Meta-analysis is a statistical tool used to combine and synthesise the results of multiple independent studies on a particular topic. To this end, researchers isolate important moderators and mediators to investigate their influence on outcomes. This paper introduces a novel approach to meta-analysis, known as multidimensional meta-analysis (mi-MA), to study memory performance in those with obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD). Unlike traditional meta-analyses, mi-MA allows researchers to extract multiple data points (e.g., using different measures) from single studies and groups of participants, facilitating the exploration of relationships between various moderators while avoiding multicollinearity issues. Therefore, in the first instance, we outline the use of the mi-MA approach to quantify the impact of complex models of memory performance in individuals with OCD. This approach provides novel insights into the complex relationship between various factors affecting memory in people with OCD. By showcasing the effectiveness of mi-MA in analysing intricate data and modelling complex phenomena, the paper establishes it as a valuable tool for researchers exploring multifaceted phenomena, both within OCD research and beyond. Objective: The development of serious games for mental wellbeing is a topic of growing interest. The increase in acceptance of games as a mainstream entertainment medium combined with the immersive qualities of games provides opportunities for meaningful support and intervention in mental wellbeing. Method: We conducted a systematic review and exploratory meta‐analysis to examine if aspects of the interventions influenced outcomes as measured via overall effect sizes. We employed a multilevel meta‐analytic approach to accommodate the interdependency of effect sizes (18 effect sizes from 14 studies, with 2027 participants). Results: Overall, the main effect for gaming interventions on any outcome variable was small to medium sized, d =.35 (confidence interval [.23, 47], p <.001). Results revealed that the only significant moderator was the nature of the intervention. Specifically, only interventions that included a rational emotional behavioural focus significantly predicted an improvement in depression and/or anxiety in participants. Conclusion: The findings reveal promising effects for therapeutic games for mental health, but replications are needed, alongside the addressing of methodological and procedural concerns. Discourse genres of narrative and dialogue are integral to action learning approaches. Whilst an examination of dialogue as the mode of critical thinking, sense making and strategising has been thorough, we suggest that there has been scant attention paid to the role of narrative in action learning practices. In this paper the authors present a study of action learning in health care that spans a period of 15 years in professional, clinical and organisational settings. We aim to explore the significance of narrative in our lived experience of action learning, through our own stories and the stories created with others. We will show the relationship between individual and collective agency, the centrality of narrative and the significance of action learning in creating new narratives in organisational settings. Since the conception and exponential growth of social networking sites (SNSs), technology has advanced sufficiently to allow access to them at any moment for any reason. This has given users a "virtual space" (VS) in which to communicate and "live" within (e.g., Facebook), a space which disparate research has shown to have an impact on users' behaviors, thoughts, and emotions. The present study aimed to examine the potential for SNSs to influence the physical, mental, and social well-being of undergraduate students. To explore this in a unified fashion, we conducted in-depth interviews with 25 participants across three qualitative studies. All interview transcripts were analyzed using a recursive deductive thematic analysis. Lefebvre's trialectic of space was examined for its applicability to students' experiences of VS vis-à-vis SNSs. Lefebvre's spatial triad provides a novel and coherent framework to untangle and explain the multifaceted and often complicated nature of SNS use. Analysis found correspondence between Lefebvrian triadic space and SNSs to explain the pervasive, dominant, and sometimes pathological role that SNSs can have upon everyday functioning. Implications are that a Lefebvrian approach can inform future research as a means to untangle and explain the multifaceted and often complicated nature of SNS use. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Even though memory performance is a commonly researched aspect of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), a coherent and unified explanation of the role of specific cognitive factors has remained elusive. To address this, the present meta-analysis examined the predictive validity of Harkin and Kessler's (2011b) executive function, binding complexity, and memory load (EBL) Classification System concerning affected versus unaffected memory performance in OCD. We employed a multilevel meta-analytic approach (Viechtbauer, 2010) to accommodate the interdependent nature of the EBL model and interdependency of effect sizes (305 effect sizes from 144 studies, including 4,424 OCD patients). Results revealed that the EBL model predicted memory performance; that is, as EBL demand increases, those with OCD performed progressively worse on memory tasks. Executive function was the driving mechanism behind the EBL's impact on OCD memory performance, as it negated binding complexity, memory load, and visual or verbal task differences. Comparisons of subtask effect sizes were also generally in accord with the cognitive parameters of the EBL taxonomy. We conclude that standardized coding of tasks along individual cognitive dimensions and multilevel meta-analyses provides a new approach to examine multidimensional models of memory and cognitive performance in OCD and other disorders. The first extensive measurements of short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) in the atmosphere of the Southern Hemisphere are presented. The analytical and sampling methodologies used in this Australian study were verified by systematic testing along with two inter-comparisons with Northern Hemisphere laboratories with established SCCP programs. In the ambient atmosphere of Melbourne, Australia, in 2013-14, there was a clear seasonal cycle in SCCP monthly averaged concentrations, these ranging from 28.4 ng m-3 in summer to 1.8 ng m-3 in winter. Air temperature was the factor most closely related to the seasonal cycle in SCCPs in Melbourne. The average SCCP concentrations observed indoors were less than those observed outdoors. Atmospheric concentrations of SCCPs in Melbourne are more than two orders of magnitude higher than concentrations in the background atmosphere. Surprisingly, the SCCP concentrations in Melbourne are similar to those observed in cities in Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom, and less than those observed in China. Direct transport of SCCPs in the atmosphere from the Northern Hemisphere emissions to Melbourne is ruled out. Instead elevated concentrations in the Melbourne air-shed are most likely a result of the long-term import of SCCPs as industrial chemicals and within manufactured materials from the Northern Hemisphere so that the use of SCCPs in Melbourne and their consequent release to the environment has produced environmental reservoirs of SCCPs in Melbourne that are comparable with those in some Northern Hemisphere cities. The increase in SCCP concentrations from winter to summer is consistent with the temperature dependence of partitioning of SCCPs between the atmosphere and other reservoirs. Insufficient information exists on SCCP use and its presence in soils and sediments in Australia to indicate whether the atmospheric presence of SCCPs in Melbourne is a legacy issue due to its import and use as a metal cutting agent in past decades or due to ongoing imports of manufactured materials containing SCCPs today. Environmental context: Environmental context: This study presents the first comprehensive set of ambient atmospheric concentrations of short-chain-chlorinated paraffins in the Southern Hemisphere. The data show a seasonal cycle with a summer maximum and a winter minimum. The seasonal cycle is consistent with temperature dependence of the vapour pressure of the short-chain-chlorinated paraffins resulting in partitioning between the atmosphere and other reservoirs with a secondary modulation by soil moisture. Despite extensive coverage of a relationship between memory performance and executive function in the obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) literature, the relative contributions of specific aspects of executive control have remained elusive. We, therefore, extend our previous multilevel meta-analysis (Persson et al., 2021), where demand on executive function was the most significant determinant of memory deficits in OCD, and provide a finer-grained analysis of executive control via a segregation into top-down (attentional control, maintenance and updating, planning) and bottom-up (perceptual integration, perceptual salience) contributions. Our multilevel meta-analytic approach allowed us to accommodate the interdependency of 255 effect sizes from 131 studies, totaling 4,101 OCD patients. Results revealed that maintenance and updating (top-down) and perceptual integration (bottom-up) predicted memory performance generally, and specifically in those with clinical OCD. Exploratory analyses suggested that this effect may be somewhat different among subclinical OCD groups; however, these findings should be considered with conceptual and analytical caveats in mind. We explain these results via deficient sensory (perceptual integration) and working memory (maintenance and updating) gating mechanisms and propose a model to accommodate their expression in OC symptoms. In conclusion, our meta-analysis has expanded understanding of cognitive performance in OCD and identifies the possibility of untapped cognitive targets for intervention. General Scientific Summary: Deficits in executive function and memory are common in OCD. We identify and test two novel frameworks, top-down and bottom-up, to explain memory deficits in OCD using a multilevel meta-analysis. Phenyl β-D-galactopyranoside was found to be an efficient acceptor of L-[14C]fucose when guanosine diphosphate L-[14C]fucose was used as the donor substrate and human serum, submaxillary glands or stomach mucosa were the sources of L-fucosyltransferase. The enzyme utilising phenyl β-D-galactoside was present in the serum of donors of all ABO blood-groups examined, except those of the rare Oh (Bombay) and Bh phenotypes, but was clearly demonstrable in submaxillary gland preparations only when the glands came from individuals who were secretors of ABH blood-group substances. This distribution coincides with that previously established for the blood-group H gene-specified α-2-L-fucosyltransferase. The product of L-[14C]fucosyl transfer to phenyl β-D-galactoside is separable from the other radioactive components in the enzyme digest by chromatography for 4 h in ethyl acetate/pyridine/water (10/4/3, by vol.); it was characterised as phenyl 2-O-(α-L-[14C]fucopyranosyl)β-D-galactopyranoside by (a) the liberation of L-[14C]fucose by a specific α-2-L-fucosidase, (b) its resistance to degradation by alkali and (c) the identification of tritiated glycerol as a product of periodate oxidation alter a 3H label had been introduced into the galactosyl moiety. The use of phenyl β-o-galactopyranoside as acceptor substrate thus provides a simple and relatively rapid method for the assay of the blood-group H gene-specified α-2-L-fucosyltransferase. Inappropriate shocks were delivered to a patient while in sinus rhythm by an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) during routine prehospital discharge testing. This was induced by the standard programmer when the "read" telemetry sequence was initiated. The ICD was removed and found to suffer from electrical artifact that was sensed as ventricular tachycardia during telemetry. To avoid inadvertent telemetry-induced shocks during routine testing, all ICDs should be interrogated, using a standard programmer, intraoperatively, with the unit in "defibrilIation on" mode.
