Abstract

The noble metal-based electrochemical sensor design for efficient and stable formaldehyde(FA) detection is important ongoing research. In this paper, PtPd/Nafion/GCE is prepared by electrochemical cyclic voltammetry deposition method based on electrodepositing nanostructured platinum (Pt)-palladium (Pd) nanoparticles in Nafion film-coated glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The influence of deposition parameters and chemical composition (atomic ratio of Pt and Pd) on the electrochemical behaviour of PtPd/Nafion/GCE has been investigated. PtPd/Nafion/GCE displays a remarked electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of FA and exhibits a linear relationship in the range of 10–5000 μ M, with a detection limit of 3.3 μ M in 0.1 M H2SO4 solution. It is proved that the detection performance of PtPd/Nafion/GCE electrode is valuable for further application with low detection limit, wide linear range, favourable selectivity and high response. 44. Multiphase artificial interphase layer enabled long-life and dendrite-free sodium metal batteries.

Abstract

Sodium metal anodes have received considerable attention due to their high theoretical capacity, low reduction potential, and natural abundance in sodium batteries. Nevertheless, uneven sodium ion (Na+) deposition accelerates uncontrolled dendrite growth and an unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer hinders Na+ diffusion, which eventually leads to short circuits and potential safety hazards. Herein, a multiphase artificial interphase layer composed of sodium bismuth alloy (BiNa3) and sodium chloride (NaCl) is applied to improve the interface stability of sodium metal anodes. Theoretical calculations and experimental results demonstrate that the BiNa3 alloy with good sodiophilic properties can function as nucleation sites to lower the nucleation barrier, induce uniform Na+ flux, and guide dendrite-free Na deposition. Meanwhile, a NaCl compound with high ionic conductivity can lower the Na+ diffusion barrier and improve diffusion kinetics. As a result, the assembled symmetric cells with a sodium metal anode modified by using a multiphase artificial interphase layer exhibit a remarkable cycling performance of 1200 h with a low overpotential of 20 mV at 3 mA cm−2 and 3 mA h cm−2. The full battery assembled with the Na3V2(PO4)3 cathode retains an ultrahigh capacity of 99 mA h g−1 even after 1000 cycles at 5C. Abstract

As one of the most important and basic magnetic materials, Fe3O4 nanoparticles have wide applications in water treatment. In this paper, the Fe3O4 nanoparticles were synthesized by solvothermal method. The magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles were obtained with sizes ranging from about 10 to 150 nm, with a distinct anti-spinel structure and an abundance of hydroxyl groups on the surface. Moreover, the saturated magnetization and the coercivity of the Fe3O4 nanoparticles are 84.08 emu g−1 and 89.52 Oe, respectively. This confirms that it has a good magnetic property compared with the commercial Fe3O4 nanoparticles. And then, the magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles were cultured biochemically with activated sludge to form the magnetic flocculent clusters for water treatment. The results show that the settling performance is excellent, and the sludge activity is well maintained, with microorganisms still abundant. Abstract

Water pollution caused by antibiotics is a growing problem and photodegradation by efficient catalysts is an environmentally friendly technology that can effectively degrade organic pollutants in water. Here, a novel method was innovatively used to synthesize niobium oxyfluoride (Nb3O7F) nanosheets decorated with Au nanoparticles, which is the first report for the composites of Au and Nb3O7F. We prepared the Nb3O7F nanosheets via hydrothermal synthesis followed by deposition of Au nanoparticles on their surface using HAuCl4. The prepared samples were characterized by XRD, HRTEM, XPS, and UV-Vis. The diameters of most Au NPs are ranging from 5 to 25 nm with an average size of about 16.9 nm, as well as the Nb3O7F nanosheets in size ranging from 200 nm to 700 nm. The chemical composition of the Au-Nb3O7F showed a Au/Nb atomic ratio of 1/10, as well as a Nb/O/F ratio of 3/7/1. UV-Vis spectrum reveals a largest absorption peak at 520 nm for the Au-Nb3O7F nanosheets. The prepared Au-Nb3O7F nanomaterials were applied to the visible-light photodegradation of tetracycline hydrochloride, with the photocatalytic degradation rate reached more than 50% under the optimal conditions within 1 h. Capture experiments indicated that h+ and «O2- are the main active substances involved during the course of the photodegradation. Furthermore, the proposed mechanism for the photodegradation of the novel Au-Nb3O7F nanosheets was given. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
