Abstract A new control approach based on fuzzy sliding mode control (FSMC) is proposed to regulate the chaotic vibration of an axial string. Hamilton’s principle is used to formulate the nonlinear equation of motion of the axial translation string, and the von Kármán equations are used to analyse the geometric nonlinearity. The governing equations are nondimensionalized as partial differential equations and transformed into a nonlinear 3-dimensional system via the third-order Galerkin approach. An active control technique based on the FSMC approach is suggested for the derived dynamic system. By using a recurrent neural network model, we can accurately predict and effectively apply a control strategy to suppress chaotic movements. The necessity of the suggested active control method in the regulation of the nonlinear axial translation string system is proven using different chaotic vibrations. The results show that the study of the chaotic vibrations of axially translating strings requires nonlinear multidimensional dynamic systems of axially moving strings; the validity of the proposed control strategy in controlling the chaotic vibration of axially moving strings in a multidimensional form is demonstrated.

Abstract Currently, 280 million people worldwide experience depression, ranking it third in the global burden of disease. The incidence of depression has risen due to the COVID-19 pandemic, making it essential to examine evidence-based practices in reducing depressive symptoms during this unprecedented time. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to analyze randomized controlled trials during the COVID-19 pandemic that evaluated the effect of mindfulness meditation on depressive symptoms in individuals with depression. Four databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus) were searched in November 2023 using search terms including meditation, mindfulness, depression, and depressive symptoms. The meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager 5.4 software (Cochrane Collaboration). A random model and Standard Mean Difference analysis with 95% CIs were used for continuous variables. IntroductionDuring an immune response, macrophages undergo systematic metabolic rewiring tailored to support their functions. Branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) metabolism has been reported to modulate macrophage function; however, its role in macrophage alternative activation remain unclear. We aimed to investigate the role of BCAA metabolism in macrophage alternative activation.MethodThe metabolomics of BMDM-derived M0 and M2 macrophages were analyzed using LC-MS. BCAAs were supplemented and genes involved in BCAA catabolism were inhibited during M2 macrophage polarization. The expression of M2 marker genes was assessed through RT-qPCR, immunofluorescence, and flow cytometry.Results and discussionMetabolomic analysis identified increased BCAA metabolism as one of the most significantly rewired pathways upon alternative activation. M2 macrophages had significantly lower BCAA levels compared to controls. BCAA supplementation promoted M2 macrophage polarization both in vitro and in vivo and increased oxidative phosphorylation in M2 macrophages. Blocking BCAA entry into mitochondria by knockdown of SLC25A44 inhibited M2 macrophage polarization. Furthermore, M2 macrophages polarization was suppressed by knockdown of Branched-chain amino-acid transaminase 2 (BCAT2) and branched chain keto acid dehydrogenase E1 subunit alpha (BCKDHA), both of which are key enzymes involved in BCAA oxidation. Overall, our findings suggest that BCAA catabolism plays an important role in polarization toward M2 macrophages.

Accurate three-dimensional spatiotemporal distribution information on near-surface aerosols is of great significance for environmental research. In this study, a 3D scanning coaxial Mie lidar (3D-STML) was developed to achieve a fast three-dimensional scanning observation of aerosol diffusion processes in near-surface areas. 3D-STML generates high-spatiotemporal resolution images of aerosol extinction coefficient in real-time and captures the dynamic changes of aerosols in near real-time. By optimizing the design of the light guide mirror and the telescope sub-mirror, the system has a small overlap. Based on this, a highly stable and high-speed mechanical rotation mechanism was developed to enable three-dimensional observations. The integration of a solid-state high-repetition-rate pulsed laser and a coaxial, optical system for the transmitter and receiver ensures rapid tracking of aerosol plumes. To meet the observation requirements of near-surface aerosols, an aerosol inversion algorithm combining the Fernald and Klett methods was designed and developed. For aerosol plume monitoring needs, an aerosol plume-tracking algorithm based on Kalman filtering was developed to track the spatiotemporal evolution of aerosols automatically. Experimental results demonstrated that 3D-STML is capable of detecting aerosols in a range from 15 m to 4 km, with a distance resolution of 1.5 m and a time resolution of 0.083 s. It can effectively track and capture aerosol plumes. It can be used for large-scale, long-term observation of near-surface aerosols and for monitoring the spatiotemporal evolution of aerosol plumes.

Abstract Objective To investigate the association of leisure-time physical activity and serum cotinine levels with the risk of periodontitis in the general population and to further analyze the interaction between leisure-time physical activity and serum cotinine levels on the risk of periodontitis. Methods This was a cross-sectional study, extracting data from 9605 (56.19%) participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database from 2009 to 2014, and analyzing the relationship and interaction effects of serum cotinine level, leisure time physical activity, and risk of periodontitis by weighted univariate logistic modeling; Effect sizes were determined using ratio of ratios (OR), 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Results 5,397 (56.19%) of 9,605 participants had periodontitis; an increased risk of periodontitis was found in those in the leisure time physical activity intensity

Abstract Iron-based nanotubes are promising candidates for high performance electromagnetic wave absorbing fillers due to their high aspect ratio, light weight, high axial permeability and high saturation magnetization. Furthermore, the introduction of carbon can improve dielectric loss and block the agglomeration of iron nanotubes. Here, Fe@C composite nanotubes were prepared by introducing carbon onto the surface of precursor α-FeOOH’ fibers followed by hydrogen-thermal annealing. We find that Fe@C composite nanotubes retain the one-dimensional nanostructure of the precursor throughout the annealing. The well-developed lattice and nanostructure of Fe@C nanotubes endow high saturation magnetization, high anisotropy, suppressed eddy current effect and cross-particle exchange coupling as well, and thus contribute to an enhanced permeability. Coatings with Fe@C as fillers achieve a reflection loss of up to −69.34 dB at 3.37 GHz at the matching thickness of 3.97 mm. The Fe@C composite nanotubes developed here are a promising candidate for high performance electromagnetic wave absorbing fillers.

FeSiAl alloys with a composition of Fe-9.6Si-5.4Al, also known as Sendust alloys, present the unique potential to exhibit efficient electromagnetic wave absorption (EMA) in the P-band. However, the electromagnetic properties of this type of alloy are highly sensitive to the shape, microstructure, and microchemistry, which then inspire the current research. The evolution of the microstructure/microchemistry of FeSiAl particles was systematically revealed in a single particle scale for the first time, and the resulting influence on the electromagnetic properties was investigated. Recrystallization occurs in the annealing process on FeSiAl particles and the oxide films on the surface evolve evidently when annealed in 5%H2/Ar or air, which can conduce improved electromagnetic properties. The FeSiAl particles annealed in 5%H2/Ar present efficient EMA in the P-L band while those in air contribute to high reflection loss. This work indicates the feasibility of achieving a high and adjustable EMA efficiency in the P-L band through microstructure and microchemistry tailoring.

Porous asphalt (PA) have attracted considerable interest due to their functional advantages such as significant water permeability and noise attenuation properties. Nevertheless, its vulnerability to damage significantly hinders its widespread application. Therefore, this paper aims to investigate the damage characteristics of PA's high- and low-temperature performance under the coupled effects of moisture and temperature. Firstly, Hamburg Wheel-Tracking Test (HWTT) and three-point bending tests were conducted on PA under different coupling conditions. Subsequently, its damage characteristics were analyzed using the three-stage permanent deformation model, logistic model, and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) method. The findings indicate that under dry conditions, PA-13 exhibits a linear decrease in rutting resistance within the temperature range of 40–60 °C, followed by a significant decrease at 70 °C. During immersion in water, PA-13 undergoes a second and third-stage rutting evolution process, with an accelerated creep rate observed at 70°C. High temperatures exacerbate the viscoelastic damage of PA-13, while multi-field coupling promotes the simultaneous occurrence of viscoelastic damage and stripping damage. Furthemore, the results of the two-way ANOVA indicate that moisture has a more significant impact on high-temperature performance damage. In addition, in a dry environment, the low-temperature crack resistance of PA-13 deteriorates with decreasing temperature, but there is little difference at −20 °C and −30 °C. This is attributed to PA-13 exhibiting flexible cracking at 0 °C and −10 °C, while undergoing brittle cracking at −20 °C and −30 °C. Additionally, the coupled effect of temperature and moisture reduces the damage tolerance of PA-13 and accelerates its cracking process. The results of the two-way ANOVA indicate that both low temperature and treatment methods have a statistically significant impact on low-temperature performance, with treatment methods having a higher degree of influence. The findings of this paper contribute to an in-depth understanding of the damage mechanism of PA-13.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) presents an escalating global challenge as conventional antibiotic treatments become less effective. In response, photodynamic therapy (PDT) and photothermal therapy (PTT) have emerged as promising alternatives. While rooted in ancient practices, these methods have evolved with modern innovations, particularly through the integration of lasers, refining their efficacy. PDT harnesses photosensitizers to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are detrimental to microbial cells, whereas PTT relies on heat to induce cellular damage. The key to their effectiveness lies in the utilization of photosensitizers, especially when integrated into nano- or micron-scale supports, which amplify ROS production and enhance antimicrobial activity. Over the last decade, carbon dots (CDs) have emerged as a highly promising nanomaterial, attracting increasing attention owing to their distinctive properties and versatile applications, including PDT and PTT. They can not only function as photosensitizers, but also synergistically combine with other photosensitizers to enhance overall efficacy. This review explores the recent advancements in CDs, underscoring their significance and potential in reshaping advanced antimicrobial therapeutics.

Molybdenum (Mo) is a rare and important element extensively utilised in aerospace, radar communications, optoelectronic devices, and the military. This study proposes an environmentally friendly physical method based on photon–phonon resonance absorption for the separation of Mo from sodium molybdate (Na2MoO4). We examined the vibrational spectrum of Na2MoO4 using the CASTEP code, employing first-principles density functional theory. Through dynamic process analysis, we analysed the vibrational modes and assigned peaks corresponding to experimental infrared (IR) and Raman data. We focused on the vibrational modes associated with Mo and identified that the highest-intensity IR-active peak at 858 cm−1 corresponded to Mo–O bond asymmetric stretching. Therefore, we propose the use of a high-power terahertz laser at ~25 THz to facilitate the separation of Mo from Na2MoO4. Experimental investigations are expected in the future.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common liver diseases. Silencing information regulator 1 (SIRT1) was demonstrated to modulate cholesterol and lipid metabolism in NAFLD. Here, a novel SIRT1 activator, E1231, was studied for its potential improvement effects on NAFLD. C57BL/6J mice were fed a high-fat and high-cholesterol diet (HFHC) for 40 weeks to create a NAFLD mouse model, and E1231 was administered by oral gavage (50 mg/kg body weight, once/day) for 4 weeks. Liver-related plasma biochemistry parameter tests, Oil Red O staining, and hematoxylin-eosin staining results showed that E1231 treatment ameliorated plasma dyslipidemia, plasma marker levels of liver damage (alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST)), liver total cholesterol (TC) and triglycerides (TG) contents, and obviously decreased hepatic steatosis score and NAFLD Activity Score (NAS) in the NAFLD mouse model. Western blot results showed that E1231 treatment significantly regulated lipid-metabolism-related protein expression. In particular, E1231 treatment increased SIRT1, PGC-1α, and p-AMPKα protein expression but decreased ACC and SCD-1 protein expression. Additionally, in vitro studies demonstrated that E1231 inhibited lipid accumulation and improved mitochondrial function in free-fatty-acid-challenged hepatocytes, and required SIRT1 activation. In conclusion, this study illustrated that the SIRT1 activator E1231 alleviated HFHC-induced NAFLD development and improved liver injury by regulating the SIRT1-AMPKα pathway, and might be a promising candidate compound for NAFLD treatment.

Abstract The infertile electromagnetic (EM) attenuating behavior of carbon material makes the improvement of its performance remain a significant challenge. Herein, a facile and low‐cost strategy radically distinct from the prevalent approaches by constructing polar covalent bonds between sp2‐hybridized and sp3‐hybridized carbon atoms to introduce strong dipolar polarization is proposed. Through customizing and selectively engineering the N moieties conjugated with carbon rings, the microstructure of the as‐synthesized 2D nanosheet is gradually converted with the partial transition from sp3 carbons to sp2 carbons, where the electric dipoles between them are also tuned. Supported by the DFT calculations, a progressively enhanced sp2─sp3 C─C dipolar polarization is caused by this controllable structure evolution, which is demonstrated to contribute dominantly to the total dielectric loss. By virtue of this unduplicated loss behavior, a remarkable effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) beyond ‐10 dB of 8.28 GHz (2.33 mm) and an ultrawide EAB beyond ‐5 dB of 13.72 GHz (4.93 mm) are delivered, which upgrade the EM performance of carbon material to a higher level. This study not only demonstrates the huge perspective of sp2─sp3‐hybridized carbon in EM elimination but also gives pioneering insights into the carbon–carbon polarization mechanism for guiding the development of advanced EM absorption materials.

The output feedback robust control design is required for switched systems (SSs) without the state feedback information. For the sliding mode control (SMC) based on state observers, the unmatched uncertainty and disturbance cannot be rejected completely. In this paper, an output feedback sliding mode control (SMC) based on a robust integral sliding mode (RISM) is presented for switched systems with unmatched uncertainties. First, the control task of the output feedback stabilization based on the state observer is given. Then, in order to reject the unmatched uncertainty, the RISM is constructed on the space of the estimated state, whose parameters are selected ensuring that the system in the sliding mode is robust exponentially stable. Linear matrix inequality conditions for the parameter design and the stabilization switching rule are achieved, which make the sliding mode can reject the unmatched uncertainty and suppress the unmatched disturbance both at the designed control switching rule and the arbitrary switching rule. Consequently, the corresponding SMC controller is designed based on the state estimation and the propsoed RISM. Finally, the application simulation results to a one-link manipulator with the load change validated the effectiveness and feasibility.

Gypsum/salt beds are widely developed in petroliferous basins across the world. Most basins with gypsum/salt beds have been proven to host abundant hydrocarbon resources. Previous studies on the effects of gypsum/salt beds on hydrocarbon reservoirs primarily focused on their excellent sealing property as cap rocks. However, an increasing number of exploration discoveries have shown that gypsum/salt beds have the potential to promote the formation of high-quality source rocks and hydrocarbon reservoirs. Gypsum/salt beds influence the generation, preservation and accumulation of hydrocarbons. Based on the systematic analysis of the generation of hydrocarbons in global gypsum/salt-bearing sequences, the study discussed the control of gypsum/salt beds on play elements, and explore the relationship between the development of gypsum/salt beds and global large- and medium-scale hydrocarbon reservoirs. Furthermore, we analyzed the correlation between typical gypsum/salt-bearing sequences and their hydrocarbon generation potentials in China. In-depth analysis shows three patterns in terms of the spatial superimposition of gypsum/salt beds and source rocks, that is, post-salt pattern, inter-salt pattern and pre-salt pattern. Among others, the source rocks of the inter-salt pattern are widely developed in salt basins and of great potential for hydrocarbon exploration.

Background: Asthma, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and anthropometric measures are correlated complex traits that all have a major genetic component.Objective: To investigate the overlap in genetic variants associated with these complex traits.Methods: Using United Kingdom Biobank data, we performed univariate association analysis, fine-mapping, and mediation analysis to identify and dissect shared genomic regions associated with asthma, T2D, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC).Results: We found several genome-wide significant variants in and around the JAZF1 gene that are associated with asthma, T2D, or height with two of these variants shared by the three phenotypes. We also observed an association in this region with WC when adjusted for BMI. However, there was no association with WC when it was not adjusted for BMI or weight. Additionally, only suggestive associations between variants in this region and BMI were observed. Fine-mapping analyses suggested that within JAZF1 there are non-overlapping regions harboring causal susceptibility variants for asthma, T2D, and height. Mediation analyses supported the conclusion that these are independent associations.Conclusion: Our findings indicate that variants in the JAZF1 are associated with asthma, T2D, and height, but the associated causal variant(s) are different for each of the three phenotypes.

Abstract Our previous research demonstrated that NOD-like receptor family CARD domain-containing protein 4 (NLRC4) inflammasome was overexpressed in renal tissues of patients with diabetic nephropathy (DN). This study further investigated the effect of circRNAs-miRNAs interaction on NLRC4 and their potential mechanisms. DN mice models were first established using STZ. Then, pyroptosis related marker expression was detected using qPCR, western blot (WB), and immunohistochemistry analysis. After that, differentially expressed circRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs were investigated using next-generation sequencing. Additionally, the function and potential mechanism of circ_0000181 and miR-667-5p on pyroptosis were measured in vitro DN cell model using MTS, WB, and Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. There was an apparent elevation of NLRC4, Caspase1, IL-1β, and IL-18 levels in DN mice. The next-generation sequencing results revealed that there were 947 circRNAs and 390 miRNAs significantly different between the DN and sham kidney tissue, of which circ_0000181 and miR-667-5p had potential targeting effects with NLRC4. Dual-luciferase and functional rescue experiments demonstrated that circ_0000181 promoted NLRC4 inflammasome activation via competitive sponge of miR-667-5p, promoted the release of IL-1β and IL-18, and caused pyroptosis. Altogether, circ_0000181 regulates miR-667-5p/NLRC4 axis to promote pyroptosis progression in DN.

Abstract Background Antibodies to PD-1 and PD-L1 have remarkably improved the overall survival of many patients with advanced solid tumors. SHR-1210 is an anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody. Dermatologic reactive capillary hemangiomas (RCH) were the most common and unique drug-related AEs of SHR-1210, but rare on oral mucosa and gastrointestinal mucosa. Herein we report a case of RCH occurred in oral mucosa during the clinical trials of SHR-1210 in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. Case presentation A male in his 60 s with a history of non-small cell lung cancer received injection of anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibodies SHR-1210. The patient developed drug-related RCH on skin after the first injection and began to have gingival hyperplasia one year after the first injection which gradually increased in size and affect eating and speaking. Anti-PD-1 treatments were continued. After periodontal treatment, two oral lesions and one skin lesion were surgically removed. Similar histological manifestation was found in all three lesions as reactive capillary hemangiomas. All lesions had a good prognosis without recurrence on oral mucosa within one year after surgery. Conclusions Oral reactive capillary hemangiomas could be induced by SHR-1210 in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. Surgical resection is an effective treatment with a good prognosis.

Abstract Background Infertility, an important source of stress, could affect sexual life. Extensive studies suggest that the incidence of sexual dysfunction is highly prevalent in infertile women. As the duration of infertility increases, the level of stress is also likely to increase even further, and this could aggravate psychological pain and cause sexual dysfunction. However, the effect of infertility duration on sexual health is unclear. Methods We conducted a case-control study in which 715 patients participated between September 1,2020 and December 25, 2020. We included patients diagnosed with infertility (aged between 20 to 45), who were divided into four groups according to their infertility durations: ≤ 2 years (Group I, n = 262), > 2 years but ≤ 5 years (Group II, n = 282), > 5 years but ≤ 8 years (Group III, n = 97), and > 8 years (Group IV, n = 74). A questionnaire survey on female sexual functions and psychological depression was administered to participants, and their female sexual functions and depression status were measured using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), respectively. Results As the number of years of infertility increased, the PHQ-9 score as well as the incidence of psychological depression increased significantly (p < 0.05), but the total score of FSFI and those of its six domains/sub-scales were not significantly different among the four groups. An analysis of the relevant factors affecting sexual functions, using the multivariable logistic regression model, revealed that when the infertility duration was greater than 8 years, there was a significant increase in the incidence of sexual dysfunction [adjusted odds ratios (AOR) = 5.158, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.935–13.746, P = 0.001], arousal disorder (AOR = 2.955, 95% CI: 1.194–7.314, P = 0.019), coital pain (AOR = 3.811, 95% CI: 1.045–13.897, P = 0.043), and lubrication disorder (AOR = 5.077, 95% CI: 1.340–19.244, P = 0.017). Conclusions An increasing infertility duration is a risk factor for the occurrence of sexual dysfunction. Hence, as the infertility duration increases, the incidence of female sexual dysfunction and psychological distress could also increase, especially when the infertility duration is more than 8 years.

Two-dimensional (2D) ice I is atomic-level ice that is composed of two interlocked atomic layers saturated with hydrogen bonds. It has recently been experimentally observed, but its properties have yet to be clarified. Accordingly, we theoretically studied the hydrophobic properties of 2D ice I. On the contrary, a simulation of a hydrogen fluoride molecule on a 2D ice surface manifested that it destroyed the 2D ice structure and connected new hydrogen bonds with water molecules. Investigations of the interfacial effect between 2D and three-dimensional (3D) ice films indicated that the network structure of 2D ice was not destroyed by a 3D ice surface, as the former was saturated with hydrogen bonds. However, the surface of 3D ice reorganized to form as many hydrogen bonds as possible. Thus, the 2D ice film was hydrophobic and inhibited the growth of 3D ice. This shows that if 2D ice can be produced on an industrial scale, it can be used as an anti-3D-icing agent under low temperatures.

Abstract Purpose To investigate the effect of liver-specific knockdown of ANGPTL8 on the structure of the gut microbiota. Methods We constructed mice with liver-specific ANGPTL8 knockdown by using an adeno-associated virus serotype 8 (AAV8) system harbouring an ANGPTL8 shRNA. We analysed the structure and function of the gut microbiome through pyrosequencing and KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) functional prediction. Results Compared with controls, ANGPTL8 shRNA reduced the Simpson index and Shannon index (p < 0.01) of the gut microbiota in mice. At the phylum level, the sh-ANGPTL8 group showed a healthier gut microbiota composition than controls (Bacteroidetes: controls 67.52%, sh-ANGPTL8 80.75%; Firmicutes: controls 10.96%, sh-ANGPTL8 8.58%; Proteobacteria: controls 9.29%, sh-ANGPTL8 0.98%; F/B ratio: controls 0.16, sh-ANGPTL8 0.11). PCoA and UPGMA analysis revealed a significant difference in microbiota composition, while KEGG analysis revealed a significant difference in microbiota function between controls and the sh-ANGPTL8 group. Conclusion Our results revealed that inhibition of ANGPTL8 signalling altered the structure of the gut microbiome, which might further affect the metabolism of mice. We have thus identified ANGPTL8 as a novel hepatogenic hormone potentially involving the liver-gut axis and regulating the structure of the gut microbiota.

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanism by which growth arrest‐specific transcript 5 (GAS5) regulates bladder cancer cells. Bladder cancer samples were collected and tested for experiment. Dual‐luciferase reporter assay was used to verify the downstream target genes for GAS5 and miR‐21. The expression level of GAS5 was decreased and that of miR‐21 was increased, indicating a negative correlation between the two. Patients with high GAS5 level and low miR‐21 level had relatively longer survival rates. GAS5 inhibited bladder cancer cells proliferation and promoted apoptosis, and miR‐21 had the opposite effects. MiR‐21 was a direct target for GAS5, whereas phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) was a direct target gene of miR‐21. Low expression of miR‐21 could reverse the proliferative and antiapoptotic effects caused by GAS5 silencing. High levels of GAS5 and low levels of miR‐21 might be associated with a higher survival rate in bladder cancer patients. GAS5 could exert antiproliferative and proapoptotic effects on bladder cancer cells through miR‐21 and PTEN.

Y5Si3 is an air- and water- stable electride in which part of electrons are confined in one-dimensional channels composed of Y atoms. Y5Si3 has a promoting effect on ammonia synthesis at ambient pressure due to the unique properties of these electrons at interstitial cavities (anionic electrons). Here we carry out a detailed study of electronic structure, optical and elastic properties of Y5Si3. It is found that the anionic electrons form a valence band near the Fermi energy level and it is mainly contributed by the Y-4d orbital. The calculated results of optical and mechanical properties indicated that Y5Si3 is a brittle metal and exhibits weak anisotropy. Our present work provides a comprehensive understanding on physical properties of Y5Si3.

Garnet-type ceramic electrolyte with exceptionally high Li+ conductivity has attracted wide interests for the development of safe electrochemical devices. However, the factors affecting the ionic migration still deserve more attentions. In this study, five garnet-types ceramic electrolyte were chosen to investigate the factors. The thermal behavior of garnet-type electrolyte during sintering was studied to achieve high conductivity. The electrochemical properties are correlated with crystal structure, migrating route and lattice parameters. Nine influening factors were discussed to analyze the ionic migration in garnet-type ceramic electrolyte.

The article is devoted to studying the experience of the People’s Republic ofChinain creating and maintaining the functioning of modern tourism infrastructure, as well as analyzing the possibilities to adapt and implement this experience in Ukrainian practice. According to the hypothesis of the authors, international cooperation between the PRC andUkrainein the field of developing tourism infrastructure has the potential to intensify. It is proved that such cooperation should take place taking into account the current challenges of global development. It is determined that the possibilities of international cooperation between the People’s Republic ofChinaandUkrainein the field of tourism and development of tourism infrastructure are not enough. In particular, Ukraine, through the bodies of state executive power, almost does not use the potential of cooperation in using the experience of the People’s Republic of China in creating and maintaining the functioning of modern tourist infrastructure. A notable problem of the intensification of international cooperation between the People’s Republic ofChinaandUkrainein the field of tourism, resorts and hospitality is the lack of a mutually beneficial mechanism for attracting and supporting Chinese investments to implement existing and upgrading existing tourist infrastructure projects in accordance with recognized world standards. In the Chinese market, the opportunities of Ukrainian regions and their tourist potential are not well-publicized. It is advisable to introduce tools of simplified access of interested enterprises to international exhibitions. The perspective direction of further exploration in this problem is the substantiation and development of perspective models of cooperation in the field of tourism infrastructure development of interested Chinese and Ukrainian business entities, including investors. The research carried out made it possible to formulate a number of scientifically substantiated proposals and recommendations aimed at intensifying the development of tourism infrastructure in Ukraine, using the experience of the People’s Republic of China, as well as with the attraction of opportunities of Chinese investors.

The scientific work presents the results of a study of the state and problems of international cooperation between China and Ukraine in the field of tourism. It has been determined that the potential of international cooperation between the People's Republic of China and Ukraine in the field of tourism is not used sufficiently. The purpose of the article is to present the results of a study on the problems of economic stimulation of the tourist flow between the PRC and Ukraine. The regulatory framework for the regulation of international cooperation of China and Ukraine in the field of tourism has been analyzed. Trends in the entry of Chinese citizens to Ukraine have been identified. The key problems that may have a negative impact on the intensification of the tourist flow from China to Ukraine and from Ukraine to China have been identified. The presence of visa restrictions, as well as possible ways of mutual simplification of visa procedures (formalities) have been indicated. The tendency of increasing the number of tourism products, presented in the markets of tourist services of both countries, providing for the possibility of mutual visits has been identified. The most popular tourist destinations of Ukraine for citizens of China and China for citizens of Ukraine have been highlighted. The possibilities of increasing tourist flows by increasing the potential for cooperation in the thematic segments (by type of tourism) have been described. Scientifically based proposals and recommendations aimed at optimizing the international cooperation of China and Ukraine in the field of tourism have been made. The prospects of scientific research in this direction have been determined. A promising direction for further research in this problem is the discovery in the markets of tourist services of both countries, first of all using marketing analysis methods, of "market niches", in which economically expedient tourism products can be developed and implemented

Background: Bone grafts are in high demand due to the increase in the cases of bone defects mainly caused by trauma, old age, and disease-related bone damages. Tissue-engineered calcium phosphate (CaP) biomaterials match the major inorganic contents of bone, thereby could be the potential bone graft substitute. However, CaP-bone grafts lack the osteoinductivity that is vital for effective bone regeneration. In this study, we aimed to test the bone defect healing potential of biomimetically fabricated low dose BMP2-doped CaP (BMP2.BioCaP) grafts in a large animal model.Methods: Low dose BMP2 was doped internally (BMP2-int.BioCaP) or on the surface of CaP (BMP2-sur.BioCaP) grafts during the fabrication process. Our previous study showed the robust bone regenerative potential of BMP2-int.BioCaP and BMP2-sur.BioCaP grafts in the rat ectopic model. In this study, we investigated the bone defect healing potential of BMP2.BioCaP grafts in sheep humerus/femoral defects, as well as compared with that of autologous bone graft and clinically used deproteinized bovine bone (DBB) xenograft.Results: Different ways of BMP2 doping did not affect the surface morphology and degradation properties of the graft materials. Micro-CT and histology results showed robustly higher bone defect-healing potential of the BMP2.BioCaP grafts compared to clinically used DBB grafts. The bone defect healing potential of BMP2.BioCaP grafts was as effective as that of the autologous bone graft. Although, BMP2-int.BioCaP doped half the amount of BMP2 compared to BMP2-sur.BioCaP, its' bone defect healing potential was even robust. The BMP2.BioCaP grafts showed less immunogenicity compared to BioCaP or DBB grafts. The volume density of blood vessel-like and bone marrow-like structures in both BMP2.BioCaP graft groups were in a similar extent to the autologous group. Meticulous observation of higher magnification histological images showed active bone regeneration and remodeling during bone defect healing in BMP2.BioCaP graft groups.Conclusion: The robust bone regenerative potential of BMP2.BioCaP grafts in the ectopic model and in-situ bone defects in small and large animals warrant the pre-clinical studies on large animal critical-sized segmental bone defects.

Phenethyl isothiocyanate is widely present in cruciferous vegetables with multiple biological effects. Here we reported the antiatherogenic effects and the underlying mechanisms of JC-5411 (Phenethyl isothiocyanate formulation) in vitro and in vivo. Luciferase reporter assay showed that JC-5411 increased the activity of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and antioxidant response element (ARE). JC-5411 treatment significantly increased the protein expression of Nrf2 and its downstream target gene hemeoxygenase 1 (HO-1) in liver of apolipoprotein E deficient (ApoE−/−) mice. Importantly, JC-5411 treatment significantly reduced atherosclerotic plaque area in both en face aorta and aortic sinus when compared with model group in WD induced ApoE−/− mice. JC-5411 obviously decreased proinflammatory factors’ levels in serum of ApoE−/− mice, LPS stimulated macrophages and TNFα induced endothelial cells, respectively. JC-5411 significantly decreased the levels of total cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride (TG) in both serum and liver of ApoE−/− mice and hyperlipidemic golden hamsters. Mechanism studies showed that JC-5411 exerted anti-inflammatory effect through activating Nrf2 signaling and inhibiting NF-κB and NLRP3 inflammasome pathway. JC-5411 exerted regulating lipid metabolism effect through increasing cholesterol transfer proteins (ABCA1 and LDLR) expression, regulating fatty acids synthesis related genes (p-ACC, SCD1 and FAS), and increasing fatty acids β-oxidation (CPT1A) in vivo. Furthermore, JC-5411 treatment had a favorable antioxidant effect in ApoE−/− mice by increasing the antioxidant related genes expression. Taken together, we conclude that JC-5411 as a Nrf2 activator has anti-inflammatory, rebalancing lipid metabolism, and antioxidant effects, which makes it as a potential therapeutic agent against atherosclerosis.

Endotoxins and cytokines play an important role in multiple organ failure pathogenesis in patients with severe Gram-negative bacterial infection. We present a clinical case where an oXiris hemofilter was used for continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) treatment in a patient with septic shock after liver transplantation. A 35-year-old man with a 20-year history of hepatitis B presented with jaundice, loss of appetite, and decreased urine output. He was diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis with acute-on-chronic liver failure, and liver transplantation was indicated. The day after surgery, he developed hyperthermia, hypotension, anuria, and a progressive increase in blood inflammatory markers and creatinine. Combined with the donor source and blood culture results, septic shock after transplantation was considered. The patient was immediately treated with endotoxin and cytokine adsorption CRRT (oXiris hemofilter) with tigecycline, caspofungin, and ganciclovir as anti-infectives. After 48 hours on CRRT, his blood pressure gradually stabilized, the CLIF Consortium Acute-on-Chronic Liver Failure score decreased from 63 to 43. Procalcitonin, endotoxin, and the inflammatory factors interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-10 also decreased gradually. The patient’s liver and kidney functions were completely restored. Our experience suggests that oXiris CRRT combined with antibacterial therapy is an effective treatment for septic shock after liver transplantation.

High-pressure Raman scattering and angle dispersive synchrotron x-ray diffraction studies have been carried out on magnesium tantalate (MgTa2O6) up to 41 GPa at room temperature. A pressure-induced phase transition at pressures above 10 GPa accompanied by softening of the internal ν11 (Eg) modes has been observed. Another phase transition took place at 20.2 GPa, which indicates that the edge shared TaO6 octahedra are distorted. The equation of state for MgTa2O6 in low pressure phase I was obtained by the second-order Birch–Murnaghan method, yielding a zero-pressure bulk modulus B0 of 205.8 ± 8.4 GPa. The pressure dependencies of the lattice vibration mode were extracted, and it is suggested that the instability of the trirutile structure at high pressure is related to the strong deformation of the TaO6 octahedra. Decompression measurements suggest that the pressure-induced transformation is irreversible.

Abstract The ability of natural killer (NK) cells to mediate potent antitumor immunity in clinical adoptive transfer settings relies, in large part, on their ability to retain cytotoxic function following cryopreservation. To avoid potential systemic toxicities associated with infusions of NK cells into patients in the presence of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), interest in alternative cryoprotective agents (CPAs) with improved safety profiles has grown. Despite the development of various sugars, amino acids, polyols, and polyampholytes as cryoprotectants, their ability to promote protection from intracellular cryodamage is limited because they mostly act outside of the cell. Though ways to shuttle cryoprotectants intracellularly exist, NK cells' high aversity to manipulation and freezing has meant they are highly understudied as targets for the development of new cryopreservation approaches. Here, the first example of a safe and efficient platform for the intracellular delivery of non‐DMSO CPAs to NK cells is presented. Biocompatible chitosan‐based nanoparticles are engineered to mediate the efficient DMSO‐free cryopreservation of NK cells. NK cells cryopreserved in this way retain potent cytotoxic, degranulation, and cytokine production functions against tumor targets. This not only represents the first example of delivering nanoparticles to NK cells, but illustrates the clinical potential in manufacturing safer allogeneic adoptive immunotherapies “off the shelf.”

Aggressive behavior is regulated by various neuromodulators such as neuropeptides and biogenic amines. Here we found that the neuropeptide Drosulfakinin (Dsk) modulates aggression in Drosophila melanogaster. Knock-out of Dsk or Dsk receptor CCKLR-17D1 reduced aggression. Activation and inactivation of Dsk-expressing neurons increased and decreased male aggressive behavior, respectively. Moreover, data from transsynaptic tracing, electrophysiology and behavioral epistasis reveal that Dsk-expressing neurons function downstream of a subset of P1 neurons (P1a-splitGAL4) to control fighting behavior. In addition, winners show increased calcium activity in Dsk-expressing neurons. Conditional overexpression of Dsk promotes social dominance, suggesting a positive correlation between Dsk signaling and winning effects. The mammalian ortholog CCK has been implicated in mammal aggression, thus our work suggests a conserved neuromodulatory system for the modulation of aggressive behavior.

Scientific work presents the results of the research status and problems in international cooperation People’s Republic of China and Ukraine in the tourism spheres, resorts and hotel industry, and provides suggestions and recommendations aimed at strengthening this cooperation with regard to the current state of relations between the two countries. Analyses are the normative-legal framework regulating the international cooperation in the People’s Republic of China and Ukraine in the field of tourism, resorts and hospitality industry. The tendencies of the entry of PRC citizens in Ukraine have been analysed. Key issues have been identified and they can have a negative impact on the intensification of the tourist flow from China to Ukraine and from Ukraine to China. Visa restrictions have been identified, as well as on possible ways of mutual simplification in visa procedures (formalities). The revealed tendency of increase in the number of tourism products on the tourist services markets of both countries, which provide the mutual visits possibility. The most popular tourist destinations in Ukraine for citizens of China and of China to citizens of Ukraine. The possibilities of increasing tourist flows have been identified by increasing the potential for cooperation in thematic segments (types of tourism), including in the field of educational tourism. Opportunities for enhancing cooperation on attraction of opportunities of the Chinese organizations in the creation and development in Ukraine of a modern tourist resort and hotel infrastructure have been identified. Evidence-based suggestions and recommendations have been made to optimize international cooperation of the People’s Republic of China and Ukraine in the field of tourism, resorts and hospitality industry. Perspectives of scientific research in this direction.

The author analyses modern tendencies of investment cooperation between Ukraine and China. Describes the contents of the initiative «One belt and One road». The estimation of prospects of the Chinese-Ukrainian investment cooperation. The suggestions made about the possibilities of Ukraine's accession to the initiative «Economic belt of the silk Road». The aim of this work is to provide scientifically justified recommendations for the expansion (growth and improvement of the structure), Sino-Ukrainian investment and innovative cooperation. Method or methodology of work. Was used General scientific and specific methods and techniques of scientific research – analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, analysis and synthesis, abstraction, method of expert estimation, grouping, formal-logical method. The results of the work. Provides a synthesis of status, trends and prospects of Sino-Ukrainian economic, investment and innovative cooperation, the proposals for enhancing Sino-Ukrainian investment and innovative cooperation. The scope of the results. The obtained results can be applied in the formation and realization of state foreign economic policy, improvement of mechanisms for the implementation of Sino-Ukrainian infrastructure projects and for further development of relations between Ukraine and China. Conclusions. The most attractive infrastructure projects that could be implemented with the participation of Chinese investors, is the upgrade of port infrastructure, purchase of innovative rail equipment, the evelopment of transport crossings on the borders with the European States. This is especially true in the context of the loss of the Ukrainian economy of its transit potential. A key challenge for the economic bloc of the Ukrainian Government is to continue radical economic reforms, the introduction of flexible mechanisms of regulation of economic activity, and implement a balanced structuralinvestment policy, creation of favorable business climate for foreign investors. The prospects of intensification of the Sino-Ukrainian investment and innovative cooperation should be undertaken under the auspices of the Commission for cooperation between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of China (in particular, with the participation of specialists of the Subcommittee on trade and economic cooperation). The results of this discussion to be held with the participation of leading experts should prepare a draft of relevant regulations. Should develop a draft Plan of joint actions of China and Ukraine (Road map), which shall provide for the implementation of a number of measures of legal, economic, administrative and organizational nature, aimed at mutual promotion of investments. It is clear that the final decision should be made at the political level. Within the framework of boosting bilateral investment cooperation should provide tools for monitoring the investment interaction of the enterprises of China and Ukraine, including the possibility of efficiently solving the problems of Chinese investors in Ukraine. Appropriate beginning of the Summit (conference) high-level prospects for economic and humanitarian cooperation between Ukraine and China that could be performed annually or once in two years.

Biomass-based pellet is an important source of renewable energy. In this study, to obtain the high-quality fuel pellet via the densification of pruned branches of fruit trees, we investigated the optimization of blending ratios for different raw materials using branches from jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.), which is a widely distributed waste biomass resource in China. Through the characterization of raw materials and pellets, the effects of different raw materials on the storage, transportation, and combustion performances of the pellets can be understood. The cost evaluation analysis showed that the two optimized, co-densified pellets had great cost advantages compared with the pure jujube branch pellets. This indicates the potential industrial value of optimized pellets. The results of this study can help to improve the application value of orchard residues and generate an additional profit for fruit plantations, simultaneously avoiding the environmental damage caused by its open combustion.

Background: The efficacy of corticosteroids and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) in pediatric myocarditis remains controversial.Objectives: The authors performed a meta-analysis to assess the therapeutic efficacy of corticosteroids and IVIG in children with myocarditis.Methods: We retrieved the trials on corticosteroids and IVIG therapy, respectively, in pediatric myocarditis from nine databases up to December 2018. Statistical analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.3.Results: Our analysis included 8 studies and 334 pediatric patients. The data demonstrated that children receiving corticosteroids showed no significant improvement on left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) from 1 to 8 month-follow-up (MD = 5.17%, 95% CI = −0.26% to 10.60%, P = 0.06), and no significant improvement in death or heart transplantation incidence at the end of follow-up (OR = 1.33, 95% CI = 0.27–6.70, P = 0.73). However, children receiving IVIG revealed a statistically remarkable increase in LVEF at a follow-up over the course of 6 months to 1 year (MD = 18.91%, 95% CI = 11.74–26.08%, P < 0.00001), and a decrease in death or heart transplantation at the end of follow-up (OR = 0.31, 95% CI = 0.12–0.75, P = 0.01). Further comparisons showed that the mortality and heart transplantation rate of children with myocarditis treated with IVIG were significantly lower than those with corticosteroid therapy (t' = 11.336, P < 0.001).Conclusions: IVIG might be beneficial to improve LVEF and survival for myocarditis in children. However, the present evidence does not support corticosteroids as superior to conventional therapy in children with myocarditis. Further randomized controlled trials with a larger sample size are required.

Background: A large portion of previous studies that have demonstrated brain gray matter reduction in individuals who use methamphetamine (MA) have focused on short-term abstinence, but few studies have focused on the effects of long-term abstinence of methamphetamine on brain structures.Materials and Methods: Our study includes 40 healthy controls and 44 abstinent methamphetamine-dependent (AMD) subjects who have abstained for at least 14 months. For every AMD subject, the age when they first used MA, the total time of MA use, the frequency of MA use in the last month before abstinence, the duration of abstinence and the craving score were recorded. Here we used magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to measure the gray matter volume (GMV) of each subject with voxel-based morphometry method. Two-sample t-test (AlphaSim corrected) was performed to obtain brain regions with different gray matter volume (GMV) between groups. In addition, partial correlation coefficients adjusted for age, years of education, smoking, and drinking were calculated in the AMD group to assess associations between the mean GMV values in significant clusters and variables of MA use and abstinence.Results: Compared with the healthy control group, AMD group showed increased gray matter volumes in the bilateral cerebellum and decreased volumes in the right calcarine and right cuneus. Moreover, GMV of left cerebellum are positively correlated with the duration of abstinence in the AMD group (p = 0.040, r = 0.626).Conclusions: The present study showed that the gray matter volume in some brain regions is abnormal in the AMD subjects with long-term abstinence. Changes in gray matter volume of visual and cognitive function regions suggested that these areas play important roles in the progress of MA addiction and abstinence. In addition, positive correlation between GMV of the left cerebellum crus and duration of abstinence suggested that prolonged abstinence is beneficial to cognitive function recovery.

A flexible chassis (FC) is a type of electric vehicle driven by in-wheel motors that can be used in narrow conditions in agricultural facilities. The FC is composed primarily of four off-center steering mechanisms (OSMs) that can be controlled independently. Various FC operation modes can be achieved including cross motion (CM), in-place rotation (IR), diagonal motion (DM), and steering motion (SM). However, it is difficult to achieve satisfactory motion mode switching (MMS) results under traditional distribution control methodologies due to a lack of linkage relationships between the four OSMs. The goal of this study was to provide a coupling control method that can cope with this problem. First, dynamic MMS models were derived. Then, an MMS coupling error (CE) model was derived based on coupling control and Lyapunov stability theory. Second, a fuzzy proportional integral derivative (PID) controller with self-tuning parameters was designed to reduce the CE during MMS. A fuzzy PI controller was also employed to improve response times and decrease OSM tracking motion steady-state error. Finally, MATLAB/Simulink simulations were performed and experimentally validated on hard pavement. The results showed that the proposed methodology could effectively reduce CE and guarantee MMS control stability while substantially shortening response times. The proposed methodology is effective and feasible for FC MMS.

Abstract Background Keloids are currently challenging to treat because they recur after resection which may affect patients’ quality of life. At present, no universal consensus on treatment regimen has been established. Thus, finding new molecular mechanisms underlying keloid formation is imminent. This study aimed to explore the function of secreted protein acidic and cysteine rich (SPARC) on keloids and its behind exact mechanisms. Methods The expression of SPARC, p38γ, 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-biphosphatase 3 (PFKFB3), α-SMA, and Ki67 in patients with keloid and bleomycin (BLM)-induced fibrosis mice was assessed utilizing western blot, qRT-PCR, and immunohistochemical staining. After transfected with pcDNA-SPARC, si-SPARC-1#, si-SPARC-2#, and si-p38γ, and treated with glycolytic inhibitor (2-DG) or p38 inhibitor (SB203580), CCK-8, EdU, transwell, and western blot were utilized for assessing the proliferation, migration, and collagen production of keloid fibroblasts (KFs). Results SPARC, p38γ, and PFKFB3 were highly expressed in patients with keloid and BLM-induced fibrosis mice. SPARC promoted the proliferation, migration, and collagen production of KFs via inducing glycolysis. Moreover, SPARC could activate p38γ signaling to stabilize PFKFB3 protein expression in KFs. Next, we demonstrated that SPARC promoted the proliferation, migration, collagen production, and glycolysis of KFs via regulating p38γ signaling. In addition, in BLM-induced fibrosis mice, inhibition of p38γ and PFKFB3 relieved skin fibrosis. Conclusions Our findings indicated that SPARC could activate p38γ pathway to stabilize the expression of PFKFB3, and thus promote the glycolysis of KFs and the progression of keloid.

Abstract. Background:. The causal relationship between visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and gout is still unclear. We aimed to examine the potential association between them using observational and Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses. Methods:. In the observational analyses, a total of 11,967 participants (aged 39.5 ± 11.5 years) were included from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Logistic regression models were used to investigate the association between VAT mass and the risk of gout. In two-sample MR analyses, 211 VAT mass-related independent genetic variants (derived from genome-wide association studies in 325,153 UK biobank participants) were used as instrumental variables. The random-effects inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method was used as the primary analysis. Additional sensitivity analyses were also performed to validate our results. Results:. Observational analyses found that an increase in VAT mass (per standard deviation) was associated with a higher risk of gout after controlling for confounding factors (odds ratio [OR] = 1.27, 95% confidence intervals [CI] = 1.11–1.45). The two-sample MR analyses demonstrated a causal relationship between increased VAT mass and the risk of gout in primary analyses (OR = 1.78, 95% CI = 1.57–2.03). Sensitivity analyses also showed similar findings, including MR-Egger, weighted median, simple mode, weighted mode, and leave-one-out analyses. Conclusions:. Observational analyses showed a robust association of VAT mass with the risk of gout. Meanwhile, MR analyses also provided evidence of a causal relationship between them. In summary, our findings suggested that targeted interventions for VAT mass may be beneficial to prevent gout.

Background: Asthma, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and anthropometric measures are correlated complex traits that all have a major genetic component. Objective: To investigate the overlap in genetic variants associated with these complex traits. Methods: Using United Kingdom Biobank data, we performed univariate association analysis, fine-mapping, and mediation analysis to identify and dissect shared genomic regions associated with asthma, T2D, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC). Results: We found several genome-wide significant variants in and around the JAZF1 gene that are associated with asthma, T2D, or height with two of these variants shared by the three phenotypes. We also observed an association in this region with WC when adjusted for BMI. However, there was no association with WC when it was not adjusted for BMI or weight. Additionally, only suggestive associations between variants in this region and BMI were observed. Finemapping analyses suggested that within JAZF1 there are non-overlapping regions harboring causal susceptibility variants for asthma, T2D, and height. Mediation analyses supported the conclusion that these are independent associations. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that variants in the JAZF1 are associated with asthma, T2D, and height, but the associated causal variant(s) are different for each of the three phenotypes. Abstract Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are emerging as a promising alternative to conventional lithium-ion technology, due to the abundance of sodium resources. The major drawbacks for the commercial application of SIBs lie in the slow kinetic processes and poor energy density of the devices. Molybdenum sulfide (MoS2), a graphene-like material, is becoming a promising anode material for SIBs, because of its high theoretical capacity (670 mAh g–1) and layered structure that suitable for Na+ intercalation/extraction. However, the intrinsic properties of MoS2, such as low conductivity, slow Na+ diffusion kinetics and large volume change during charging/discharging, restrict its rate capability and cycle stability. Here, molybdenum disulfide and graphene oxide (3D MoS2/GO) with excellent conductivity were fabricated through layer-by-layer method using amino-functionalized SiO2 nanospheres as templates. The 3D MoS2/GO composite demonstrates excellent cycling stability and capacity of 525 mA h g–1 at 500 mA g–1 after 100 cycles, which mainly due to the integrated MoS2/GO components and unique 3D macroporous structure, facilitating the material conductivity and Na+ diffusion rate, while tolerating the volume expansion of MoS2 during the charge/discharge processes.

Abstract Background Orthodontic pain affects the physical and mental health of patients. The spinal trigeminal subnucleus caudalis (SPVC) contributes to the transmission of pain information and serves as a relay station for integrating orofacial damage information. Recently, glial cells have been found to be crucial for both acute and maintenance phases of pain. It has also been demonstrated that rho kinase (ROCK) inhibitors can manage different pain models by inhibiting glial cell activation. Here, we hypothesized that orthodontic pain is related to glial cells in the SPVC, and Fasudil, a representative rho/rock kinase inhibitor, can relieve orthodontic pain by regulating the function of glial cells and the related inflammatory factors. In this study, we constructed a rat model of tooth movement pain and used immunofluorescence staining to evaluate the activation of microglia and astrocytes. Quantitative real-time PCR was used to detect the release of related cytokines and the expression of pain-related genes in the SPVC. Simultaneously, we investigated the effect of Fasudil on the aforementioned indicators. Results In the SPVC, the expression of c-Fos peaked on day 1 along with the expression of OX42 (related to microglial activation), CD16 (a pro-inflammatory factor), and CD206 (an anti-inflammatory factor) on day 3 after tooth movement, followed by a gradual decrease. GFAP-staining showed that the number of activated astrocytes was the highest on day 5 and that cell morphology became complex. After Fasudil treatment, the expression of these proteins showed a downward trend. The mRNA levels of pro-inflammatory factors (IL-1β and TNF-α) peaked on day 3, and the mRNA expression of the anti-inflammatory factor TGF-β was the lowest 3 days after tooth movement. Fasudil inhibited the mRNA expression of pain-related genes encoding CSF-1, t-PA, CTSS, and BDNF. Conclusion This study shows that tooth movement can cause the activation of glial cells in SPVC, and ROCK inhibitor Fasudil can inhibit the activation of glial cells and reduce the expression of the related inflammatory factors. This study presents for the first time the potential application of Fasudil in othodontic pain.

BackgroundCupping therapy has been indicated effective in reducing muscle fatigue after 24 h based on the spectral analyses of surface electromyography (sEMG). However, there is no sufficient evidence showing changes of sEMG nonlinear indexes at more time points after cupping therapy. Furthermore, it is unclear whether the intervention timings of cupping therapy affect the recovery from muscle fatigue. The purpose of this study was to use the sEMG nonlinear analysis to assess the difference of time response of cupping therapy between different intervention timings after muscle fatigue.Materials and methodsThis randomized controlled trial recruited 26 healthy volunteers. Cupping therapy (−300 mmHg pressure for 5 min by the 45 mm-diameter cup) was applied before (i.e., pre-condition) or after (i.e., post-condition) muscle fatigue induced by performing repeated biceps curls at 75% of the 10 repetitions of maximum (RM) on the non-dominant upper extremity. Subjects were randomly allocated to the pre-condition group or the post-condition group. The sEMG signals during the maximal voluntary isometric contractions (MVC) of the biceps were recorded at four time points (i.e., baseline; post 1: immediate after cupping-fatigue/fatigue-cupping interventions; post 2: 3 h after cupping-fatigue/fatigue-cupping interventions; post 3: 6 h after cupping-fatigue/fatigue-cupping interventions). Two nonlinear sEMG indexes (sample entropy, SampEn; and percent determinism based on recurrence quantification analysis, %DET) were used to evaluate the recovery from exercise-introduced muscle fatigue. The Friedman test followed by the Nemenyi test and the Mann-Whitney U test were applied in statistics.ResultsThe SampEn and %DET change rate did not show any significant differences at four time points in the pre-condition group. However, there were significant delayed effects instead of immediate effects on improving muscle fatigue in the post-condition group (SampEn change rate: baseline 0.0000 ± 0.0000 vs. post 2 0.1105 ± 0.2253, p < 0.05; baseline 0.0000 ± 0.0000 vs. post 3 0.0627 ± 0.4665, p < 0.05; post 1–0.0321 ± 0.2668 vs. post 3 0.0627 ± 0.4665, p < 0.05; and %DET change rate: baseline 0.0000 ± 0.0000 vs. post 2–0.1240 ± 0.1357, p < 0.01; baseline 0.0000 ± 0.0000 vs. post 3 0.0704 ± 0.6495, p < 0.05; post 1 0.0700 ± 0.3819 vs. post 3 0.0704 ± 0.6495, p < 0.05). Moreover, the SampEn change rate of the post-condition group (0.1105 ± 0.2253) was significantly higher than that of the pre-condition group (0.0006 ± 0.0634, p < 0.05) at the post 2 time point. No more significant between-groups difference was found in this study.ConclusionThis is the first study demonstrating that both the pre-condition and post-condition of cupping therapy are useful for reducing muscle fatigue. The post-condition cupping therapy can e ffectively alleviate exercise-induced muscle fatigue and there is a significant delayed effect, especially 3 h after the interventions. Although the pre-condition cupping therapy can not significantly enhance muscle manifestations, it can recover muscles into a non-fatigued state.
