Abstract Background Mind wandering is a common phenomenon in daily life. However, the manifestations and cognitive correlates of mind wandering in different subclinical populations remain unclear. In this study, these aspects were examined in individuals with schizotypal traits and individuals with depressive symptoms, i.e., subclinical populations of patients with schizophrenia and depression. Methods Forty-two individuals with schizotypal traits, 42 individuals with subclinical depression, and 42 controls were recruited to complete a mind wandering thought sampling task (state level) and a mind wandering questionnaire (trait level). Measures of rumination and cognitive functions (attention, inhibition, and working memory) were also completed by participants. Results Both subclinical groups exhibited more state and trait mind wandering than did the control group. Furthermore, individuals with schizotypal traits demonstrated more trait mind wandering than individuals with subclinical depression. Rumination, sustained attention, and working memory were associated with mind wandering. In addition, mind wandering in individuals with subclinical depression can be accounted for by rumination or attention, while mind wandering in individuals with high schizotypal traits cannot be accounted for by rumination, attention, or working memory. Conclusions The results suggest that individuals with high schizotypal traits and subclinical depression have different patterns of mind wandering and mechanisms. These findings have implications for understanding the unique profile of mind wandering in subclinical individuals.

Abstract Developing dynamic color‐tunable ultra‐long room temperature phosphorescence (URTP) polymers with afterglow of over 1 s, photo‐chromism, and multi‐stimuli response for practical anti‐counterfeiting and information security applications is attractive but very challenging. Herein, by doping multicolor phosphorescence pyridinium bromide L block or viologen‐based photo‐chromic V block into polyvinyl alcohol matrixes, the water‐stimuli‐responsive color‐tunable URTP polymer films with afterglow of up to 8 s and the reversible viologen‐based photochromic polymer films have been developed. More significantly, a series of dynamic color‐tunable URTP polymer films with ultra‐long afterglow of over 6 s, photo‐chromism, and water‐stimuli response have been successfully exploited by integrating L and V blocks into one polymer system. Mechanistic investigations have revealed that their photo‐chromism mainly comes from the photo‐generated viologen free radicals. Furthermore, their dynamic multilevel anti‐counterfeiting applications have been demonstrated. These results pave the way to develop smarter multifunctional URTP materials for anti‐counterfeiting and optical sensing.

Abstract The immunosuppressive microenvironment caused by several intrinsic and extrinsic mechanism has brought great challenges to the immunotherapy of pancreatic cancer. We identified GFPT2, the key enzyme in hexosamine biosynthesis pathway (HBP), as an immune-related prognostic gene in pancreatic cancer using transcriptome sequencing and further confirmed that GFPT2 promoted macrophage M2 polarization and malignant phenotype of pancreatic cancer. HBP is a glucose metabolism pathway leading to the generation of uridine diphosphate N-acetylglucosamine (UDP-GlcNAc), which is further utilized for protein O-GlcNAcylation. We confirmed GFPT2-mediated O-GlcNAcylation played an important role in regulating immune microenvironment. Through cellular proteomics, we identified IL-18 as a key downstream of GFPT2 in regulating the immune microenvironment. Through CO-IP and protein mass spectrum, we confirmed that YBX1 was O-GlcNAcylated and nuclear translocated by GFPT2-mediated O-GlcNAcylation. Then, YBX1 functioned as a transcription factor to promote IL-18 transcription. Our study elucidated the relationship between the metabolic pathway of HBP in cancer cells and the immune microenvironment, which might provide some insights into the combination therapy of HBP vulnerability and immunotherapy in pancreatic cancer.

BackgroundAcetaminophen is a commonly used medication, yet its recommendation for patients with comorbid conditions of gout and hypertension is contradictory, and the impact of its usage on clinical outcomes in real-world practical settings remains uncertain. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between acetaminophen administration and clinical outcomes in critically ill patients with gout and hypertension, utilizing real-world data.MethodsA retrospective cohort study was conducted based on the MIMIC-IV (Medical Information Mart in Intensive Care-IV) database. Adult critically ill patients with gout and hypertension were included in the analysis. The exposure was acetaminophen use during ICU stay. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality. The secondary endpoints were frequent hospitalization, 30-day, and 60-day all-cause mortality, and incidence of hypertensive emergencies. Propensity score matching (PSM) was conducted at a 1:1 ratio. Multivariable analyses were used to adjust for confounders.ResultsThe pre-matched and propensity score-matched cohorts included 2448 and 1012 patients, respectively. In the PSM analysis, in-hospital mortality was 9.7% (49/506) in the acetaminophen use group and 12.1% (61/506) in the no use group. Acetaminophen use was associated with a decrease in-hospital mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 0.62; 95% CI, 0.41–0.92; P = 0.018). In terms of secondary endpoints, after PSM, there was no statistically significant difference for both 30-day and 60-day all-cause mortality reductions in the acetaminophen use group, and HRs were 0.78 (95% CI 0.55–1.11; P = 0.175), and 0.75 (95% CI 0.55–1.02; P = 0.069), respectively. According to the analysis of dosage and treatment group, the use of APAP within the dosage range of 2–4 g and within 3–5 days of treatment significantly reduced the mortality rate of the entire cohort and PSM cohort, with statistical differences. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that lower in-hospital mortality was consistent across different baselines (age, gender, BMI, liver disease, and renal disease), with no interactions in all subgroups (interaction p-values >0.05), thereby affirming the robustness and reliability of the findings.ConclusionAcetaminophen use was associated with lower in-hospital mortality in critically ill patients with gout and hypertension. Prospective studies are needed to verify this finding.

ObjectiveTo preliminarily explore the risk factors for post-infectious bronchiolitis obliterans (PIBO) complicating adenovirus pneumonia (ADVP) in children through a meta-analysis.MethodsA systematic search was conducted on three English-language databases (PubMed, Web of Science and The National Library of Medicine) and two Chinese-language databases (China National Knowledge Infrastructure and the Wanfang Database) between database inception and 1 January 2023. Data analysis was conducted using Stata 15.1 software.ResultsA total of 10 articles, reporting 14 risk factors, were included in the analysis, with 8 risk factors taken into consideration. This study proposes a new model to combine the advantages of the indirect method, neural network, and evolutionary algorithm for the optimization of long-duration, low-thrust orbit rendezvous problems in low Earth orbits. The strategy of dividing the trajectory into three stages with fixed laws of thrust (the second stage keeps coasting without thrust) in the previous studies is inherited, in which the orbit changes of each stage are the decision variables and allocated evenly to each revolution. We derive a new simplified indirect method of the single-revolution transfer to replace the fixed-direction solution when evaluating the total velocity increment in the global optimization framework based on the differential evolution algorithm. Two neural networks are trained and applied to further accelerate the solving process. A correction algorithm for obtaining the trajectory and thrust laws of high-precision numerical dynamics is also proposed. The simulation results prove that the mixed model can obtain better solutions compared with previous methods because the simplified indirect method ensures the satisfaction of the first-order necessary condition. The neural networks can avoid the time-consuming shooting process of the indirect method and decrease the optimization time to less than 1 s. Moreover, the correction algorithm just requires five iteration steps to obtain the high-precision solution. The method can be applied for both approximate mission analysis and precise trajectory generation for orbit transfers in low Earth orbits.

BackgroundDepression is a primary cause of illness and disability among teenagers, and the incidence of depression and the number of untreated young people have increased in recent years. Effective intervention for those youths could decrease the disease burden and suicide or self-harm risk during preadolescence and adolescence.ObjectiveTo verify the short efficacy of the systemic couple group therapy (SCGT) on youths’ depression changes and families with depressed adolescents.MethodsThe study was a self-control trial; only within-group changes were evaluated. Participants were couples with a depressed child who was resistant to psychotherapy; they were recruited non-randomly through convenient sampling. The paired-sample t-test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used to compare differences before and after interventions. The effect sizes were also estimated using Cohen’s d. Spearman’s correlation analysis was used to examine associations between changes.ResultsA downward trend was seen in depressive symptoms after treatment, and Cohen’s d was 0.33 (p = 0.258). The adolescents perceived fewer interparental conflicts, and the effect sizes were medium for perceived conflict frequency (0.66, p = 0.043), conflict intensity (0.73, p = 0.028), conflict solutions (0.75, p = 0.025), coping efficacy (0.68, p = 0.038), and perceived threat (0.57, p = 0.072). For parents, global communication quality, constructive communication patterns, and subjective marital satisfaction significantly improved after interventions, with large effect sizes (1.11, 0.85, and 1.03, respectively; all p < 0.001). Other destructive communication patterns such as demand/withdraw (p = 0.003) and mutual avoidance (p = 0.018) and communication strategies like verbal aggression (p = 0.012), stonewalling (p = 0.002), avoidance–capitulation (p = 0.036), and child involvement (p = 0.001) also reduced, with medium effect sizes (0.69, 0.52, 0.55, 0.71, 0.46, and 0.79, respectively). Meanwhile, the associations between depression changes and changes in interparental conflicts (p < 0.001) and marital satisfaction (p = 0.001) were significant.Conclusions and clinical relevanceThe SCGT offers the possibility for the treatment of families with depressed children who are unwilling to seek treatment. Helping parents improve communication and marital quality may have benefits on children’s depressive symptoms.

Background: Tumor genetic anomalies and immune dysregulation are pivotal in the progression of multiple myeloma (MM). Accurate patient stratification is essential for effective MM management, yet current models fail to comprehensively incorporate both molecular and immune profiles. Methods: We examined 776 samples from the MMRF CoMMpass database, employing univariate regression with LASSO and CIBERSORT algorithms to identify 15 p53-related genes and six immune cells with prognostic significance in MM. A p53-TIC (tumor-infiltrating immune cells) classifier was constructed by calculating scores using the bootstrap-multicox method, which was further validated externally (GSE136337) and through ten-fold internal cross-validation for its predictive reliability and robustness. Results: The p53-TIC classifier demonstrated excellent performance in predicting the prognosis in MM. Specifically, patients in the p53low/TIChigh subgroup had the most favorable prognosis and the lowest tumor mutational burden (TMB). Conversely, those in the p53high/TIClow subgroup, with the least favorable prognosis and the highest TMB, were predicted to have the best anti-PD1 and anti-CTLA4 response rate (40 %), which can be explained by their higher expression of PD1 and CTLA4. The three-year area under the curve (AUC) was 0.80 in the total sample. Conclusions: Our study highlights the potential of an integrated analysis of p53-associated genes and TIC in predicting prognosis and aiding clinical decision-making in MM patients. This finding underscores the significance of comprehending the intricate interplay between genetic abnormalities and immune dysfunction in MM. Further research into this area may lead to the development of more effective treatment strategies.

Abstract Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), abbreviated as liver cancer, is one of the most common cancers in clinics. HCC has a wider spread and higher incidence due to its high malignancy and metastasis. In HCC, effective strategies to block cancer cell migration, invasion, and neovascularization need to be further studied. Consumption of flavonoid-rich Oroxylum indicum (OI) has been associated with multiple beneficial effects, including anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties, but the potential effects on HCC have not been thoroughly investigated. Objective In this study, we aimed to reveal the effect of OI on HCC and its potential mechanism through microfluidic technology. Methods We designed microfluidic chips for cell migration, invasion, and neovascularization to evaluate the effect of OI on HepG2 cells. To further explore the mechanism of its anti-liver cancer action, the relevant signaling pathways were studied by microfluidic chips, RT‒qPCR and immunofluorescence techniques. Compared to the control group, cell migration, invasion, and angiogenesis were significantly reduced in each administration group. According to the P53 and VEGF pathways predicted by network pharmacology, RT‒qPCR and immunofluorescence staining experiments were conducted. Results The results showed that OI upregulated the expression of Bax, P53 and Caspase-3 and downregulated the expression of Bcl-2 and MDM2. It has been speculated that OI may directly or indirectly induce apoptosis of HepG2 cells by regulating apoptosis-related genes. OI blocks the VEGF signaling pathway by downregulating the expression levels of VEGF, HIF-1α and EGFR and inhibits the migration and invasion of HepG2 cells and the formation of new blood vessels. Conclusion Our findings suggest that OI may inhibit the migration, invasion, and neovascularization of HepG2 cells, and its regulatory mechanism may be related to the regulation of the P53 and VEGF pathways.

Akebia species, belonging to Lardizabalaceae, are widespread from subtropical to temperate environments of China, Japan, and Korea. All known Akebia species have medicinal and dietary value and have been widely cultivated as a new fruit crop in many areas of China. However, compared with other crop species, the breeding improvement and commercial cultivation of Akebia remain in their infancy. This review systematically introduces the present germplasm resources, geographical distribution, biological characteristics, interspecific and intraspecific cross compatibility, molecular biology, and breeding progress in Akebia species. Akebia plants are widely distributed in Shanxi, Henan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, and Fujian provinces of China, and wild Akebia plants exhibit abundant phenotypic and genetic diversity due to their wide range of geographical distribution and high adaptability in different habitats. Interspecific artificial hybridization experiments have been conducted in our Akebia germplasm resources nursery. The results showed that there was no reproductive isolation between Akebia species, and fertile progeny could be produced. The synthesis of knowledge on these species provides insights for the rational development and utilization of these germplasm resources, and can facilitate the development of new breeding lines or varieties for commercial cultivation or production. Finally, perspectives on Akebia breeding research are discussed and conclusions are provided. This review provided breeders with new insights into Akebia domestication and breeding, and we also proposed five basic steps in the domestication of new fruit crops.

AIM: To investigate the correlation between axial length and diabetic retinopathy(DR)in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.METHODS:This study is a cross-sectional study. A total of 53 cases(104 eyes)of type 2 diabetes patients who admitted to the ophthalmology department of the Jining No.1 People's Hospital between January and May 2023 were included. Among these cases, 51 patients had both eyes included, while 2 patients had only one eye included. The patients were divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of fundus lesions. The non-diabetic retinopathy(NDR)group consisted of 32 eyes, and the DR group consisted of 72 eyes. Within the DR group, the patients were further categorized based on the severity of fundus lesions. The non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy(NPDR)group comprised of 27 eyes, and the proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR)group consisted of 45 eyes. The axial lengths of eyes in the DR group were divided into four groups using quartiles: 19 eyes in the 20.00～22.09 mm group, 17 eyes in the 22.10～22.70 mm group, 18 eyes in the 22.71～23.12 mm group, and 18 eyes in the 23.13～24.48 mm group.
