A series of Co2−xRuxMnSi (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1) Heusler compounds were successfully synthesized. The heat-treatment conditions were crucial to make the materials form a single phase with a Heusler structure. With increasing Ru content, the half-metallic gap, lattice parameters and magnetization are continuously adjustable in a wide range. The Co2−xRuxMnSi (x = 0, 0.25) compounds are rigorous half-metals and show a T3 dependence of resistance at low temperature. The Co2−xRuxMnSi (x = 0.5, 0.75, 1) Heusler compounds are the nearly half-metallic materials and show a semiconductive dependence of resistance at low temperature. The experimental magnetization is consistent with that in theory and follows the Slater–Pauling rule. The Curie temperature is higher than 750 K for all Co2−xRuxMnSi Heusler compounds.

This paper describes the work to design a composite bladed marine propeller. The hydrodynamic load and the nonlinear structural responses are predicted by the coupled FEM/CFD method. A pre-twist strategy is used to determine a new geometry of the composite bladed propeller for improving the hydrodynamic performance. Different material schemes and symmetric stacking sequences are considered as the design parameters. An evaluation method of multi-objective function is presented for optimizing the strength, deflection and mass at design conditions. In this work, the influences of CCl4 on the metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) growth of InN were studied for the first time. It was found that the addition of CCl4 can effectively suppress the formation of metal indium (In) droplets during InN growth, which was ascribed to the etching effect of Cl to In. However, with increasing of CCl4 flow, the InN growth rate decreased but the lateral growth of InN islands was enhanced. This provides a possibility of promoting islands coalescence toward a smooth surface of the InN film by MOCVD. The influence of addition of CCl4 on the electrical properties was also investigated. This work presents a study of the correlation between the electrical properties and the structural defects in nominally undoped InN films. It is found that the density of edge-type threading dislocations (TDs) considerably affects the electron concentration and mobility in InN films. The Hall-effect measured electron concentration increases, while the Hall mobility decreases with the increase in the edge-type TD density. With the combination of secondary ion mass spectrometry and positron annihilation analysis, we suggest that donor-type point defects at the edge-type TD lines may serve as dominant donors in InN films and affect the carrier mobility. The effect of thermal annealing on the luminescence properties of neon implanted GaN thin films was studied. Low temperature photoluminescence (PL) measurements were carried out on the samples implanted with different doses ranging from 1014 to 9 × 1015 cm[?]2 and annealed isochronally at 800 and 900 °C. We observed a new peak appearing at 3.44 eV in the low temperative PL spectra of all the implanted samples after annealing at 900 °C. This peak has not been observed in the PL spectra of implanted samples annealed at 800 °C except for the samples implanted with the highest dose. The intensity of the yellow luminescence (YL) band noticed in the PL spectra measured after annealing was observed to decrease with the increase in dose until it was completely suppressed at a dose of 5 × 1015 cm[?]2. The appearance of a new peak at 3.44 eV and dose dependent suppression of the YL band are attributed to the dissociation of VGaON complexes caused by high energy ion implantation. The contribution of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) to timely discharge of the placenta from bovine uterus at parturition is yet inconclusive, partly because of the presence of multiple MMP forms in situ. In the current study, the expression of different gelatinase subtypes on non-retaining placentas of Holstein cows was fingerprinted by using gelatin zymography. Different topographic regions on the placenta were measured separately, including the placentome-like structure and the fetal and maternal sides of interplacentomal placenta, all sampled from the central and peripheral areas of the placenta, respectively. The spontaneously ruptured umbilical cords were cross-sectioned as fetus end, middle and placenta end also for separate measurement. Body fluids including blood samples from the parturient cows, their neonatal calves and umbilical cord, as well as fetal fluids and the first colostrum were measured concomitantly. Results showed multiple forms of gelatinases subtypes in the placenta tissues and body fluids, including neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL)-MMP-9 complex, both the latent and active forms of MMP-2 and MMP-9; of them, the latent forms were much more abundantly and frequently expressed than the active forms. NGAL-MMP-9 complex was more prevalently present in the body fluids than in the placenta tissues. No distinguishable pattern of the expression of any gelatinase subtype was observed among the placentome-like structure, interplacentomal placenta and umbilical cord, or between fetal and maternal sides. Nonetheless, for interplacentomal placenta, proMMP-9 expression was higher in the central than in the peripheral area. In addition, proMMP-2 expression was higher in the rupture end (fetus end) than the placenta end of the umbilical cord. In conclusion, the current validated gelatin zymography detected a gradient proMMP-9 expression on the non-retaining placenta of cows in reverse to the proximity to the umbilical insertion point, and a gradient proMMP-2 expression on a section of the umbilical cord in reverse to the proximity to the rupture site, suggesting roles played by gelatinases in normal discharge of the placenta at term.

SARS-CoV-2 nonstructural protein 13 (nsp13) has been shown to selectively suppress the transcription of episomal DNA while sparing chromosomal DNA. Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) harbors covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA), a form of viral episomal DNA found within infected hepatocyte nuclei. The persistence of cccDNA is the major cause of chronic HBV infection. In this study, we investigated the impact of SARS-CoV-2 nsp13 on HBV replication, particularly in the context of cccDNA. Our findings demonstrate that nsp13 effectively hinders HBV replication by suppressing the transcription of HBV cccDNA, both in vitro and in vivo . Additionally, we observed that SARS-CoV-2 nsp13 binds to HBV cccDNA and its NTPase and helicase activities contribute significantly to inhibiting HBV replication. Furthermore, our screening identified the interaction between nsp13 and structural maintenance of chromosomes 4, opening new avenues for future mechanistic inquiries. This study presents the evidence suggesting the potential utilization of SARS-CoV-2 nsp13 as a strategy to impede HBV replication by specifically targeting cccDNA. These findings provide a proof of concept for exploring nsp13 as a prospective approach in combating HBV infection., Importance: To effectively combat hepatitis B virus (HBV), it is imperative to develop potent antiviral medications targeting covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA). Our investigation aimed to assess the impact of SARS-CoV-2 nsp13 on HBV replication across diverse HBV models, confirming its ability to significantly reduce several HBV replication markers. Additionally, our identification of the interaction between nsp13 and SMC4 opens the door for further mechanistic exploration. This marks a paradigm shift in our approach to HBV antiviral therapy, introducing an entirely novel perspective.
