This field study was performed to demonstrate that Bacillus aquimaris SH6 spores administered as a feed supplement in adequate amounts confer beneficial effects to the whiteleg shrimp. Shrimps were administered either B. aquimaris SH6 spores at 1×106 CFU g-1 pellet (SH6 group) or a mixture of SH6 and B. subtilis SH23 spores at 5×105 CFU g-1 pellet for each strain (SH6-SH23 group). After a 28-day feeding period, the number of SH6 spores in the gut of whiteleg shrimp in the SH6 group and the SH6-SH23 group were 5.7×103 CFU gut-1 and 7.7×103 CFU gut-1, respectively. The total bacterial population of these two experimental groups increased about 10-75% compared to that of the control group. The astaxanthin level and red colour score were the highest in the SH6-SH23 group (1.66 µg.g-1 shrimp; 28-29), followed by the SH6 spore group (1.42 µg.g-1 shrimp; 27-28), and were the lowest in the control group (0.61 µg.g-1 shrimp; 26-27). Nevertheless, the growth rate of shrimps was similar (7.8-8%) among the three groups. In conclusion, feed supplements containing SH6 and SH23 spores co-effectively improved live counts and diversity of microbiota in shrimp guts, as well as improved astaxanthin level and red colour of whiteleg shrimps.

This study explores the near-surface dispersion mechanisms of contaminants in coastal waters, leveraging a comprehensive method that includes using dye and drifters as tracers, coupled with diverse observational platforms like drones, satellites, in situ sampling, and HF radar. The aim is to deepen our understanding of surface currents’ impact on contaminant dispersion, thereby improving predictive models for managing environmental incidents such as pollutant releases. Rhodamine WT dye, chosen for its significant fluorescent properties and detectability, along with drifter data, allowed us to investigate the dynamics of near-surface physical phenomena such as the Ekman current, Stokes drift, and wind-driven currents. Our research emphasizes the importance of integrating scalar tracers and Lagrangian markers in experimental designs, revealing differential dispersion behaviors due to near-surface vertical shear caused by the Ekman current and Stokes drift. During slow-current conditions, the elongation direction of the dye patch aligned well with the direction of a depth-averaged Ekman spiral, or Ekman transport. Analytical calculations of vertical shear, based on the Ekman current and Stokes drift, closely matched those derived from tracer observations. Over a 7 h experiment, the vertical diffusivity near the surface was first observed at the early stages of scalar mixing, with a value of 1.9×10−4 m2/s, and the horizontal eddy diffusivity of the dye patch and drifters reached the order of 1 m2/s at a 1000 m length scale. Particle tracking models demonstrate that while HF radar currents can effectively predict the trajectories of tracers near the surface, incorporating near-surface currents, including the Ekman current, Stokes drift, and windage, is essential for a more accurate prediction of the fate of surface floats.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between education and health amongst Australian women. Design/methodology/approach: This study uses the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia data set. Spouse's education is employed as an instrument to solve the potential endogeneity of educational attainment. Findings: The results indicate that an additional year of schooling can lead to an increase in self-reported health, physical health, mental health and a reduced likelihood of having long-term health conditions. Women who are not in the labour force are likely to enjoy higher benefits of education compared to their employed counterparts. The findings also suggest that the relationship between education and health can be explained by the extent of positive health behaviours and social capital as mediators. Research limitations/implications: The conclusion from the results might be different in the case of men, reducing the generalisability of the results. Several objective health variables should be used to provide further aspects of health on which education has an impact. Practical implications: As the positive effect of education on women's health is empirically found, investment in women's education should be seriously considered and reevaluated. Originality/value: This paper focuses on Australian women which not only reduces the heterogeneity between genders but also adds to the rare number of studies on this topic in Australia. This paper also employs a formal mediation analysis to examine what are the mechanisms explaining the relationship between education and health.

Abstract Background Hand hygiene compliance is the basis of infection control programs. In developing countries models to improve hand hygiene compliance to reduce healthcare acquired infections are required. The aim of this study was to determine hand hygiene compliance following an educational program in an obstetric and gynecological hospital in Vietnam. Methods Health care workers from neonatal intensive care, delivery suite and a surgical ward from Hung Vuong Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam undertook a 4-h educational program targeting hand hygiene. Compliance was monitored monthly for six months following the intervention. Hand hygiene knowledge was assessed at baseline and after six months of the study. Results There were 7124 opportunities over 370 hand hygiene recording sessions with 1531 opportunities at baseline and 1620 at 6 months following the intervention. This study aimed to determine factors associated with medication errors, and evaluate the results of interventions to reduce medication errors in inpatients treatment at Hoan My Minh Hai General Hospital, Vietnam. Methods: A single-blind, before-and-after and interventional study was conducted on 442 medical records of inpatients in the pre-intervention stage and 442 medical records of inpatients in the post-intervention stage at the Department of Pediatrics, Department of General Internal Medicine, Department of Cardiology - Endocrinology, Department of Surgery, Department of Obstetrics of Hoan My Minh Hai General Hospital from July 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022. Data were collected and processed using Excel 2016 and SPSS 26.0 software. Results: The medication errors rate decreased from 7.70% in the pre-intervention stage to 5.70% in the post-intervention stage, the difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). Medication errors before intervention occurred most often in the preparation and implementation stage (2.04%), after the intervention, the rate decreased to 1.81%. The replication stage had a high rate of medication errors (2.04%), after the intervention it decreased to 1.81%. The most common medication errors before intervention were wrong doses and wrong drugs (1.58%), after intervention, wrong dose errors rate decreased to 1.36%, the rate of wrong drug errors rate decreased to 1.13%. The total number of diseases ≥2 was significantly related to the occurrence of medication errors (p<0.05). Conclusion: Medication errors could occur at different stages of medication use processes.
