Global attention continues to focus on the quality of teaching, teacher quality, teacher education programs and the preparation of graduates who are ready to teach. This self-study research focuses on one aspect of the preparation and assessment of graduates for teaching: the marking and moderation of a Teaching Assessment Performance (TPA), a mandated assessment tool implemented in Australian universities and education institutions that is used as one key determinant to assess graduate readiness for the profession. While there is a developing field of research related to the implementation and effectiveness of TPAs, less is known about the teacher educator expertise required to mark and moderate these assessments. The purpose of this self-study, conducted at Federation University, a regional university in Australia, aimed to identify and examine teacher educator marker and moderator experience and expertise through the establishment of a professional learning community (PLC). Using audio-recorded transcripts of team meetings and teacher educator vignettes, the data were analysed using NVivo and were individually and collectively categorised and coded. Reflecting in and on our practice, we focused on critical moments, interactions, and experiences to interrogate the data. The key themes included: (1) collaboration through marking and moderation; (2) reflection through critical engagement; (3) growth as a teacher educator and (4) enactment in teacher educator practice. This self-study of practice, using a PLC, enabled us to make our often-tacit knowledge, understanding and expertise explicit, and provided frameworks and structures for enacting this new knowledge in practice.

Purpose: Broadly speaking, student voice can be defined as initiatives that involve consultation of, feedback from, and engagement with students regarding their own education. This study's aim was to explore teachers' experiences and perceptions of enacting student voice in primary physical education. Method: Participants included six primary school health and physical education specialist teachers within Victoria, Australia. Data were collected via six rich and detailed one-on-one semistructured interviews. Results: Three main themes include: (a) "same-same but different" highlighting participants' varying conceptualizations and enactment of student voice, (b) "language matters" emphasizing the importance of language used when discussing and implementing student voice, and (c) "barriers and challenges to implementation" capturing participants' experience and limiting factors to the enactment of student voice practices. Discussion/Conclusion: Grounded in education for transformation and patterns of partnership theories, the discussion focuses on the disassociation between teachers' perceived understanding and enactment and the implications for students resulting from the misalignment. The transition from teacher to teacher-educator is significant. However, teacher educators are typically dropped into teaching at the tertiary level, with little professional preparation, induction or professional learning to be able to teach in this new context. As a result, this transition can be challenging. Despite a growing body of research on the transition from teacher to teacher-educator, little is known about how Physical Education (PE) teachers transition to becoming Physical Education teacher educators and faculty members. This collaborative autoethnography explores the journey of an early career PE teacher educator transitioning while navigating the tension between his teaching and academic habitus, supported by a critical friend going through the same career stage. Reflections were collected through reflective field notes and audio summaries and were explored through ongoing discussions with a critical friend. Ultimately, this project provided a unique insight into how PE teachers transition from teacher to teacher educator and how they can re-think and re-contextualize many of the practices they embodied as teachers, particularly with the support of a critical friend. This process was transformative for both teacher educators and concludes with a call for other Early Career Academics (ECA) to engage in a similar process to strengthen their transition into teacher education. The use of ethnographic approaches to study social settings has been steadily increasing over the last several decades. However, relatively few studies have been conducted with children, particularly in physical activity settings. This dearth of research may be due to the reported challenges of trying to 'fit in' in the world of children. This autoethnographic study provides insight into the approach utilised to conduct an ethnographic study with children and to become a 'friendly adult' in their world. The original six-month project focused on examining a cohort of 5–8year-old children to try and understand their engagement and relationship with physical culture. The project, conducted at a school in Victoria, utilised a range of ethnographic and child-centred methods to examine children's engagement in PE and on the playground. This autoethnographic exploration provided the primary author the ability to reflect on and unpack his ethnographic approach to gain a deeper insight into his role in the project. This study investigates the challenges and opportunities that the primary author faced in trying to study the lives of these children. These challenges and opportunities included, embracing and engaging with past experiences; balancing roles as a former teacher; and maintaining a 'friendly adult' role. Being accepted into the world of the children required navigating these challenges and using them as opportunities to engage with the children as the gatekeepers of the research. Exploring these challenges and opportunities provided significant insight into how to engage with children in ethnographic research and build trust and rapport. Public health policy and interventions seek to arrest declining physical activity rates in childhood. Two prominent settings for intervening in childhood physical activity are schools and the home. This paper critically examines how these two spaces are constructed in a way that leads to different physical activity outcomes for children in their early primary years. We draw on child-centred ethnographic fieldwork conducted with a cohort of Year 1/2 (5–8 years) students in a public primary school in Australia over a six-month period, and as well as on Bourdieusean concepts of field, capital, and habitus. The results show that many participants perceived the home to be a much safer environment for physical self-expression compared to physical education and the school playground. The way these spaces are constructed leads to the privileging of certain physical activity habitus (PAH), while some children must manage a divided habitus across these settings, which can increasingly create internal tensions over time. We conclude with a call to utilise theoretically informed approaches to better understand the complex processes occurring across the spaces, and to utilise this insight to develop more nuanced efforts to engage children in physical activity. The drop off in physical activity (PA) for children has led to an increased focus on their PA engagement, due to the poor health outcomes often linked to this decline. Subsequently, stakeholders, across a variety of fields, have problematised and intervened in activity settings to address this decline. Many of these studies acknowledge high levels of activity in the primary years and tend to prioritise their efforts on the adolescent years. An important limitation in these studies is that they greatly overlook how a decline might also be related to children's physical engagement in early childhood. To gain more insight on the role that early PA engagement may play in long-term PA participation, this paper examines early physical engagement through a focus on year one/ two students across three PA spaces – the home, the physical education (PE) class and the playground. Data was collected through a range of ethnographic and child-centred methods and examined using a Bourdieusian lens. This analysis shows that engagement in PA starts as a confluence between the physically active habitus, sport-focused PE and the sportised playground, which produces different patterns of engagement. This paper offers an in-depth examination of this process across the three spaces and identifies how these outcomes become habitualised over the course of primary school, which may play a role in affecting long-term participation.
