Owing to their inherent flexibility and excellent biocompatibility, liquid metals (LMs) have been explored at the frontiers of clinical therapy. Herein, a LM and tanshinone IIA (TA) drugs were dispersed into sodium alginate (SA) solution by ultrasonication to prepare SA/LM/TA, which is an injectable biomaterial for stable drug release and intrapericardial injection for the treatment of myocardial infarction (MI). The SA/LM/TA has a low viscosity and can be injected smoothly using a syringe. In rat models of MI, we demonstrated that SA/LM/TA injection in the pericardial cavity is a biosafe and effective method to deliver a carrier containing LM particles and TA drugs for MI treatment. After injection, the drug release is slow and stable in the pericardial cavity, increasing the cardiac retention of drugs. After surgery and treatment for 7 days, the cardiac function of rats improved compared with the control group and the TA direct injection group. The intrapericardial injection of SA/LM/TA improves cardiac functions and mitigates cardiac remodeling post myocardial infarction of rats. Overall, the present study establishes a therapeutic strategy for treatment of myocardial infarction by intrapericardial injection of SA/LM/TA and expands the application categories of LM biomaterials in disease treatments. It was a systematic review and meta-analysis that aimed to compare the efficiency and safety of robot-assisted urological surgery using both the KangDuo and da Vinci robotic systems. The PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for all papers published through September 1, 2024. The focus was on English-language papers comparing the KangDuo surgical robot and the da Vinci system in urological procedures. The screening method focused on RCTs and cohort studies and followed strict criteria. Three cohort studies and two randomised controlled trials with 300 adult urological surgery patients met the inclusion criteria. These 150 patients were operated on with the KangDuo robotic system and 150 with the da Vinci system. The investigation showed that whereas KangDuo operations were slightly longer, intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, and postoperative complication rates were similar. The KangDuo robotic system performs urological surgery as well as the da Vinci system, although it takes longer. Future large-scale multicenter randomized trials are recommended to gather further evidence and enhance clinical understanding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Postoperative pain management has consistently been a critical topic in the medical field, with patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA) being one of the most commonly utilized methods for postoperative analgesia. Currently, opioids remain the primary choice for PCIA in clinical practice. However, in recent years, an increasing number of studies have explored analgesic strategies aimed at reducing or eliminating the use of opioids in PCIA to mitigate the associated side effects and dependence. Doping of polycyclic conjugated hydrocarbons (PCHs) with sulfur atoms is becoming more and more important as a means of creating unique functional materials. Recently, thiophene‐containing multiple helicenes have garnered enormous attention due to their intriguing electronic and (chir)optical properties compared with carbohelicenes. However, the efficient synthesis of thiopyran‐containing multiple helicenes and the underlying sulfur doping mechanisms are rather unexplored. Herein, the synthesis and structural analysis of a thiopyran‐containing double [7]helicene 3 are reported. X‐ray crystallographic analysis reveals 3 and its dication with C2‐symmetric propeller‐shape structures and compact interactions in the solid state. 3 exhibits deep‐red to near‐infrared (NIR) fluorescence emission. Tunable aromaticity of the central benzene ring and thiopyran rings is found by chemical oxidation, which is further confirmed by nucleus‐independent chemical shift (NICS), anisotropy of the induced current density (ACID) and harmonic oscillator model of aromaticity (HOMA) analysis. Furthermore, the chiral and photosensitizing characters of 3 are investigated. The excellent deep‐red to NIR fluorescence, circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) and photosensitizing activities suggest that 3 can be used as an outstanding photosensitizer in photodynamic therapy (PDT) and bioimaging, especially paving the way for future CPL‐PDT and CPL‐bio‐probe applications. Periodontitis is a significant independent risk factor for atherosclerosis. Yet, the exact mechanism of action is still not fully understood. In this study, we investigated the effect of exosomes‐miR‐155‐5p derived from periodontal endothelial cells on atherosclerosis in vitro and in vivo. Higher expression of miR‐155‐5p was detected in the plasma exosomes of patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) and carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) compared to patients with CP. Also, the expression level of miR‐155‐5p was associated with the severity of CP. miR‐155‐5p‐enriched exosomes from HUVECs increased the angiogenesis and permeability of HAECs and promoted the expression of angiogenesis, permeability, and inflammation genes. Along with the overexpression or inhibition of miR‐155‐5p, the biological effect of HUVECs‐derived exosomes on HAECs changed correspondingly. In ApoE−/− mouse models, miR‐155‐5p‐enriched exosomes promoted the occurrence of carotid atherosclerosis by increasing permeable and angiogenic activity. Collectively, these findings highlight a molecular mechanism of periodontitis in CAS, uncovering exosomal miR‐155‐5p derived periodontitis affecting carotid endothelial cells in an 'exosomecrine' manner. Embodied cognition posits that processing concepts requires sensorimotor activation. Previous research has shown that perceived power is spatially embodied along the vertical axis. However, it is unclear whether such mapping applies equally in the two languages of bilinguals. Using event‐related potentials, we compared spatial embodiment correlates in participants reporting the source of auditory words as being presented from above or below their sitting position. English bilinguals responded faster for congruent presentations of high‐power words (presented above) but not for congruent presentations of low‐power words (presented below) in both languages. Low‐power words together also failed to modulate N400 amplitude or interact with language. However, follow‐up analyses on high‐power words showed congruency effects on N400 amplitude in Chinese but not in English. Finally, English controls showed no effect. This suggests that spatial embodiment differs across languages in bilinguals, but the roles of culture and proficiency require further research. Background: Previous investigations have shown a positive relationship between baseball pitching velocity and the kinetic chain involved in pitching motion. However, no study has examined the influence of finger characteristics on pitching velocity and rate of spin via a sensor-embedded baseball. Methods: Twenty-one pitchers volunteered and were recruited for this study. An experimental baseball embedded with a force sensor and an inertial measurement unit was designed for pitching performance measurement. Finger length and strength were measured as dependent variables. Spin rate and velocity were independent variables. Pearson product–moment correlations (r) and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) determined the relationship between finger characteristics and pitching performance. Results: Finger length discrepancy, two-point pinch strength, index finger RFD (rate of force development), middle finger impulse, and force discrepancy had significant correlations with spin rate (r = 0.500~0.576, p ≤ 0.05). Finger length discrepancy, two-point pinch, three-point pinch strength, index and middle finger RFD, middle finger impulse, and force combination had significant correlations with fastball pitching velocity (r = 0.491~0.584, p ≤ 0.05). Conclusions: Finger length discrepancy, finger pinch strength, and pitching finger force including maximal force and RFD may be factors that impact fastball spin rate and fastball pitching velocity. Bat–ball contacts are critical in the baseball hitting process. However, an effective training method for increasing the impact perception of a bat–ball contact is currently unavailable. Although not widely used, hitting a stationary weighted baseball can be an appropriate method for batters to simulate the perception of hitting a moving baseball. Therefore, swing velocity, wrist vibration, and forearm muscle activation for hitting stationary weighted, stationary regulation, and pitched baseballs were investigated in this study. Twelve position players hit a stationary weighted, stationary regulation, and pitched baseball at a speed of 70.28 ± 3.84 km/h in a random order. The swing velocity, wrist vibration, forearm muscle activation, and co-contraction ratio during hitting phases were analysed. The results indicated that the swing velocity during each specific phase demonstrated no significant differences between the different conditions. Hitting weighted and pitched baseballs caused higher wrist vibration, muscle activation, and co-contraction ratio during the contact phase than hitting regulation balls (p < 0.05). The conclusion was that hitting weighted baseballs could mimic the impact condition of hitting pitched baseballs without changing the pattern of swing velocity, which suggested that this method has potential as a hitting drill for improving hitting perception at bat–ball contact. Visible-light-induced EDA complex-promoted ring-opening of cycloketone oxime esters to synthesise various cyanoalkylated products with N-methacryloyl benzamides was developed. Various radical receptors were compatible with the current reaction system to furnish diverse heterocyclic compounds. Mechanistic analysis shows that the formation of an EDA complex was crucial to the photocatalytic strategy. Importantly, 4-cyanoalkyl isoquinoline-1,3-diones were obtained in high yields by using a catalytic amount of 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) through prolonging the reaction time, which provided a practical approach to give a variety of isoquinoline-1,3-dione derivatives. Dielectric resonators (DRs) are widely investigated and applied due to the high Q‐factor feature. Their frequency agility is desperately needed in modern communication systems. In this letter, we propose a novel tuning method for DRs using top‐loaded rotatable anisotropic metasurface, instead of the traditional mechanical tuning structures or electrical switches. The effective permittivity of the anisotropic metasurface varies with the E‐field direction of the incident wave. We can tune the resonate frequency by rotating the metasurface placed on the top of the DR. To demonstrate the feasibility of this method, a tunable DR with the anisotropic metasurface printed on a thin substrate is designed, fabricated, and measured. With a compact profile, the prototype provides a wide tuning range of 8.4% from 4.80 to 5.22 GHz and a Q‐factor higher than 1098. Outdoor fitness equipment (OFE) is installed in parks to promote health, particularly among seniors. However, no quantitative study has investigated its effectiveness. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effectiveness of 12 weeks of OFE training on functional fitness in seniors. Forty-two active seniors were recruited and randomly assigned into OFE and control groups. The OFE group underwent 12 weeks of training using popular OFE for cardiorespiratory function, flexibility, and strength, whereas participants in the control group were asked to maintain their previous lifestyles. The senior fitness test was assessed before and after the 12-week period. Unexpectedly, the results showed no significant improvement within or between the groups after the 12-week training in all parameters (p >.05). In conclusion, the 12-week OFE training failed to enhance functional fitness among active seniors. The estimated prevalence of anti-HCV was 3.1% in Taiwan. Studies have shown iatrogenic behavior was the major transmission route. It is highest in specific populations including patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD), human immunodeficiency virus infection, who inject drug (PWID), and under opioid substitution treatment. Approximately 405,160 patients were seropositive for HCV RNA and in need of treatment. Taiwan government claims to reach WHO's 2030 goal of HCV elimination by 2025 and works hard to resolve several barriers of HCV elimination including political commitment, sustainable financing, minimize reimbursement restrictions, instituted monitoring, and perform micro-elimination of specific populations. The last stage of HCV elimination is to accelerate the universal HCV screening program of populations aged 45-79 years and resolve the unawareness issue of HCV infection. Efforts to advance health technology assessment (HTA) in Taiwan have aimed to optimize the allocation of National Health Insurance (NHI) resources. This study documents and analyzes the historical timeline of Taiwan's efforts in HTA, identifying areas to advance the HTA system, such as gaining broad stakeholder acceptance. We document ambitious plans to establish a larger, independent HTA center and how these plans did not materialize. The historical timeline also describes the primary focus of HTA shifting to serve the needs of decision-making authorities and committees. We argue that these changes resulted in growth of the HTA system, but also led to significant external criticism and potential compromise of its foundational principles. The inability to create a national HTA center can be attributed to several factors, including an immature ecosystem of HTA-Policy-Patient-Provider-Academic collaboration, a lack of a supportive culture, and challenging political and economic conditions. Nevertheless, if effectively managed, Taiwan's current HTA system could play a crucial role in rational decision-making, informed choices, and efficient NHI resource management. We argue that greater autonomy is crucial for enhancing financial sustainability and protecting against external influences to ensure objective and credible assessments. In this article, a concept of partial structure reuse is presented, and on this basis, a 3.5/28 GHz shared-aperture antenna supporting 2-D (endfire and broadside) steerable beams in the millimeter-wave (MMW) band is developed. The antenna consists of a 3.5 GHz planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) and two 1 $\times $ 6 28 GHz substrate-integrated DRA (SIDRA) beam-steerable arrays, in which partial structures of the PIFA are reused by the two MMW arrays. To improve the performance of PIFA, two narrow slots and one lumped capacitor are introduced to reduce its H-plane cross-polarization and enhance the operating bandwidth, respectively. To verify the design, antenna prototypes were fabricated and measured. Measured results show that the antenna can cover a dual-band of 3.28–3.67 (11.2%) and 26–29.7 (13.2%) for the endfire and 25.9–29.7 GHz (13.8%) for the broadside. The peak gains of 4.8 and 10 (endfire) and 10.8 dBi (broadside) are obtained by the MW element and two 1 $\times $ 4 MMW arrays, respectively. Each of the MMW arrays can steer the beams from − 50° to + 50°, covering different parts of the space. The shared-aperture antenna has a compact size of 0.45 $\times $ 0.3 $\times \,\,0.03\lambda _{01}^{3}$ ($\lambda _{01}$ is the free-space wavelength at 3.5 GHz), making it suitable for terminal applications. A high-efficiency dual-band dielectric filtering antenna based on three parallel placed dense dielectric strip resonators (DDSRs) is proposed for the self-filtering property. That means both the filtering responses of the two bands are only determined by the three DDSRs themselves without extra filtering circuits. The even-mode coupling of the TM1δ mode (TM3δ mode) between the middle and two-sided DDSRs is used to form the first (second) radiation band, while the odd-mode coupling contributes one radiation null at the upper edge of each radiation band. Therefore, the proposed dual-band dielectric antenna exhibits relatively high total efficiency benefited from the self-filtering characteristic. Additionally, the presented one without extra filtering circuits obtains the features of low profile, enhanced bandwidth, and gain. For test and verify, a prototype was measured at 7.7 and 13.35 GHz with the fractional bandwidths of 11.4% and 4.8%, the peak gains of 7.65 and 10.5 dBi, and the total efficiencies of 89% and 87%, respectively. A novel pattern-reconfigurable dielectric resonator (DR) antenna with endfire beam-scanning feature is proposed in this letter. The proposed antenna consists of a DR, a switchable director with 10 p-i-n diodes, and a differential feeding structure. The differential-fed DR operating in TE01δ mode can provide a primary endfire pattern with wide beam. Based on this, a large-coverage beam-scanning performance can be obtained by introducing a switchable director placed in front of the DR. A prototype is fabricated and measured to verify the proposed design. By switching the p-i-n diodes of the switchable director, the proposed antenna enables a near-continuous beam scanning from −48° to +48° in the azimuth plane with a gain fluctuation of less than 0.5 dB. Besides, the 3 dB scanning coverage is up to 164° (from −82° to +82°), which shows good beam-scanning performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This letter presents a simple and effective self-decoupling method for dielectric patch (DP) antenna (DPA) by choosing proper structural parameters, without adding extra components. By theoretical analysis, the attenuation constant of the employed fundamental TM01 mode outside the DP is controlled by the structural parameters of the DP resonator, which is crucial for the decoupling between the two adjacent DPAs. It is found that the larger the attenuation constant of the TM01 mode, the better the port-to-port isolation in broadband, and then the radiation pattern can be stabilized. Under the premise of satisfactory isolation, the operational bandwidth and boresight gain of the DPA are studied for ensuring good antenna performance, exhibiting high design freedom and flexibility of the DPA. Five new α-pyrones, xylariaopyrones E–I (1–5), along with three known analogues (6–8) were isolated from the cultivation broth of the endophytic fungus Xylariales sp. (HM-1). The structures of the new compounds including their absolute configurations were elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic methods and quantum ECD calculations. Xylariaopyrone E (1) is the first example of α-pyrone derivative with a novel [3, 2, 0] bridge ring system via a ketal function group in the side chain. In bioactivity assays, xylariaopyrones E–G (1–3) showed moderate inhibiting activities against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa with MIC values from 25.4 to 64.5 μg/mL, whereras xylariaopyrone G (3) exhibited significant inhibition of monoamine oxidase B with an IC50 value of 15.6 μmol/L. Xylariaopyrone H (4) and the known compound 7 showed moderate toxicity against brine shrimp larvae with inhibition rates of 42.8% and 44.5%, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The shared aperture antenna is regarded as one of the promising approaches to support new frequencies with very efficient space utilization. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, there are few shared aperture antennas that include both the sub-6 GHz antenna and the millimeter-wave (mm-wave) beam-steering array for broadside applications. In this article, a broadside sharing aperture technique is developed so that a 2 $\times4\,\,26$ GHz beam-steering substrate-integrated DRA (SIDRA) array can be integrated into a 3.5 GHz bandwidth enhanced perforated patch antenna in a coplanar and aperture-shared way. The proposed solution benefits from several aspects. First, the 3.5 GHz antenna features a compact size as this part is built on the substrate (where the mm-wave SIDRA is constructed) with a high permittivity. Second, the mm-wave SIDRA is a 3-D-type device, and in the case of coplanar integration, its height can be freely adapted to the thickness of 3.5 GHz antenna without concerning the impact from surface waves as many 2-D-type antennas have to do. Third, the antenna can be implemented with the multi-layer printed circuit board (PCB) process, yielding a high integrity level. The dual-frequency antenna was designed, fabricated, and measured. To evaluate the current situation and associated factors of informational support for older adults with chronic diseases in transitional care. Study was conducted in five hospitals of five different cities in Jiangsu Province, China. A random cluster sample of 800 older adults with chronic diseases responded to the informational support questionnaire of transitional care survey. Descriptive analysis, t -tests, variance analysis, and stepwise multiple linear regression were used to analyze data. The STROBE statement for observational studies was applied. Total score of ISQTC for older adults with chronic diseases was (44.05 ± 17.21). Marital status, educational level, past occupation, close friends, medical insurance, complications, and exercise habits were significantly correlated with informational support. The level of informational support in transitional care for older adults with chronic diseases was low. Clinical staff should periodically and primarily assess their informational support, help find information resources for those who have low initial informational support, and identify which information they preferred to carry out accurate transitional care. This brief presents a new kind of adjustable dielectric waveguide resonator (DWR), based on which integrated designs of filtering circuits are conducted. The DWR is composed of a dielectric part as the main resonating body and a printed circuit board (PCB) part as the cover. An unmetallized blind hole is carved at the upper surface of the dielectric part. A tuning screw is installed on the PCB and inserted into the unmetallized blind hole to adjust the resonant frequency the DWR. This adjusting method is flexible and reversible. By using the proposed adjustable DWR, a fourth-order bandpass filter (BPF) is designed, fabricated and measured. The measured results show that the BPF is with an in-band insertion loss of 0.8 dB and an in-band return loss better than 19 dB. A capacitive cross coupling structure is constructed on the PCB so that two transmission zeros are introduced close to the passband to improve the filtering selectivity. In addition, a Wilkinson power divider is realized on the PCB and integrated with the above BPF, forming a filtering power divider. The measured in-band insertion loss of the filtering power divider is 1.1 dB. The isolation is better than 24 dB and the maximum phase imbalance is 1° in the passband. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Protein fluorescence reporting systems are of crucial importance to in-depth life science research, providing systematic labeling tools for visualization of microscopic biological activities in vivo and revolutionizing basic research. Cotton somatic cell regeneration efficiency is low, causing difficulty in cotton transformation. It is conducive to screening transgenic somatic embryo using the fluorescence reporting system. However, available fluorescence labeling systems in cotton are currently limited. To optimize the fluorescence reporting system of cotton with an expanded range of available fluorescent proteins, we selected 11 fluorescent proteins covering red, green, yellow, and cyan fluorescence colors and expressed them in cotton. Besides mRuby2 and G3GFP, the other nine fluorescent proteins (mCherry, tdTomato, sfGFP, Clover, EYFP, YPet, mVenus, mCerulean, and ECFP) were stably and intensely expressed in transgenic callus and embryo, and inherited in different cotton organs derive from the screened embryo. In addition, transgenic cotton expressing tdTomato appears pink under white light, not only for callus and embryo tissues but also various organs of mature plants, providing a visual marker in the cotton genetic transformation process, accelerating the evaluation of transgenic events. Further, we constructed transgenic cotton expressing mCherry-labeled organelle markers in vivo that cover seven specific subcellular compartments: plasma membrane, endoplasmic reticulum, tonoplast, mitochondrion, plastid, Golgi apparatus, and peroxisome. We also provide a simple and highly efficient strategy to quickly determine the subcellular localization of uncharacterized proteins in cotton cells using organelle markers. Lastly, we built the first cotton stomatal fluorescence reporting system using stomata-specific expression promoters (ProKST1, ProGbSLSP, and ProGC1) to drive Clover expression. The optimized fluorescence labeling system for transgenic somatic embryo screening and functional gene labeling in this study offers the potential to accelerating somatic cell regeneration efficiency and the in vivo monitoring of diverse cellular processes in cotton. A low‐loss filtering switch by using the dielectric waveguide resonators (DWRs) is proposed. It is composed of a dielectric part and a printed circuit board (PCB) part, which are electrically connected by soldering. The filtering function is mainly implemented by the coupled DWRs and the switching function is realized on the PCB by simply changing the resonant frequency of the DWR. A fourth‐order filtering switch, in which two DWRs are designed to be switchable, is designed for verification. When the PIN diodes are turned off, the filtering switch is on and an excellent bandpass response is obtained. No extra loss is caused by the off‐state PIN diodes. When the PIN diodes are turned on, the resonant frequencies of the two switchable DWRs are moved away so that the filtering switch is off. Then, the designed filtering switch is fabricated and measured. The simulated and measured results exhibit excellent accordance. In on‐state measurement, the passband is from 3.5 to 3.6 GHz and the in‐band insertion loss is as low as 0.8 dB. The performance of a low-profile dielectric resonator (DR) antenna (DRA) is hardly maintained across a wide frequency range due to the multiple higher-order modes. In this letter, a low-profile and broadband DRA is proposed with stable broadside radiation over a wide range of frequencies. A detailed analysis of the excited modes is conducted to identify proper modes for broadband operation. Different air regions are then introduced in the top layer of the proposed DRA. This allows the excitation of the higher-order DR modes with broadside radiation while suppressing the unwanted off-boresight modes. To validate the design, the DRA is developed to cover the frequency range of 3.25–6.1 GHz for potential 5G applications. The fabricated prototype is measured showing a broad bandwidth of ∼64.2%, a peak antenna gain of ∼9 dBi, and a low profile of only ∼0.07λ0. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
