Abstract Background Sucrose non-fermenting 1 (SNF1)-associated protein kinase 2 (SnRK2) proteins belong to a relatively small family of plant-specific serine/threonine (Ser/Thr) protein kinases. SnRK2s participate in the abscisic acid (ABA) signaling pathway and play important roles in many biotic and abiotic stresses. At present, no SnRK2 gene has been reported in quinoa, and the recently published genome for this species provides an opportunity to identify and characterize the SnRK2 gene family. Results We identified 13 SnRK2 genes in the C. quinoa genome by bioinformatics analysis. Based on their phylogenetic relationships, these genes were divided into three subfamilies, similar to the situation in other plant species. Gene duplication analysis showed that there were seven pairs of homologous genes in the CqSnRK2 family, and that purifying selection played an important role in the evolution of SnRK2 genes. Gene structure analysis showed that the first exon in the SnRK2 family genes has the same length as the last exon, and that CqSnRK2 genes in the same subfamily have similar gene structures. Sequence analysis showed that the N-terminal region contains three highly conserved motifs. In addition, many kinds of cis-elements were identified in the promoter region of CqSnRK2, including those for hormone responses, stress responses, and tissue-specific expression. Transcription data analysis and qRT-PCR results showed that CqSnRK2 has different expression patterns in roots, stems, and leaves, and responded to biotic and abiotic stresses such as low temperature, salt, drought, and abscisic acid (ABA). In addition, we found that the protein encoded by CqSnRK2.12 was localized to the cytoplasm and nucleus, and there was no self-activation. The results of CqSnRK2.12 overexpression showed that transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana lines had increased drought tolerance compared to the controls. Conclusion The results of our study provide references for further studies on the evolution, function, and expression of the SnRK2 gene family in quinoa.

Cardiotonic pills (CP) is a compound Chinese medicine widely used in China, as well as other countries, for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. However, limited data are available regarding the mechanism of action of CP on myocardial function during ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. In this study, we examined the effect of CP on I/R-induced coronary microcirculatory disturbance and myocardial damage. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to left coronary anterior descending branch occlusion for 30 min followed by reperfusion with or without pretreatment with CP (0.1, 0.4, or 0.8 g/kg). Coronary blood flow, vascular diameter, velocity of red blood cells, and albumin leakage were evaluated in vivo after reperfusion. Neutrophil expression of CD18, malondialdehyde, inhibitor-[kappa]B[alpha], myocardial infarction, endothelial expression of intercellular adhesion molecule 1, apoptosis-related proteins, and histological and ultrastructural evidence of myocardial damage were assessed after repeffusion. Pretreatment with CP (0.8 g/kg) significantly attenuated the I/R-induced myocardial microcirculatory disturbance, including decreased coronary blood flow and red blood cell velocity in arterioles, increased expression of CD 18 on neutrophils and intercellular adhesion molecule 1 on endothelial cells, and albumin leakage from venules. In addition, the drug significantly ameliorated the I/R-induced myocardial damage and apoptosis indicated by increased malondialdehyde, infarct size, myocardial ultrastructural changes, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling-positive myocardial cells, inhibitor-[kappa]B[alpha] degradation, and expression of Bcl-2, Bax, and caspase-3 in myocardial tissues. Lithium-ion batteries with high-energy density are a hot spot in current research, and the 5 V class of high-voltage LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (LNMO) cathode materials attracts widespread attention because of its high specific capacity. However, the traditional electrolyte causes unnecessary reactions with the LNMO interface at high voltage, so choosing a suitable electrolyte is key to the development of the above-mentioned battery system. Here, we introduce 1,3,6-hexanetrinitrile (HTN) as the high-voltage additive to improve the oxidation stability of LNMO/Li cells. Compared with the conventional nitrile-based additive adiponitrile (ADN), the HTN additive can provide more nitrile functional groups to reduce the problem of decreased electrolyte viscosity caused by adding too much ADN. Besides, in order to improve the suboptimal performance of HTN in the mesocarbon microbead (MCMB) anode, methyl benzenesulfonate (MBS) MBS with characteristics of a protecting lithium metal anode at low potential is compounded in the electrolyte to improve the performance of LNMO/MCMB batteries. The synergy and complementary advantages of HTN and MBS improve the overall performance of the LNMO/MCMB battery system. Aim: 3,4-Dihydroxyl-phenyl lactic acid (DLA) and notoginsenoside R1 (R1) are known to protect ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) injury by targeting Sirtuin1/NADH dehydrogenase (ubiquinone) 1 alpha subcomplex 10/the Mitochondrial Complex I (Sirt-1/NDUFA10/Complex I) and Rho-associated kinase/adenosine triphosphate (ROCK/ATP) ATP synthase δ subunit (ATP 5D), respectively. We hypothesized that a composite of the two may exhibit a more potent effect on I/R injury. The study was designed to test this hypothesis. Materials and Methods: Male Sprague–Dawley rats underwent left anterior descending artery occlusion and reperfusion, with or without DLA, R1, or a combination of 3,4-dihydroxyl-phenyl lactic acid and notoginsenoside R1 (DR) pretreatment. Heart function, myocardial morphology, myocardial infarct, myocardial blood flow (MBF), apoptosis, vascular diameter, and red blood cell (RBC) velocity in venules were evaluated. Myeloperoxidase (MPO), malondialdehyde (MDA), and 8-oxo-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) were assessed. The content of ATP, adenosine diphosphate (ADP), and adenosine monophosphate (AMP), the activity of mitochondrial respiratory chain Complex I and its subunit NDUFA10, the Mitochondrial Complex V (Complex V) and its subunit ATP 5D, Sirt-1, Ras homolog gene family, member A (RhoA), ROCK-1, and phosphorylated myosin light chain (P-MLC) were evaluated. R1 binding to Sirt-1 was determined by surface plasmon resonance. Results: DLA inhibited the expression of Sirt-1, the reduction in Complex I activity and its subunit NDUFA10 expression, the increase in MPO, MDA, and 8-OhdG, and apoptosis. R1 inhibited the increase in the expression of RhoA/ROCK-1/P-MLC, the reduction of Complex V activity and its subunit ATP 5D expression, alleviated F-actin, and myocardial fiber rupture. Both DLA and R1 reduced the myocardial infarction size, increased the velocities of RBC in venules, and improved MBF and heart function impaired by I/R. DR exhibited effects similar to what was exerted, respectively, by DLA and R1 in terms of respiratory chain complexes and related signaling and outcomes, and an even more potent effect on myocardial infarct size, RBC velocity, heart function, and MBF than DLA and R1 alone. Conclusion: A combination of 3,4-dihydroxyl-phenyl lactic acid and notoginsenoside R1 revealed a more potent effect on I/R injury via the additive effect of DLA and R1, which inhibited not only apoptosis caused by low expression of Sirt-1/NDUFA10/Complex I but also myocardial fiber fracture caused by RhoA/ROCK-1 activation and decreased expression of ATP/ATP 5D/Complex V. Background: T89, a traditional Chinese medicine, has passed phase II, and is undergoing phase III clinical trials for treatment of ischemic cardiovascular disease by the US FDA. However, the role of T89 on isoproterenol (ISO)-induced cardiac injury is unknown. The present study aimed to explore the effect and underlying mechanism of T89 on ISO-induced cardiac injury. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats received subcutaneous injection of ISO saline solution at 24 h intervals for the first 3 days and then at 48 h intervals for the next 12 days. T89 at dose of 111.6 and 167.4 mg/kg was administrated by gavage for 15 consecutive days. Rat survival rate, cardiac function evaluation, morphological observation, quantitative proteomics, and Western blotting analysis were performed. Results: T89 obviously improved ISO-induced low survival rate, attenuated ISO-evoked cardiac injury, as evidenced by myocardial blood flow, heart function, and morphology. Quantitative proteomics revealed that the cardioprotective effect of T89 relied on the regulation of metabolic pathways, including glycolipid metabolism and energy metabolism. T89 inhibited the enhancement of glycolysis, promoted fatty acid oxidation, and restored mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation by regulating Eno1, Mcee, Bdh1, Ces1c, Apoc2, Decr1, Acaa2, Cbr4, ND2, Cox 6a, Cox17, ATP5g, and ATP5j, thus alleviated oxidative stress and energy metabolism disorder and ameliorated cardiac injury after ISO. The present study also verified that T89 significantly restrained ISO-induced increase of HSP70/HSP40 and suppressed the phosphorylation of ERK, further restored the expression of CX43, confirming the protective role of T89 in cardiac hypertrophy. Background: Increased CO2 levels in the general circulation and/or in the myocardium are common under pathologic conditions.Objective: The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that an increase in CO2 levels, and not just the subsequent extra- or intracellular acidosis, would augment late sodium current (INa,L) and contribute to arrhythmogenesis in hearts with reduced repolarization reserve.Methods: Monophasic action potential durations at 90% completion of repolarization (MAPD90) from isolated rabbit hearts, INa,L, and extra- (pHo) and intracellular pH (pHi) values from cardiomyocytes using the whole-cell patch-clamp techniques and 2',7'-bis-(2-carboxyethyl)-5-(and-6)-carboxyfluorescein, acetoxymethyl ester (BCECF-AM), respectively, were measured.Results: Increasing CO2 levels from 5% to 10% and 20% and administration of 1 nM sea anemone toxin (ATX)-II increased INa,L and prolonged both epicardial and endocardial MAPD90 (n = 7 and 10, respectively) without causing arrhythmic activities. Compared to 5% CO2, 10% and 20% CO2 decreased pHo and pHi in hearts treated with 1 nM ATX-II, caused greater prolongation of MAPD90, and elicited ventricular tachycardias. Increasing CO2 levels from 5% to 10% and 20% with pHo maintained at 7.4 produced smaller changes in pHi (P <.05) but similar increases in INa,L, prolongation of MAPD90, and incidence of ventricular tachycardias (n = 8). Inhibition of INa,L reversed the increase in INa,L, suppressed MAPD90 prolongations, and ventricular tachycardias induced by 20% CO2. Increased phospho-calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II-δ (CaMKIIδ) and phospho-NaV1.5 protein levels in hearts treated with 20% CO2 was attenuated by eleclazine.Conclusion: Increased CO2 levels enhance INa,L and are proarrhythmic factors in hearts with reduced repolarization reserve, possibly via mechanisms related to phosphorylation of CaMKIIδ and NaV1.5. Objective: Acute lung injury is a severe clinic condition with limited therapeutic approaches. This study evaluated whether schisandrin (Sch), an ingredient of Schisandra chinensis , has preventive effects on endothelium and epithelium injury induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and the underlying mechanisms. Methods: Male Wistar rats were continuously infused with LPS (5 mg/kg/h) via the left jugular vein for 90 min. In some rats, Sch (2.5 mg/kg/h) was administrated through the left jugular vein 30 min before LPS infusion. Leukocyte recruitment, levels of inflammatory cytokines, lung histology and edema, vascular and alveolar barrier disruption and related proteins were evaluated at indicated time point after LPS challenge. Results: LPS infusion for 90 min resulted in an increased leukocyte adhesion to pulmonary venules and overproduction of cytokine and chemokine in both serum and lung homogenate. At 8 h after termination of LPS infusion, obvious Evans blue extravasation and lung edema were observed, along with an increased apoptosis, a decreased expression of tight junction and adherent junction proteins, and a reduction in von Willebrand factor (vWF) and keratin, all of which were attenuated by Sch treatment. Meanwhile, the LPS-elicited activation of TLR-4/NF-κB/MAPK and FoxO1 signaling was inhibited by Sch. Conclusion: The present study revealed that pretreatment with Sch alleviated lung endothelium and epithelium injury after LPS stimulation, which is attributable to inhibition of cell injury and activation of cell regeneration via regulation of TLR-4/NF-κB/MAPK and Akt/FoxO1 signaling pathway. Background: Gualou Xiebai Decoction (GLXB) is a classic prescription of Chinese medicine used for the treatment of cardiac problems. The present study was designed to explore the effect and mechanism of GLXB on ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) induced disorders in myocardial structure and function, focusing on the regulation of energy metabolism and the RhoA/ROCK pathway. Methods: After hyperlipidemic rat model was established by oral administration of high fat diet, the rats were treated with GLXB for 6 weeks and subjected to 30min occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LADCA) followed by 90min reperfusion to elicit I/R challenge. Myocardial infarct size was assessed by Evans blue-TTC staining. Myocardial blood flow (MBF) and cardiac function were evaluated. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was performed to examine the content of ATP, ADP, AMP, CK, CK-MB, LDH, cTnT, cTnI, and IL-6. Double staining of F-actin and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling was conducted to assess myocardial apoptosis. Expressions of ATP synthase subunit d (ATP 5D), and RhoA and ROCK were determined by Western blotting. Results: Administration with GLXB at high dose for 6 weeks protected heart against I/R-induced MBF decrease, myocardial infarction and apoptosis, ameliorated I/R-caused impairment of cardiac function and myocardial structure, restored the decrease in the ratio of ADP/ATP and AMP/ATP, and the expression of ATP 5D with inhibiting the expression of RhoA and ROCK. Conclusions: Treatment with GLXB effectively protects myocardial structure and function from I/R challenge, possibly via regulating energy metabolism involving inactivation of RhoA/ROCK signaling pathway. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) causes microvascular barrier disruption, leading to albumin leakage from microvessels resulting in a range of disastrous sequels. Salvianolic acid B (SalB) is a major water-soluble component derived from Salvia miltiorrhiza. Previous studies showed its potential to attenuate microvascular barrier dysfunction, but the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. The present study was intended to investigate the impact of SalB on endothelial cell barrier in vivo in rat mesenteric venules as well as in vitro in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), aiming at disclosing the mechanism thereof, particularly the role of Src in its action. Male Wistar rats were challenged by infusion of LPS (2 mg/kg/h) through left femoral vein for 90 min. SalB (5 mg/kg/h) was administrated either simultaneously with LPS or 30 min after LPS infusion through the left jugular vein. Vesicles in venular walls were observed by electron microscopy. HUVECs were incubated with LPS with or without SalB. The expression of Zonula occluden-1 (ZO-1), VE-cadherin, caveolin-1 and Src in HUVECs was assessed by Western blot and confocal microscopy, binding of SalB to Src was measured using Surface Plasmon Resonance and BioLayer Interferometry. Treatment with SalB inhibited albumin leakage from rat mesenteric venules and inhibited the increase of vesicle number in venular endothelial cells induced by LPS. In addition, SalB inhibited the degradation of ZO-1, the phosphorylation and redistribution of VE-cadherin, the expression and phosphorylation of caveolin-1, and phosphoirylation of Src in HUVECs exposed to LPS. Furthermore, SalB was found able to bind to Src. This study demonstrates that protection of SalB against microvascular barrier disruption is a process involving both para- and trans-endothelial cell pathway, and highly suggests Src as the key enzyme for SalB to work. Background: Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) causes damage to coronary capillary endothelial barrier and microvascular leakage (MVL), aggravating tissue injury and heart dysfunction. However, the effective strategy for protecting endothelium barrier of cardiac vasculature remains limited.Purpose: This study aimed to explore the effect of Astragaloside IV (ASIV) on coronary MVL after cardiac I/R and the underlying mechanism.Study Design: Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were used for assessment of the efficacy of Astragaloside IV in protection of myocardial I/R injury, while human cardiac microvascular endothelial cells were applied to gain more insight into the underlying mechanism.Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats with or without pretreatment by ASIV at 10 mg/kg were subjected to occlusion of left coronary anterior descending artery followed by reperfusion. Endothelial cells were exposed to hypoxia and re-oxygenation (H/R). The distribution of junction proteins was detected by immunofluorescence staining and confocal microscope, the content of junction proteins was detected by Western blot, the level of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) was detected by ELISA, and the signal pathway related to permeability was detected by siRNA infection. The fluorescence intensity of FITC-albumin and FITC-Dextran was measured to evaluate the permeability of endothelial cells.Results: ASIV exhibited protective effects on capillary damage, myocardium edema, albumin leakage, leucocyte infiltration, and the downregulated expression of endothelial junction proteins after I/R. Moreover, ASIV displayed ability to protect ATP from depletion after I/R or H/R, and the effect of ASIV on regulating vascular permeability and junction proteins was abolished once ATP synthase was inhibited. Notably, ASIV activated the insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R) and downstream signaling after reoxygenation. Knocking IGF1R down abolished the effect of ASIV on restoration of ATP, junction proteins and endothelial barrier after H/R.Conclusion: ASIV was potential to prevent MVL after I/R in heart. Moreover, the study for the first time demonstrated that the beneficial role of ASIV depended on promoting production of ATP through activating IGF1R signaling pathway. Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the protective effect of AP on LPS-induced PMD and ALI. Methods: Male SD rats were continuously infused with LPS (5 mg/kg/h) for one hour to induce PMD and ALI. AP was administrated orally one hour before LPS exposure. Arterial blood pressure and HR were monitored. Blood gas analysis, histological observation, cytokines in plasma, leukocyte recruitment, pulmonary oxidative stress, microvessel permeability, edema, and related proteins were evaluated six hours after LPS challenge. Results: Rats receiving LPS exhibited significant alterations, including hypotension, tachycardia, increase in cytokines, neutrophil adhesion and infiltration, oxidative stress, and microvessel hyperpermeability, resulting in pulmonary injury and dysfunction. AP (0.18 g/kg or 1.8 g/kg) improved rat survival rate, and significantly attenuated all aforementioned insults, and inhibited LPS-induced increase in adhesion molecules, up-regulation of Cav-1 and Src kinase and NADPH oxidase subunits (p47phox and p67phox) membrane translocation in lung tissue, and preserved JAM-1 and claudin-5. Conclusions: The results demonstrated the protective effect of AP on LPS-induced PMD and ALI, suggesting the potential of AP as a prophylactic strategy for LPS-induced ALI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective The aim of present study was to investigate the efficacy of MXSGT, a traditional Chinese medicine formula used for treatment of respiratory system diseases, in the LPS-induced rat ALI particularly with a focus on its effect on lung microvascular hyperpermeability and inflammatory reaction. Methods Male Sprague-Dawley rats were injected with LPS (7.5 mg/kg, 1.5 mg/mL) intraperitoneally. MXSGT (0.52 g or 2.61 g/kg) was given by gavage six hours after LPS injection. Results LPS stimulation resulted in a reduced survival rate, deteriorated vital signs, an increase in the number of leukocytes adhering to lung venules, the albumin leakage, the activity of MPO in lung tissues, the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and lung perivascular edema. After LPS stimulation, western blot analysis revealed an increase in the expression of ICAM-1 and toll-like receptor 4, a decrease in tight junction proteins and an activation of cav-1, Src, and NF-κB. All the LPS-induced alterations were significantly attenuated by posttreatment with MXSGT. Conclusions This study demonstrated MXSGT as a potential strategy for lung microvascular hyperpermeability and inflammatory reaction in ALI, and suggested that the beneficial role of MXSGT was correlated with toll-like receptor 4, Src, and NF-κB. Objective This study was designed to investigate the protective potential of AS- IV against ischemia and I/R-induced myocardial damage, with focusing on possible involvement of energy metabolism modulation in its action and the time phase in which it takes effect. Methods SD rats were subjected to 30 minutes LADCA occlusion, followed by reperfusion. MBF, myocardial infarct size, and cardiac function were evaluated. Myocardial structure and myocardial apoptosis were assessed by double immunofluorescence staining of F-actin and TUNEL. Content of ATP, ADP, and AMP in myocardium, cTnI level, expression of ATP5D, P-MLC2, and apoptosis-related molecules were determined. Results Pretreatment with AS-IV suppressed MBF decrease, myocardial cell apoptosis, and myocardial infarction induced by I/R. Moreover, ischemia and I/R both caused cardiac malfunction, decrease in the ratio of ATP/ADP and ATP/AMP, accompanying with reduction of ATP 5D protein and mRNA, and increase in P-MLC2 and serum cTnI, all of which were significantly alleviated by pretreatment with AS-IV, even early in ischemia phase for the insults that were implicated in energy metabolism. Conclusions AS- IV prevents I/R-induced cardiac malfunction, maintains the integrity of myocardial structure through regulating energy metabolism. Objective The present study was designed to evaluate whether CP was beneficial in alleviating myocardial fibrosis following I/R injury. Methods Sprague- Dawley rats were subjected to 30 minutes occlusion of the LADCA, followed by reperfusion. CP (0.4 or 0.8 g/kg) was daily administered starting from three hour after reperfusion until day 6. Coronary venular diameter, RBC velocity, albumin leakage, MBF, heart function, myocardial infarction and fibrosis size, myocardium ultrastructure, MPO activity, and MDA level were evaluated. The expression of MCP-1, RP S19, TGF-β1, P-Smad3, Smad4, MMP-9 and α- SMA, and the infiltration of leukocytes were examined. Results CP post-treatment ameliorated I/R-induced myocardial RBC velocity reduction, MBF decrease, cardiac dysfunction, and albumin leakage increase. Moreover, myocardial infarction and fibrosis size, MPO activity, MDA level, the expression of RP S19, TGF-β1, P-Smad3, Smad4, MMP-9 and α- SMA, the number of CD68-positive cells increased significantly after I/R, and myocardium collagen deposition was observed on day 6 after reperfusion. All the alterations after I/R were significantly ameliorated by CP. Conclusions Post-treatment with CP ameliorates I/R-induced myocardial fibrosis, suggesting that CP may be applied as an option for preventing cardiac remodeling after I/R injury. QiShen YiQi Pills® (QSYQ) is a compound Chinese medicine used for treatment of cardiovascular diseases. However, the potential of QSYQ to inhibit cardiac fibrosis in left ventricle hypertrophy is not explored to date. We investigated the effects of post-treatment with QSYQ on rat myocardial fibrosis in left ventricle hypertrophy induced by pressure over-load through ascending aortic stenosis. QSYQ was administrated 4 weeks after the surgery, at a dose of 0.8 g/kg/day over the next 4 weeks, while echocardiography was performed 4 and 8 weeks, respectively, after the surgery. Eight weeks after the surgery, myocardial blood flow was determined by Laser-Doppler Perfusion Imager and the ratio of heart weight to body weight (HW/BW) was estimated, in concurrent evaluation of myocardial histology and ultrastructure, as well as collagen content by sirius red staining, and immunohistochemistry staining for CD68 and transforming growth factor beta 1. Post-treatment with QSYQ significantly alleviated left ventricular posterior wall end diastolic thickness and the HW/BW, increased left ventricle ejection fraction and left ventricle fractional shortening. QSYQ also decreased myocardial fibrosis size. The expression of CD68 and transforming growth factor beta 1 were obviously suppressed after QSYQ treatment. The results suggest that post-treatment with QSYQ attenuates pressure over-load-induced cardiac hypertrophy and myocardial fibrosis through interfering in inflammatory process. The effect of CA on HHcy-induced leukocyte rolling and adhesion in cerebral vessels was assessed using intravital microscopy. Plasma cytokines and chemokines were evaluated by cytometric bead array. ROS production in HUVECs and adhesion molecule expression on leukocytes were determined by flow cytometry. E-selectin and ICAM-1 expression in cerebrovascular endothelium was detected by immunohistochemistry. CD18 phosphorylation and the Src/PI3K/Akt pathway in leukocytes were determined by confocal microscopy and Western blot. Results: CA inhibited HHcy-elicited leukocyte rolling and adhesion, decreased ROS production in HUVECs, and reduced plasma KC, MIP-2, and MCP-1 levels. CA reduced the E-selectin and ICAM-1 expression on cerebrovascular endothelium and CD11b/CD18 on leukocytes caused by HHcy. Of notice, CA depressed CD18 phosphorylation and the Src/PI3K/Akt pathway in leukocytes. Chlorines are attractive compounds for photodynamic therapy because of their high absorption in the red wavelength region. The stearic acid–grafted chitosan oligosaccharide (CSO-SA) micelles have been presented as potential candidates for intracellular drug delivery carrier because of their special structure. In this study, CSO-SA micelles were prepared to encapsulate chlorine e6 (Ce6). The physicochemical properties of synthesized CSO-SA micelles were characterized. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of CSO-SA with 4.96% amino substituted degree (SD %) was about 36.27 ± 1.51 μg/mL. The Ce6-loaded CSO-SA micelles were then prepared by a dialysis method, and the properties and drug release profiles of Ce6-loaded CSO-SA micelles (CSO-SA/Ce6) were investigated. The loading of Ce6 in the CSO-SA micelles could reach higher drug encapsulation efficiency (%), which was ~100%. The size of CSO-SA/Ce6 decreased after the loading of Ce6. The zeta potential of CSO-SA/Ce6 and the drug release rate decreased with the loading content of drug. After the Ce6 molecules were encapsulated into the micelles of CSO-SA, the cellular uptake percentage of Ce6 was much more than that of the free drug.
