Parasitic plants represent a significant challenge in global agriculture, with Broomrape (Orobanche/Phelipanche spp.) being a notable example of a holoparasitic species that targets the roots of host plants. This study employed comparative transcriptomics to investigate the mechanisms underlying the parasitism of P. aegyptiaca on melon, focusing on both resistant and susceptible interactions. The findings indicate that the critical phase of P. aegyptiaca parasitism occurs during the post-attachment stage. It is suggested that peptidases may play a role in the development of invasive cells, while cell wall-degrading enzymes (CWDEs) are likely involved in cell wall modification and degradation, and transferases, elicitors, and effectors may play a role in immune regulation. In this study, 25 tobacco rattle virus (TRV) recombinant vectors were successfully constructed and functionally validated using a host-induced gene silencing assay to explore the functions of candidate-secreted effector proteins. The results revealed that silencing Cluster-107894.0, Cluster-11592.0, and Cluster-12482.0 significantly decreased the parasitism rate of P. aegyptiaca on Nicotiana benthamiana. Notably, Cluster-107849.0 encodes a cellulase with hydrolase activity, Cluster-11592.0 encodes a periodic-dependent kinase inhibitor with phosphoprotein activity, and Cluster-12482.0 encodes a glucan 1,3-β-glucosidase with hydrolase activity. These findings potentially offer a novel theoretical framework and justification for understanding host–parasite plant interactions, and suggest new avenues for developing crop varieties resistant to parasitic infestation. Magnesium imbalances commonly exist in septic patients. However, the association of serum magnesium levels with mortality in septic patients remains uncertain. Herein, we elucidated the association between serum magnesium and all‐cause mortality in septic patients from American and Chinese cohorts by analyzing data from 9099 patients in the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care‐IV (MIMIC‐IV) database and 1727 patients from a university‐affiliated hospital' intensive care unit in China. Patients in both cohorts were categorized into five groups based on serum magnesium quintiles from the MIMIC‐IV dataset. Patients with higher serum magnesium levels exhibited an increased risk of 28‐day mortality in both cohorts. The restricted cubic spline (RCS) curves revealed a progressively elevated risk of 28‐day mortality with increasing serum magnesium in MIMIC‐IV cohort, while a J‐shaped correlation was observed in institutional cohort. Our findings have validated the association between high serum magnesium and high mortality in sepsis across different races and medical conditions. The efficient protoplast transient transformation system in plants is an important tool to study gene expression, metabolic pathways, and various mutagenic parameters, but it has not been established in Phelipanche aegyptiaca. As a root parasitic weed that endangers the growth of 29 species of plants in 12 families around the world, there is still no good control method for P. aegyptiaca. Even the parasitic mechanisms of P. aegyptiaca and the related genes regulating parasitism are not yet understood. In this study, by comparing the factors related to protoplast isolation and transfection, we developed the optimal protocol for protoplast isolation and transfection in Phelipanche aegyptiaca haustorium. The optimal protoplast yield and activity were 6.2 × 106 protoplasts/g fresh weight [FW] and 87.85%, respectively, by using 0.5 mol/L mannitol, enzyme concentrations of 2.5% cellulase R-10 and 0.8% Macerozyme R-10 at 24 °C for 4 h. At the same time, transfection efficiency of protoplasts was up to 78.49% when using 30 μg plasmid, 40% polyethylene glycol (PEG) concentration, 24 °C incubation temperature, and 20 min transfection time. This is the first efficient protoplasts' isolation and transient transformation system of Phelipanche aegyptiaca haustorium, laying a foundation for future studies on the gene function and mechanisms of haustorium formation in parasitic plants. Addressing the issue that the Bayer process is not suitable for low-grade bauxite, carbochlorination was proposed to recover aluminum and silicon from low-grade bauxite. This study focused on the behavior of aluminum and silicon during the carbochlorination process of low-grade bauxite. The impact of various process parameters on the chlorination efficiency was investigated, and the chlorination mechanism and kinetics of aluminum and silicon chlorination in bauxite were analyzed and discussed. Under optimal experimental conditions, the chlorination efficiency of Al2O3 and SiO2 reached 94.93% and 86.32%, respectively. The carbochlorination of aluminum and silicon in bauxite adhered to a shrinking, unreacted core model governed by gas diffusion within the product layer. This process can be bifurcated into two stages. Additionally, calculations were conducted to determine the apparent activation energy and reaction order of the chlorination processes involving Al2O3 and SiO2. Examining the chlorination mechanism revealed that the bauxite carbochlorination encompasses transformations among various minerals. The random changes in the environment play a crucial role in the sustainability of ecosystems. Usually, the construction of stochastic models does not take into account the non-linear growth of intrinsic growth rate. In addition, prey only considers the collective response of the population when encountering predators and ignores the role of individual prey. To address this issue, we contemplate the dynamics of a stochastic prey–predator model with Smith growth rate and cooperative defense. The population density of prey is measured by mass, and the growth limitations are based on the proportion of unused available resources. Additionally, the grazing pattern of the predator incorporates cooperative characteristics into the functional response. We carry out existence and uniqueness analysis for the global positive solution. Then, we construct sufficient conditions for the existence of an ergodic stationary distribution of positive solutions for investigating whether prey and predator populations continue to survive. Numerical examples indicate that the Smith growth rate, cooperative defense and environmental disturbance play crucial roles in the coexistence of interacting populations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
