Abstract

Advances in imaging technology have revolutionized the field of ophthalmology, changing the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of ophthalmic diseases. Swept-source optical coherence tomography(SS-OCT)is a non-contact high-resolution imaging technology. It further improves imaging depth and scanning speed, adds new algorithms and features. The application of SS-OCT enables the three-dimensional evaluation of corneal structures, offering curvature and height maps for both the anterior and posterior surfaces of the cornea, as well as precise corneal thickness mapping. These invaluable tools aid ophthalmologists in effectively screening and diagnosing various corneal lesions such as keratoconus, corneal dystrophy, and degeneration. Moreover, the enhanced speed, accuracy, and sensitivity provided by SS-OCT measurements facilitate improved surgical planning and postoperative monitoring for patients undergoing refractive surgery or keratoplasty. This article reviews the development of SS-OCT technology and its potential clinical utility in corneal diseases and surgical application, in order to support more possible future research and clinical treatment.

27. Effect of Different Packaging Materials on the Quality of Toona sinensis Powder Analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Ion Mobility Spectrometry Combined with Multivariate Statistical Analysis

Abstract

To extend its shelf life, vacuum freeze-dried Toona sinensis (VFDTS) powder was packaged in sealed polyethylene (PE) bags, sealed aluminum foil bags, composite vacuum bags, or aluminum foil vacuum bags. Changes in the sensory quality, moisture content, color, flavor components and total bacterial count of VFDTS powder were monitored during storage under accelerated conditions at (55 ± 1) ℃ and (40 ± 3)% relative humidity (RH). The results showed that VFDTS powder packaged in sealed PE bags exhibited severe moisture absorption and browning with prolonged storage time, and the total bacterial count significantly increased. On the other hand, the moisture content, color and total bacterial count of the powder stored in aluminum foil vacuum bags remained substantially unchanged. A total of 56 volatile compounds were identified in VFDTS powder stored in the different packaging systems, including 13 alcohols, 11 aldehydes, 3 acids, 3 terpenes, 7 ketones, 9 esters, one ether, 2 sulfur compounds, 3 alkanes, and 4 heterocycles. Principal component analysis (PCA) of the volatile compounds showed clear separation among VFDTS powder samples stored in the 4 packaging systems. Based on variable importance in projection (VIP > 1) from orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA), a total of 14 differential volatile compounds were selected, and their clustering heatmaps could be used to effectively classify the samples in different packaging systems. The samples in aluminum foil vacuum bags had the best quality, followed by sealed aluminum foil bags and composite vacuum bags, while the greatest changes in moisture, color, flavor and microbiological quality were observed in VFDTS powder in sealed PE bags during storage.

Abstract

* Context.--Recent genome-wide sequencing studies have identified a subset of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDACs) harboring significant alterations in epigenetic regulation genes, including the COMPASS-like complex genes. Whether this subset of PDACs has specific histologic characteristics or carries prognostic or therapeutic implications is unknown. Objective.--To determine the specific clinicopathologic and molecular features of PDACs carrying mutations in COMPASS-like complex genes. Design.--We analyzed a series of 103 primary and metastatic PDACs with comprehensive molecular profiling, including 13 PDACs carrying loss-of-function COMPASS-like complex gene alterations (study cohort). Another 45 patients carrying PDACs with wild-type COMPASS-like complex genes were used as the control group. Results.--PDACs within the study cohort were smaller, harboring frequent areas of poor differentiation and concurrent alterations in KRAS, TP53, SMAD4, and CDKN2A. A subset of metastatic PDACs from the study cohort showed squamous differentiation. There was a trend toward decreased survival in the study group. We further interrogated 2 public data sets and found that PDACs with COMPASS-like complex gene alterations have increased rates of TP53 mutation, body-tail location, poor differentiation or undifferentiated histology, and a higher death rate. Conclusions.--COMPASS-like complex gene alterations likely represent a subset of more aggressive PDACs with poor or squamous differentiation histologically and increased concurrent TP53 mutations.
