Abstract

A study was conducted to examine the association of serum paraoxonase (PON1) with reconstituted high-density lipoprotein (rHDL) carrying apolipoprotein E, and its consequences on the stability and enzymatic activity of PON1, and on its anti-atherogenic potential. The reconstituted HDL particles prepared with two most common isoforms of apoE (apoE3 and apoE4) was found to associate with rePON1 in a mode and affinity similar to those of apoA-I and the reconstituted apoE-HDL exhibited properties similar to those of apoA-I-HDL, but with a lower capacity to stabilize PON1 and to induce its anti-atherogenic functions.
