Abstract

Lithium tantalate crystals, as a type of pyroelectric material, stand out from many other pyroelectric materials due to the advantages of high Curie temperature, large pyroelectric coefficient, high figure of merits, and environmental friendliness. Due to the pyroelectric effect caused by their spontaneous polarization, lithium tantalate crystals have broad application prospects in wide spectral bandwidth and uncooled pyroelectric detectors. This article reviews the pyroelectric properties of lithium tantalate crystals and evaluates methods for pyroelectric properties, methods for modulating pyroelectric properties, and pyroelectric detectors and their applications. The prospects of lithium tantalate thin films, doped lithium tantalate crystals, and near stoichiometric lithium tantalate crystals as response components for pyroelectric detectors are also discussed. Abstract

Near-stoichiometric lithium tantalate (NSLT) wafers with different Li contents were prepared by vapour transfer equilibrium (VTE) method and fabricated into surface acoustic wave filters. The temperature coefficient of frequency, insertion loss, and bandwidth of the surface acoustic wave filters were tested using a special chip test bench and a network analyzer. The results show that the temperature coefficient of frequency shows a trend of first decreasing and then increasing with the increase in Li content, and the temperature stability of the surface acoustic wave filters is best when the Li content is 49.75%. It is also found that the surface acoustic wave filter fabricated from NSLT wafers has 21.18% lower temperature coefficient of frequency, 7.3% lower insertion loss, and 2.8% lower bandwidth than those fabricated from congruent lithium tantalate wafers. Therefore, NSLT crystals are more suitable for applications in acoustic devices, providing a new idea for performance enhancement of 5G communication devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The paradigm of large-scale pre-training followed by downstream fine-tuning has been widely employed in various object detection algorithms. In this paper, we reveal discrepancies in data, model, and task between the pre-training and fine-tuning procedure in existing practices, which implicitly limit the detector's performance, generalization ability, and convergence speed. To this end, we propose AlignDet, a unified pre-training framework that can be adapted to various existing detectors to alleviate the discrepancies. AlignDet decouples the pre-training process into two stages, i.e., image-domain and box-domain pre-training. The image-domain pre-training optimizes the detection backbone to capture holistic visual abstraction, and box-domain pre-training learns instance-level semantics and task-aware concepts to initialize the parts out of the backbone. By incorporating the self-supervised pre-trained backbones, we can pre-train all modules for various detectors in an unsupervised paradigm. As depicted in Figure 1, extensive experiments demonstrate that AlignDet can achieve significant improvements across diverse protocols, such as detection algorithm, model backbone, data setting, and training schedule. Abstract

Post-training quantization (PTQ) is widely regarded as one of the most efficient compression methods practically, benefitting from its data privacy and low computation costs. We argue that an overlooked problem of oscillation is in the PTQ methods. In this paper, we take the initiative to explore and present a theoretical proof to explain why such a problem is essential in PTQ. And then, we try to solve this problem by introducing a principled and generalized framework theoretically. In particular, we first formulate the oscillation in PTQ and prove the problem is caused by the difference in module capacity. To this end, we define the module capacity (ModCap) under data-dependent and data-free scenarios, where the differentials between adjacent modules are used to measure the degree of oscillation. The problem is then solved by selecting top-k differentials, in which the corresponding modules are jointly optimized and quantized. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method successfully reduces the performance drop and is generalized to different neural networks and PTQ methods. For example, with 2/4 bit ResNet-50 quantization, our method surpasses the previous state-of-the-art method by 1.9%. Abstract

This thesis is a study of the theory of quality assurance in fire safety engineering. The aims are to examine the implication of the general concepts of quality and quality assurance in the context of fire safety engineering, to investigate the causes and effects of the development of quality assurance in fire safety engineering firms, and to identify the factors that affect the effectiveness of the quality systems in these firms. Research was carried out on four major perspectives: (1) quality definition of fire safety systems in buildings (2) quality assurance in fire safety engineering projects, (3) quality assurance in fire safety engineering firms, (4) the macro quality assurance system in fire protection industry. A model for defining quality of fire safety systems in buildings is described. Features of quality assurance in fire safety engineering are identified. A systematic approach for assuring quality in fire safety engineering projects is proposed, which consists of total system quality planning, sub-system quality planning, and quality management systems in fire safety engineering firms. The investigation found that the driving forces for fire safety engineering firms to adopt quality assurance come from client's need, market competition, development of certification schemes, and the business development strategy of the company. Research data suggests that fire safety engineering firms have gained benefits through the implementation of quality assurance. However, the effectiveness of quality systems is affected by a number of factors both internal and external.

Abstract

Lithium tantalate (LiTaO3, or LT) crystal is widely used in optical applications, infrared detection, and acoustic surface wave devices because of its excellent piezoelectric, pyroelectric, and nonlinear optical properties. In this paper, we discuss the defect structure of LT; the preparation method for LT; the influence of doping on LT; and LT's application in optical, acoustic, and electrical devices. We mainly analyzed the structure and physical properties of LT crystal, the preparation of LT crystal and LT thin films, the periodic polarization of LT crystal, the reduction of LT wafers, and the application potential of LT crystals in lasers and acoustic surface filters according to the most recent research. We also provide an overview of future research directions for LT in the fields of acoustics, optics, and other fields. Abstract

Lithium tantalate crystal is widely used in optical devices, infrared detectors and surface acoustic wave devices because of its excellent piezoelectric, acousto-optic and nonlinear optical properties. The Li content of near stoichiometric lithium tantalate (NSLT) crystal is higher than that of congruent lithium tantalate (CLT) crystal. Therefore, the performance of NSLT crystal is better than that of CLT crystal in some aspects. This article reviews the physical properties, preparation methods and current research status in acoustics and optics of NSLT crystals. It also looks forward to the improvement of NSLT crystal preparation methods and their applications in surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters and optics. With the increase of Li content, the acoustic performance of NSLT crystals is expected to be comprehensively improved, achieving the application of SAW filters in 5G communication. Abstract

Recently, Transformer networks have achieved impressive results on a variety of vision tasks. However, most of them are computationally expensive and not suitable for real-world mobile applications. In this work, we present Mobile Convolutional Vision Transformer (MoCoViT), which improves in performance and efficiency by introducing transformer into mobile convolutional networks to leverage the benefits of both architectures. Different from recent works on vision transformer, the mobile transformer block in MoCoViT is carefully designed for mobile devices and is very lightweight, accomplished through two primary modifications: the Mobile Self-Attention (MoSA) module and the Mobile Feed Forward Network (MoFFN). MoSA simplifies the calculation of the attention map through Branch Sharing scheme while MoFFN serves as a mobile version of MLP in the transformer, further reducing the computation by a large margin. Comprehensive experiments verify that our proposed MoCoViT family outperform state-of-the-art portable CNNs and transformer neural architectures on various vision tasks. On ImageNet classification, it achieves 74.5% top-1 accuracy at 147M FLOPs, gaining 1.2% over MobileNetV3 with less computations. And on the COCO object detection task, MoCoViT outperforms GhostNet by 2.1 AP in RetinaNet framework., After evaluation, the relevant technical details are temporarily inconvenient to be disclosed, so the manuscript is temporarily withdrawn. 35. SepViT: Separable Vision Transformer

Abstract

Vision Transformers have witnessed prevailing success in a series of vision tasks. However, these Transformers often rely on extensive computational costs to achieve high performance, which is burdensome to deploy on resource-constrained devices. To alleviate this issue, we draw lessons from depthwise separable convolution and imitate its ideology to design an efficient Transformer backbone, i.e., Separable Vision Transformer, abbreviated as SepViT. SepViT helps to carry out the local-global information interaction within and among the windows in sequential order via a depthwise separable self-attention. The novel window token embedding and grouped self-attention are employed to compute the attention relationship among windows with negligible cost and establish long-range visual interactions across multiple windows, respectively. Extensive experiments on general-purpose vision benchmarks demonstrate that SepViT can achieve a state-of-the-art trade-off between performance and latency. Among them, SepViT achieves 84.2% top-1 accuracy on ImageNet-1K classification while decreasing the latency by 40%, compared to the ones with similar accuracy (e.g., CSWin). Furthermore, SepViT achieves 51.0% mIoU on ADE20K semantic segmentation task, 47.9 AP on the RetinaNet-based COCO detection task, 49.4 box AP and 44.6 mask AP on Mask R-CNN-based COCO object detection and instance segmentation tasks.

38. Revisiting Discriminator in GAN Compression: A Generator-discriminator Cooperative Compression Scheme

Abstract

Recently, a series of algorithms have been explored for GAN compression, which aims to reduce tremendous computational overhead and memory usages when deploying GANs on resource-constrained edge devices. However, most of the existing GAN compression work only focuses on how to compress the generator, while fails to take the discriminator into account. In this work, we revisit the role of discriminator in GAN compression and design a novel generator-discriminator cooperative compression scheme for GAN compression, termed GCC. Within GCC, a selective activation discriminator automatically selects and activates convolutional channels according to a local capacity constraint and a global coordination constraint, which help maintain the Nash equilibrium with the lightweight generator during the adversarial training and avoid mode collapse. The original generator and discriminator are also optimized from scratch, to play as a teacher model to progressively refine the pruned generator and the selective activation discriminator. A novel online collaborative distillation scheme is designed to take full advantage of the intermediate feature of the teacher generator and discriminator to further boost the performance of the lightweight generator. Extensive experiments on various GAN-based generation tasks demonstrate the effectiveness and generalization of GCC. Among them, GCC contributes to reducing 80% computational costs while maintains comparable performance in image translation tasks. 40. Online Multi-Granularity Distillation for GAN Compression

Abstract

Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have witnessed prevailing success in yielding outstanding images, however, they are burdensome to deploy on resource-constrained devices due to ponderous computational costs and hulking memory usage. Although recent efforts on compressing GANs have acquired remarkable results, they still exist potential model redundancies and can be further compressed. To solve this issue, we propose a novel online multi-granularity distillation (OMGD) scheme to obtain lightweight GANs, which contributes to generating high-fidelity images with low computational demands. We offer the first attempt to popularize single-stage online distillation for GAN-oriented compression, where the progressively promoted teacher generator helps to refine the discriminator-free based student generator. Complementary teacher generators and network layers provide comprehensive and multi-granularity concepts to enhance visual fidelity from diverse dimensions. Experimental results on four benchmark datasets demonstrate that OMGD successes to compress 40x MACs and 82.5X parameters on Pix2Pix and CycleGAN, without loss of image quality. It reveals that OMGD provides a feasible solution for the deployment of real-time image translation on resource-constrained devices. Abstract

Drought is the main limiting factor for plant growth in karst areas with a fragile ecological environment. Cinnamomum migao H.W. Li is an endemic medicinal woody plant present in the karst areas of southwestern China, and it is endangered due to poor drought tolerance. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are known to enhance the drought tolerance of plants. However, few studies have examined the contribution of AMF in improving the drought tolerance of C. migao seedlings. Therefore, we conducted a series of experiments to determine whether a single inoculation and coinoculation of AMF (Claroideoglomus lamellosum and Claroideoglomus etunicatum) enhanced the drought tolerance of C. migao. Furthermore, we compared the effects of single inoculation and coinoculation with different inoculum sizes (20, 40, 60, and 100 g; four replicates per treatment) on mycorrhizal colonization rate, plant growth, photosynthetic parameters, antioxidant enzyme activity, and malondialdehyde (MDA) and osmoregulatory substance contents. The results showed that compared with nonmycorrhizal plants, AMF colonization significantly improved plant growing status; net photosynthetic rate; superoxide dismutase, catalase, and peroxidase activities; and soluble sugar, soluble protein, and proline contents. Furthermore, AMF colonization increased relative water content and reduced MDA content in cells. These combined cumulative effects of AMF symbiosis ultimately enhanced the drought tolerance of seedlings and were closely related to the inoculum size. With an increase in inoculum size, the growth rate and drought tolerance of plants first increased and then decreased. The damage caused by drought stress could be reduced by inoculating 40–60 g of AMF, and the effect of coinoculation was significantly better than that of single inoculation at 60 g of AMF, while the effect was opposite at 40 g of AMF. Additionally, the interaction between AMF and inoculum sizes had a significant effect on drought tolerance. In conclusion, the inoculation of the AMF (Cl. lamellosum and Cl. etunicatum) improved photosynthesis, activated antioxidant enzymes, regulated cell osmotic state, and enhanced the drought tolerance of C. migao, enabling its growth in fragile ecological environments. Transition metal sulfides are considered competitive candidates as low-cost electrocatalysts for water splitting. In this study, a facile one-step hydrothermal process was developed for the fabrication of cubic-like NiS2@MoS2 nanostructures. A few layers of MoS2 hybrids with uniform cubic NiS2 nanocrystals possess rich electrochemical active sites and improved electronic conductivity. This strategy was extended to CoS2@MoS2 and FeS2@MoS2 nanocrystals. The as-synthesized optimal NiS2@MoS2 nanocomposites exhibit enhanced electrocatalytic activity toward the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), which is attributed to the formation of intrinsic synergy in the NiS2@ MoS2 nanocrystals. 48. Heavy metal removal from aqueous solutions by chitosan-based magnetic composite flocculants.

Abstract

In this study, three magnetic flocculants with different chelating groups, namely, carboxymethyl chitosan-modified Fe 3 O 4 flocculant (MC), acrylamide-grafted magnetic carboxymethyl chitosan flocculant (MCM), and 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid copolyacrylamide-grafted magnetic carboxymethyl chitosan flocculant (MCAA) were prepared, synthesized, and characterized by photopolymerization technology. They were applied to the flocculation removal of Cr(III), Co(II), and Pb(II). The effect of flocculation condition on the removal performance of Cr(III), Co(II), and Pb(II) was studied. Characterization results show that the three magnetic carboxymethyl chitosan-based flocculants have been successfully prepared with good magnetic induction properties. Flocculation results show that the removal rates of MC, MCM, and MCAA on Cr(III) are 51.79%, 82.33%, and 91.42%, respectively, under the conditions of 80 mg/L flocculant, pH value of 6, reaction time of 1.5 hr, G value of 200 s−1, and precipitation magnetic field strength of 120 mT. The removal rates of Co(II) by MC, MCM, and MCAA are 54.33%, 84.99%, and 90.49%, respectively. The removal rates of Pb(II) by MC, MCM, and MCAA are 61.54%, 91.32%, and 95.74%, respectively. MCAA shows good flocculation performance in composite heavy metal-simulated wastewater. The magnetic carboxymethyl chitosan-based flocculant shows excellent flocculation performance in removing soluble heavy metals. Abstract

Nitrogen (N) deposition, a major phenomenon of climate change, is increasing with industrialization and more human activity and can affect litter decomposition. Yet it remains unclear whether N deposition will accelerate or inhibit the decomposition of litter in karst regions, which are characterized by P‐limitation or N and P co‐limited stress conditions in soil. Here, to document the influence of simulated N deposition on litter decomposition in karst, the leaf litter of Cinnamomum migao was studied, this being a dominant perennial woody plant endemic to karst landforms. We conducted a 300‐d field decomposition experiment with four treatments: control (CK); addition of (+) N at 50 kg⋅ha−1⋅a−1 (N1); +N at 150 kg⋅ha−1⋅a−1 (N2), and +N at 300 kg⋅ha−1⋅a−1 (N3), in southwest Guizhou, the largest karst region in China (n = 4 treatments). From each treatment, the litter samples' remaining mass were measured during the decomposition period, in addition to their nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), carbon (C), and potassium (K) concentrations, as well as that of soils; the soil's pH was also measured. The results showed that litter remaining mass increased significantly under nitrogen deposition, which, as expected, acidified the soil. Meanwhile, litter N, P, and K contents responded to nitrogen deposition, whereas C did not. Otherwise, no direct effects of nitrogen deposition upon soil nutrients were detected. The soil nutrient contents were related to the release of the elements in litter. In conclusion, nitrogen deposition suppressed the decomposition of C. migao litter in karst, but the nutrients of karst soil are mainly replenished by litter inputs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

50. Growth, optical and scintillation properties of Gd3+ doped Bi4Si3O12 single crystals.

Abstract

Pure Bi4Si3O12(BSO) and Bi4Si3O12:Gd (BSO:Gd) crystals with nominal concentrate of 1.0–6.0 mol% Gd2O3 were grown by the modified vertical Bridgman method. The X-ray powder diffraction, transmission and fluorescence spectra have been investigated on BSO:Gd crystals. Scintillation properties of Gd3+ doped Bi4Si3O12 single crystals have been investigated. Doped with small amount of Gd2O3(1.0–6.0 mol%), the relative light yield and energy resolution of BSO crystals were improved significantly. The experimental data indicates that the sensitization effect of a small amount of Gd3+ doping enables the intrinsic defects reduce, and improve the light yield and a large amount of Gd3+ doping can cause the new crystal field distortion and further affect the intrinsic luminescence of Bi3+. These results indicate that BSO:Gd crystals could be one of the promising candidates for replacing BGO in some applications such as electromagnetic calorimeter and dual readout in nuclear or high energy physics.
