27. Preparation of temperature-sensitive slow-release snowmelt agent by UV-irradiation grafting method.

Abstract

To achieve temperature-control or intelligent-release objectives, a slow-release salt-storage snowmelt agent (TSSA) microcapsule was prepared by UV-irradiation grafting method. Combined with swelling and contraction properties of a temperature-sensitive hydrogel, the TSSA exhibited a temperature sensitive slow-release function, excellent permeability and release difference at about 25°C. Conductivity test of its asphalt concrete sample mixed with TSSA (named AC-TSSA) showed that, by adding 4 wt% TSSA equal volume replacement of mineral powders, the conductivity of the soaking solution of AC-TSSA decreased by 56.1% after soaking for 10 days. After 10 days soaking of AC-TSSA, the increase rate of conductivity was stabled at 0.09 mS·cm−1·h−1. The high temperature stability and water stability of AC-TSSA with 5 wt% TSSA equal volume replacement of mineral powders showed that the dynamic stability and residual strength ratio increased by 1.3% and 1.1%, respectively. 33. An efficient non-destructive separation method of road marking from asphalt pavement by microwave directional heating.

Abstract

In this paper, an efficient and non-destructive separation route of road marking from asphalt pavement was reported firstly via microwave directional heating. By accurately focusing microwave energy on a thin film and making it high temperature, the markings can be easily separated from the pavement surface. Microwave heating test results showed that when 25%wt composite microwave absorbent were added to the bonding layer and impedance-matching layer respectively, the heating rate of impedance-matching marking specimen surface was 34.56℃/min, 73.72% higher than that of the control group. The marking removal efficiency was calculated via Matlab digital image processing technology, showed that the average removal efficiency of impedance-matching marking specimens were 100.00%. The above findings show that marking removal method proposed in this study could significantly reduce the difficulty of removing markings on asphalt pavements and greatly improve the removal efficiency. 36. Intramolecular Through-Space Charge Transfer Based TADF-Active Multifunctional Emitters for High Efficiency Solution-Processed OLED

Abstract

Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) has been explored actively in luminescent organic materials. Yet, realizing such TADF-active, multifunctional emitters with high emission efficiency still remains hugely challenging. In this context, a series of twist-conjugated organic molecules bearing diphenylsulfone and 9,9-dimethylacridine moieties are designed and prepared, and are found to show, in one molecule, TADF, room-temperature phosphorescence, triboluminescence, and aggregation-induced emission enhancement. In addition, remarkably high photoluminescence quantum efficiency, up to ≈100%, is achieved for these novel molecules. Single-crystal analysis and theoretical calculations reveal that the through-space charge transfer (TSCT) effect in these molecules is responsible for both the multifunctional emission and high emission efficiency. A maximum external quantum efficiency of 20.1% is achieved, which is among the highest recorded in a solution-processable device containing TSCT-based TADF materials. These results illustrate a new approach to achieving highly efficient TADF-active, multifunctional emitters.

Abstract

Relapse is the leading cause of mortality in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Among chemotherapeutics, thiopurines are key drugs in ALL combination therapy. Using whole-exome sequencing, we identified relapse-specific mutations in the phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate synthetase 1 gene (PRPS1), which encodes a rate-limiting purine biosynthesis enzyme, in 24/358 (6.7%) relapsed childhood B cell ALL (B-ALL) cases. All individuals who harbored PRPS1 mutations relapsed early during treatment, and mutated ALL clones expanded exponentially before clinical relapse. Our functional analyses of PRPS1 mutants uncovered a new chemotherapy-resistance mechanism involving reduced feedback inhibition of de novo purine biosynthesis and competitive inhibition of thiopurine activation. Notably, the de novo purine synthesis inhibitor lometrexol effectively abrogated PRPS1 mutant-driven drug resistance. These results highlight the importance of constitutive activation of the de novo purine synthesis pathway in thiopurine resistance, and they offer therapeutic strategies for the treatment of relapsed and thiopurine-resistant ALL., Relapsed ALL remains a leading cause of mortality among all childhood malignancies in spite of risk-stratified combination therapy and improved supportive care (1). Abstract

Schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease of humans caused by blood flukes of the genus Schistosoma, the only dioecious parasitic flatworm. Although aspects of sex determination, differentiation and reproduction have been studied in some Schistosoma species, almost nothing is known for Schistosoma japonicum, the causative agent of schistosomiasis japonica. This mainly reflects the lack of high‐quality genomic and transcriptomic resources for this species. As current genomes for S. japonicum are highly fragmented, we assembled and report a chromosome‐level reference genome (seven autosomes, the Z‐chromosome and partial W‐chromosome), achieving a substantially enhanced gene annotation. Utilizing this genome, we discovered that the sex chromosomes of S. japonicum and its congener S. mansoni independently suppressed recombination during evolution, forming five and two evolutionary strata, respectively. By exploring the W‐chromosome and sex‐specific transcriptomes, we identified 35 W‐linked genes and 257 female‐preferentially transcribed genes (FTGs) from our chromosomal assembly and uncovered a signature for sex determination and differentiation in S. japonicum. These FTGs clustering within autosomes or the Z‐chromosome exhibit a highly dynamic transcription profile during the pairing of female and male schistosomula, thereby representing a critical phase for the maturation of the female worms and suggesting distinct layers of regulatory control of gene transcription at this development stage. Collectively, these data provide a valuable resource for further functional genomic characterization of S. japonicum, shed light on the evolution of sex chromosomes in this highly virulent human blood fluke, and provide a pathway to identify novel targets for development of intervention tools against schistosomiasis. Abstract

The Gram-negative bacterium Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae is the etiologic agent of porcine contagious pleuropneumoniae, a lethal respiratory infectious disease causing great economic losses in the swine industry worldwide. In order to better interpret the genetic background of serotypic diversity, nine genomes of A. pleuropneumoniae reference strains of serovars 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 were sequenced by using rapid high-throughput approach. Based on 12 genomes of corresponding serovar reference strains including three publicly available complete genomes (serovars 3, 5b, and 7) of this bacterium, we performed a comprehensive analysis of comparative genomics and first reported a global genomic characterization for this pathogen. Clustering of 26,012 predicted protein-coding genes showed that the pan genome of A. pleuropneumoniae consists of 3,303 gene clusters, which contain 1,709 core genome genes, 822 distributed genes, and 772 strain-specific genes. The genome components involved in the biogenesis of capsular polysaccharide and lipopolysaccharide O antigen relative to serovar diversity were compared, and their genetic diversity was depicted. Our findings shed more light on genomic features associated with serovar diversity of A. pleuropneumoniae and provide broader insight into both pathogenesis research and clinical/epidemiological application against the severe disease caused by this swine pathogen. doi: 10.1128/JB.00535-10
