The static recrystallization and strain-induced precipitation behavior of Ti and Ti-Zr low carbon microalloyed steels were studied through isothermal stress relaxation experiments at different deformation temperatures (875–1025 °C). The precipitation kinetic curves of microalloyed carbides were obtained, and the effect of Zr on the precipitation kinetics of microalloyed carbides was analyzed. Two static recrystallization kinetic models were established, and the activation energies for static recrystallization of Ti steel and Ti-Zr steel were calculated to be 312.44 and 246.59 kJ/mol, respectively. The results indicate that the addition of Zr lowers the nose point temperature of the precipitation–time–temperature curve, shortens the incubation period for the nucleation of precipitates, promotes the nucleation of strain-induced precipitates in Ti microalloyed steel, and reduces the coarsening rate of precipitates particles by an order of magnitude. In addition, the addition of Zr also advances the end time of static recrystallization of deformed austenite, inhibits the growth of static recrystallization austenite grains in Ti steel during the isothermal process, and makes the austenite grains finer and more uniform. In this study, a 780 MPa grade ferritic-bainitic dual-phase steel with excellent matching of strength-plasticity and formability was developed using thermomechanical control processing. Optical microscopy, Scanning electron microscopy, and Electron Backscatter Diffraction techniques were used to characterize the microstructure comprehensively, and the effects of coiling temperature on the microstructure, the strength-plasticity, and hole-expansion ratio of the test steels were thoroughly investigated. The results showed that the test steel had an excellent combination of ferrite and bainite at the coiling temperature of 520 °C, 23.7 and 76.3%, respectively, with a hole expansion ratio of 58.5 ± 2.8%. The uniformity of the microstructure was the key to obtaining a high expansion ratio in ferrite-bainite dual-phase steels. The test steels formed granular bainite at low-temperature coiling, while polygonal ferrite was promoted at high-temperature coiling. The effect of coiling temperature on grain size is small. Dislocations were redistributed during high-temperature coiling, resulting in a decrease in dislocation density. The higher elongation and hole expansion rate at higher coiling temperatures were attributed to increased polygonal ferrite content, reduced grain size, and enhanced TRIP effect. When coiling at low temperatures, the agglomeration of polygonal ferrite or granular bainite tends to result in a non-uniform distribution of the soft and hard phases of the matrix. At the same time, the strong texture parallel to the rolling direction has a significant difference in plasticity in different directions, leading to non-uniform deformation, which is liable to stress concentration, causing crack nucleation and extension in the hole expanding process, thus reducing the hole expansion performance. For weathering steel used in building, it is necessary not only to ensure weather resistance, but also to improve the strength and yield ratio. This study investigates the strengthening effect of Ti microalloying on the tested steel by conducting continuous cooling transformation tests of undercooled austenite and comparative tests of microstructure and performance at different coiling temperatures, with 0.07 wt.% Ti added to the weathering building test steel. The results show that, with an increase in cooling rate (0.1~50 °C/s), the room temperature microstructure of different cooling rates gradually transitions as follows: F + P, F + P + B, F + B and B + M; in addition, the hardness increases. Polygonal ferrite and pearlite were obtained by coiling at 650 °C; quasi-polygonal ferrite, acicular ferrite, pearlite and a small amount of bainite were obtained by coiling at 600 °C; and bainite was obtained by coiling at 550 °C. With a decrease in coiling temperature, the strength of the test steel increased, the yield ratio increased, the elongation after fracture decreased and the elongation at the yield point decreased. Compared with those observed at 650 °C, the nano precipitation phases observed in the sample at 600 °C were smaller in size, higher in number and higher in dislocation density. The combined action of second-phase precipitation strengthening and dislocation strengthening increased the strength and yield ratio of the test steel.
