Abstract Understanding the structures and reaction mechanisms of interfacial active sites in the Fisher-Tropsch synthesis reaction is highly desirable but challenging. Herein, we show that the ZrO2-Ru interface could be engineered by loading the ZrO2 promoter onto silica-supported Ru nanoparticles (ZrRu/SiO2), achieving 7.6 times higher intrinsic activity and ~45% reduction in the apparent activation energy compared with the unpromoted Ru/SiO2 catalyst. Various characterizations and theoretical calculations reveal that the highly dispersed ZrO2 promoter strongly binds the Ru nanoparticles to form the Zr-O-Ru interfacial structure, which strengthens the hydrogen spillover effect and serves as a reservoir for active H species by forming Zr-OH* species. In particular, the formation of the Zr-O-Ru interface and presence of the hydroxyl species alter the H-assisted CO dissociation route from the formyl (HCO*) pathway to the hydroxy-methylidyne (COH*) pathway, significantly lowering the energy barrier of rate-limiting CO dissociation step and greatly increasing the reactivity. This investigation deepens our understanding of the metal-promoter interaction, and provides an effective strategy to design efficient industrial Fisher-Tropsch synthesis catalysts.

Abstract The limited surface coverage and activity of active hydrides on oxide surfaces pose challenges for efficient hydrogenation reactions. Herein, we quantitatively distinguish the long-puzzling homolytic dissociation of hydrogen from the heterolytic pathway on Ga2O3, that is useful for enhancing hydrogenation ability of oxides. By combining transient kinetic analysis with infrared and mass spectroscopies, we identify the catalytic role of coordinatively unsaturated Ga3+ in homolytic H2 dissociation, which is formed in-situ during the initial heterolytic dissociation. This site facilitates easy hydrogen dissociation at low temperatures, resulting in a high hydride coverage on Ga2O3 (H/surface Ga3+ ratio of 1.6 and H/OH ratio of 5.6). The effectiveness of homolytic dissociation is governed by the Ga-Ga distance, which is strongly influenced by the initial coordination of Ga3+. Consequently, by tuning the coordination of active Ga3+ species as well as the coverage and activity of hydrides, we achieve enhanced hydrogenation of CO2 to CO, methanol or light olefins by 4-6 times.

Zhong et al report sodium-promoted metallic Ru nanoparticles for the direct production of olefins from syngas with ultrahigh carbon efficiency where the total selectivity of undesired CH4 and CO2 is suppressed to only 5% for over 500 hours on stream.

Syngas conversion is a useful technology for converting nonpetroleum carbon resources into chemicals such as olefins. Iron- and cobalt-based catalysts, as two major categories, have been extensively studied in Fischer–Tropsch synthesis to olefins (FTO) reactions. Although both iron and cobalt catalysts have shown distinct merits and shortcomings, they are also complementary in their properties and catalytic performances when combined with each other. Herein, Na-modified CoFe bimetallic catalysts were fabricated using a co-precipitation method. It was found that there was a synergistic effect between Co and Fe that promoted a CO dissociation rate and carburization, and an appropriate Co/Fe ratio was conducive to improvements in their catalytic performances. The desired olefins selectivity reached 66.1 C% at a CO conversion of 37.5% for a Co2Fe1 catalyst, while the methane selectivity was only 4.3 C%. In addition, no obvious deactivation was found after nearly 160 h, indicating their potential industrial application.

Abstract Microseismic data and production logs in our study area have confirmed asymmetric developments of the stimulation rock volume in shales with respect to the wellbore, while severe casing deformation problems have been reported frequently in this area. Here, we propose a systematic methodology to investigate the possibility of casing failure due to strong shear stresses induced by asymmetric stimulated zones. A mechanical earth modeling (MEM) is initially performed to determine the in situ stress field in the target layer before fracturing by incorporating the existing geological features, logging data, and rock anisotropy. Then, we provide a computationally cheap and efficient estimation for stimulated rock volume of each stage by considering the possible overlaps in adjacent stages based on the clustered microseismic clouds. Using this approach, a reservoir‐scale 3D coupled model tied to a more detailed near‐wellbore part incorporating the casing string and the cement sheath is established to simulate the development of stimulation zones, stress redistribution, and their impacts on casing deformation as each stage fracturing treatment chronologically goes on. Our numerical results indicate that continuous redistribution and re‐orientation of stress field near the borehole are tracked during pumping the treatment which reveals formation of some pockets of tensile stresses along and around the wellbore. Asymmetric stimulations are observed to generate strong shear stress on the suspended casing. These shear forces result in deflection and S‐shape deformations accompanied with cross‐sectional ovality. Some regions receive repeating treatments, which results in intensifying formation stress heterogeneity and worsen casing deformation severity. The calculation results are compared with measurement of multi‐finger imaging tool (MIT) to validate the accuracy. Our analysis has indicated that simply increasing the flexural strength by increasing thickness of casing cannot radically mitigate casing deformation problems. This paper presents a novel workflow for a coupled modeling of casing deformation during hydraulic fracturing operations, while current modeling efforts assume symmetric bi‐wing fracture geometries.

The change of velocity and pressure of flow field in suction and discharge chamber of five-cylinder plunger pump obtained by CFD under maximum and minimum stroke, the results show that: when the stroke is 79 rpm, the internal of pump head will produce pressure holding, and the internal organization of pump head body will be in a fatigue state of high pressure for a long time. When the rotate angle is small, the peak velocity at the gap of valve disc and valve seat reaches 9.60 m/s, which is the orifice jet phenomenon. When the stroke is 299 rpm, the overall velocity curve is relatively stable, but the velocity of fluid flow through the pump head body is larger, and the maximum velocity reaches 18.72 m/s at the bottom corner of valve, it will produce the circumfluence and vortex discharge chamber at the same time, which will cause the increase of vibration of pump head body. At the high or extra-high temperatures in a natural gas oilfield, where the premium connection is employed by casing, gas leakage in the wellbore is always detected after several years of gas production. As the viscoelastic material’s mechanical properties change with time and temperature, the relaxation of the contact pressure on the connection sealing surface is the main reason for the gas leakage in the high-temperature gas well. In this article, tension-creep experiments were conducted. Furthermore, a constitutive model of the casing material was established by the Prony series method. Moreover, the Prony series’ shift factor was calculated to study the thermo-rheological behavior of the casing material ranging from 120°C to 300°C. A linear viscoelastic model was implemented in ABAQUS, and the simulation results are compared to our experimental data to validate the methodology. Finally, the viscoelastic finite element model is applied to predict the relaxation of contact pressure on the premium connections’ sealing surface versus time under different temperatures. And, the ratio of the design contact pressure and the intending gas sealing pressure is recommended for avoiding the premium connections failure in the high-temperature gas well.

The casing is subjected to complicated forces underground, and the threaded joint of the casing is the weak link of the casing. becoming more and more severe, various kinds of failure accidents often occur in practical use. Therefore, in view of the casing thread fracture failure during the process of volumetric fracturing in well W of an oil field. The finite element model of 5-1/2"API casing long round threaded joint was established in this paper, ABAQUS software was used to simulate and analyze the stress and deformation of casing thread under the loading state of overlock, axial tension and pressure, and fracturing internal pressure. The results show that the stress distribution of teeth is reasonable. Under the condition of axial tension and compression, the maximum stress of casing thread exceeds the yield strength into plasticity and causes damage. However, when fracturing and stimulation technology is implemented, the stress of the collar and casing body increases significantly, and the fracture is caused by fatigue and extended fracture under the alternating fracturing load. The finite element analysis results are consistent with the field failure results. Study the influence of downhole complex working condition on casing thread by simulation, which is of great significance to the protective casing.

Multi-stage SRV fracturing in horizontal wells is a new technology developed at home and abroad in recent years to effectively develop shale gas or low-permeability reservoirs, but on the other hand makes the mechanical environment of fracturing strings more complicated at the same time. In view of this, based on the loading features of tubing strings during the multi-stage fracturing of a horizontal well, mechanical models were established for three working cases of multiple packer setting, open differential-pressure sliding sleeve, and open ball-injection sliding sleeve under a hold-down packer. Moreover, mathematical models were respectively built for the above three cases. According to the Lame formula and Von Mises stress calculation formula for the thick-walled cylinder in the theory of elastic mechanics, a mathematical model was also established to calculate the equivalent stress for tubing string safety evaluation when the fracturing string was under the combined action of inner pressure, external squeezing force and axial stress, and another mathematical model was built for the mechanical strength and safety evaluation of multi-stage fracturing strings. In addition, a practical software was developed for the mechanical safety evaluation of horizontal well multi-stage fracturing strings according to the mathematical model developed for the mechanical calculation of the multi-packer string in horizontal wells. The research results were applied and verified in a gas well of Tahe Oilfield in the Tarim Basin with excellent effects, providing a theoretical basis and a simple and reliable technical means for optimal design and safety evaluation of safe operational parameters of multi-stage fracturing strings in horizontal wells.

A large number of casing failures occur during the volume fracturing operation of shale gas, making normal completion stimulations impossible. To solve this problem, rock mechanical experiments and numerical simulation experiments are carried out in this article. It is found that the macroscopic rock mechanical strength reduces most when the crack angle of fissured rock in Longmaxi Formation is 45°, and it reduces stably when the number of cracks increases to 8. The elasticity modulus ratio, yield strength ratio, and compressive strength ratio are 0.70, 0.71, and 0.68, respectively, based on which this article establishes the finite element model for shale gas well X201. Then, the secondary development realizes the dynamic adjustment of the rock mechanical properties during the fracturing. The correctness of method and model in the article is verified through comparing the simulated calculation of casing deformation and the field multi-arm caliper logging data. The casing failure mechanism is revealed, providing a theoretical basis for the prevention of casing failure caused by shale gas fracturing.

Aimed at studying the casing wear in the highly deviated well drilling, the experimental study on the casing wear was carried out in the first place. According to the test data and the linear wear model based on the energy dissipation proposed by White and Dawson, the tool joint–casing wear coefficient was obtained. The finite element model for casing wear mechanism research was established using ABAQUS. The nodal movement of the contact surface was employed to simulate the evolution of the wear depth, exploiting the Umeshmotion user subroutine. In addition, the time-dependent geometry of the contact surfaces between the tool joint and casing was being updated continuously. Consequently, the contact area and contact pressure were changed continuously during the casing wear process, which gives a more realistic simulation. Based on the shapes of worn casing, the numerical simulation research was carried out to determine the remaining collapse strength. Then the change curve of the maximum casing wear depth with time was obtained. Besides, the relationship between the maximum wear depth and remaining collapse strength was established to predict the maximum wear depth and the remaining strength of the casing after a period of accumulative wear, providing a theoretical basis for the safety assessment of worn casing.

The chemical compositions of black teas differ greatly and may have different health benefits; however, systematic investigations into such benefits are lacking. Here, the chemical profiles of Keemun black tea (KBT) and Dianhong black tea (DBT), two common categories of tea in China, were analyzed, and their lipid-lowering effects in male C57BL/6 mice fed a high-fat diet (60% energy from fat) or the diet supplemented with 2% black tea powder for 15 weeks were investigated. The compounds most crucial in differentiating KBT and DBT were determined to be phenolic compounds, theanine, and D-psicose. DBT was more effective than KBT in preventing excess hepatic fat accumulation. Both black teas effectively and comparably altered the mRNA levels of hepatic lipid–metabolizing genes. DBT had more favorable effects in stimulating fecal fat excretion than did KBT. The differentiating compounds with the higher values of variable importance in the projection (VIP) might predominantly contribute to the different health benefits; however, the most essential compound or combination of compounds requires clarification.

With the development of drilling technology and reinforced exploration and exploitation of unconventional reservoirs, there has been a great increase of complex wells. Meanwhile, however, consequent casing wear is and will continue to be a serious problem that causes enormous economic losses and many safety issues. The purpose of this paper is to find out the mechanism of casing wear and establish casing wear prediction model. Casing wear experiment was carried out to study the effect of contact force, rotation speed, and casing grade on wear depth. Meanwhile, wear coefficients under different working conditions were obtained through the normalizing of data. With the extensive research of downhole drag and torque calculation method, a contact force calculation model was established. Through the combination of crescent-shaped model and wear-efficiency model, the past complicated casing wear prediction models and confusing empirical formulae were greatly simplified. Therefore, the wear volume and depth of the casing string can be accurately predicted. Finally, a prediction software was developed to predict downhole casing wear of oil and gas wells. Comparison with the field data confirmed that the established model and software had enough accuracy to help predict and analyze casing wear at field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, the features and possible causes of extreme precipitation in the winter of 2019/2020 in China are investigated based on the observational station daily dataset provided by the China Meteorological Administration and the ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis dataset. Record-breaking precipitations are found in most areas of China in the winter of 2019/2020, particularly for the north of China. The magnitude of precipitation in south (north) of China in 2019/2020 increase 0.39 mm/day (0.15 mm/day), about 39.0% (105.5%) compared with the climatological mean. Moisture budget analysis shows that contributions of atmospheric circulation anomaly on horizontal moisture advection and total moisture flux convergence are primarily responsible for the positive anomalies of precipitation in China. Further analysis suggests that the weakened East Asian Trough and the anti-cyclone circulation anomaly over the Sea of Japan favor the transportation of low-level warm and humid airflow from the Northwest Pacific and the East China Sea to the north of China. Meanwhile, the westward movement of the Subtropical High and the Southern Branch Trough anomalies transport low-level warm and humid air from the Bay of Bengal and the South China Sea to south of China. The warm moist air flows northeastward from the East China Sea, Bay of Bengal and the South China Sea while the climatological cold wind flows southeastward, which causes the increase of local precipitation in the winter of 2019/2020. In consideration of the fact that stratospheric polar vortex anomaly has a process of downward propagation to the troposphere, it is of great significance to study the changes of the stratosphere and the relationships between stratosphere and troposphere.

Abstract Lakes differ from lands in water availability, heat capacity, albedo, and roughness, which affect local surface‐atmospheric interactions. This study modified a multilevel upper ocean model (UOM) for lake applications and evaluated its performance in Lake Taihu (China) with comprehensive measurements against three popular one‐dimensional (1‐D) lake models. These models were based on different concepts, including the self‐similarity (FLake), the wind‐driven eddy diffusion (LISSS), the k‐ε turbulence closure (SIMSTRAT), and a simplified turbulence closure (UOM). The surface flux scheme in these models was unified to exclude the discrepancies in representing air‐lake exchanges. All models in their default formulations presented obvious cold water temperature biases and largely underestimated the lake surface temperature (LST) diurnal range. For each model, these deficiencies were significantly reduced by incorporating new physics schemes or calibrated tunable parameters based on systematic sensitivity tests. The primary modifications for UOM included (1) a new scheme of decreased surface roughness lengths to better characterize the shallow lake, (2) a solar radiation penetration scheme with increased light extinction coefficient and surface absorption fraction to account for the high water turbidity, and (3) turbulent Prandtl number increased by a factor of 20 to reduce the turbulent vertical mixing. All other models were improved in these three aspects (roughness, extinction, and mixing) within their original formulations. Given these improvements, UOM showed superior performance to other models in capturing LST diurnal cycle and daily to seasonal variations, as well as summer‐autumn vertical stratification changes. The new UOM is well suited for application in shallow lakes.

Zijuan tea (Camellia sinensis var. assamica cv. Zijuan) is a unique purple tea. Recently, purple tea has drawn much attention for its special flavor and health benefits. However, the characteristic compounds of purple tea compared with green tea have not been reported yet. The present study employed a non-targeted metabolomics approach based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC)-Orbitrap-tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) for comprehensive analysis of characteristic metabolites between Zijuan purple tea (ZJT) and Yunkang green tea (YKT). Partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) indicated that there are significant differences in chemical profiles between ZJT and YKT. A total of 66 major differential metabolites included catechins, proanthocyanins, flavonol and flavone glycosides, phenolic acids, amino acids and alkaloids were identified in ZJT. Among them, anthocyanins are the most characteristic metabolites. Nine glycosides of anthocyanins and six glycosides of proanthocyanins were found to be significantly higher in ZJT than that in YKT. Subsequently, pathway analysis revealed that ZJT might generate anthocyanins and proanthocyanins through the flavonol and flavone glycosides. Furthermore, quantitative analysis showed absolutely higher concentrations of total anthocyanins in ZJT, which correlated with the metabolomics results. This study presented the comprehensive chemical profiling and the characterized metabolites of ZJT. These results also provided chemical evidence for potential health functions of ZJT.

A new cerebroside, 1-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(2S,3R,8E)-2-[(2’R)-2-hydroxy- palmitoylamino]-8-octadecene-1,3-diol, along with aralia cerebroside and 1-O-β-D- glucopyranosyl-(2S,3S,4R,8E)-2-[(2’R)-2-hydroxybehenoylamino]-8-octadecene-1,3,4-triol were isolated from the roots of Serratula chinensis S. Moore. The structure of the new cerebroside was established by spectroscopic and chemical means. Occurrence of cerebrosides in Serratula is reported here for the first time.
