Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − annihilation data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb −1, collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, we report the first measurements of the absolute branching fractions B Λ c + → p K L 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0\right) $$ = (1.67 ± 0.06 ± 0.04)%, B Λ c + → p K L 0 π + π − $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right) $$ = (1.69 ± 0.10 ± 0.05)%, and B Λ c + → p K L 0 π 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^0\right) $$ = (2.02 ± 0.13 ± 0.05)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Combining with the known branching fractions of Λ c + → p K S 0 $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0 $$ , Λ c + → p K S 0 π + π − $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-} $$ , and Λ c + → p K S 0 π 0 $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0{\pi}^0 $$ , we present the first measurements of the K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ - K L 0 $$ {K}_L^0 $$ asymmetries R Λ c + K S , L 0 X = B Λ c + → K S 0 X − B Λ c + → K L 0 X B Λ c + → K S 0 X + B Λ c + → K L 0 X $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},{K}_{S,L}^0X\right)=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_S^0X\right)-\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_L^0X\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_S^0X\right)+\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_L^0X\right)} $$ in charmed baryon decays: R Λ c + p K S , L 0 = − 0.025 ± 0.031 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0\right)=-0.025\pm 0.031 $$ , R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π + π − = − 0.027 ± 0.048 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right)=-0.027\pm 0.048 $$ and R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π 0 = − 0.015 ± 0.046 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0{\pi}^0\right)=-0.015\pm 0.046 $$ . No significant asymmetries with statistical significance are observed.

Abstract: Abstract The processes h c → γP (P = η′, η, π 0) are studied with a sample of (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decay h c → γη is observed for the first time with the significance of 9.0 σ, and the branching fraction is determined to be (3.77 ± 0.55 ± 0.13 ± 0.26) × 10 −4, while B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γη′) is measured to be (1.40 ± 0.11 ± 0.04 ± 0.10) × 10 −3, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of ψ(3686) → π 0 h c . The combination of these results allows for a precise determination of R h c = B h c → γη B h c → γ η ′ , $$ {R}_{h_c}=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma \eta \right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma {\eta}^{\prime}\right)}, $$ which is calculated to be (27.0 ± 4.4 ± 1.0)%. The results are valuable for gaining a deeper understanding of η − η′ mixing, and its manifestation within quantum chromodynamics. No significant signal is found for the decay h c → γπ 0, and an upper limit is placed on its branching fraction of B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γπ 0) < 5.0 × 10 −5, at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 3.510 and 4.914 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb −1, we measure the Born cross sections for the process e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ at thirty-five energy points with a partial-reconstruction strategy. By fitting the dressed cross sections of e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ , evidence for ψ 4160 → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ $$ \psi (4160)\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda $$ is found for the first time with a significance of 4.4σ, including systematic uncertainties. No evidence for other possible resonances is found. In addition, the products of electronic partial width and branching fraction for all assumed resonances decaying into K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ are determined.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected at the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb −1, we determine the absolute branching fractions of fifteen hadronic D s + $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ decays with a double-tag technique. In particular, we make precise measurements of the branching fractions B D s + → K + K − π + = 5.49 ± 0.04 ± 0.07 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=\left(5.49\pm 0.04\pm 0.07\right)\% $$ , B D s + → K S 0 K + = 1.50 ± 0.01 ± 0.01 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}_S^0{K}^{+}\right)=\left(1.50\pm 0.01\pm 0.01\right)\% $$ and B D s + → K + K − π + π 0 = 5.50 ± 0.05 ± 0.11 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^0\right)=\left(5.50\pm 0.05\pm 0.11\right)\% $$ , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The CP asymmetries in these decays are also measured and all are found to be compatible with zero.

Abstract: Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 3.686 GeV, we search for the first time for two nonleptonic hyperon decays that change strangeness by two units, Ω − → Σ0 π − and Ω − → nK − . No significant signal is observed. The upper limits on their decay branching fractions are determined to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → Σ0 π − ) < 5.4 × 10 −4 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → nK − ) < 2.4 × 10 −4 at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Using 24.1 fb −1 of e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the Born cross sections and effective form factors of the e + e − → Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ reaction are measured. The measurements are performed at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.510 to 4.951 GeV. No significant evidence for the decay of the charmonium(-like) states, ψ(3770), ψ(4040), ψ(4160), Y(4230), Y(4360), ψ(4415), and Y(4660), into a Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ final state is observed. Consequently, upper limits for the products of the branching fractions and the electronic partial widths at the 90% confidence level are reported for these decays.

Abstract: Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, the decay of ψ(3686) → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 $$ {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0 $$ + c.c. is observed for the first time. The branching fraction of this decay is measured to be B ψ 3686 → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 + c . c . $$ {\mathcal{B}}_{\psi (3686)\to {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0+\textrm{c}.\textrm{c}.} $$ = (2.78 ± 0.40 ± 0.18) × 10 −6, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Possible baryon excited states are searched for in this decay, but no evident intermediate state is observed with the current sample size.

Abstract: Abstract Using measurements from the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN mission, we investigate the densities of H+ (nH+), O+ (nO+), and O2+ (no2+), respectively, in the Martian magnetotail current sheet. We find that the current sheet when it is closer to the terminator than 0.75 Mars radii is mostly dominated by heavy ions ((nO++no2+)>2 nH+), regardless of the variation of the upstream solar wind, but that it is sometimes dominated by H+ (nH+ >2(nO++no2+)) at downstream distances exceeding 0.75 Mars radii. The occurrence rate of the dominant H+ weakly increases (and that of the heavy ions decreases) with solar wind density and dynamic pressure. Our results suggest that solar wind protons could enter the Martian tail and may become the dominant ion species in the current sheet, particularly when the solar wind density or dynamic pressure is high.

Abstract: Abstract This study presents a new spherical harmonic (SH) model of the crustal magnetic field of Mars, based on the magnetic field data set measured by the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) and the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) spacecraft. To minimize the influence of external fields due to solar wind interaction with Mars, we rejected data that were observed dayside and above an altitude of 500 km. The data points of MAVEN were reduced by using a proxy of solar wind activity that identified and rejected any data measured during magnetically disturbed intervals. We used a conventional least squares technique to estimate the Gauss coefficients fitted to the reduced data set and made a compromise between model misfit and model roughness by truncating the SH model at degree 110. This model is capable of representing crustal fields with a spatial resolution approaching ∼200 km at 120 km altitude and ∼260 km at the Martian surface. Since our model fits MAVEN's observational data better than previous models, especially the data obtained during MAVEN's low altitude periapsis passes, we conclude that it may more accurately approximate the low‐altitude crustal field. We calculate the crustal field power spectrum of various models and find that small‐scale fields at low altitudes were underestimated by most previous models. This new model could benefit future studies associated with the Martian crustal field and its interaction with the solar wind.

11. Fractional Stress Relaxation Model of Rock Freeze-Thaw Damage

Abstract: Freeze-thaw cycle is a type of fatigue loading, and rock stress relaxation under freeze-thaw cycles takes into account the influence of the freeze-thaw cycle damage and deterioration. Rock stress relaxation under freeze-thaw cycles is one of the paramount issues in tunnel and slope stability research. To accurately describe the mechanical behaviour of stress relaxation of rocks under freeze-thaw, the software element is constructed based on the theory of fractional calculus to replace the ideal viscous element in the traditional element model. The freeze-thaw damage degradation of viscosity coefficient is considered. A new three-element model is established to better reflect the nonlinear stress relaxation behavior of rocks under freeze-thaw. The freeze-thaw and stress relaxation of rock are simulated by ABAQUS, the relevant model parameters are determined, and the stress relaxation equation of rock under freeze-thaw cycle is obtained based on numerical simulation results. The research shows that the test results are consistent with the calculated results, indicating that the constitutive equation can better describe the stress relaxation characteristics of rocks under freeze-thaw and provide theoretical basis for surrounding rock support in cold region.

Abstract: Prediction of the landslide development process is always a hot issue in landslide research. So far, many methods for landslide displacement series prediction have been proposed. The support vector machine (SVM) has been proved to be a novel algorithm with good performance. However, the performance strongly depends on the right selection of the parameters (C and γ) of the SVM model. In this study, we present an application of genetic algorithm and support vector machine (GA–SVM) method with parameter optimization in landslide displacement rate prediction. We selected a typical large-scale landslide in a hydro-electrical engineering area of southwest China as a case. On the basis of analyzing the basic characteristics and monitoring data of the landslide, a single-factor GA–SVM model and a multi-factor GA–SVM model of the landslide were built. Moreover, the models were compared with single-factor and multi-factor SVM models of the landslide. The results show that the four models have high prediction accuracies, but the accuracies of GA–SVM models are slightly higher than those of SVM models, and the accuracies of multi-factor models are slightly higher than those of single-factor models for the landslide prediction. The accuracy of the multi-factor GA–SVM models is the highest, with the smallest root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.0009 and the highest relation index (RI) of 0.9992.

13. Effect of Alcohol Fermented Feed on Lactating Performance, Blood Metabolites, Milk Fatty Acid Profile and Cholesterol Content in Holstein Lactating Cows

Abstract: A feeding experiment with 40 lactating Holstein cows and 4 dietary treatments was conducted to investigate supplementation with different levels of alcohol fermented feed to the TMR on lactating performance, blood metabolites, milk fatty acid profile and cholesterol concentration of blood and milk. Forty Holstein lactating cows (106±24 d post-partum; mean±SD) were distributed into four groups and randomly assigned to one of four treatments with each containing 10 cows per treatment. The treatment supplemented with TMR (DM basis) as the control (CON), and CON mixed with alcohol-fermented feeds (AFF) at a level of 5%, 10% and 15% of the TMR as T1, T2 and T3, respectively. Dry matter intake and milk yield were not affected by supplementation of AFF. An increased 4% FCM in the milk occurred in cows fed T3 diet compared with CON, while T1 and T2 diets decreased 4% FCM in a dose dependent manner. Supplementation of AFF increased the concentration of albumin, total protein (TP), ammonia, and high density lipoprotein-cholesterol in serum compared with CON. In contrast, supplementation with AFF clearly decreased concentration of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and total cholesterol (TC) compare with CON. AFF supplementation increased the proportion of C18:1n9 and C18:2n6 compared to CON. A decrease in the concentration of saturated fatty acid (SFA) for T1, T2 and T3 resulted in an increased unsaturated fatty acid (USFA) to SFA ratio compared to CON. Concentration of cholesterol in milk fat was reduced in proportion to the supplemental level of AFF. Feeding a diet supplemented with a moderate level AFF to lactating cows could be a way to alter the feed efficiency and fatty acid profile of milk by increasing potentially human consumer healthy fatty acid without detrimental effects on feed intake and milk production. A substantially decreased cholesterol proportion in milk induced by supplementation AFF suggests that alcohol fermented feed may improve milk cholesterol levels without any negative effects in lactating cows.

14. Coercivity and nanostructure of melt-spun Ti-Fe-Co-B-based alloys

Abstract: Nanocrystalline Ti-Fe-Co-B-based alloys, prepared by melt spinning and subsequent annealing, have been characterized structurally and magnetically. X-ray diffraction and thermomagnetic measurements show that the ribbons consist of tetragonal Ti3(Fe,Co)5B2, FeCo-rich bcc, and NiAl-rich L21 phases; Ti3(Fe,Co)5B2, is a new substitutional alloy series whose end members Ti3Co5B2 and Ti3Fe5B2 have never been investigated magnetically and may not even exist, respectively. Two compositions are considered, namely Ti11+xFe37.5-0.5xCo37.5−0.5xB14 (x = 0, 4) and alnico-like Ti11Fe26Co26Ni10Al11Cu2B14, the latter also containing an L21-type alloy. The volume fraction of the Ti3(Fe,Co)5B2 phase increases with x, which leads to a coercivity increase from 221 Oe for x = 0 to 452 Oe for x = 4. Since the grains are nearly equiaxed, there is little or no shape anisotropy, and the coercivity is largely due to the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the tetragonal Ti3(Fe,Co)5B2 phase. The alloy containing Ni, Al, and Cu exhibits a magnetization of 10.6 kG and a remanence ratio of 0.59. Our results indicate that magnetocrystalline anisotropy can be introduced in alnico-like magnets, adding to shape anisotropy that may be induced by field annealing.

Abstract: The presence of damage in engineering structures could usually cause local variation in stiffness or damping, and therefore it is meaningful to detect the variation as early as possible for protecting the engineering structure from serious damage. In the study, a novel method is developed to detect and locate the local variation in stiffness and damping for structures based on transmissibility. Some important properties of transmissibility are first analytically revealed and, further, a variation detection indicator is proposed to locate the variation. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by numerical studies and the usefulness of it is demonstrated by application for detecting crack position in beam structures. The results show that the proposed new method has better performance than the three conventional transmissibility based methods when considering different frequency bands and noise.

Abstract: International audience; Antimicrobial resistance is a global challenge that impacts both human and veterinary health care. The resilience of microbes is reflected in their ability to adapt and survive in spite of our best efforts to constrain their infectious capabilities. As science advances, many of the mechanisms for microbial survival and resistance element transfer have been identified. During the 2012 meeting of Antimicrobial Agents in Veterinary Medicine (AAVM), experts provided insights on such issues as use vs. resistance, the available tools for supporting appropriate drug use, the importance of meeting the therapeutic needs within the domestic animal health care, and the requirements associated with food safety and food security. This report aims to provide a summary of the presentations and discussions occurring during the 2012 AAVM with the goal of stimulating future discussions and enhancing the opportunity to establish creative and sustainable solutions that will guarantee the availability of an effective therapeutic arsenal for veterinary species.

Abstract: The interaction between the mycotoxin beauvericin (BEA) and 9 yeast strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae named LO9, YE-2, YE5, YE-6, YE-4, A34, A17, A42 and A08 was studied. The biological degradations were carried out under aerobic conditions in the liquid medium of Potato Dextrose Broth (PDB) at 25 °C for 48 h and in a food/feed system composed of corn flour at 37 °C for 3 days, respectively. BEA present in fermented medium and corn flour was determined using liquid chromatography coupled to the mass spectrometry detector in tandem (LC–MS/MS) and the BEA degradation products produced during the fermentations were determined using the technique of the liquid chromatography coupled to a linear ion trap (LIT). Results showed that the S . cerevisiae strains reduced meanly the concentration of the BEA present in PDB by 86.2% and in a food system by 71.1%. All the S . cerevisiae strains used in this study showed a significant BEA reduction during the fermentation process employed.

Abstract: Titanium alloys can experience a cooling-induced phase transformation from a body-centred cubic phase into a hexagonal close-packed phase which occurs in 12 crystallographically equivalent variants. Among them, variant selection II, 60°/ $ \left\langle {1\bar{2}10} \right\rangle $ , is very close to the orientation of $ \{{10\bar{1}1} \}\left\langle {1\bar{2}10} \right\rangle $ twins (57.42°/ $ \left\langle {1\bar{2}10} \right\rangle $ ). We propose that the cyclic thermal loading during additive manufacturing introduces large thermal stresses at high temperature, enabling grain reorientation that transforms the 60°/ $ \left\langle {1\bar{2}10} \right\rangle $ variant boundaries into the more energetically stable 57.42°/ $ \left\langle {1\bar{2}10} \right\rangle $ twin boundaries. This transformation twinning phenomenon follows a strain accommodation mechanism and the resulting boundary structure benefits the mechanical properties and thermal stability of titanium alloys.

23. A Full-Scale Experimental Investigation on Ride Comfort and Rolling Motion of High-Speed Train Equipped With MR Dampers

Abstract: Achieving higher operation speeds safely and comfortably is yet a significant challenge in the railway industry. The rail irregularities and wheel-rail interactions in a train running at high speeds may result in large-amplitude vibration in the train’s car body and affect passengers by reducing ride comfort. The train suspension systems have a crucial role in reducing the vibration and improving ride comfort to an acceptable level. In this context, an exclusive semi-active magneto-rheological (MR) damper with a favorable dynamic range was designed and fabricated. The MR dampers were installed in a high-speed train’s secondary lateral suspension system in replacement of original passive hydraulic dampers, with intent to mitigate vibration of the car body and keep the ride comfort in a proper level at low and high running speeds. A unique full-scale experimental investigation on the high-speed train equipped with MR dampers was carried out to evaluate the MR damper functionality in a real operating situation. The full-scale roller experiments were conducted in a vast range of speeds from 80 to 350 km/hr. At each speed, different currents were applied to the MR dampers. The car body dynamic responses were collected to evaluate the ride quality of the train. Ride comfort indices under various train operating conditions are calculated through Sperling and UIC513 rules. This study reveals that the designed MR dampers effectively reduce the car body’s rolling motion. According to Sperling ride comfort index, the car body vibration was “clearly noticeable” at some running speeds when adopting the MR dampers, but it was not unpleasant. Besides, a “very good comfort” was achieved according to the UIC513 criterion. Also, no train instability was whatsoever observed at high speeds. This experimental investigation bears out the capability of the devised MR damper to achieve desirable ride comfort under high running speeds.

Abstract: An interstitial solute strengthened high entropy alloy (iHEA), Fe49.5Mn30Co10Cr10C0.5 (at.%), was successfully additively manufactured via selective laser melting. The as-built iHEA exhibits a hierarchically heterogeneous microstructure with length scales across several orders of magnitude, which engenders an enhanced strength–ductility combination relative to those fabricated by conventional processing routes. The high yield strength mainly stemmed from the dislocation strengthening besides the friction stress and grain boundary strengthening. The joint activation of multiple deformation mechanisms involving dislocation slip, deformation twinning and phase transformation can maintain the steady work-hardening behavior at high stress levels, leading to a high ductility.

Abstract: This study investigated the effects of a mixture of steam-flaked corn and extruded soybeans on performance, ruminai development, ruminai fermentation variables, and intestinal absorptive capability in Holstein male calves (n = 39). Calves were assigned to 1 of 3 treatments (13 calves per treatment): 1) milk replacer (MR), 2) one-half of the amount of MR in treatment 1, plus a mixture of 62.1% steamflaked corn and 30.5% extruded soybeans provided ad libitum (HMCS), or 3) a mixture of 62.1% steamflaked corn and 30.5% extruded soybeans provided ad libitum (CS). All the calves were started at 2 ± 1 d of age and studied for 150 d. Each 30 d was defined as 1 period. Dry matter intake and growth were measured daily and monthly, respectively. All calves were harvested at 150 d of age, after which rumen fluid was collected. Rumen and intestine samples were gathered. Calves fed MR exhibited greater BW (P = 0.001) and ADG (P < 0.001), compared with calves fed HMCS and CS from period 2 to 3; however, from period 4 to 5, CS calves had greater (P < 0.04) ADG than MR calves. The treatments did not differ in final BW (P = 0.72) and ADG (P = 0.20) from period 2 to 5. Compared with HMCS and MR calves, CS calves had the greatest DMI (P < 0.001) and the least feed efficiency (P < 0.001) from period 2 to 5. For ruminai fermentation parameters, CS calves had decreased (P = 0.04) rumen pH than MR calves. The NH3 concentrations were greater (P = 0.03) in calves fed HMCS than calves fed MR and CS. Total VFA concentrations were greatest in CS calves (P = 0.02). Calves fed CS had the greatest molar concentrations of propionate, butyrate, and valerate (P < 0.002), and calves fed HMCS had the greatest molar concentrations of isobutyrate (P = 0.001) and isovalerate (P = 0.001). The CS calves exhibited greater empty rumen weight (P = 0.001), papillae length (P < 0.001), papillae width (P < 0.001), rumen wall thickness (P = 0.012), and papillae density (P = 0.003). The greatest villus heights in the jejunum (P = 0.04) and ileum (P = 0.005) were observed in CS calves. Compared with HMCS calves, calves fed CS had greater villus:crypt ratios in the duodenum (P = 0.001) and jejunum (P = 0.001). Results indicate that CS improves ADG in period 4 to 5 and positively contributes to ruminai development, ruminai fermentation, and intestinal absorptive capability in veal calves. Abstract: We studied the deformation behaviour of bamboo under loading. Modulus of elasticity (MOE) in tension parallel to grain with respect to age, damage behaviours during tension and compression loading of moso bamboo (Phyllostachys pubescens) were recorded via digital speckle correlation method (DSCM). DSCM could be successfully used in determining MOE because the differences in results compared with those obtained using conventional extensometer were within 5%. MOE in tension parallel to grain obtained by DSCM maintained an increasing trend with increasing age. During the tension and compression processes, samples had large strain concentrations and gradients before damage. Abstract: The structural and magnetic properties of Pr-alloyed MnBi (short MnBi-Pr) nanostructures with a range of Pr concentrations are investigated. The nanostructures include thin films having Pr concentrations 0, 2, 3, 5 and 9 at.% and melt-spun ribbons having Pr concentrations 0%, 2%, 4% and 6%, respectively. Addition of Pr into the MnBi lattice has produced a significant change in the magnetic properties of these nanostructures including an increase in coercivity and structural phase transition temperature, and a decrease in saturation magnetization and anisotropy energy. The highest value of coercivity measured in the films is 23 kOe and in the ribbons is 5.6 kOe. Abstract: Potassium ferrate(VI) (K[sub2]FeO[sub4]) has advantageous properties such as a dual function as an oxidant and disinfectant with a non-toxic byproduct, iron(III), which makes it an environmentally friendly chemical for water treatment. This paper presents an assessment of the potential of ferrate(VI) to oxidize representative endocrine disruptors (EDs) and antimicrobials during water treatment using information about reaction kinetics and products. Selected EDs were bisphenol A (BPA) and 17α-ethynylestradiol (EE2), estrone (E1), 17β-estradiol (E2), and estriol (E3), and sulfonamides and tetracycline were representative pharamaceuticals. The second-order rate constants, k, of the oxidation reactions at neutral pH were in the range from 6.50-11.8 × 10[sup2] M[sup−1]s[sup−1] and 0.79-15.0 × 10[sup2] M[sup−1]s[sup−1] for EDs and sulfonamides, respectively. At a 10 mgL[sup−1] K[sub2]FeO[sub4] dose, half-lives of the oxidation reaction would be in seconds at a neutral pH. The values of k, and the reaction half-lives, varied with pH. Oxidation products from the reaction with BPA and sulamethoxazole (SMX) at molar ratios of ∼5:1 were found to be relatively less toxic. 30. Effect of Oxalate on Photodegradation of Bisphenol A at the Interface of Different Iron Oxides.

Abstract: In this study, a series of experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of the properties of iron oxides and oxalate on the degradation of bisphenol A (BPA) as a model organic pollutant in aqueous solution under UV illumination. Three iron oxides (Magh-300, Hem-420, and Hem-550) were prepared by a hydrothermal process and characterized by X-ray diffraction, the Brunauer−Emmett−Teller method, and scanning electron microscopy. The experimental results confirmed that the existence of oxalate can greatly enhance the BPA degradation reaction on the iron oxides in aqueous solution compared to iron oxides alone. The properties of iron oxides influenced strongly the dependence of the BPA degradation on the oxalate concentration. The optimal initial concentrations of oxalate were determined to be 2.4, 2.4, and 0.6 mM for Magh-300, Hem-420, and Hem-550, respectively. The optimal pH value was found to be 3.93, 3.64, and 3.61, for Magh-300, Hem-420, and Hem-550, respectively. The rate of BPA degradation on different iron oxides with oxalate under UV illumination can be ranked as Magh-300 > Hem-420 > Hem-550. Furthermore, it was found that the dependence of BPA degradation is also attributable to the interaction between iron oxide and oxalate, and the formation of dissolved Fe in the solution or adsorbed Fe−oxalate species on the surface of iron oxides. 31. Role of the acetyltransferase AAC(6′)-Iz modifying enzyme in aminoglycoside resistance in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia.

Abstract: Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is an emerging nosocomial pathogen that displays high-level intrinsic resistance to multiple antibiotics including aminoglycosides. A gene [aac(6′)-Iz] encoding an aminoglycoside-modifying enzyme, AAC(6′)-Iz acetyltransferase, was recently cloned and sequenced in S. maltophilia, but its importance with respect to aminoglycoside resistance in this organism was not determined. Using a homologous gene replacement approach, mutants carrying unmarked chromosomal deletions of the aac(6′)-Iz gene were constructed in wild-type and in vitro-selected aminoglycoside-resistant S. maltophilia. AAC(6′)-Iz-deficient mutants derived from both wild-type and aminoglycoside-resistant strains displayed an increase in susceptibility to amikacin, netilmicin, sisomicin and tobramycin (4- to 32-fold decrease in MICs), known substrates for AAC(6′)-I enzymes. The cloned aac(6′)-Iz gene restored the aminoglycoside resistance of the aac(6′)-Iz mutants, and could also confer aminoglycoside resistance upon Escherichia coli. To assess the significance of the aac(6′)-Iz gene with respect to the aminoglycoside resistance of clinical strains, its distribution was assessed in 65 clinical isolates from two hospitals. Using PCR, Southern hybridization, RT-PCR and/or nucleotide sequencing, the aac(6′)-Iz gene was identified in 57% of the isolates. Susceptibility tests indicated a good correlation between the presence of the aac(6′)-Iz gene and the resistance to tobramycin, netilmicin and sisomicin in these strains. These results indicate that the aac(6′)-Iz gene is an important contributor to aminoglycoside resistance in clinical strains of S. maltophilia, particularly to tobramycin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The ion migration during electrochemical process is a fundamental scientific issue for phase transition behavior and of technical importance for various functional devices, where cations or anions are active under electrical bias. Usually only one type of functional ion, O2- or Li+, is activated due to their different migration energy barriers, cooperated by the valence change of other immobile ions in the host lattice matrix, e.g., Co2+/Co3+ and Mn3+/Mn4+ redox couples, owing to the charge neutralization. Here we select spinel Li4Ti5O12 as anode and construct an all-solid-state battery under a transmission electron microscope; a synergistic transportation of O2- and Li+ driven by an electrical bias was directly observed at the atomic scale. A small amount of oxygen anions was extracted firstly as a result of its lowest vacancy formation energy under 2.2 V, leading to the vertical displacement of oxygen. Up to 2.7 V, an ordered phase with both Li- and O- deficiency formed. The Li+ and O2- ions are simultaneously extracted out from the [LiO4] tetrahedra due to the electroneutrality principle. The migration paths of O and Li have been proposed and verified by first-principles calculations. These results reveal a brand new synergistic ion migration manner and may provide up-to-date insights on the transportation process of lithium ion conductors.

Abstract: A four-terminal photodetector was fabricated on the ( 2 ¯ 01 )-dominant β-Ga2O3 thin film which was deposited in a plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy system. The suitability of this film for solar-blind DUV detection was proved by its transmission spectra. Moreover, the device operating in a specific voltage-current mode can accurately detect the DUV radiation both qualitatively and quantitatively. Accordingly, a dark/photo voltage ratio of 15 was achieved, which is comparable to that of previously-reported β-Ga2O3 interdigital metal-semiconductor-metal photoconductor. More importantly, the aperture ratio of our proposed device exceeds 80%, nearly doubling that of the conventional interdigital metal-semiconductor-metal devices including photoconductor and Schottky-type photodiode, which can intensively benefit the detection efficiency. Furthermore, it was found the dark/photo voltage ratio was nearly trebled with the assistance of two Zener diodes, and further enhancement can be expected by increasing the operating current and/or adopting Zener diodes with smaller Zener voltage. Therefore, this work provides a promising alternative for solar-blind DUV detection.

Abstract: High-anisotropy arc-melted and field-annealed Mn100−xBix (x = 50–65) alloys have been investigated. Samples predominantly consist of low-temperature phase (LTP) MnBi and elemental Bi, where the LTP volume fraction and sample magnetization decrease with increasing x. All samples are hard ferromagnetic at room temperature and demonstrate a structural and magnetic phase transition at 630 K. For Mn35Bi65, the highest values for coercivity (4.6 kOe), magnetization remanence ratio (0.97), and energy product (4.9 MGOe) are measured at 540 K, near the melting point of bismuth. Abstract: In plants, many C2H2-type zinc finger transcription factors function in plant defense responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. Here, we report cloning and characterization of VvZFP11 which encoded a C2H2-type zinc finger protein (ZFP) in grapevine (Vitis vinifera). Sequence analysis shows that VvZFP11 contained one L-box, two C2H2-type zinc finger motifs and one ERF-associated amphiphilic repression (EAR) motif. The VvZFP11 localized to the nucleus and functional analysis shows that full-length VvZFP11 had no transcriptional activity, but VvZFP11 lacking the EAR motif had a strong transcriptional activity in yeast. In grapevine, expression of VvZFP11 was induced by salicylic acid and methyl jasmonate and also quickly responded to infection with Erisiphe necator. Arabidopsis thaliana plants overexpressing VvZFP11 were more resistant to Golovinomyces cichoracearum, and real time quantitative polymerase chain reaction revealed that defense-related genes AtPR1 and AtPDF1.2 were up-regulated in the overexpressing lines. These results suggest that VvZFP11 might play an important role in defense responses in grapevine.
