The results of this research are relevant to occupational health, as they reveal a high incidence of neoplasms in a group of workers exposed for long periods to insecticides used in public health campaigns. After it to discuss the plausibility of the results of this cohort, we could analyzing the importance of Occupational Health Surveillance actions. Objective: The aim of the study is to measure cancer's incidence in endemic fight agents in a Brazil's Northeast state. Methods: This is a historical cohort with 1053 endemic fight agents. A survival analysis was performed using Kaplan-Meier method. Results: The overall neoplasm incidence rate has been 5508 cases per 105, and 4843 cases per 105 when nonmelanoma skin tumors were excluded. The increase in incidence of neoplasms occurred in 2019 and has conferred a risk of neoplasms 20 times higher than the national and state incidence. Conclusions: We believe in an occupational factor for these results: the chronic exposure to insecticides used in public health campaigns. The peak incidence of neoplasms, in 2019, may corroborate with long induction period of these compounds, in addition to consistency with specialized literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are an array of conditions affecting the human locomotor system, such as muscles, tendons, nerves, bones, and joints. It is related to physiological, kinesiological and biomechanical changes which result in pain, paresthesia, inflammation, weakness, tiredness, heaviness in limbs, fatigue, reduced range of motion and/or compression of peripheral nerves. The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of positive (massage gum) or negative pressure (vacuum therapy) combined with laser on the health of workers with back pain, investigating pain intensity, shoulder mobility, spinal flexibility, life quality, and well-being. Twenty-one workers (female and male) aged between 20 and 60 years and who had medical referral for pain complaint in low back, neck and shoulders due to WMSDs participated in this study and were randomized into 3 groups: (1) Positive Pressure plus Laser Group (PPL): positive pressure using a massage gun was applied after the laser; (2) Negative Pressure plus Laser Group (NPL): negative pressure by vacuum was applied together with the laser and; (3) Control group (CG): without positive and negative pressure treatments or laser therapy. All workers received an educational booklet with postural orientation and suggestions focused on stretching exercises. Anamnesis, visual analogue scale (VAS) to assess pain intensity, and functional tests to assess spine flexibility and shoulders mobility were performed. Quality of life and well-being also were evaluated. The regions of lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine were treated once a week, totaling seven sessions. The main result was a reduced pain and an increased spinal flexibility, shoulders mobility, and quality of life in the PPL and NPL groups compared to the CG (p < 0.05). Furthermore, NPL showed better results compared to PPL (p < 0.05) for lumbar and cervical pain, as well as for right shoulder mobility. Therefore, laser combined with negative pressure massage was more effective in reducing lumbar and cervical pain and increasing shoulder mobility compared to positive pressure massage in workers. • The most workers remain sitting for long periods, indicating a factor which may lead to complaints of back pain. • The positive or negative pressure massage plus laser reduce pain, increase function and improve quality of life. • Negative pressure massage combined with laser showed better results for pain relief and shoulder mobility. The Internet of Things (IoT) has radically changed the industrial world, enabling the integration of numerous systems and devices into the industrial ecosystem. There are many areas of the manufacturing industry in which IoT has contributed, including plants' remote monitoring and control, energy efficiency, more efficient resources management, and cost reduction, paving the way for smart manufacturing in the framework of Industry 4.0. This review article provides an up-to-date overview of IoT systems and machine learning (ML) algorithms applied to smart manufacturing (SM), analyzing four main application fields: security, predictive maintenance, process control, and additive manufacturing. In addition, the paper presents a descriptive and comparative overview of ML algorithms mainly used in smart manufacturing. Furthermore, for each discussed topic, a deep comparative analysis of the recent IoT solutions reported in the scientific literature is introduced, dwelling on the architectural aspects, sensing solutions, implemented data analysis strategies, communication tools, performance, and other characteristic parameters. This comparison highlights the strengths and weaknesses of each discussed solution. This study sought to analyze the influence of occupational stress on the body composition of hospital workers after one year of follow-up. This prospective cohort study included 218 workers from one of the leading private hospitals in the municipality of Santo Antônio de Jesus, Recôncavo da Bahia region, Northeast Brazil. Body composition was analyzed by proxy (Body Mass Index and Waist Circumference) and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. The primary exposure adopted in the present study was the perception of occupational stress, assessed with the adapted and reduced version of the Job Content Questionnaire evaluating demand and control dimensions. The covariates were work characteristics; biological characteristics; sociodemographic characteristics and lifestyle. Statistical analyses were performed using descriptive, bivariate and multivariate analysis. At the first stage of the study, we identified that 55.96% (n = 122) of workers had high work demand and 25.22% (n = 55) had low control. Among those who had high demand and low control at the beginning of the study, the majority were women, non-white, with low educational and income levels, sleeping less than 7 h/day. After 12 months of follow-up, the median value for demand continued as 13 (IQR: 5–25) and for control, it increased to 16 (IQR: 9–23). In this second moment of the study, 62.38% (n = 136) of workers showed high demand and 45.87% (n = 100) low control. The characteristics of workers with high demand and low control were similar to those of the first moment. The results indicate that high demand and low control at work are risk factors for changes in body mass index, fat mass and fat-free mass in hospital workers. This study shows the importance and need for clinical and epidemiological assessments regarding the body composition of professionals working in hospitals, since high rates of overweight and obesity are triggers of chronic health problems such as dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases, among others. Therefore, managers must promote adequate working conditions and understand the need for periodic body composition assessments.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to synthesize research on factors associated with Burnout Syndrome (BS) in police officers. Methods: a scoping review was conducted without temporal or language restrictions. Data were exported to EndNote to remove duplicates and then imported into the Rayyan app for organization, article selection, and data extraction. Results: a total of 4559 publications were identified, with 50 studies included in the review. Research conducted in Brazil and the United States predominated. Certain occupational factors were found to be more closely linked to police officers compared to other professions, including law enforcement, frequency of interaction with suspects and criminals, rank, dissatisfaction with the organization, and civilian confrontations. Conclusions: certain aspects of the police profession contribute to BS, even in countries with better working conditions in public security. It is recommended to prioritize health promotion initiatives for these professionals.

The impact of noise can arise from the operation of a mineral ore processing plant in the mining industry, such as PT Freeport Indonesia. The use of advanced technology in modern industry, like SAG#3, has increased production productivity but can also lead to noise emission issues that may endanger workers’ health. This research aims to project the impact of noise in the workplace at a new mineral ore processing plant using dynamic system analysis. Noise sampling was conducted using a sound level meter instrument following SNI 7231:2009. After data collection, dynamic system analysis was performed using Vensim Pro software, involving steps such as causal loop design, stock flow diagram formation, and model verification testing. The analysis results indicate that the noise level exceeds the permissible exposure limit, measuring at 85 dBA. Therefore, the implementation of a Hearing Conservation Program (HCP), personal protective equipment (PPE) policies, and periodic noise control policy evaluation are crucial steps in reducing the impact of noise on employees. This study highlights the need for concrete actions by the company, such as improving the effectiveness of the HCP, enforcing stricter PPE policies, and conducting regular evaluations. Consequently, the company can create a safer work environment and reduce the health risks associated with noise exposure in the workplace.

ABSTRACT This aimed to systematically review randomized controlled trials and compare the effectiveness of labor gymnastics with that of no intervention, minimal intervention or other types of intervention in healthcare workers, in relation to musculoskeletal pain, stress, physical disability, and absence from work. A search was carried out in the PUBMED, Pedro, EMBASE, CENTRAL, CINAHAL, PSYCHINFO, NIOSHTIC-2, SPORT DICUS, SCIELO, and LILACS databases. In total, 3,598 articles were found, seven of which were eligible for the study. There was a statistical difference in musculoskeletal pain in favor of labor gymnastics after 5, 10 and 12 weeks (MD: −0.63; 95%, CI: −1.17; −0.08) and 6, 9 and 12 months of intervention (MD: −0.74; 95% CI: −1.43; −0.05). There was also a statistical difference in favor of labor gymnastics in terms of time off work (MD: −3.26; 95% CI: −6.28; −0.25) and stress (SMD: −0.35; 95% CI: −0.67; −0.03) in studies in which interventions were carried out for 5 and 10 weeks. Labor gymnastics can contribute to the physical and mental health of healthcare professionals. However, more randomized controlled studies with a larger sample size and aimed at this professional category are needed.

Working in a hot environment can disrupt the balance of body temperature so that the body tries hardly to control the heat which can cause a lack of fluids and is called dehydration. Dehydration can affect cognitive performance, causing decreased productivity and increased risk of work accidents, and in the long term can trigger some non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, urinary tract disease, obesity and others. Pak Rama Education (Active Workers Diligently Drink Water) is an educational and empowerment activity for the worker community, especially those who work in hot environments, in an effort to prevent dehydration and non-communicable diseases. The aim of this activity was to increase workers' knowledge about healthy hydration and increase workers' ability to assess hydration status independently. This activity was carried out using the education method about healthy hydration and a demonstration of how to assess hydration status using a urine color chart. Pak Rama's activity was held on 17th November 2022 at PTPN VII Unit Way Berulu South Lampung. The participants were 50 workers consisting of management officers, factory and plantation workers. From the evaluation results, it was found that the average pre-test score of participants was 66.7 and there was an increase of participants' knowledge about healthy hydration which was seen from the increase in the average score on the post-test, namely 86.6. Based on analysis using the Wilcoxon test, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference between average pretest and posttest scores. The results of the assessment of participants' ability to assess hydration status using a urine color chart were also found increase. Pak Rama's education has proven effective in increasing workers' knowledge about healthy hydration and their ability to assess hydration status independently. • A multidimensional construct of safety climate is proposed, considering the most salient factors from the literature, and including psychological capital as a new factor. • This research contributes to the literature by being the first empirical research, that incorporates the psychological capital factor as an element affecting safety climate, especially in the construction sector studies. • Accurate methodological description. Descriptive analyses and Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) were used to assess the quality of the measurement instrument and the hypotheses of the proposed model. • This study proposes and validates a structural model to explain workers' mental and physical health as a function of safety climate, mediated by job satisfaction. • The sample of Spanish construction workers was composed by all random observations contained in the EWCS of all workers in the Spanish sector, totaling 232 workers. • Workers' mental and physical health are influenced by several factors, including, but not limited to, safety climate, work-life balance, and job rewards and compensations. • This study provides some recommendations for construction company managers providing a ranking of all the factors affecting the safety climate and the workers' health. Introduction: The number of physical and mental problems caused by occupational accidents and diseases increases every year. To control them, the safety climate at work is a recognized critical factor. However, a widely applicable model to capture the safety climate for various industries and organizations is lacking. Method: This study proposes a theoretical model to measure the direct and indirect effects of safety climate on workers' physical and mental health, mediated by job satisfaction, in the construction sector. We propose a multidimensional construct of safety climate, considering the most salient factors from the literature, and including psychological capital as a new factor. Using data from the last wave of the European Working Conditions Survey (2015) in Spain, the proposed model was validated using structural equation modeling. Results: Our findings suggest that to further improve the mental health of construction workers, work-life balance and job rewards and compensation must be prioritized along with safety climate. As for physical health, safety climate and work-life balance are crucial. Objective: To describe the process of developing and validating instrument content to measure nursing work intensification. Methods: This is a methodological study carried out in five of the eight steps proposed by DeVellis. I - Determine clearly what it is you want to measure; II – Generate an item pool; III - Determine the format of the measurement; IV - Have initial item pool reviewed by experts; V - Consider inclusion of validation items. Data production took place in the second half of 2021. Participants were 18 nursing workers in the exploratory step (elaboration of items), 12 PhD holders who made up the committee of judges/experts and 43 nursing workers in the pre-testing step. Data processing occurred mainly by calculating the Content Validity Index. Results: The instrument is organized into 60 items, arranged in seven domains: Interface with work; Pace and demands of work; Conditions for work; Interprofessional relationships; Institutional aspects; Repercussions of work on worker health; Patients' clinical conditions. The Content Validity Index ranged from 0.44 to 1.00, with items with a value lower than 0.80 being excluded. In pre-testing with the target population, this measure varied from 0.90 to 1.00. The instrument in its complete formation presented an overall assessment of 0.95. Conclusion: The instrument was considered valid by the committee of judges/experts and by the target population, constituting an innovative tool to be used to measure nursing work intensification. BACKGROUND: The arrival of COVID-19 in Brazil and the accelerated process of dissemination/contamination added to the evolution of the clinical picture of the disease, and the saturation of the capacity of health services, creating new challenges for researchers, governments, and professionals involved in the occupational health area. OBJECTIVE: This article aims to systematize and synthesize the proposals adopted by the legislation and by the Brazilian State, with a focus on worker protection and guaranteeing a safe work environment for the performance of their professional activities. METHODS: This is qualitative bibliographical research of the narrative literature review type, developed from October 2020 to June 2021 in legislation databases using the strategy: "COVID-19" AND "coronavirus/coronavirus" AND "worker health" on official Brazilian government websites. RESULTS: The lack of an emergency plan for efficient actions to respond to the epidemic caused and is still causing the daily deaths of workers. CONCLUSION: There is a need to guarantee the effectiveness of national and international policies and norms that have been neglected by the Brazilian government. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Presenteeism is a phenomenon about which a gap has been identified regarding its effects on productivity or worker well-being in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. This research analyzes the effects of presenteeism on workers' productivity and mental health, and the moderating-mediating role of mental health in the relationship between presenteeism and productivity. Based on the literature, a model was developed to verify the proposed relationships. To test it, data was collected through an online questionnaire applied to 308 participants who had experienced any health problem during the COVID-19 pandemic. The proposed model was analyzed using structural equation modeling with partial least squares (PLS) estimation. The evidence indicates the positive effects of presenteeism on workers' productivity and mental health. It also shows the nodal role of employees' mental health in their work performance when they decide to work whilst sick. As a mediating role, the impacts of presenteeism on productivity are high, both with a focus on completing work and avoiding distraction. In the moderating role, the relationship between presenteeism focused on work completion and productivity is weakened.

The lifestyle of the population has undergone significant changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which could have influenced alterations in dietary habits and overall well-being among workers. This study aimed to evaluate healthy eating practices and their relationship with the workers’ quality of life and physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was a cross-sectional investigation involving workers in the city of Curitiba, southern Brazil. The study was conducted through the application of an online questionnaire. The data were evaluated using non-parametric tests and fitting a logistic regression model. A total of 123 workers participated in the study, most of them male (53.2%), aged between 31 and 40 years (42.2%), with a predominance of workers with postgraduate degrees (62.6%, n = 77), and the majority of workers (68.2%, n = 84) were performing their professional activities remotely for at least one day during the week, and 73.2% (n = 90). It was observed that 52.8% had excellent healthy eating practices, and the older their age and the greater the practice of physical activity (time and frequency), the better the workers’ healthy eating practices. When assessing quality of life, the lowest average score for healthy eating practices was in the domain of social relationships. A direct relationship of older age, social relationships, and the practice of physical activity with the best individuals’ healthy eating practices was detected. Considering that remote work continues to be adopted post-pandemic, evaluating the dietary practices, physical activity, and quality of life of workers is necessary to understand this new labour phenomenon.

In the wood processing industry, working with machines exposes workers to occupational risks. This study evaluates the biomechanics of work activities carried out in a wood processing operation in tropical forest regions to identify risks associated with the development of musculoskeletal injuries. Data were collected in a wood processing industry from a tropical forest region in Midwest Brazil. Forty forest workers were evaluated, equivalent to 100% of the population of the company participating in the study. Biomechanical movements were measured using the Three-Dimensional Biomechanical Model for Predicting Stances and Static Forces. There was a risk of injury to the joints of the upper limbs (wrists and shoulders), as well as to the torso. When splitting and manually stacking wood, a risk of spinal injury was identified. All workers had a high risk of developing injuries in all joints evaluated in addition to a risk of serious spinal injury. In this way, the development of these activities without any ergonomic interventions makes the risk of developing musculoskeletal injuries in the workers involved imminent, with consequent early professional incapacity. Forensic psychology has been consolidating itself as a specialty in the legal field, including in the scope of labor law, with growing controversies about the mental illness of workers. This article is the result of a qualitative documentary research, which aimed to analyze judicial decisions related to mental disorders and their respective causal link in labor expertise in Brazil. We analyzed 59 decisions published on the website of the Regional Labor Court (TRT) of the Fourth Region between 2019 and 2020. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis. A significant presence of occupational diseases and claims for moral and material damages was observed. For the establishment of the causal link/concause, identified in 59.32% of the cases, the relevance of expert evidence was verified. The participation of the psychologist in such procedures proved to be inexpressive compared to medical experts. BackgroundAlthough previous reports link exposure to insulating materials with an increased risk of mesothelioma and chronic respiratory diseases, studies evaluating their associations with the risk of coronary artery diseases (CAD) are lacking.AimsWe aimed at evaluating the associations between exposure to insulating materials and the 10-year risk of CAD among insulators.MethodsIn this cross-sectional study, we recruited 643 adults (≥18 years), full-time insulators from the Local 110 Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Union in Edmonton, Alberta. We obtained demographic information, personal and family history, and job-exposure history, including experience (years) and types of exposure to insulating materials. Clinical profiling including Framingham risk scores (FRS) was assessed.ResultsOf all insulators, 89% were men (mean ± SD age: 47 ± 12 years), 27% had a parental history of cardiac diseases, and 22% had a comorbid chronic respiratory disease. In total, 53% reported exposure to asbestos, while 61, 82, and 94% reported exposure to ceramic fibers, fiberglass, and mineral fibers, respectively. In single-exposure multivariable regression models adjusted for experience, marital status, and body mass index (BMI), asbestos was found to be associated with higher FRS (β: 1.004; 95%CI: 0.003–2.00). The association remained consistent in multi-exposure models and a higher association was found between asbestos exposure and FRS among insulators with comorbid chronic respiratory disease.ConclusionOur study demonstrates that apart from cancer and chronic respiratory diseases, asbestos exposure may also have a cardiac effect, thus warranting the need for systematic surveillance to protect workers from the adverse effects of these materials.

Objective: To investigate the main causes of absenteeism in military police officers stationed in a Military Police Battalion. Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative approach study conducted in the archive of the Personal Section of a Military Police Battalion from Pernambuco. Data were collected from medical certificates in individual files of military police officers from 2009 to 2013 and analyzed according to the following variables: gender, age, length of service, rank or patents, activity, sick leave, number of days away and the International Classification of Diseases. Results: The sample included 599 military police officers of all ranks and patents. There was a prevalence of absenteeism in male police officers, aged 30-34 years and mostly soldiers, predominantly musculoskeletal diseases. Conclusion: This study showed the variables that characterize absenteeism and its recurrence among military police officers, which interferes with the battalion's work dynamics.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the implications of precarious work for the organization of work and for the health of nursing professionals in a surgical center. Methods: qualitative, descriptive study in which the interview technique was applied on 30 nursing professionals from a surgical center in a university hospital located in the Southeast region of Brazil. The project was approved by the research ethics committee. Thematic content analysis was applied in the categorization of speeches. Results: precarious work in the surgical center negatively affects the organization of work due to staff turnover, loss of skilled talent, and the need for continuous training of temporary workers. It also affects the quality of care, leading to risks to patient safety and workers’ health.Final Considerations: it is important to make work conditions less precarious in order to minimize staff turnover and promote the quality of the service offered and the health of the worker.

This study aimed to analyze, based on the Brazilian scientific literature, the current work configurations, as well as to identify which occupational risks and hazards workers have been exposed to and their interface with social protection. It is an integrative literature review developed in SciELO, LILACS and MEDLINE databases. The initial search resulted in 323 articles, and 135 of them were considered suitable for analysis, since they met all the predefined eligibility criteria. The results showed that the changes in work configurations reflect the increase in workers’ exposure to occupational risks and hazards, which happens at the same time as a systematic dismantling of social protection in Brazil. In conclusion, there is a scenario of progressive repression of labor rights, lack of social protection and precarization of labor.

The ethical climate is the perception of health professionals about the work environment, meaning the reflection on care practices and ethical-related decisions. There are extensive studies in the international literature about the ethical climate, but there are still theoretical gaps about it in health services. In this reflection article, the objective was to explore conceptual components about the ethical climate, proposing new elements of analysis of the construct. The starting point was the accumulated knowledge itself, the possibilities for expansion, and the conceptual progress emerging from contributions from studies on nursing ethics. It was understandable that the ethical climate is considered in its procedural model and cyclically, being articulated with organizational elements, as established in the literature, and, expanding the concept, with the worker's health and the ethical expressiveness at work. Regarding this last contribution, the suggestion is to think about the potential for work to allow, limit, or favor professionals to express their ethical and esthetic values in the most daily decisions and relationships, in care, management, and education. The conceptual framework of this study progressed by addressing the ethical climate as a process articulating several concepts and elements regarding the organizational aspect, ethics, and the workers' well-being. In South Africa, 15 percent of informal economy workers are street vendors. The organization of occupational health services in the country is fragmented and does not cover informal workers. Conditions of work make informal workers extremely vulnerable to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and tuberculosis (TB) exposure. In this study, a qualitative risk assessment was conducted among street vendors, followed by focus group discussions. Interpretation of data was according to major themes extracted from discussions. Workers are exposed to several occupational health hazards identified during the risk assessment. There is a lack of workplace HIV and TB services and overall poor access to healthcare. Street vendors, especially females, are at higher risk of HIV, due to gender inequalities. Comprehensive gender-sensitive training on occupational health and safety, HIV, and TB should be prioritized. To reach Universal Health Coverage and achieve the Sustainable Developmental Goals' targets, the health system should improve services for informal economy workers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a clinical condition and a relevant risk factor in the development of cardiovascular diseases; it occurs as a result of lifestyle factors, e.g., work. The aim of this research was to estimate the interaction between work and MS among primary health care (PHC) nursing professionals in the state of Bahia, Brazil. A sectional multicentered study carried out in 43 municipalities in Bahia, whose study population consisted of nursing professionals. The exposure variables were occupation, professional exhaustion, and working time, and the outcome variable was MS. Interaction measures based on the additivity criteria were verified by calculating the excess risks due to the interactions and according to the proportion of cases attributed to the interactions and the synergy index. The global MS prevalence is 24.4%. There was a greater magnitude in the exposure group regarding the three investigated factors (average level occupation, professional exhaustion, and working time in PHC for more than 5 years), reaching an occurrence of 44.9% when compared to the prevalence of 13.1% in the non-exposure group (academic education, without professional burnout, and working time in PHC for up to 5 years). Introduction: Since 2005, the Centro de Referência em Saúde do Trabalhador in the state of Santa Catarina has promoted several training in Vigilância em Saúde do Trabalhador for public health inspectors in the state, so that they can intervene in potentially sick work environments., Objectives: To evaluate the Vigilância em Saúde do Trabalhador actions carried out by the health surveillance agencies of the state of Santa Catarina and to verify the perception of inspectors regarding the technical preparation for the performance., Methods: Sample: 257 inspectors from 134 municipalities. Data collection: self-administered questionnaire sent to 733 state inspectors; the number of Vigilância em Saúde do Trabalhador actions planned and executed in 2018, extracted from the Pharos System. The study was cross-sectional, descriptive and with a convenience sample., Results: Most municipal workers' health surveillance did not carry out five Vigilância em Saúde do Trabalhador actions per month; most inspectors have difficulties in carrying out Vigilância em Saúde do Trabalhador actions and that they are related to organizational issues. There was no association between the variables training received and actions performed., Conclusions: It is inferred that the difficulties faced by inspectors may have contributed to the low number of Vigilância em Saúde do Trabalhador actions carried out. This study aimed to evaluate the stress perception among Brazilian physical therapists (PTs) during COVID-19 pandemic and to identify which psychosocial demands, sociodemographic, professional and clinical factors do associate with the PTs' stress perception. This cross-sectional survey was based on a convenience sample of PTs, who answered a questionnaire about: 1) sociodemographic and professional characteristics, 2) clinical characteristics and information related to COVID-19, 3) psychosocial demands, and 4) 10-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10). Full responses were obtained from 417 PTs. The average PSS-10 score was 19.2 (95% CI 18.5 to 19.9), which was higher than in other Brazilians before COVID-19 and figured among the highest one observed in healthcare workers from different countries during COVID-19 pandemic. After multivariate analysis, PTs' perceived stress remained associated with female sex, younger age, previous diagnosis of depressive or anxiety disorder, worsening in sleep patterns, large reduction in family income, housework, relationship with the partner, concern about close people/family members being infected by SARS-CoV-2, and loneliness. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between work-related lumbar posture (sitting, standing, walking, alternating posture) and LBP in workers. Methods: This is a retrospective study comprising 529 records of adult workers from a database of a private company. Predominant work-related lumbar posture was classified based on time spent in each posture. A total of 22 personal, occupational, clinical, and psychosocial covariates were evaluated. LBP symptoms in the last 12 months and during the last 7 days were the outcomes of the study. The multivariate analysis model evaluated the independent relationship between the work-related lumbar posture classification and other potential exposure factors with LBP. Results: The adjusted logistic regression model indicated that predominant walking reduced the likelihood to report LBP during the last 12 months when compared to standing (OR = 0.54; 95% CI 0.30, 0.99; p = 0.048), but there is no association between work-related postures and recent LBP. The adjusted analyses also revealed an association between LBP during the last 12 months and female sex, blue-collar task, frequently feeling tiredness, pain at any other body region previous 12 months, previous LBP, and monotonous work. Recent LBP was associated with female sex, pain at any other body region last 7 days, and previous LBP. Conclusions: Standing posture increases the likelihood to report LBP during the last 12 months when compared to walking. For the purpose of analyzing topics linking the health-disease-work process to medical evaluation practices under the scope of the federal public service and their interaction with Worker's Health, this article investigates the issue of determining the duration of the sick leave period that a worker is granted for caring for their own health, within the Subsistema Integrado de Atenção à Saúde do Servidor (SIASS). To that end, the parameters for granting time off work, as provided by the Manual de Perícia Oficial, and the speeches on this topic by the interviewees were analyzed. The importance given to the topic 'days off work' arises from the fact that it is related to the time it takes the worker to recover, which implies fewer days dedicated to being productive. Interviews were conducted with 32 professionals from 5 educational institutions, and this article highlights some analytical categories: days off work; Manual da Perícia and disagreement between medical evaluators and attending physicians. The results point to the usefulness of revising the Manual taking into account Worker's Health, identifying contradictions; the need for shaping an effectively interdisciplinary evaluation, so that the worker's health-related complaints can be handled from the perspective of the worker's care, and not simply concerning control and surveillance. Occupational violence is a problem that health professionals are exposed to daily. This cross-sectional study aimed at identifying the prevalence of violence at work (verbal/physical) and the variables related to it in nursing professionals working in oncology. Physical or verbal aggression was assessed through self-report. The relationship between sociodemographic, psycho -emotional and work-related violence (verbal/physical) variables was analyzed using the Chi -Square, Fisher's Exact, Student T and Mann -Whitney tests. The study sample consisted of 231 nursing professionals. The prevalence of physical or verbal aggression reported in the last year was 61.5%. A higher prevalence of aggression was evidenced in professionals who stated that they were tired at the end of the shift and presented reduced concentration during the shift. It is noteworthy that workers who suffered violence presented high levels of burnout in all subscales, a higher Mean score on the work stress scale and a lower Mean with regards to sleep quality. ABSTRACT Objectives: To identify and analyze the perceptions of nursing teachers on the new configurations of the job world and the repercussions for their labor activities. Methods: Qualitative, descriptive, exploratory research, carried out at two federal nursing colleges in Rio de Janeiro. Data collection occurred with 27 nursing teachers, between May and June 2016, through semi-structured interviews. The data were treated using the thematic content analysis technique. Results: The results showed contradictions in the teachers’ perceptions about the job world, which has been guided by neoliberal precepts. Such contradictions are characterized by manifestations in favor of incorporating these precepts, highlighting their negative effects on nursing teaching work. Final considerations: There are incongruities in the way of perceiving the current configuration of the job world, proposing more and profound reflections on such a work scenario.

Objective: to investigate the Quality of Work Life among nursing professionals in a specific inpatient unit for COVID-19 care. Method: descriptive and cross-sectional study. Data were collected through the instrument Total Quality of Work Life-42, whose score ranges from 0 to 100, considering that the highest value represents the best quality of work life score; and a form for social and labor characterization of the participants. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyzes were applied. Results: the general score for Quality of Work Life was 59.9±7.9. The highest scores were for the Psychological/Behavioral (68.8) and Environmental/Organizational (62.2) spheres; and the lowest scores were for Economic/Political (52.5) and Biological/Physiological (55.7). All spheres had positive correlations when compared to work satisfaction and there was no significance when comparing the sample characteristics with the quality of work life levels. Conclusion: the nursing professionals working at the COVID-19 inpatient unit had a median Quality of Work Life; and work satisfaction was directly related to their evaluation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The safety climate is a measurable element of safety culture. Based on professionals' perceptions, it is possible to know the safety context of an organization. Objective: Assess the safety climate and its relationship to accidents/occupational diseases in a psychosocial care unit. Methodology: Quantitative, inferential study with nursing workers in a psychosocial care unit. A semi-structured questionnaire and the ClimaSeg-H - Escala de Clima de Segurança no Trabalho Hospitalar (Hospital Work Safety Climate Scale) were used. Analysis was carried out using the IBM SPSS Statistics program. Results: As for the safety climate, the domain with the worst evaluation was "Support for work and safety practices". There was an association between the safety climate and the variables accidents/occupational diseases, use of medications, and missed work resulting from work-related accidents/illnesses. Conclusion: There are weaknesses in the safety culture related to work and safety practices support. Having an accident/illness at work, using medications, and/or missing work is associated with the poorest perceptions of the safety climate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nurses' perceptions on work overload in hospital units are analyzed. Current qualitative, exploratory-descriptive research was conducted in a university hospital in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, with the participation of nurses in clinical and surgical hospitalization services. Data were collected through systematic non-participant observation and semi-structured interviews. For data analysis, the thematic content analysis technique was used. Twelve nurses participated. Categories revealed reports on low quality materials, interruptions in work development, consequences resulting from work overload on the health of professionals and their coping strategies. It is important to plan actions that minimize work overload and, thus, preserve and promote nurses health, from the perspective of valorization and support, enabling the provision of comprehensive and quality care. This cross-sectional study investigated the association between self-reported race/skin color and two outcomes - psychosocial demand and physical demand at work - in 1,032 workers in an urban cleaning services company and two footwear manufacturers, located in the State of Bahia, Brazil. Psychosocial demand was measured through the Job Content Questionnaire and physical demand was measured through questions about postures and cargo handling. A Cox regression analysis provided prevalence ratios (PR) adjusted by age, gender, and educational level. Among blacks, there is a higher proportion of garbage collectors and a lower proportion of supervisory positions. Black workers are more subject to high psychological demand and low job control and, consequently, to high strain (PR=1.65). Also, they are more exposed to work with arms above shoulder level (PR=1.93), and material handling (PR=1.62), compared to white workers. Brown workers are more exposed to low job control (PR=1.36), work with arms above shoulder level (PR=1.48), and material handling (PR=1.25), also compared with whites. Social support is lower among blacks and brown. The study demonstrated inequities in psychosocial and physical exposures at work that are in line with the structural conception of racism. Abstract The objectives of this study were to identify the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome (BS) and the predictive power of occupational stressors for its dimensions - Enthusiasm toward the job (inverse), Psychological Exhaustion, Indolence and Guilt. This study assessed a random sample of 538 public servants from a State Court of Justice (RS/Brazil) who answered the Spanish Burnout Inventory, a sociodemographic questionnaire, a work-related questionnaire and and occupational stressors questionnaire. The prevalence identified was 6.5% for Profile 1 BS (Enthusiasm toward the job - inverse, Psychological Exhaustion, Indolence) and 4.4% for Profile 2 BS (Enthusiasm toward the job - inverse, Psychological Exhaustion, Indolence, Guilt). Stressors that predicted Burnout Syndrome were work content, work organization, type of public served, social environment of work, physical conditions of the workplace, work hours, workload, relationship with heads, and relationship with colleagues. Results suggest a need for intervention in occupational stressors present in work organization.

Office workers remain in a awkward position for long periods, which can lead to musculoskeletal symptoms. Ergonomic guidelines are recommended to avoid such problems. Evidence of the long-term effectiveness of ergonomic interventions is scarce. The aim of this randomised controlled trial was to compare pain intensity among office workers who received an ergonomic intervention and a control group before as well as 12, 24, and 36 wk after the intervention. Workers were randomly allocated to a control group (CG) and experimental group (EG). The EG received an ergonomic workstation intervention. Furniture measurements were related to individual anthropometric measurements to identify mismatches. The outcome was pain intensity, which was determined using a numerical pain scale and the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. A linear mixed model was created with pain intensity as the dependent variable. Group and time were the independent variables. No significant interactions were found between group and time. Significant differences between groups were found for the pain intensity in the neck, shoulder, upper back, and wrist/hand (p<0.05), with lower intensity in the EG. The intervention reduced pain intensity in the neck, shoulder, upper back, and wrist/hand. However, no reduction in pain intensity was found for the lower back or elbow. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to examine the association between working hours and onset of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) using a prospective study design. We used the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA) data from 2006 to 2016. A total of 2405 workers who were working 35 hours or more per week and who did not have CVD at baseline were analyzed. Cox proportional hazard model was used for the analysis to determine the association between working hours per week at baseline and the new onset of CVD. In addition, multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to test the relationship between average working hours throughout the entire follow-up period and the risk of CVD (N = 1134). Working above 52 hours per week at baseline was related to higher risk of CVD than working between 35 and 40 hours a week (hazard ratio [HR] = 2.08, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.60-2.70 for 52-60 hours; HR = 1.38, 95% CI = 1.05-1.81 for >60 hours). A worker's average working hours throughout the following period were also significantly associated with elevated risks of CVD (odds ratio = 4.40, 95% CI = 1.58-12.22 for >60 hours). BACKGROUND: Operating room nursing professionals are exposed to different workload. It is necessary to recognize which situations resulting from their tasks interfere with the health of the professional. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to identify the physical and physiological loads on operating room nurses and their impact on the health as well as trace ergonomic recommendations based on the literature and performed analysis. METHODS: The is an exploratory, observational, descriptive research conducted in the surgical center of a university hospital between August 2017 and July 2018. Nursing staff of both genders who worked as transport professionals or room circulators were included in the study. Data collection in the OR went through stages of Ergonomic Workplace Analysis (EWA), through semi-structured interviews addressing the physical and physiological work issues and a worksheet of data collected from the observations of the practitioners' actions. RESULTS: The study included 20 nursing workers of both genders with an average of 17.33±12.58 years of work experience. The most reported problematic factors were: lack of material, staff pressure, patient transporting, employment legal status with the institution, and lack of communication among the practitioners. CONCLUSIONS: There was a physical effort during the activity and a high prevalence of workers with pain complaints, which justifies the investigation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the study was to describe the level of satisfaction and absenteeism in the work of professionals in the Academia da Cidade Program (ACP). For this, a cross-sectional, descriptive study with a mixed approach was carried out. For data collection, a self-administered questionnaire was used for 104 professionals of the Program in Recife, Pernambuco. For the analysis of the quantitative data, the software SPSS v.10.0 was used, the results were shown in absolute and relative frequencies. Content analysis was carried out for the open questions about job satisfaction. The professionals stated that they were satisfied with the work, both from the point of view of the management of the Program (66.3%), and in a global manner (63.5%). The link with the users, the performance in health promotion and the teamwork were the aspects that most positively influenced job satisfaction and, conversely, the physical and material structure, the municipal macro management and the salary were those that contributed to the dissatisfaction of the professionals. Absenteeism due to sick leave (66.3%) was the main reason for the withdrawal of professionals from work, and the support of the worker’s health specialized team from the municipal health department was not perceived. It can be said that the professionals were satisfied with the work in the ACP, but the working conditions, the remuneration and the valorization from the management are aspects that must be improved. It is also necessary to take care of the provider, since absenteeism due to medical causes, withdrew almost half of the professionals in the period studied.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze association between burnout and sociodemographic and occupational features of military nursing workers. Methods: a cross-sectional study, developed in five military hospitals of the Army of Rio Grande do Sul State, among 167 workers from military nursing from December 2015 to May 2016. Sociodemographic and occupational questionnaires and the Maslach Burnout Inventory were applied. For the analysis, it was used descriptive statistics, Chi-Square Test and Poisson Regression. Results: the majority of participants were female; temporary military personnel, nursing technicians, with a median age of 34 years old. Burnout was related to the variables: Military Health Organization, time of practice in military nursing and accomplishment of leisure activities. Conclusions: burnout assessment may contribute to the Brazilian Army Command in organizing plans for prevention and handling of occupational diseases in military nursing, improving quality of life at work.

Bu çalışmada, Kocaeli’de seçilen 6 farklı diş protez laboratuvarında, diş protezi üretimi sürecinde ortayaçıkan partrikül maddeye bağlı, çalışma ortam havasının kirlilik düzeyinin ve bu kirliliğin hangi sağlıkşikayetlerine neden olabileceğinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Diş protez laboratuvarlarında işlem yapılanünitelerde en yaygın hangi boyut aralığındaki partiküllerin görüldüğü ve bu partikül boyutlarıylaçalışanların sağlık şikayetleri arasında bir ilgi olup olmadığı çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla çalışma kapsamındakitüm diş protez laboratuvarlarından en az 3’er örnek alınarak partikül madde örneklemelerigerçekleştirilmiştir. Örnekler 5 aşamalı Sioutas sıralı örnekleyiciler kullanılarak toplanmış, gravimetrikölçümlerden elde edilen sonuçlar değerlendirilmiştir. En düşük PM2,5 konsantrasyonu, havalandırmasistemi en iyi olan diş protez laboratuvarında tespit edilmiştir. PM2,5 düzeyi ile çalışanların hırıltılı solunumve gözde kaşıntı şikayetleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılıklar görülmüştür.

The Server's Integrated Health Subsystem is used to register health treatment licenses in the Federal Public Service, enabling knowledge about absenteeism-illness. To subsidize health promotion actions, it is intended to know its motivating causes in a Federal Education Institution in Minas Gerais. A cross-sectional study on leave between 2013 and 2018 was carried out. The variables were: position, sex, number of days off and the motivating code of the leave. Descriptive and inferential analyzes were performed using Poisson Regression. The main motivations found were: musculoskeletal disorders, followed by mental health in the group of professors and respiratory disorders in the group of administrative technicians, among whom, technicians up to 50 years old are associated with sick leave due to respiratory tract disorders and civil servants over 50 years old for musculoskeletal reasons. There was no difference in age with regard to mental disorder in this group. The static ergonomic risk associated with respiratory and psychic outcomes, and the risk due to dynamic activities in the absence of musculoskeletal disorders. Based on the data presented, it is possible to propose measures for Health Policy, aimed at improving the environment and work process, minimizing its risks and protecting the health of the employee.
