The predicted refractive error (PRE) was compared between the SRI (ARGOS) and the equivalent refractive index (ERI) biometers (IOLMasterTM 700). The patients were randomly divided into two groups, a learning group and a validation group. The optimization constants were determined in the learning group, and the optimization constants were subsequently applied to the validation group and compared with the ERI biometer results.Results: Using both SRK/T and BU II, the validation group’s PRE using optimization constants for the SRI biometer in group L was significantly smaller than that using the ERI biometer (p< 0.001, p< 0.01). In group L, the arithmetic PRE of Barrett UII formula with SRI showed a significant improvement after optimization compared to before optimization (p< 0.0001). In group S, the arithmetic PRE of SRK/T and Barrett UII formula with SRI showed a significant improvement (p< 0.0001, p< 0.0001).Conclusion: In long and short eyes, the current study revealed that optimization of the SRK/T and Barrett formula constants for the SRI biometer was beneficial to achieve accurate refractive outcomes after cataract surgery.Keywords: segmented refractive index, intraocular lens power calculation, Sanders-Retzlaff-Kraff theoretic, Barrett universal II, optimization

A non-anonymous, self-administered online questionnaire was collected from each athlete. Participants with a history of orthopaedic spine disease or surgery were excluded. Online responses from 368 college athletes belonging to 18 clubs were collected, among which 263 were included in the analysis. In the 263 responses, 41 individuals were identified as having NS-CLBP. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to determine factors associated with presence of NS-CLBP. Independent variables included the Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire physical activity subscale (FABQ-PA) score, Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia-11 (TSK-11) score, Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (RDQ) score, and body mass index (BMI). Additionally, the Mann–Whitney U-test was utilized to compare FABQ-PA, TSK-11, RDQ scores, and BMI between the NS-CLBP and non-NS-CLBP groups.Results: The FABQ-PA (odd ratio = 1.096, P = 0.003) was significantly associated with NS-CLBP. No significant association was observed between NS-CLBP and TSK-11 (P = 0.776), RDQ (P = 0.074), and BMI (P = 0.296). The scores for FABQ-PA, TSK-11, RDQ, and BMI in the group with NS-CLBP were found to be significantly higher compared to the group without NS-CLBP (P < 0.001, P = 0.034, P < 0.001, and P = 0.022, respectively).Conclusion: The present study revealed a significant relationship between higher FABQ-PA scores and NS-CLBP among college athletes. Conversely, TSK-11 and BMI values showed no significant association with NS-CLBP presence. We aimed to examine the reliability and validity of the Japanese version of the GAS for depression (GAS-D) tool in assessing goal attainment in people living with major depressive disorder (MDD).Patients and Methods: This was a prespecified analysis of a prospective, 24-week, multicenter, observational cohort study of employed Japanese outpatients with MDD initiating treatment with vortioxetine according to the Japanese label (JRCT1031210200). Participants were assessed using the Japanese version of the GAS-D and other clinical rating scales at baseline and Weeks 8, 12 and 24.Results: Goal attainment was significantly associated with symptom severity as assessed by the Montgomery–Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) scale, confirming convergent validity. In particular, GAS-D scores were significantly related to MADRS total score at Weeks 12 and 24, indicating that improvements in overall symptom severity with vortioxetine treatment were likely to be reflected in the achievement of individualized treatment goals. With an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.67 (95% CI 0.45– 0.82), the GAS-D also showed moderate test–retest reliability between Weeks 8 and 12 while proving independent of demographic characteristics.Conclusion: The results of this open-label study support the use of the GAS-D as a valid and sensitive outcome measure in the assessment of treatment response in MDD.Keywords: major depressive disorder, goal attainment scaling, goal setting, validation, vortioxetine

Although lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is the most frequently operated on spinal disease, the causal relationship between LSS and development of sleep disorders remains unclear due to lack of longitudinal studies. This study aimed to determine whether LSS was a risk factor for developing new sleep disorders, primarily insomnia, using a prospective cohort of community residents.Patients and Methods: This study was a prospective cohort study. Participants aged ≥ 65 years from the “Locomotive Syndrome and Health Outcomes in Aizu Cohort Study (LOHAS)” conducted in 2008 formed our study population. LSS was diagnosed using the self-administered, self-reported history questionnaire, a validated diagnostic support tool for LSS. Sleep disorder was investigated using a questionnaire during the 2-year follow-up. The impact of LSS on sleep disorder onset was analyzed after adjusting for potential confounders, such as age, sex, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, depression, and smoking habits, using propensity score matching.Results: Of the 489 participants who were followed up for two years, 38 (7.8%) had newly developed a sleep disorder in 2010. After adjusting for confounding factors, a comparison of 133 participants each in the control and LSS groups showed significantly higher frequency of new-onset sleep disorders (19 [14.3%] in the LSS group versus 6 [4.5%] in the control group).Conclusion: LSS was found to be an independent risk factor for sleep disorders.Keywords: lumbar spinal stenosis, sleep disorder, insomnia, cohort study, musculoskeletal disorder, locomotive syndrome

The mean refractive prediction error (RPE), median absolute RPE, and percentage of eyes with an absolute RPE ≤ 0.25, ≤ 0.50, ≤ 0.75, and ≤ 1.00 diopter (D) were determined for ORA and each of the IOL power formulas (Sanders–Retzlaff–Kraft/Theoretical [SRK/T], Barrett Universal II, and Haigis). Correlation analysis of postoperative residual astigmatism and factors associated with it was performed using Pearson’s and Spearman correlations in eyes with non-toric trifocal IOLs.Results: After optimization, the median absolute RPE was 0.19 D, 0.25 D, 0.20 D, and 0.26 D in eyes measured using ORA and the SRK/T, Barrett Universal II, and Haigis formulas, respectively. An absolute RPE ≤ 0.50 D after optimization was noted in 92.8%, 83.3%, 88.3%, and 81.1% of the eyes using ORA and the SRK/T (p=0.0093), Barrett Universal II (p=0.2071), and Haigis (p=0.0018) formulas, respectively, showing significant differences between ORA and the SRK/T and Haigis formulas. The mean±standard deviation subjective residual astigmatism in non-toric IOL eyes (N=76) was 0.46± 0.39 D and showed a strong positive correlation with preoperative objective refractive astigmatism (r=0.2925, p=0.0109), intraoperative ORA–measured astigmatism (r=0.5555, p< 0.0001), postoperative objective refractive astigmatism (r=0.8188, p< 0.0001), and postoperative total corneal astigmatism (TCA) (r=0.4051, p=0.0003) and a negative correlation with preoperative anterior corneal astigmatism (r=− 0.3541, p=0.0017).Conclusion: ORA is a salient tool for improving the postoperative refractive accuracy of trifocal IOL power calculations and may help in determining the need for toric IOL use in astigmatic eyes with cataracts. We report on the observation of a nonlinear intensity dependence of the terahertz radiation-induced ratchet effects in bilayer graphene with asymmetric dual-grating gate lateral lattices. These nonlinear ratchet currents are studied in structures of two designs with dual-grating gates fabricated on top of boron nitride encapsulated bilayer graphene and beneath it. The strength and sign of the photocurrent can be controllably varied by changing the bias voltages applied to individual dual-grating subgates and the back gate. The current consists of contributions insensitive to the radiation's polarization state, defined by the orientation of the radiation electric field vector with respect to the dual-grating gate metal stripes, and the circular ratchet sensitive to the radiation helicity. We show that intense terahertz radiation results in a nonlinear intensity dependence caused by electron gas heating. At room temperature, the ratchet current saturates at high intensities of the order of hundreds to several hundreds of kW cm − 2 . At T = 4 K, the nonlinearity manifests itself at intensities that are one or two orders of magnitude lower; moreover, the photoresponse exhibits a complex dependence on the intensity, including a saturation and even a change of sign with increasing intensity. This complexity is attributed to the interplay of the Seebeck ratchet and the dynamic carrier-density redistribution, which feature different intensity dependencies and nonlinear behavior of the sample's conductivity induced by electron gas heating. The latter is demonstrated by studying the THz photoconductivity. Our study demonstrates that graphene-based asymmetric dual-grating gate devices can be used as terahertz detectors at room temperature over a wide dynamic range, spanning many orders of magnitude of terahertz radiation power.
