In recent years, the use of knowledge integration mechanisms (KIMs) has increasingly been considered a key factor to product innovation success. However, how KIMs affect new product performance remains unclear. This study argues that the effect of KIMs on new product performance is through the increase in knowledge integration capability (KIC). Moreover, based on information processing theory, this study argues that the effect of KIMs, through KIC, on new product performance varies with the level of product innovativeness. This study develops a new scale for measuring KIC based on Grant's (1996) definition. A sample of 194 manufacturing firms from Taiwan provides the data for this study. Regression results from a mediated moderation model show that KIC positively mediates the relationship between KIMs and new product performance and that this mediating effect is moderated by product innovativeness. The results further reveal that the mediating effect of KIC is stronger when firms develop less innovative products rather than highly innovative products. The endogenous growth issues for business-group affiliations draw growing attentions. This paper compares innovation outcomes in group-affiliated firms and that in standalones, and further tests the moderation effect of the potential improvement measures. Our results show that group-affiliated feature is positively related with product and process innovation, while negatively related with organizational innovation. Meanwhile, the positive effect on process innovation could be strengthened under high top manager experience or high local market-orientation and the negative effect on organizational innovation could be mitigated under high top manager experience as well. This study develops a contingency framework by drawing upon on the perspectives of resource-based view, stakeholder, and open innovation to investigate how and when market demand, environmental proactivity, and technology competence affect a firm¡¯s decision on the scope of eco-innovation. A sample composed of 1,717 service firms is utilized to test the hypotheses. A zero-truncated negative binomial approach is adopted to analyze the data. The results reveal that innovation openness plays a significant moderating role in the influence of proactivity and technology competence on the scope of eco-innovation. Specifically, environmental proactivity has a stronger effect on the scope of eco-innovation under high levels of search breadth and depth strategy. Moreover, technology competence has more influence on the scope of eco-innovation under a high level of search breadth. This study develops and tests hypotheses regarding the role of proactive environmental strategy on eco-innovation. Drawing upon contingency theory, this study further proposes such relationship vary with the levels of moderating factors. The sample used in this study is drawn from the community innovation survey of Taiwan. A logit moderating regression is used to analyze the models. This study reveals our empirical evidence and highlights the importance of corporate voluntary investment for the environment, which induces firms to pursue eco-innovation. This study also suggests that market demand and government subsidy play contingent roles in the relationships between proactive environmental strategy and eco-innovation. That is, information about market demand or government subsidy are all important to the environmental firms, which overcomes the incomplete information in technology development, especially in the context of green technology, thereby allowing them to acquire an early understanding of what works to improve their strategy-innovation processes. An increasing number of studies have suggested a relationship between organizations strategy for managing their business and the natural environment; however, no clear empirical evidence existed to prove that environmental innovation occurs because firms hold a proactive environmental policy. This study contributes to the existing literature by examining how proactive corporate environmental strategies affect different issues related to the environmental impact of eco-innovation. This study further uses contingency theory to argue that these relationships vary with the levels of moderating factors. The sample used in this study is drawn from the community innovation survey of Taiwan (TIS). A logit moderating regression method is used to analyze the models. The results show that firms with proactive environmental investments that meet social needs are more likely to engage in eco-innovation. The results further indicate that, under existing regulations, firms with proactive environmental strategies have a greater tendency to adopt eco-innovation. Such firms grasp and utilize this information to preempt eco-innovation to gain competitive advantages. Market demand also plays a critical role in moderating the relationship between proactive environmental strategies and eco-innovation. Our results indicate that although market demand may drive some firms to develop proactive environmental innovation strategies to secure customer benefits, firms do not make double investments in the same environmental issue.
