The superconductivity confined in a two-dimensional interface exhibits many exotic phenomena that have certain counterparts in layered cuprates and iron-based superconductors, and thus provides rare opportunities to reveal the mystery of high temperature superconductivity therein. By constructing and tailoring hybrid heterostructures such as FeSe/$\mathrm{SrTiO}_3$ (FeSe/STO), interface-enhanced superconductivity arouses, and the substrate has been demonstrated to provide the phonons and enhance the strong electron–phonon coupling (EPC) within monolayer FeSe. More research and reporting systems uncover that the band-bending induced charge transfer at the interface could become a unified microscopic picture to design the new interface superconductors. With re-examination of the experimental research in $\mathrm{LaAlO}_3$/STO (LAO/STO) and unconventional superconductors, the common characteristics such as band bending and rigid band shift are perceived in the FeSe/STO, LAO/STO and cuprate superconductors. This review may provide important information to inspect the mechanism of high-$T_c$ superconductivity from a different view.

Bismuth-based binary alloy β-Bi2Pd has recently been suggested as a connate topological superconductor with immense promise for Majorana zero modes. However, the epitaxial thin films down to the ultimate level of single unit-cell have been challenging. Here, we employed the state-of-the-art molecular beam epitaxy to prepare single unit-cell superconducting β-Bi2Pd films with lateral dimensions of hundreds of nanometers. Utilizing in situ scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy, we uncover evidence of anisotropic superconductivity whose spectra are well fit by anisotropic s-wave gap functions and demonstrate that the epitaxial growth of β-Bi2Pd films relies substantially on the substrate temperature, flux ratio, growth rate, and coverage. Vortices in superconductors can help identify emergent phenomena but certain fundamental aspects of vortices, such as their entropy, remain poorly understood. Here, we study the vortex entropy in underdoped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x by measuring both magneto-resistivity and Nernst effect on ultrathin flakes (≤2 unit-cell). We extract the London penetration depth from the magneto-transport measurements on samples with different doping levels. It reveals that the superfluid phase stiffness ρs scales linearly with the superconducting transition temperature Tc, down to the extremely underdoped case. On the same batch of ultrathin flakes, we measure the Nernst effect via on-chip thermometry. Together, we obtain the vortex entropy and find that it decays exponentially with Tc or ρs. We further analyze the Nernst signal above Tc in the framework of Gaussian superconducting fluctuations. The combination of electrical and thermoelectric measurements in the two-dimensional limit provides fresh insight into high temperature superconductivity. We demonstrate fluorine intercalation into Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x (BSCCO) flakes, as thick as 100 nm, by back-gating a single crystalline LaF3 substrate. Element-sensitive analysis not only confirms the presence of fluorine in BSCCO after gating but also reveals lateral diffusion of fluorine in BSCCO. Transport measurements further demonstrate the hole-doping effect of fluoride ions in BSCCO through effective modulation of the superconducting transitions. Our work introduces a distinct type of ions (F−) that can be intercalated into materials via solid state back-gating. It broadens the toolbox of ion back-gating and is useful for addressing exotic phenomena in the heavily hole doped regime. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Superconductivity transition temperature (T c) marks the inception of a macroscopic quantum phase-coherent paired state in fermionic systems. For 2D superconductivity, the paired electrons condense into a coherent superfluid state at T c, which is usually lower than the pairing temperature, between which intrinsic physics including Berezinskii–Kosterlitz–Thouless transition and pseudogap state are hotly debated. In the case of monolayer FeSe superconducting films on SrTiO3(001), although the pairing temperature (T p) is revealed to be 65–83 K by using spectroscopy characterization, the measured zero-resistance temperature (⁠|${{T}}_{{\rm c}}^0$|⁠) is limited to 20 K. Here, we report significantly enhanced superconductivity in monolayer FeSe films by δ-doping of Eu or Al on SrTiO3(001) surface, in which |${{T}}_{{\rm c}}^0$| is enhanced by 12 K with a narrowed transition width Δ T c ∼ 8 K, compared with non-doped samples. Using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy measurements, we demonstrate lowered work function of the δ-doped SrTiO3(001) surface and enlarged superconducting gaps in the monolayer FeSe with improved morphology/electronic homogeneity. The intrinsic magnetic topological insulator MnBi2Te4 provides a feasible pathway to the high-temperature quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect as well as various novel topological quantum phases. Although quantized transport properties have been observed in exfoliated MnBi2Te4 thin flakes, it remains a big challenge to achieve molecular beam epitaxy (MBE)-grown MnBi2Te4 thin films even close to the quantized regime. In this work, we report the realization of quantized anomalous Hall resistivity in MBE-grown MnBi2Te4 thin films with the chemical potential tuned by both controlled in situ oxygen exposure and top gating. We find that elongated post-annealing obviously elevates the temperature to achieve quantization of the Hall resistivity, but also increases the residual longitudinal resistivity, indicating a picture of high-quality QAH puddles weakly coupled by tunnel barriers. These results help to clarify the puzzles in previous experimental studies on MnBi2Te4 and to find a way out of the big difficulty in obtaining MnBi2Te4 samples showing quantized transport properties. Josephson tunneling in twisted cuprate junctions provides a litmus test for the pairing symmetry, which is fundamental for understanding the microscopic mechanism of high temperature superconductivity. This issue is rekindled by experimental advances in van der Waals stacking and the proposal of an emergent d+id-wave. So far, all experiments have been carried out on Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x (Bi-2212) with double CuO2 planes but show controversial results. Here, we investigate junctions made of Bi2Sr2-xLaxCuO6+y (Bi-2201) with single CuO2 planes. Our on-site cold stacking technique ensures uncompromised crystalline quality and stoichiometry at the interface. Junctions with carefully calibrated twist angles around 45° show strong Josephson tunneling and conventional temperature dependence. Furthermore, we observe standard Fraunhofer diffraction patterns and integer Fiske steps in a junction with a twist angle of 45.0±0.2°. Together, these results pose strong constraints on the d or d+id-wave pairing and suggest an indispensable isotropic pairing component.
