El objetivo de la investigación fue estimar el ingreso económico en un sistema cacaotal a partir de la sustitución de árboles de sombra muertos por árboles de pimienta y pronosticar el comportamiento del agroecosistema cacaotal al enriquecimiento con especies de alto valor comercial. Se realizó la investigación en los predios El Cometa y La Ceiba ubicados en el municipio de Comalcalco, Tabasco. En el sitio El Cometa, se registró la cantidad de árboles de pimienta, en cada una de ellas se midieron el diámetro a la altura del pecho, altura total, fuste limpio y se registró la cantidad de producción por árbol. Además, se registró la última producción de la cosecha obtenida para el cacao. En el segundo sitio, La Ceiba, se registró la cantidad de árboles forestales asociadas con el sistema agroforestal cacao. Para cada árbol se midió el DAP, altura total y fuste limpio. Con esto se obtuvo el área basal por individuo, para luego calcular el volumen comercial (vc) total de cada especie. Obtenido el vc (m3r) se obtuvo el precio de cada especie para ser colocado en el mercado. Cedrela odorata (L.) Gaertn, Swietenia macrophylla King y Ceiba pentandra (L.) Gaertn., estas fueron las especies que registran un mejor valor en el mercado de la madera nacional e internacional.

La migración es una estrategia de supervivencia aplicada en contextos de pobreza, para aliviar la problemática de salarios bajos y necesidades familiares atendidas ineficientemente. El objetivo fue realizar una comparación del manejo tecnológico de las actividades agropecuarias que realizaron las familias antes y después de migrar en el municipio de Jamapa, Veracruz, desde el año 1979 hasta 2008. Se realizó una encuesta a 45 familias con migrantes, utilizando un cuestionario con 115 preguntas cerradas, durante el año 2009. Se observaron cambios estadísticamente significativos (McNemar, Chi2 = 18.91 y p < 0.001) con connotación negativa en el total de la tecnología usada para las actividades de maíz, frijol y ganadería bovina. La definición de cambio negativo se fundamentó en que los elementos tecnológicos que utilizaban los productores antes de migrar y que después de migrar no utilizaron, fueron 265; el grupo de elementos tecnológicos con cambio positivo que antes no usaban y después sí utilizaron fue de 173 elementos. Puede concluirse que el flujo migratorio ha influido negativamente en los cultivos de maíz (Chi2= 122.49, p < 0.001) y frijol (Chi2 = 98.09, p < 0.001), pero positivamente en la actividad de ganadería (Chi2 = 116.48, p < 0.001). De esa manera, la economía de las familias con migrantes en los agroecosistemas de Jamapa mejoró, pero se redujo la diversidad de actividades agropecuarias. ABSTRACT Migration is a survival strategy that is applied in situations of poverty, to lighten the problem of low salaries and inefficiently managed family needs. The purpose of this study was to compare the technological management of farming activities, applied by families before and after migrating, from 1979 to 2008 in the municipality of Jamapa, Veracruz. A survey was applied to 45 families with migrants, with a questionnaire of 115 closed questions, during the year 2009. Statistically significant changes were observed (McNemar, Chi2 = 18.91 and p < 0.001) with negative results for all technology used in activities related to maize, beans and cattle. The definition of a negative change was based on the fact that the technological elements that the producers used before migrating and no longer used afterwards were 265; the group of technological elements with a positive change, that is, which they did not use before and did use afterwards was 173. It may be concluded that migration has had a negative effect on maize (Chi2 = 122.49, p < 0.001) and bean (Chi2 = 98.09, p < 0.001) crops, and a positive effect on cattle ranching (Chi2 = 116.48, p < 0.001). Thus, the economy of families with migrants, in the agroecosystems of Jamapa, has improved, but the diversity of farm activities has decreased.

A new species of scorpion is described based on a rare entire adult male preserved in a cloudy amber from Miocene rocks in the Chiapas Highlands, south of Mexico. The amber-bearing beds in Chiapas constitute a Conservation Lagerstätte with outstanding organic preservation inside plant resin. The new species is diagnosed as having putative characters that largely correspond with the genus Tityus Koch, 1836 (Scorpiones, Buthidae). Accordingly, it is now referred to as Tityus apozonalli sp. nov. Its previously unclear phylogenetic relationship among fossil taxa of the family Buthidae from both Dominican and Mexican amber is also examined herein. Preliminarily results indicate a basal condition of T. apozonalli regarding to Tityus geratus Santiago-Blay and Poinar, 1988, Tityus (Brazilotityus) hartkorni Lourenço, 2009, and Tityus azari Lourenço, 2013 from Dominican amber, as was Tityus (Brazilotityus) knodeli Lourenço, 2014 from Mexican amber. Its close relationships with extant Neotropic Tityus-like subclades such as 'Tityus clathratus' and the subgenus Tityus (Archaeotityus) are also discussed. This new taxon adds to the knowledge of New World scorpions from the Miocene that are rarely found trapped in amber.

ste estudio fue realizado en el ejido Francisco I. Madero del Plan Chontalpa, Tabasco. El objetivo fue conocer los problemas que afectan la producción, la comercialización y el ingreso que aporta a los productores con relación a la Unidad de Producción Familiar. El método de diagnóstico aplicado fue el sondeo rural participativo, el análisis económico y de series históricas de superficie y producción del cacao en el Plan Chontalpa del periodo de 1968 a 1998. Se encontró que la baja productividad estaba relacionada con: la edad avanzada de las plantaciones; el deficiente control de plagas y enfermedades; el inadecuado drenaje del suelo en épocas de lluvias; la baja aplicación de fertilizantes; el manejo inadecuado de las sombras en el cacaotal y la nula asistencia técnica y capacitación a productores, así como los insuficientes apoyos del estado a la producción. En este estudio de campo, los resultados muestran que la producción de cacao en el ejido de estudio aporta a las familias campesinas entre 42% y 86% de ingresos netos. Se encontró que los ingresos de los productores se vieron afectados por los bajos precios y por los bajos rendimientos por hectárea. Además los programas gubernamentales existentes a través de Alianza para el Campo fueron insuficientes para el productor. Es urgente un programa estratégico estatal y nacional, que tenga como misión el rescate de este sistema de producción campesina diversificada, la cual por más de 500 años ha demostrado su sostenibilidad ecológica y económica en la región.

l objetivo del estudio fue caracterizar el sistema de ganado bovino de Doble Propósito (DP) de la región 01 Centro de Chiapas, México y los factores socioeconómicos, tecnológicos y comerciales que limitan la producción. El estudio se desarrollo de octubre de 2007 a mayo de 2008. Se aplicó una encuesta aleatoria de 246 productores de una población de 1240 productores, correspondientes a nueve municipios de los 22 que conforma la región 01 Centro de Chiapas. Se analizaron variables cuantitativas, calculando medias aritméticas y porcentajes. En las variables cualitativas se realizaron tablas de frecuencias. Los datos fueron analizados utilizando el paquete estadístico Statistic ® 6.0. Los resultados del estudio mostraron que la edad promedio de los productores fue de 50 años y con nivel de estudio de sexto de primaria promedio, 62 % son pequeños propietarios con un promedio de 26 ha y los ejidatarios representan solo 38 % con un promedio de 10 ha. La genética de los hatos está formada de ganado cebú/suizo (63 %), el ingreso económico es la ordeña (67 %), con producción promedio diario del hato de 54 l y el precio de venta del litro de leche a $2.62. Así mismo, 61 % de los productores realizan la comercialización de ganado y leche en el rancho. Aún no existe la organización empresarial y no han innovado tecnología para mejorar los procesos de comercialización.

The degradation of acetaminophen (ACET) was studied with TiO2-Ag catalysts, whose predominant crystalline phase was anatase, synthesized by the sol–gel method and doped by photo-deposition under UV radiation with silver particles. The catalyst was characterized by energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) and X-ray diffraction (DRX). The acetaminophen degradation was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and total organic carbon (TOC). The reaction behavior was studied under the Langmuir–Hinshelwood (LH-HW) equation and in a TOC-based model. With the experimental data, mass balances were performed to introduce the constants (reaction and adsorption kinetics) to the LH-HW equation. With the analysis of the generation and consumption behavior of the organic intermediate compounds (OI), coupled differential equations were generated, which express the degradation and formation-consumption behavior. The kinetic constants were obtained by nonlinear regression using the Levenberg–Marquardt equation. The results show high removal percentages, and the behavior of the experimental data is assumed to fit the LH-HW equation. The analysis of the organic intermediates by solid phase micro-extraction (SPE), HPLC and gas chromatography (CG-MS), shows that the transformation is feasible under the formation of nitro-aromatic derivatives and hydroxylated species.

In the present study the effect that controlled structural modifications have on the physical and conformational properties of a series of isomeric aromatic polyamides synthesized with different bulky pendant lateral groups was investigated. Physical properties of the aromatic polyamides such as thermal properties were determined by differential scanning calorimetry. Structural changes were determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, density and fractional free volume (FFV). Light scattering and dynamic-mechanical analysis were used to characterize the thermodynamic and kinetic rigidity. Vogel's model was applied to evaluate kinetic rigidity in polyamide chains and the results were compared with physical properties data. It was found that there was a relationship between Tg and the conformational entropy determined by the structure which indicates that the higher the level of rigidity in the polyamide the higher the value of Tg. For kinetic rigidity, it was found that the relaxation time at infinite temperature Ba, was very close to the value 5 × 10-12s, reported for other amorphous glassy materials. There was also a relationship between the activation energy of the glass transition U∞ and FFV, which is determined by the presence or absence of the bulky functional groups, indicating that the smaller the FFV, the higher the energy required for the glass transition to take place. A four stage semi-pilot scale RFR reactor with ceramic disks as support for TiO2 modified with silver particles was developed for the removal of organic pollutants. The design presented in this article is an adaptation of the rotating biological reactors (RBR) and its coupling with the modified catalyst provides additional advantages to designs where a catalyst in suspension is used. The optimal parameter of rotation was 54 rpm and the submerged surface of the disks offer a total contact area of 387 M2. The modified solid showed a decrease in the value of its bandgap compared to commercial titanium. The system has a semi-automatic operation with a maximum reaction time of 50 h. Photo-activity tests show high conversion rates at low concentrations. The results conform to the Langmuir heterogeneous catalysis model.
