was developed. The dynamic nomogram model showed a good discrimination with area under the ROC curve of 0.829 in the training set and 0.825 in the testing set. Additionally, the study suggested that the dynamic nomogram has a good predictive value than SOFA and APACHE II. Conclusion The dynamic nomogram for predicting 28-day mortality in Chinese patients with septic shock may help physicians to assess patient survival and optimize personalized treatment strategies for septic shock.

Objectives: This experiment investigated the role of the FAD-dependent oxidoreductase domain-containing 2 (FOXRED2) in the development of cutaneous malignant melanoma. Methods: We explored the expression and prognostic effects of FOXRED2 in cutaneous malignant melanoma by performing bioinformatics analyses and immunohistochemical staining experiments and verified the biological influence of FOXRED2 on human melanoma cells using in vitro experiments. Results: FOXRED2 expression was significantly higher in cutaneous malignant melanoma compared to normal skin and nevus tissues and closely associated with prognosis. The expression levels of FOXRED2 mRNA and protein were significantly upregulated in human melanoma cell lines, and knocking down FOXRED2 expression inhibits proliferation, invasion, and migration, promotes apoptosis, and alters tumor cell biology in A2058 and A375 cells. Conclusion: FOXRED2 may play a crucial role in the development and progression of cutaneous malignant melanoma.

[Formula: see text][Formula: see text]Ti3[Formula: see text](BLT) thin films are promising materials used in non-volatile memories. In this work, BLT films were deposited on Pt(111)/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates by rf-magnetron sputtering method followed by annealing treatments. The microstructures of BLT thin films were investigated via X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). With the increase in annealing temperature, the grain size increased significantly and the preferred crystalline orientation changed. A well-saturated hysteresis loop with a superior remnant polarization of 15.4 [Formula: see text]C/cm2 was obtained for BLT thin films annealed at 700∘C. The results show that the dielectric constant decreased with the increase in grain sizes.

Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an economically significant crop with aerial cleistogamous flowers and subterranean geocarpic fruit (pods). The formation of peanut pod requires movement of the embryo from air to ground and then development in the soil, which is a complex biological process involving transport and accumulation of sugars. Sugar transport proteins (STP) mediate the transport of monosaccharides in various physiological processes, including fertilization, ovary formation, and seed development. In this study, a total of 36 AhSTP genes (AhSTP1–36) containing the conserved sugar_tr motif were identified in the A. hypogaea genome. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that AhSTP genes were classified into four clades, and the arrangement of motifs in AhSTP proteins was similar within clades. Synteny analysis revealed that segmental duplication events have played an important role in the expansion of STP genes in peanut, and chromosome rearrangements might have facilitated the exchange of STP genes between the A and B sub-genomes. Transcriptome analyses revealed that the expression patterns of AhSTP genes varied among tissues. Hormone and abiotic stress treatments could up-regulate or down-regulate the expression of AhSTP genes, and low temperature had a major effect on the expression of most AhSTP genes. Four AhSTP genes (AhSTP3, AhSTP9, AhSTP19, and AhSTP28) were specifically expressed in the pod, indicating that these genes might be involved in pod formation and development in peanut. The unique expression of these four genes during pod construction and development was confirmed in two different type cultivars using quantitative real-time PCR analysis. Our findings provide new insights into the STP gene family in peanut and will aid future functional studies of AhSTP genes.

Flexible capacitive pressure sensors as one of the crucial sensing components have aroused widespread concern because of their vital role in development of wearable artificial devices, healthcare biomonitoring and human-machine interface. However, there has been a considerable challenge to successfully fabricate them with a tradeoff between high sensitivity and wide sensing range by low-cost and convenient manufacturing methods. Herein, the orientated thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer rubber nanofiber membranes (TPU-O NMs) were prepared via conjugated electrospinning to build a dielectric layer for the flexible capacitive wide-range pressure sensors with high sensitivity. In addition, polyaniline (PANI) was in situ polymerized on the TPU-O NMs as flexible electrodes to maintain the conductive pathway, flexibility, and breathability of the sensors. The TPU@PANI NMs form a bamboo-raft-like microstructure between the aligned fibers under pressure, resulting in a significant increase in sensitivity and working range. Furthermore, the conductive TPU@PANI NMs can be stretched to 1600% without fracture. The assembled sensor has a high sensitivity of 31.73 kPa−1 and a fast response/recovery time of 96 ms. Meantime, it also exhibits a minimum detection limit of 1 Pa, an excellent stability of 10,000 cycles, and a good linearity in a broad working age (1 Pa∼122.5 kPa). Finally, the capacitive pressure sensor was successfully applied for full-range detection of human motions, such as finger bending, joint bending, and even boxing movements. Hence this highly sensitive and wide-range pressure sensor can be a promising candidate for healthcare monitoring, motion recognition, and wearable circuitry in artificial intelligence.

Insufficient stability of the top plate at the corner of an easily combustible coal seam comprehensive mining face may lead to a natural fire within the goaf. While corner sealing is crucial for minimizing air leakage, current sealing methods struggle to effectively prevent such leakage. Additionally, the distribution characteristics of the oxidation zone in the goaf after sealing are unclear, making it difficult to control the extent of the oxidation zone. To address these issues, a new type of inorganic paste filling material was developed, taking into account the conditions of the Cuncaota II Mine. Various corner-filling schemes were developed, and numerical simulations were used to study the effects of different corner-filling strategies and varying filling interval distances on the width of the oxidation zone in the goaf. Based on these findings, a working face corner-filling technology was proposed and applied to the 22,122 working face. The research results indicate that the mountain sand-based paste filling material, using mountain sand as the filling aggregate and cement and fly ash as the binding materials, not only meets the pumping requirements but also exhibits excellent self-supporting characteristics, thereby addressing the corner filling needs of the working face. The width variation in the oxidation zone in the goaf is influenced by the position and interval distance of the corner filling, showing a pattern of initially decreasing and then increasing with the rise in the filling interval distance, reaching a minimum at a filling interval of 50 m. Field observation data demonstrate that, following the application of the aforementioned filling technology, the width of the oxidation zone in the goaf of the 22,122 working face is reduced by 37.5%, and air leakage decreases by 66.7% compared to the unfilled condition. This technology effectively narrows the range of the oxidation zone in the goaf, ensuring the safety of working face production.

Abstract For the shallow and circular silo (SCS), when the aspect ratio is between 1.0 and 1.5, the lateral pressure especially dynamic pressure may cause destruction if the size of the silo is large. This paper proposed a modified calculation method of lateral pressure on the silo wall of SCS, considering the elasticities of silo wall and storage materials. The availability of shallow silo and deep silo methods, and the modified method were compared with the experiment and simulation. The results show that the Rankine’s formula is too conservative for the static lateral pressure, and the results of the modified method and Janssen formula are close to that of the experimental and simulation. For the dynamic lateral pressure calculation, Rankine theory is unsafe for the discharging load. The relative error of the dynamic lateral pressure based on Janssen theory is between 20 and 30%, which is too large. The dynamic lateral pressure calculated by the modified method is in good agreement with that of the experimental and simulation, and the relative error is less than 10%. Therefore, the modified method of lateral pressure formula is reasonable, which can provide guidance for the safety design of silo structure.

The production and breeding of peanuts was restricted by the frequently extreme climatic conditions in Guangdong province, China. To understand the influence of drought and pluvial climates on peanut traits and yield, a phenotypic investigation of seventy peanut cultivars was conducted from 2018 to 2022; comprehensive field meteorological data collection, and typical drought (2021) and pluvial (2022) climates were recorded. The results revealed that the cultivars achieved the highest single plant pod weight (SPPW) and single plant seed weight (SPSW) of 61.03 g and 45.84 g, respectively, in drought conditions, followed by the control, and finally the pluvial. The SPPW, SPSW and eight agronomy traits exhibited significant differences across the different climatic conditions. Correlation analysis revealed the yield traits and key yield-related traits were positively or negatively correlated with soil water content (SWC), total global radiation (TGR), total precipitation (TP) and total net radiation (TNR). The intermediate and Spanish type cultivars were more stable and productive than the other botanical types of cultivars, commercial varieties exhibited better performance than landraces, and seven cultivars were identified with good production potential, under drought and pluvial conditions. Our study showed that pluvial climate was detrimental to peanut yield, and the SPPW and SPSW were significantly influenced by climates with genotype differences.

How to deal with hard rock cheaply and safely is a pressing issue in today’s coal mining. Weakening fractures of hard rock have always been a significant concern in China’s coal mine engineering. In this study, mechanical derivation, laboratory experiments, and numerical simulation research methodologies are used to evaluate the fracturing process of the static crushing agent (SCA). From a mechanical standpoint, the mechanism of fracturing hard rock by a crushing agent is investigated. It is assumed that single-hole fracturing is separated into three stages: the microfracture stage, the fissure development stage, and the breaking stage. The swelling and fracturing properties of SCA were quantitatively analyzed. It was found that the swelling pressure of SCA increased with the increase in pore diameter, and the range of the swelling pressure was 43.5 MPa to 75.1 MPa. SCA exhibited a delayed fracture initiation, but the rate of breakage was relatively high. The cracking effect of a single-hole specimen under no peripheral pressure was simulated using PFC2D, and the results were consistent with experimental observations. The internal dynamic effect, crack extension, distribution characteristics, and the development law of double-hole expansion pressure were analyzed for double-hole specimens with different hole diameters, hole spacings, and circumferential pressures. It was observed that the cracking effect was positively correlated with the pore diameter, while the pore spacing and surrounding pressure were negatively correlated. The size of the expansion pressure was negatively correlated with the pore diameter, while the pore spacing and surrounding pressure were positively correlated.

In coal mine roadway support, the arrangement of roadways in areas with high-stress concentrations is a challenging issue. It is crucial to solve this problem in order to ensure the safety and productivity of the mine. In this study, we selected a typical roadway in Zhong Xing Coal Mine, Fen Xi, Shanxi Province, as our research focus. We analyzed the deformation and failure characteristics of the surrounding rock under field mining pressure during roadway excavation through theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and on-site measurements. Using the Flac3D numerical simulation technique, we studied the stress distribution characteristics of the roadway in the stress concentration area. To address the significant deformation of the roadway, we proposed a high-pretensioned top beam high-strength dual-anchor truss support system (HSCTS) and carefully studied its control mechanism and structural characteristics. After simulating and comparing its support effectiveness with the original support scheme and conducting on-site industrial tests, we determined the HSCTS support system as the alternative support system for roadway 1409. The test results showed that the convergence of the rib plates and the roof was no more than 79 mm and 191 mm, respectively. The significant influence of the roadway on the control of the surrounding rock also indicated effective control of the surrounding rock’s deformation along the 1409 goaf. The support control technology system can provide specific reference values for roadways under similar geological production conditions.

The underlying mechanism of iron-based superconductivity, the role of electron correlations, and the extent to which the behavior resembles those of the cuprates has been debated since their discovery. Here, using angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy, the authors report reconstruction of the Fermi surface for FeTe1−x Se x driven by orbital-dependent correlation effects in the absence of symmetry breaking and find evidence for an orbital-selective Mott transition.

The feasibility of PVA fiber rubber concrete modified by modifier in the structure was investigated using the portal frame as the research object. The basic mechanical properties of modified PVA rubber concrete materials were tested mechanically first, and then ABAQUS was used to establish the ordinary concrete portal frame model, and after confirming the model’s rationality, the rubber concrete, PVA rubber concrete, and modified PVA rubber concrete models were established on this basis, and the displacement and strain comparison analysis with ordinary concrete was carried out. The simulation results show that using PVA rubber concrete material in the concrete frame structure can improve the large deformation of rubber concrete, and using PVA rubber concrete treated with a modifier can improve structural strength and deformation even more.

Selections of drought-tolerant cultivars and drought-stress diagnosis are important for sugarcane production under seasonal drought, which becomes a crucial factor causing sugarcane yield reduction. The main objective of this study was to investigate the differential drought-response strategies of drought-resistant (‘ROC22’) and -susceptible (‘ROC16’) sugarcane cultivars via photosynthetic quantum efficiency (Φ) simulation and analyze photosystem energy distribution. Five experiments were conducted to measure chlorophyll fluorescence parameters under different photothermal and natural drought conditions. The response model of Φ to photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), temperature (T), and the relative water content of the substrate (rSWC) was established for both cultivars. The results showed that the decreasing rate of Φ was higher at lower temperatures than at higher temperatures, with increasing PAR under well-watered conditions. The drought-stress indexes (εD) of both cultivars increased after rSWC decreased to the critical values of 40% and 29% for ‘ROC22’ and ‘ROC16’, respectively, indicating that the photosystem of ‘ROC22’ reacted more quickly than that of ‘ROC16’ to water deficit. An earlier response and higher capability of nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ) accompanied the slower and slighter increments of the yield for other energy losses (ΦNO) for ‘ROC22’ (at day5, with a rSWC of 40%) compared with ‘ROC16’ (at day3, with a rSWC of 56%), indicating that a rapid decrease in water consumption and an increase in energy dissipation involved in delaying the photosystem injury could contribute to drought tolerance for sugarcane. In addition, the rSWC of ‘ROC16’ was lower than that of ‘ROC22’ throughout the drought treatment, suggesting that high water consumption might be adverse to drought tolerance of sugarcane. This model could be applied for drought-tolerance assessment or drought-stress diagnosis for sugarcane cultivars.

Sugarcane is the major sugar-producing crop worldwide, and hybrid F1 populations are the primary populations used in breeding. Challenged by the sugarcane genome’s complexity and the sucrose yield’s quantitative nature, phenotypic selection is still the most commonly used approach for high-sucrose yield sugarcane breeding. In this study, a hybrid F1 population containing 135 hybrids was constructed and evaluated for 11 traits (sucrose yield (SY) and its related traits) in a randomized complete-block design during two consecutive growing seasons. The results revealed that all the traits exhibited distinct variation, with the coefficient of variation (CV) ranging from 0.09 to 0.35, the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H′) ranging between 2.64 and 2.98, and the broad-sense heritability ranging from 0.75 to 0.84. Correlation analysis revealed complex correlations between the traits, with 30 trait pairs being significantly correlated. Eight traits, including stalk number (SN), stalk diameter (SD), internode length (IL), stalk height (SH), stalk weight (SW), Brix (B), sucrose content (SC), and yield (Y), were significantly positively correlated with sucrose yield (SY). Cluster analysis based on the 11 traits divided the 135 F1 hybrids into three groups, with 55 hybrids in Group I, 69 hybrids in Group II, and 11 hybrids in Group III. The principal component analysis indicated that the values of the first four major components’ vectors were greater than 1 and the cumulative contribution rate reached 80.93%. Based on the main component values of all samples, 24 F1 genotypes had greater values than the high-yielding parent ‘ROC22’ and were selected for the next breeding stage. A rapid sucrose yield estimation equation was established using four easily measured sucrose yield-related traits through multivariable linear stepwise regression. The model was subsequently confirmed using 26 sugarcane cultivars and 24 F1 hybrids. This study concludes that the sugarcane F1 population holds great genetic diversity in sucrose yield-related traits. The sucrose yield estimation model, ySY=2.01xSN+8.32xSD+0.79xB+3.44xSH−47.64, can aid to breed sugarcane varieties with high sucrose yield.

The development of techniques capable of orchestrating the assembly of living cells into multicellular ensembles with synergistic and function is challenge. Here, the authors construct algal or algal/bacterial cells-based core shell-like structure based on aqueous two-phase system for synergic photosynthetic H2 production.

Abstract The leaf angle (LA), plant height (PH), and ear height (EH) are key plant architectural traits influencing maize (Zea mays L.) yield. However, their genetic determinants have not yet been well‐characterized. Here, we developed a maize advanced backcross‐nested association mapping population in Henan Agricultural University (HNAU‐NAM1) comprised of 1,625 BC1F4/BC2F4 lines. These were obtained by crossing a diverse set of 12 representative inbred lines with the common GEMS41 line, which were then genotyped using the MaizeSNP9.4K array. Genetic diversity and phenotypic distribution analyses showed considerable levels of genetic variation. We obtained 18–88 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with LA, PH, and EH by using three complementary mapping methods, named as separate linkage mapping, joint linkage mapping, and genome‐wide association studies. Our analyses enabled the identification of ten QTL hot‐spot regions associated with the three traits, which were distributed on nine different chromosomes. We further selected 13 major QTLs that were simultaneously detected by three methods and deduced the candidate genes, of which eight were not reported before. The newly constructed HNAU‐NAM1 population in this study will further broaden our insights into understanding of genetic regulation of plant architecture, thus will help to improve maize yield and provide an invaluable resource for maize functional genomics and breeding research.

Abstract In this paper, Sm-doped 0.96(K0.48Na0.52)(Nb0.95Sb0.05)–0.04Bi0.5(Na0.82K0.18)0.5ZrO3 (abbreviated as KNSN–0.04BNKZ) lead-free piezoelectric ceramics were prepared by conventional solid-state sintering method and the effects of Sm2O3 on the phase structure, microstructure, electrical and luminescent properties of KNSN–0.04BNKZ potteries were studied. Results revealed that a single solid solution phase with pseudo-cubic perovskite structure was formed between KNSN–0.04BNKZ and Sm2O3. Existence of weak dielectric/ferroelectric properties with a diffuse dielectric anomaly and slim P–E hysteresis loops of the Sm-doped KNSN–0.04BNKZ demonstrated the ferroelectric relaxor behavior of the KNNS–0.04BNKZ–xSm ceramics. Accordingly, the temperature stability and fatigue behavior of the modified ceramics were significantly improved. It was found that the KNSN–0.04BNKZ ceramics with 0.002 mol Sm addition exhibited nearly temperature independent properties and fatigue-free behavior. Moreover, Sm-modified KNSN–0.04BNKZ exhibits a bright photoluminescence with a strong orange emission under visible light irradiation. As a material with both electrical and luminescent properties, it has good application prospect in future optoelectronic components by integrating its luminescent and electrical properties.

KH-560 coupling agent can significantly improve the cement mortar and the rubber connection interface compatibility problem of poor weak associativity. This is also the problem that rubber concrete cannot be widely used in practical engineering. Therefore, in this study, the improvement of the performance of PVA rubber concrete by the interface modified by KH-560 coupling agent was studied from the aspects of macromechanics, mesostructure, and numerical simulation. The macromechanical test shows that KH-560 coupling agent improves the compressive, flexural, and shear strength of PVA rubber concrete, and the failure mode of the modified PVA rubber concrete also changes from plastic failure to brittle failure. Through FTIR test and SEM observation, it was found that when the rubber concreted is stressed, the PVA fiber and the cement base jointly bear the external force, absorb energy, and play the role of reinforcement. The finite element (ABAQUS) simulation analysis found that the simulated data were similar to the actual test results, and the reliability of the test results was verified by data fitting. The final experimental results of this research have practical guiding significance for the researchers of concrete composite materials to research compression and bending and shearing of test blocks with different dosages. It is used to provide a reliable theoretical basis in the actual engineering.

Rubber concrete has high environmental and economic benefits. However, the difference in the physical and chemical properties of the interface causes a weak interface between rubber and concrete, which limits the use of rubber concrete to a certain extent. Based on the macroexperiment of epoxy resin (EP) modified rubber concrete, from the nanoscale level, three interface models of Rh (natural rubber)/C-S-H, EP/C-S-H, and Rh/EP/C-S-H were constructed by molecular dynamics simulation to explore the interaction between epoxy resin and rubber cement-based interface and reveal its microreinforcement mechanism. The results of interaction energy, radial distribution function, and mean square displacement show that the addition of EP not only improves the interface interaction energy between Rh and C-S-H but also provides a large number of hydrogen bond donors and receptors, promotes the diffusion of Ca, and increases the adhesion between Rh and cement matrix. The results of the analysis of mechanical properties show that the elastic modulus of the rubber concrete interface model is improved and the interface properties are improved after adding EP.

Necking in different positions of a pile body has a significant influence on the bearing performance of a single pile. The transparent soil model experiment was adopted to investigate the impacts of necking positions on the vertical bearing capacity of a single pile and the soil deformation around the pile, and subsequently, the causes of the variation of bearing capacity were analyzed. The results show that the existence of necking does not change the bearing behavior of single pile as pile friction resistance. The bearing capacity of piles decreased by 8.21% and increased by 7.30% when the necking is located in the shallow and middle pile body, respectively, while it did not change significantly when the defects were in the deep part of the pile. The necking position has a significant effect on the deformation and deformation range of soil. The soils at the top, side, and near the end of a pile were mainly influenced by shallow necking, middle necking, and deep necking, respectively. The soils at the location of necking had apparent settlement phenomenon as the piles subsided. The soils at shallow necking’s locations were relatively loose, which reduced the side friction force of piles and finally resulted in a reduction of bearing capacity of a single pile. With the increase of the load, the soil around piles gradually developed penetration phenomenon (large deformation), while the soil at the end of pile moved up against pile settlement, which made the necking soil in the middle denser. The loss of side friction resistance was less than the resistance from the necking, which gave birth to an increase in the bearing capacity of a single pile. It was finally found that the side friction resistance and the resistance caused by necking were the main factors governing the bearing capacity of necking single piles.

Pillar rheological failure is one of the important reasons to induce earthquake, surface collapse, and water inrush disaster in underground mining engineering. Pillar is generally present under an inclined state and is significantly influenced by combining compression and shear loading. However, many scholars regard the long-term strength of coal or rock mass under pure uniaxial compression loading as the main evolution index of pillar strength, which is not consistent with engineering practice. In this paper, a new inclined uniaxial compression strength (IUCS) test system was developed and then used to carry out the IUCS test and creep test of coal specimens combined with an acoustic emission (AE) technology at various inclination angles (0°, 5°, 10°, 15°, and 20°). The variation of time-dependent deformation, peak strength, long-term strength (LTS), creep fracture model, and AE behavior of the coal with the inclination angels were discussed in detail. The results indicated that the peak strength and LTS of the coal nonlinearly decreased with the inclination angle increasing. The proportion of the peak strength to the LTS had remained constant between 58.5% and 62.9%, which can be considered as the inherent properties of coal rock. The creep failure model of the coal was transformed from tension-splitting failure at the inclination angle of 0° and 5° to tension-shear failure at the inclination angle of 10°-20°, which revealed that the inclination angles were favorable to the initiation and propagation of shear cracks. No matter any inclination angles, AE events can be divided into quiet period, low amplitude rising period, and high amplitude rising period with the periodic mutation of multistage loading points. Moreover, the cumulative AE energy gradually decreases with the increase of the inclination angles, which indicated that the shear stress caused by the specimen inclination can make crack initiation and propagation with less energy absorption. The research results will assist in the long-term strength design and time-dependent stability assessment of the coal pillar.

Evaluations of the risk of fault-induced water inrush hazard is an important issue for mining engineering applications. According to the characteristics of the seam floor during mining advancing, a mechanical model of fault activation is built to obtain the equations of normal stress and shear stress on the surface of fault, as well as the mechanics criterion of fault activation. Furthermore, using FLAC3D numerical software, the stress variation on the surface of fault under two different mining advancing directions are numerically simulated, and the distribution characteristics of the plastic failure zone of the roof and floor near the fault are obtained. The results show that: (1) When mining advances from the hanging wall, the normal stress increases more greatly than that from the foot wall, the shear stress distribution changes drastically with a large peak, and it is more likely to cause fault activation. (2) When mining advances from the hanging wall and approaches the fault, the normal stress and shear stress within the fault first increases, and then decreases suddenly. When mining advances from the foot wall, the normal stress and shear stress increases constantly, and the fault zone stays in the compaction state where the hanging wall and foot wall are squeezed together, which is unfavorable for water inrush hazard. (3) When mining advances from the hanging wall, the deep-seated fault under the floor is damaged first, and the plastic failure zone of the floor increases obviously. When mining advances from the foot wall, the shallow fault under the floor is damaged first, and the plastic failure zone of roof increases obviously. (4) For a water-conducting fault, the waterproof coal pillar size of the mining advancing from the hanging wall should be larger than that from the foot wall. (5) The in-situ monitoring results are in agreement with the simulation results, which proves the effectiveness of the simulation.

Setup effects, one of a large number of uncertainties in geotechnical engineering, can strongly enhance the bearing capacity (ultimate resistance) of driven piles after initial installation, especially for ultimate shaft resistance. Based on load and resistance factor design (LRFD) principle and the reliability theory, this paper incorporates the setup effects to propose a methodology for separately calculating the resistance factors for ultimate base and shaft resistance for reliability-based design (RBD) of driven piles. The proposed approach can clearly explain the different sources of uncertainties of the ultimate resistance, including those from ultimate base and shaft resistances. Meanwhile, the discussions on the uncertainties of resistance and load and the probability characteristics of setup effects are presented, and the effects of four relevant parameters (setup effect factor, ratio of dead to live loads ρ = LD/LL, target reliability index, and ratio of ultimate base resistance to load ψ = Rult,b/(LD + LL)) on resistance factors are analyzed. Parametric study indicates that, setup effects and target reliability index significantly influence on the optimal ultimate base and shaft resistance factors for RBD of driven piles, and ρ = LD/LL has the limited effect on the optimal ultimate base and shaft resistance factors. Varying ψ = Rult,b/(LD + LL) obviously causes the change of the optimal ultimate base resistance factor although it slightly influences the optimal ultimate shaft resistance factor. Therefore, the appropriate choice of target reliability index, and the accurate evaluations of setup effects and ψ = Rult,b/(LD + LL) have great roles on resistance factor calculations for LRFD for driven piles. This paper will employ the transparent soil experiment technology to explore the influences of shallow necking on the vertical bearing capacity of single pile with cap. Model experiment is carried out on one intact pile and nine shallow necking piles. The load-settlement curves of all piles are obtained, which are used to study bearing characteristics of piles. The displacement fields of soil around piles are employed to investigate the reasons for the loss of vertical bearing capacity of piles with shallow necking. The vertical bearing capacity is greatly reduced which is caused by shallow necking. When the axial dimension of necking is the same, the larger the radial size is, the greater the loss of vertical bearing capacity is. When the radial dimension of necking is the same, the greater the axial size is, the greater the loss of vertical bearing capacity is. The soil near the pile shaft and under the pile cap produces a large area of vertical downward deformation, which causes the relative displacement between the pile shaft and the soil to greatly reduce. Therefore, it is easy that the necking piles with caps develop negative friction, which causes the vertical bearing capacity of piles to reduce. When the radial dimension of the shallow necking is 80% of pile diameter, the pile is easy to be damaged.

Layered transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) host a plethora of interesting physical phenomena ranging from charge order to superconductivity. By introducing magnetic ions into 2H-TA_{2} (T=Nb, Ta; A=S, Se), the material forms a family of magnetic intercalated TMDCs M_{x}TA_{2} (M=3d transition metal). Recently, Fe_{1/3+δ}NbS_{2} has been found to possess intriguing resistance switching and magnetic memory effects coupled to the Néel temperature of T_{N}∼45 K [Maniv et al., Nat. Phys. 17, 525 (2021)NPAHAX1745-247310.1038/s41567-020-01123-w; Sci. Adv. 7, eabd8452 (2021)SACDAF2375-254810.1126/sciadv.abd8452]. We present comprehensive single crystal neutron diffraction measurements on underintercalated (δ∼-0.01), stoichiometric, and overintercalated (δ∼0.01) samples. Magnetic defects are usually considered to suppress magnetic correlations and, concomitantly, transition temperatures. Instead, we observe highly tunable magnetic long-ranged states as the Fe concentration is varied from underintercalated to overintercalated, that is, from Fe vacancies to Fe interstitials. The under- and overintercalated samples reveal distinct antiferromagnetic stripe and zigzag orders, associated with wave vectors k_{1}=(0.5,0,0) and k_{2}=(0.25,0.5,0), respectively. The stoichiometric sample shows two successive magnetic phase transitions for these two wave vectors with an unusual rise-and-fall feature in the intensities connected to k_{1}. We ascribe this sensitive tunability to the competing next-nearest neighbor exchange interactions and the oscillatory nature of the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida mechanism. We discuss experimental observations that relate to the observed intriguing switching resistance behaviors. Our discovery of a magnetic defect tuning of the magnetic structure in bulk crystals Fe_{1/3+δ}NbS_{2} provides a possible new avenue to implement controllable antiferromagnetic spintronic devices.

The physical properties and mechanical characteristics of storage materials are significantly different from those of ordinary solids and liquids. The distribution of dynamic wall pressure during silo discharge is quite complicated. Considering the nonlinear relationship between the factors which affect the dynamic lateral pressure of silos, a prediction method of dynamic wall pressure for silos based on support vector machine (SVM) is proposed here, and furthermore, the modified grid search method (GSM) is incorporated in obtaining the optimal support vector machine parameters to improve the accuracy of the prediction. Comparing the results of the proposed prediction model with the results of experiment methods and simulation methods, it can be found that the SVM prediction model shows high accuracy and high generalization ability, and the prediction results of the model fit well with the results of experiment and simulation methods. The proposed method can provide reference for the prediction of the dynamic wall pressure of silos.

The quality of in situ data is key to calculating resistance factor of bored piles. However, it is difficult to summarize accuracy data due to various uncertainties in engineering. This paper employs the Bayesian method and mathematical statistics theory to put forward an estimation method for updating in situ data. A testing database (33 tests in noncohesive soils and 53 tests in cohesive soils) of bored piles is summarized. The model factor of bored piles is quantified as the ratio of the measured capacity to the calculated capacity. The proposed method is used to classify summarized data into three categories, which are “good data,” “general data,” and “bad data.” The “bad data” are discarded because of bad contribution to calculation, and Bayesian theory is incorporated into updating the model factor statistics. Three methods are used to calculate the reliability index and resistance factor of bored piles, and the results show that the reliability index and resistance factor are sensitive to the quality of data. Finally, the available values of resistance factors are proposed based on resistance factor design for bridge design specification, which can offer references to revision relevant specifications. The proposed method can be used to update other geotechnical data.

Oscillations of the order parameter amplitude in magnetically ordered materials provide condensed matter analogues of the Higgs boson but in most cases they are unstable. Dally et al. show that the quasi-one-dimensional magnet α-Na0.9MnO2 supports stable amplitude excitations.

Abstract This paper proposes an experimental approach for monitoring and inspection of the formation accuracy in ultra-precision grinding (UPG) with respect to the chatter vibration. Two factors related to the grinding progress, the grinding speed of grinding wheel and spindle, and the oil pressure of the hydrostatic bearing are taken into account to determining the accuracy. In the meantime, a mathematical model of the radius deviation caused by the micro vibration is also established and applied in the experiments. The results show that the accuracy is sensitive to the vibration and the forming accuracy is much improved with proper processing parameters. It is found that the accuracy of aspheric surface can be less than 4 μm when the grinding speed is 1400 r/min and the wheel speed is 100 r/min with the oil pressure being 1.1 MPa.

We report the first case of pulmonary scedosporiosis detected by next-generation sequencing (NGS) from bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in a 67-year-old male with bronchiectasis and hematopoietic failure. Scedosporium apiospermum is a ubiquitous organism present in the environment with intrinsic resistance to many antifungal agents. The patient developed respiratory failure, pulmonary consolidation, and septic shock shortly thereafter, and responded poorly to antifungal therapy. This case highlights the combined application of NGS and traditional fungal culture in the clinical diagnosis of pulmonary invasive fungal disease. This paper first proposes a new and enhanced second order cone programming relaxation using the simultaneous matrix diagonalization technique for the linearly constrained quadratic fractional programming problem. The problem has wide applications in statics, economics and signal processing. Thus, fast and effective algorithm is required. The enhanced second order cone programming relaxation improves the relaxation effect and computational efficiency compared to the classical second order cone programming relaxation. Moreover, although the bound quality of the enhanced second order cone programming relaxation is worse than that of the copositive relaxation, the computational efficiency is significantly enhanced. Then we present a global algorithm based on the branch and bound framework. Extensive numerical experiments show that the enhanced second order cone programming relaxation-based branch and bound algorithm globally solves the problem in less computing time than the copositive relaxation approach.

The total ultimate resistance (or bearing capacity) of driven piles considering setup effects is composed of initial ultimate resistance and setup resistance, and the setup effects of driven piles are mainly reflected by the setup resistance. In literature, a logarithmic empirical formula is generally used to quantify the setup effects of driven piles. This paper proposes an increase factor (Msetup) to modify the resistance factor and factor of safety calculation formula in accordance with the load and resistance factor design (LFRD) principle; here, the increase factor is defined as the ratio of the setup resistance (Rsetup) to the initial ultimate resistance (R0) of driven piles. Meanwhile, the correlation between R0 and Rsetup is fully considered in the resistance factor and factor of safety calculation. Finally, the influence of four key parameters (ratio of dead load to live load ρ = QD/QL, target reliability index βT, Msetup, correlation coefficient between R0 and Rsetup, ρR0,Rsetup) on the resistance factor and factor of safety are analyzed. Parametric research shows that ρ has basically no effect on the resistance factor, which can be taken as a constant in further research, and ρ has a significant influence on the factor of safety. The value of Msetup has almost no effect on the resistance factor and factor of safety. However, βT and ρR0,Rsetup have a significant influence on the resistance factor and factor of safety, so the value selection of βT and ρR0,Rsetup are crucial for reliability-based design of driven piles. Through this study, it is concluded that considering setup effects in reliability-based design of driven piles will greatly improve the prediction for design capacity.

The buoyancy of underwater can cause the underground granary to overall float, or even overturn, and the interaction between the soil and underground granary is the key to its stability. This paper introduces a non-contact experiment system utilizing the digital image correlation (DIC) technology and particle image velocity (PIV) technology, and its measurement accuracy is analyzed. Then, this system is employed to study the granary displacement and the soil deformation around the granary subjected to the buoyancy of water. Results show that with the increase of the degree of compaction of the soil around the granary, the floating water level increases by 10.77% and the vertical displacement decreases by 17%. When the soils around the granary are loose sands, the soil deformation range shows an obvious inverted triangle. When the soils are medium dense sands, the soil deformation zone concentrates at the junction of the conical granary bottom and granary wall. When the soils are dense sands, the disturbed range of the soil obviously reduces, and the soil deformation concentrates on both sides of the granary wall and is distributed symmetrically. Finally, taking the medium dense sands around the granary as an example, the reasons for the unstable failure of the granary subjected to buoyancy are discussed, assisted by the soil pressure theory of retaining wall. With the granary increasingly inclining, the soil deviating from the inclined direction of the granary loses its support, which drives the soils to reach the active limit state. The soil in the inclined direction of the granary is squeezed, resulting in passive soil pressure on the granary wall. The soil deformation increases continuously to a passive limit equilibrium state, and the soil continuously develops a sliding surface, resulting in the unstable failure of the granary. This research is expected to provide the technical guidance for the design and popularization of underground granaries.

To date, the fabrication of advanced anode materials that can accommodate both Na+ and K+ storage is still very challenging. Herein, we developed a facile solvothermal and subsequent annealing process to synthesize SnS2/RGO composite, in which SnS2 nanosheets are bonded on RGO, and investigated their potential as anodes for Na+ and K+ storage. When used as an anode in SIBs, the as-prepared SnS2/RGO displays preeminent performance (581 mAh g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 after 80 cycles), which is a significant improvement compared with pure SnS2. More encouragingly, SnS2/RGO also exhibits good cycling stability (130 mAh g−1 at 0.3 A g−1 after 300 cycles) and excellent rate capability (520.8 mAh g−1 at 0.05 A g−1 and 281.4 mAh g−1 at 0.5 A g−1) when used as anode for PIBs. The well-engineered structure not only guarantees the fast electrode reaction kinetics, but also ensures superior pseudocapacitance contribution during repeated cycles, which has been proved by kinetic analysis.

Chromosome identification and karyotype using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) provides a technical platform for genome and cytogenetic studies. Brassica juncea (brown mustard, 2n = 4× = 36; genome AABB) is an allopolyploid species that originated from a spontaneous hybridization of Brassica rapa and Brassica nigra and contains many valuable traits. In this study, a multicolor FISH procedure allowing the identification of all 18 chromosomal pairs was developed by two-step hybridizations with probes on the same metaphase chromosomes. The distribution patterns and chromosomal localizations of six repeat sequences (satellite repeat pBrSTR, 5S rDNA, 45S rDNA, B genome-specific repeat pBNBH35, and centromeric satellite repeats CentBr1 and CentBr2) on B. juncea chromosomes were characterized. Comparative karyotype analyses showed that the genome is relatively stable in comparison with its diploid progenitor species and revealed intraspecific karyotypic diversity among three accessions of B. juncea. This study provides valuable information about the genome evolution of B. juncea and a toolkit that will be helpful for chromosome identification.

The peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important grain legume extensively cultivated worldwide, supplying edible oil and protein for human consumption. As in many other crops, plant height is a crucial factor in determining peanut architecture traits and has a unique effect on resistance to lodging and efficiency of mechanized harvesting as well as yield. Currently, the genetic basis underlying plant height remains unclear in peanut, which have hampered marker-assisted selection in breeding. In this study, we conducted a quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis for peanut plant height by using two recombinant inbred line (RIL) populations including “Yuanza 9102 × Xuzhou 68-4 (YX)” and “Xuhua 13 × Zhonghua 6 (XZ)”. In the YX population, 38 QTLs including 10 major QTLs from 9 chromosomes were detected in 4 environments, and 8 consensus QTLs integrated by meta-analysis expressed stably across multiple environments. In the XZ population, 3 major QTLs and seven minor QTLs from 6 chromosomes were detected across 3 environments. Generally, most major QTLs from the two populations were located on pseudomolecule chromosome 9 of Arachis duranesis (A09), indicating there would be key genes on A09 controlling plant height. Further analysis revealed that qPHA09.1a from the XZ population and one consensus QTL, cqPHA09.d from the YX population were co-localized in a reliable 3.4 Mb physical interval on A09, which harbored 161 genes including transcription factors and enzymes related to signaling transduction and cell wall formation. The major and stable QTLs identified in this study may be useful for further gene cloning and identification of molecular markers applicable for breeding.

In materials with broken time-reversal symmetry, the Berry curvature acts as a reciprocal space magnetic field on the conduction electrons and is a significant contribution to the magnetotransport properties, including the intrinsic anomalous Hall effect. Here, we report neutron diffraction, transport, and magnetization measurements of thin films of doped EuTiO3, an itinerant magnetic material, as a function of carrier density and magnetic field. These films are itinerant antiferromagnets at all doping concentrations. At low carrier densities, the magnetoresistance indicates a metamagnetic transition, which is absent at high carrier densities (>6 × 1020 cm−3). Strikingly, the crossover coincides with a sign change in the spontaneous Hall effects, indicating a sign change in the Berry curvature. We discuss the results in the context of the band structure topology and its coupling to the magnetic texture.

We address the controversy over the proximity effect between topological materials and high- T _c superconductors. Junctions are produced between Bi _2 Sr _2 CaCu _2 O ${}_{8+\delta }$ and materials with different Fermi surfaces (Bi _2 Te _3 and graphite). Both cases reveal tunneling spectra that are consistent with Andreev reflection. This is confirmed by a magnetic field that shifts features via the Doppler effect. This is modeled with a single parameter that accounts for tunneling into a screening supercurrent. Thus the tunneling involves Cooper pairs crossing the heterostructure, showing that the Fermi surface mismatch does not hinder the ability to form transparent interfaces, which is accounted for by the extended Brillouin zone and different lattice symmetries.

We report the demonstration of hybrid high-T_{c}-superconductor–semiconductor tunnel junctions, enabling new interdisciplinary directions in condensed matter research. The devices are fabricated by our newly developed mechanical-bonding technique, resulting in high-T_{c}-superconductor–semiconductor tunnel diodes. Tunneling-spectra characterization of the hybrid junctions of Bi_{2}Sr_{2}CaCu_{2}O_{8+δ} combined with bulk GaAs, or a GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well, exhibits excess voltage and nonlinearity, similarly to spectra obtained in scanning-tunneling microscopy, and is in good agreement with theoretical predictions for a d-wave-superconductor–normal-material junction. Additional junctions are demonstrated using Bi_{2}Sr_{2}CaCu_{2}O_{8+δ} combined with graphite or Bi_{2}Te_{3}. Our results pave the way for new methods in unconventional superconductivity studies, novel materials, and quantum technology applications.

Reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) is a valuable tool for optimizing while considering the impact of uncertainties. However, its application in engineering, specifically in pile foundation design, is complicated due to high computational costs and the potential for nonlinear iteration misconvergence. To address these challenges, we propose a modified optimization calculation method utilizing the mean first-order reliability method (MFORM). The revised function of the reliability index is introduced to ensure computational accuracy and linear regression is employed for its calculation. The results of the case study demonstrate that the modified optimization calculation method not only improves computational efficiency but also enhances computational accuracy. While the form of the performance function significantly influences initial and local optimizations, it has minimal impact on global optimization. Through local and global optimizations, the objective function values are reduced by 20.2% and 24.9%, respectively, for the first form of the performance function. For the second form of the performance function, reductions of 15.0% and 24.9%, respectively, are achieved through local and global optimizations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
