20. Golgi Apparatus Targeted Graphene Oxide Nanocomposites for Synergistic Chemotherapy, Photothermal Therapy, and Photodynamic Therapy of Metastatic Breast Cancer.

Abstract

Although metastatic cancer treatment has advanced in current medicine, finding effective treatments remains challenging due to the metastatic mechanism complexity. The integrity of the Golgi apparatus exerts a vital impact on the evolution and metastasis of a tumor. Meanwhile, targeted cancer therapy is a promising approach for treating cancers. Inspired by the research being conducted on the use of targeted cancer therapies, we developed a Golgi apparatus-targeted multifunctional graphene nanoplatform (PPG-CS@PTX) for the synergistic chemotherapy/photothermal therapy (PTT)/ photodynamic therapy (PDT) of metastatic breast cancer using single near-infrared (NIR) radiation. Interestingly, the obtained nanoparticles preferentially accumulated at the Golgi apparatus and liberated a considerable amount of paclitaxel in a slightly acidic environment. Subsequently, aided by a single NIR radiation, the Golgi structure was destroyed through synergistic chemotherapy/PTT/PDT. Consequently, migration, invasion, and tumor growth were successfully suppressed in vitro and in vivo. Overall, this study offers a promising strategy for treating metastatic breast cancer through synergistic chemotherapy/PTT/PDT with single NIR irradiation (980 nm). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Flood disasters have become one of the most threatening natural disasters in the world, in which waterlogging is the most common form in the context of highly urbanized megacities. The formation of flood disaster is related to many factors and involves information from multiple sources, making it difficult be predicted. This paper integrates multi-source information data, classifies the study area into different categories according to hydrological analysis results, and combines hydrodynamic theory and ArcGIS to get the quantitative prediction of the range and depth of waterlogging under different rainfall inputs. The evaluation results provide the government with accurate and timely information of waterlogging risks and locations in order to improve promptness of emergency management such as evacuation and managing traffics.

Abstract

This paper presents a numerical model that investigates the characteristics of flow, heat, and mass transfer on downward flame propagation in the discontinuous region of solid fuel. Simulations were carried out for various discontinuous distances to analyze the morphology of the flame front and the competition between the "jump" of flame spread and heat transfer from the flame to the unburned area. The results demonstrate that there is a "jump" in the flame propagation in the discontinuous zone, with the flame front exhibiting a defined "acute angle" that undergoes a process from large to small during the flame spreading in the discontinuous area and deflects towards the discontinuous area of the material. The temperature in the discontinuous zone reaches a peak, and the average flame spread rate initially increases and then decreases with the increase of discontinuity distance until the flame spread stops. The study provides valuable insights into the growth and development of fires involving discretely distributed combustible materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
