Abstract The integration of renewable energy sources (RESs) into power systems has increased significantly due to technical, economic, and environmental factors, necessitating greater flexibility to manage variable consumption loads and renewable energy generation. Accurate forecasting of solar energy production and consumption load is critical for enhancing power system flexibility. This study introduces a novel deep learning model, a spatial‐temporal hybrid convolutional‐transformer (CT‐Transformer) network with unique features and extended memory capacity. Additionally, a flexibility index (FI) is introduced to evaluate power system flexibility (PSF) based on the forecasting results. The CT‐Transformer forecasts PSF for the next 24 and 168 hours, using the FI to evaluate PSF based on forecasting results. The input data includes meteorological, solar energy production, load demand, and pricing data from France, comprising hourly data from 2015 and 2016 (about 17,520 entries). Data preprocessing involves correcting incomplete and irrelevant segments. The CT‐Transformer's performance is compared to other deep learning techniques, showing superior results with the lowest prediction error (2.5%) and a maximum error of 10.1% (MAE). It also achieved a prediction error of 0.08% for system flexibility, compared to the highest error of 0.96%. This research highlights the CT‐Transformer's potential for accurate RES and load forecasting and PSF evaluation.

Abstract Smart cities consist of various energy systems and services that must be optimally scheduled to improve energy efficiency and reduce operation costs. The smart city layout comprises a power distribution system, a thermal energy system, a water system, and the private and public transportation systems. Additionally, several new technologies such as reconfiguration, regenerative braking energy of the metro, etc. are considered. This study is one of the first to consider all these technologies together in a smart city. The proposed power distribution system is a grid‐connected hybrid AC–DC microgrid. The biogeography‐based optimization algorithm was utilized to seek the best solution for scheduling micro‐turbines, fuel cells, heat pumps, desalination units, energy storage systems, AC–DC converters, purchasing power from the upstream, distributed energy resources, and transferring power amongst electric vehicle parking stations and metro for the next day. Also, the reduced unscented transformation layout was used to capture the system's uncertainty. The suggested layout is implemented on an enhanced IEEE 33‐bus test system to show the efficiency of the suggested method. The results show that costs and environmental pollution are reduced. By comparing the proposed smart city with other studies, the efficiency and completeness of the proposed smart city are shown.

Distributed control is an effective method to coordinate the microgrid with various components, and also in a smart microgrid, communication graph layouts are essential since changing the topology unexpectedly could disrupt the operation of the distributed controllers, and also an imbalance may occur between the production and load. Hence, reducing the exchanged data between units and system operator is essential in order to reduce the transmitted data volume and computational burden. For this purpose, an islanded microgrid with multiple agents which is using cloud-fog computing is proposed here, in order to reduce the computing burden on the central control unit as well as reducing data exchange among units. To balance the production power and loads in a smart island with a stable voltage/frequency, a hybrid backstepping sliding mode controller (BSMC) with disturbance observer (DO) is suggested to control voltage/frequency and current in the MG-based master-slave organization. Therefore, this paper proposes a DO-driven BSMC for controlling voltage/frequency, and power of energy sources within a Master-Slave organization; in addition, the study proposes a clod-fog computing for enhancing performance, reducing transferred data volume, and processing information on time. In the extensive simulations, the suggested controller shows a reduction in steady-state error, a fast response, and a lower total harmonic distortion (THD) for nonlinear and linear loads less than 0.33 %. The fog layer serves as a local processing level, so it reduces the exchanged data between cloud and fog nodes.

Electrical power systems are the lifeblood of modern civilization, providing the essential energy infrastructure that powers our homes, industries, and technologies. As our world increasingly relies on electricity, and modern power systems incorporate renewable energy sources, the challenges have become more complex, necessitating advanced forecasting and optimization to ensure effective operation and sustainability. This review paper provides a comprehensive overview of electrical power systems and delves into the crucial roles that forecasting and optimization play in ensuring future sustainability. The paper examines various forecasting methodologies from traditional statistical approaches to advanced machine learning techniques, and it explores the challenges and importance of renewable energy forecasting. Additionally, the paper offers an in-depth look at various optimization problems in power systems including economic dispatch, unit commitment, optimal power flow, and network reconfiguration. Classical optimization methods and newer approaches such as meta-heuristic algorithms and artificial intelligence-based techniques are discussed. Furthermore, the review paper examines the integration of forecasting and optimization, demonstrating how accurate forecasts can enhance the effectiveness of optimization algorithms. This review serves as a reference for electrical engineers developing sophisticated forecasting and optimization techniques, leading to changing consumer behaviors, addressing environmental concerns, and ensuring a reliable, efficient, and sustainable energy future.

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to examine cyber security issues related to smart grids (SGs), such as prior cyber‐attacks, possible vulnerability issues, and enhanced cyber‐security procedures for SGs on a technical and management basis. When designing public policies for SGs, it is important to consider both the motivations and obstacles to cyber protection and socio‐economic conditions. Furthermore, the importance of suggested policies is viewed from various perspectives. The present paper provides an assessment of a group of policies specified by various stakeholders as having the potential for developing SG cyber security. The methodology for the formation of such a group of policies includes a perfect examination of global experience and meetings with experts from various fields. Subsequently, such policies are evaluated using a Delphi questionnaire aimed at assessing their advantages in pursuing investment goals for cyber security. The first result is that every policy is considered a positive effect of all goals, different in the priority assigned to each of them. The policies that received the most attention were: “regulatory changes policy to foster innovation in cyber security of SGs,” “regulation of new business models to improve cyber security and detect malicious attacks” and “establish a cyber‐security governance strategy.”

Abstract Natural disasters, man‐made attacks, and cyber‐attacks are some of the main hazards of power system which can interrupt the process of continuous power delivery to the end users. In this way, man‐made attacks characteristics’ are fundamentally different from other hazards due to its adaptive strategy that allows attackers to target the most vulnerable parts of the power system. By choosing appropriate time and place; attackers always have advantages over the defender to penetrate the system and launch malicious actions. Therefore, it is quite necessary to take into account the optimal policy for allocating resources in the defender's strategy. This research proposes a four‐level Defence–Defence–Attack–Defence (DDAD) approach to improve the power system resilience against the intentional human attacks. A new defence level, a planning level, is added to the common three‐level Defence–Attack–Defence (DAD) model in power system planning state in order to prevent cut off loads and voltage drop beyond standard with lower cost. In the proposed method, load priority is used to classify the vulnerable sections. The proposed model is performed on IEEE‐30 bus test system and the results indicate the feasibility of the proposed method. As the results indicate, in proposed method less than 10% budget is needed compared with the previous method while all critical loads will be remained. Furthermore, the new method needs no security guard to protect transmission lines for 30 years.

Substantial benefits can be achieved from electricity trade through the interconnection of electricity networks of neighboring countries. In this study, we introduce a regional electricity exchange model to obtain an optimal power trade level between electrically-interconnected countries. In addition, producing clean electricity is one of the primary goals of many countries. Moreover, electricity production can be optimized in some areas using renewable sources and exported to regions with high demand. Thus, the power exchange using the proposed method and framework is investigated. Additionally, a decision model for planning an optimal configuration of hybrid wind/solar power systems and optimal electricity trade is presented. We analyze the economic, engineering, management, and policy issues to facilitate optimization of power generation and trade at the country level and quantify the gains from the increased trade. The proposed decision model is employed to plan electricity trade considering hybrid wind and solar energy resources. Furthermore, the effectiveness of reducing the variability of hourly power supply is evaluated by integrating the wind and solar power generation technologies. The main decision variables are the power trade value and number of installed wind turbines and solar systems. In case studies, the computational results using the proposed model yielded an optimal power trade between Iran and its neighboring countries, including Turkey, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Iraq. Consequently, Iran can export a maximum power capacity of 5,300 MW to its neighbors, where Iraq receives the highest share of 2,000 MW. When the electricity demand in Iran is high, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Armenia can export 1,200, 1,000, 80, and 100 MW of electricity to Iran, respectively. Finally, various configurations of a hybrid wind/solar power generation system considering various cost and power supply variations are presented to partly supply the load requirements of the traded electricity. Consequently, Iran can supply 20% of the total demand of the electricity trade by wind and solar system installed capacities of 316.5 and 267 MW, respectively.

Within microgrids (MGs), the integration of renewable energy resources (RERs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), combined heat and power (CHP) systems, demand response (DR) initiatives, and energy storage solutions poses intricate scheduling challenges. Coordinating these diverse components is pivotal for optimizing MG performance. This study presents an innovative stochastic framework to streamline energy management in MGs, covering proton exchange membrane fuel cell–CHP (PEMFC-CHP) units, RERs, PHEVs, and various storage methods. To tackle uncertainties in PHEV and RER models, we employ the robust Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) technique. Challenges related to hydrogen storage strategies in PEMFC-CHP units are addressed through a customized mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) approach. The integration of intelligent charging protocols governing PHEV charging dynamics is emphasized. Our primary goal centers on maximizing market profits, serving as the foundation for our optimization endeavors. At the heart of our approach is the Meerkat Optimization Algorithm (MOA), unraveling optimal MG operation amidst the intermittent nature of uncertain parameters. To amplify its exploratory capabilities and expedite global optima discovery, we enhance the MOA algorithm. The revised summary commences by outlining the overall goal and core algorithm, followed by a detailed explanation of optimization points for each MG component. Rigorous validation is executed using a conventional test system across diverse planning horizons. A comprehensive comparative analysis spanning varied scenarios establishes our proposed method as a benchmark against existing alternatives.

This study proposes a new four-level model to enhance the resilience of power systems against human attacks. The model considers human attacks such as intelligent attackers and power system planners as defenders. The attackers want to maximize the impact of actions, while the defender tries to avoid imposed costs and damages due to budget limitations. The classic resilience model is a three-level defense-attack-defense (DAD) model, which includes the hardening measure, human attack, and recovery levels. In this study, power system planning, as a new defensive layer, was added prior to the conventional DAD. The proposed method becomes a four-level defense-defense-attack-defense (DDAD) model. To this end, a new four-level defense-defense-attack-defense (DDAD) model is proposed, in which a new defense layer is added to the common three-level defense-attack-defense (DAD) model. Looking at the model more closely, new power plants and substations are added to the power system to improve its resilience, and the most important power plants and substations are determined. Subsequently, a conventional three-level model was applied. In this research, the defender and attacker have strategies with their own costs for every power system component, such as power plants and substations, and their own interactions. The power system model includes the load, power plant and substation, and substation priority, which are defined as a combination of the values of the load and network topology. The proposed model was applied to the IEEE-30 bus test system, and the results indicated the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Wind energy as one of the most promising energy alternatives brings a set of serious challenges in the operation of power systems because of the uncertain nature of wind speed. To address this problem, it is essential to establish a framework to forecast a comprehensive form of information about the wind speed. To this end, an ensemble residual regression deep network is designed to understand fully time-variant and spatial features from the historical data including wind speed and corresponding meteorological data. Then, to enhance the accuracy, a modified error-based loss function is proposed. Consequently, to provide a comprehensive form of information, a modified kernel density estimator is proposed to extract a set of probability density functions (PDFs) with a high level of accuracy and reliability. The simulation results and a comparative analysis on an actual dataset in London, U.K. demonstrate the high capability of the proposed probabilistic wind speed approach.

This paper proposes a new framework for the optimal operation of a microgrid aggregator (MGA) that participates in an oligopoly electricity market. This aggregator obtains an optimal bidding (power and price) strategy for a multigrid (MG) system, i.e., a community MG. Consequently, the granted quantity, i.e., power in the electricity market, is deployed to optimally schedule the MG’s resources to meet demand. As such, as per three-level optimization, the independent system operator (ISO) clears the market with the goal of maximizing the social welfare in the first stage and determining the hourly market price as well as players’ credited power. In the second-level optimization process, the players select the optimal coefficient supply function equilibrium according to the power granted from the market. In third-level optimization, an optimal scheduling for MGs’ resources and demand would be obtained according to the won power in the market to maximize the aggregator profit. In addition, a price-taker MGA is simulated for comparison with the price–maker MGA to highlight the advantage of the proposed technique. Furthermore, a bidding strategy based on game theory is proposed to obtain the optimal price and power of the oligopoly market players and maximize all players’ profits. Finally, a test system including three generators is created to evaluate the performance of the devised bidding strategy. The results show that the proposed bidding strategy can optimally calculate the focal point of the Nash equilibrium (NE) in the oligopoly electricity market.

This paper presents a robust model predictive control (RMPC) method with a new mixed H2/ $\text{H}\infty $ linear time-varying state feedback design. In addition, we propose a linear parameter-varying model for inverters in a microgrid (MG), in which disturbances and uncertainty are considered, where the inverters connect in parallel to renewable energy sources (RES). The proposed RMPC can use the gain-scheduled control law and satisfy both the H2 and $\text{H}\infty $ proficiency requirements under various conditions, such as disturbance and load variation. A multistep control method is proposed to reduce the conservativeness caused by the unique feedback control law, enhance the control proficiency, and strengthen the RMPC feasible area. Furthermore, a practical and efficient RMPC is designed to reduce the online computational burden. The presented controller can implement load sharing among distributed generators (DGs) to stabilize the frequency and voltage of an entire smart island. The proposed strategy is implemented and studied in a MG with two DG types and various load types. Specifically, through converters, one type of DGs is used to control frequency and voltage, and the other type is used to control current. These two types of DGs operate in a parallel mode. Simulation results show that the proposed RMPCs are input-to-state practically stable (ISpS). Compared with other controllers in the literature, the proposed strategy can lead to minor total harmonic distortion (THD), lower steady-state error, and faster response to system disturbance and load variation.

Multi-microgrid systems can improve the resiliency and reliability of the power system network. Secure communication for multi-microgrid operation is a crucial issue that needs to be investigated. This paper proposes a multi-controller software defined networking (SDN) architecture based on fog servers in multi-microgrids to improve the electricity grid security, monitoring and controlling. The proposed architecture defines the support vector machine (SVM) to detect the distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack in the storage of microgrids. The information of local SDN controllers on fog servers is managed and supervised by the master controller placed in the application plane properly. Based on the results of attack detection, the power scheduling problem is solved and send a command to change the status of tie and sectionalize switches. The optimization application on the cloud server implements the modified imperialist competitive algorithm (MICA) to solve this stochastic mixed-integer nonlinear problem. The effective performance of the proposed approach using an SDN-based architecture is evaluated through applying it on a multi-microgrid based on IEEE 33-bus radial distribution system with three microgrids in simulation results.

In this research article, we uphold the principles of the No Free Lunch theorem and employ it as a driving force to introduce an innovative game-based metaheuristic technique named Golf Optimization Algorithm (GOA). The GOA is meticulously structured with two distinctive phases, namely, exploration and exploitation, drawing inspiration from the strategic dynamics and player conduct observed in the sport of golf. Through comprehensive assessments encompassing fifty-two objective functions and four real-world engineering applications, the efficacy of the GOA is rigorously examined. The results of the optimization process reveal GOA’s exceptional proficiency in both exploration and exploitation strategies, effectively striking a harmonious equilibrium between the two. Comparative analyses against ten competing algorithms demonstrate a clear and statistically significant superiority of the GOA across a spectrum of performance metrics. Furthermore, the successful application of the GOA to the intricate energy commitment problem, considering network resilience, underscores its prowess in addressing complex engineering challenges. For the convenience of the research community, we provide the MATLAB implementation codes for the proposed GOA methodology, ensuring accessibility and facilitating further exploration.

Abstract The optimal multi‐objective operation of microgrids with distributed generations and thermal block based on the energy management system is presented. In the thermal block, the combined heat and power system and boiler and thermal storage system supply the load of the block thermal. Therefore, the proposed strategy minimises three objectives of an microgrid's operation, that is, cost, energy loss and voltage deviation functions. Also, it is subject to AC power flow equations, system operation limits and distributed generations and thermal block constraints. The problem is modelled as a multi‐objective optimisation method; then is converted to a single‐objective problem model using the ε‐constraint‐based Pareto optimisation. Moreover, the proposed strategy includes uncertainties of the load, energy price and active power of renewable distributed generations; hence, a stochastic programming based on the hybrid Mont Carlo simulation and point estimate method is used to model these uncertain parameters. Then, the teaching–learning‐based optimisation and firefly algorithm are utilised to solve the problem to achieve a reliable optimal solution. Finally, the proposed strategy is simulated on the IEEE 69‐bus microgrid, and thus, the capabilities of the proposed strategy are extracted.

Due to the simultaneous development of DC-microgrids (DC-MGs) and the use of intelligent control, monitoring and operation methods, as well as their structure, these networks can be threatened by various cyber-attacks. Overall, a typical smart DC-MG includes battery, supercapacitors and power electronic devices, fuel cell, solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems, and loads such as smart homes, plug-in hybrid electrical vehicle (PHEV), smart sensors and network communication like fiber cable or wireless to send and receive data. Given these issues, cyber-attack detection and securing data exchanged in smart DC-MGs like CPS has been considered by experts as a significant subject in recent years. In this study, in order to detect false data injection attacks (FDIAs) in a MG system, Hilbert-Huang transform methodology along with blockchain-based ledger technology is used for enhancing the security in the smart DC-MGs with analyzing the voltage and current signals in smart sensors and controllers by extracting the signal details. Results of simulation on the different cases are considered with the objective of verifying the efficacy of the proposed model. The results offer that the suggested model can provide a more precise and robust detection mechanism against FDIA and improve the security of data exchanging in a smart DC-MG.

This paper endeavors a probabilistic framework to ascertain optimal operation of a microgrid with a special focus on challenges that storage systems bring about. The objective function optimizes the operation of renewable energy resources and startup/shutdown costs of nonrenewable energy resources along with the main grid and storage units’ costs as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem. The optimization problem is solved based on a modified bird mating optimization (MBMO) algorithm and a novel cumulative mutation process. In order to capture the high uncertainties associated with the market price, Photovoltaic, Wind Turbine output powers, and load demands, a reduced unscented transformation (RUT) method has been exploited. The RUT method can effectively model the correlation of variables using (m+2) sampling points. The framework presented in this paper has considered five case studies with multiple seasonal and property features. Implementing the proposed framework on a typical test microgrid and a real large-scale microgrid proves its effectiveness and accuracy through various operational conditions, changing the storage units’ structure and characteristics, RESs’ correlation modeling, and avoiding convergence to local minimums by adopting a newly mutated population. This extensive analysis provides options for MG operation by studying compound cases and providing solutions for every scenario. Promising results regarding the execution time, cost function and its SD values as well as head-to-head points for battery investment costs have been found.

Unexpected natural disasters or physical attacks can have various consequences, including extensive and prolonged blackouts on power systems. Energy systems should be resistant to unwanted events, and their performance is not easily affected by such conditions. The power system should also have sufficient flexibility to adapt to severe disturbances without losing its full version; it should restore itself immediately after resolving the disturbance. This critical feature of the behavior of infrastructure systems in power grids is called resilience. In this paper, the concepts related to resilience in the power system against severe disturbance are explained. The resilience and evaluation process components are introduced; then, an optimal design of resilient substations in the Noorabad city distribution grid against physical attack is presented. This research proposes an optimal solution for simultaneously allocating the feeder routing issue and substation facilities and finding the models of installed conductors and economic hardening of power lines due to unexpected physical attacks on vital urban operational infrastructure. The values of distribution networks are calculated using the grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm to solve the problem of designing an optimal distribution network scheme (ODNS) and optimal resilient distribution network scheme (ORDNS). Obtained results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed resiliency-cost-based optimization approach.

Since Smart-Islands (SIs) with advanced cyber-infrastructure are incredibly vulnerable to cyber-attacks, increasing attention needs to be applied to their cyber-security. False data injection attacks (FDIAs) by manipulating measurements may cause wrong state estimation (SE) solutions or interfere with the central control system performance. There is a possibility that conventional attack detection methods do not detect many cyber-attacks; hence, system operation can interfere. Research works are more focused on detecting cyber-attacks that target DC-SE; however, due to more widely uses of AC SIs, investigation on cyber-attack detection in AC systems is more crucial. In these regards, a new mechanism to detect injection of any false data in AC-SE based on signal processing technique is proposed in this paper. Malicious data injection in the state vectors may cause deviation of their temporal and spatial data correlations from their ordinary operation. The suggested detection method is based on analyzing temporally consecutive system states via wavelet singular entropy (WSE). In this method, to adjust singular value matrices and wavelet transforms' detailed coefficients, switching surface based on sliding mode controller are decomposed; then, by applying the stochastic process, expected entropy values are calculated. Indices are characterized based on the WSE in switching level of current and voltage for cyber-attack detection. The proposed detection method is applied to different case studies to detect cyber-attacks with various types of false data injection, such as amplitude, and vector deviation signals. The simulation results confirm the high-performance capability of the proposed FDIA detection method. This detection method's significant characteristic is its ability in fast detection (10 ms from the attack initiation); besides, this technique can achieve an accuracy rate of over 96.5%.

Automation in power distribution systems and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), which perform network switching automatically and remotely, allows distribution companies to flexibly control distribution power grids. Cross-section switches also has a significant role in the automation in distribution systems, in that the operational optimization of these switches is able to enhance the supply power quality and reliability indicators, and can be a prosperous solution to increase the reliability, efficiency and overall service quality in services to customers. In this regard, in this work, the genetic optimization algorithm (GOA) approach which integrated the Steepest Descend Technique (SDT) is proposed and enhanced based on the features of the mentioned issue to sketch the optimal location and control of automatic and manual cross-section switches and protection relay systems in distribution power systems. The GOA is able to search globally that can prevent the result from locally convergence, also, GOA gives superior primary solutions for the SDT. Thus, the SDT can search locally with higher performance which increase the solutions’ accuracy. Therefore, an optimization formulation is proposed to improve the value-based reliability of the suggested layout considering the cost of customer downtime and the costs related to segmentation of switches and relay protection devices. Also, a distributed generation (DG) system in distribution networks is considered based on the islanded state of generation units. The effectiveness of the optimal suggested procedure is evaluated and represented via performing a practical test system in the distribution network of Ahvaz city in Iran. The results show that using proposed method and by optimally allocating switches maneuver, energy losses without switches are reduced from 310.17 (MWh) to 254.2 (MWh), and also by using DG, losses are reduced from 554.01 to 533.61 which confirms the ability and higher accuracy of the proposed method to improve reliability indices.

This paper introduces a systematic and comprehensive method to design a constrained fuzzy model predictive control (MPC) cooperated with integral sliding mode control (ISMC) based on the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model for uncertain continuous-time nonlinear systems subject to external disturbances. The proposed controller benefits from the robustness, optimality, and practical constraints considerations. The robustness against the uncertainties and matched external disturbances is achieved by the proposed ISMC without iterative calculation for obtaining the robust invariant set. The MPC schemes are designed separately based on the both quadratic and non-quadratic Lyapunov functions. By the proposed MPC, the states of the system reach the desired values in the optimal, constrained, and robust manner against the unmatched external disturbances. New linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) conditions are proposed to design both the proposed MPC schemes. Also, the practical constraints on the control signals are guaranteed in the design procedure based on the invariant ellipsoid set. To evaluate the effectiveness of the suggested strategy, some simulation and experimental tests were run.

Due to the widespread use of electric motors in various industries, it is very important to have optimally designed motors in that they have high efficiency and lower negative effects on the quality of the power grid. Therefore, in this paper, the effects of winding type (wide and concentrated) on ripple torque in internal permanent magnet motor (IPMM) are investigated. In order to reduce the ripple torque and to increase the average torque, by making optimal holes in the rotor surface and using the sensitivity analysis method, the structure of the IPMM is improved. In this method, the number, dimensions and location of holes are optimized using the sensitivity analysis approach, which reduces the ripple torque of the motor. Using a concentrated winding instead of a wide winding, the toothed ripple torque is reduced by approximately 75% while maintaining the average torque value. Also, by making holes in the rotor surface and optimizing them using the finite element technique and sensitivity analysis, it is demonstrated that the amount of ripple torque by 20%. In the proposed approach, it is proved that in the concentrated winding, in addition to reducing the spatial harmonics, the average amount of torque can also be improved. Obtained results of the simulation confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In Smart Island (SI) systems, operators of power distribution system usually utilize actual-time measurement information as the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to have an accurate, efficient, advanced control and monitor of whole their system. SI system can be vulnerable to complicated information integrity attacks such as False Data Injection Attack (FDIA) on some equipment including sensors and controllers, which can generate misleading operational decision in the system. Hence, lack of detailed research in the evaluation of power system that links the FDIAs with system stability is felt, and it will be important for both assessment of the effect of cyber-attack and taking preventive protection measures. In this regards, time-frequency-based differential approach is proposed for SI cyber-attack detection according to non-stationary signal assessment. In this paper, non-stationary signal processing approach of Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) is performed for the FDIA detection in several case studies. Since various critical case studies with a small FDIA in data where accurate and efficient detection can be a challenge, the simulation results confirm the efficiency of HHT approach and the proposed detection frame is compared with shallow model. In this research, the configuration of the SI test case is developed in the MATLAB software with several Distributed Generations (DGs). As a result, it is found that the HHT approach is completely efficient and reliable for FDIA detection target in AC-SI. The simulation results verify that the proposed model is able to achieve accuracy rate of 93.17% and can detect FDIAs less than 50 ms from cyber-attack starting in different kind of scenarios.

Downlink of a cellular network with orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) is considered. Joint base station switch OFF and user subcarrier-allocation with guaranteed user quality of service, is shown to be a promising approach for reducing network’s total power consumption. However, solving the aforementioned mix-integer and nonlinear optimization problem requires robust and powerful optimization techniques. In this paper, teaching-learning based optimization algorithm has been adopted to lower cellular network’s total power consumption. The results show that the proposed technique is able to reduce network’s total power consumption by determining a near optimum set of base stations to be switched OFF and near optimum subcarrier-user assignments. It is shown that the proposed scheme is superior to existing base station switch OFF schemes. Robustness of the proposed TLBO-based technique is verified.

Purpose. Energy consumption is a standard measure to evaluate the progress and quality of life in a country. When used properly and logically it could be cause of progress in science, technology and welfare of the people in any country and otherwise irreparable economic losses and economic gross recession would happen. And finally, the quantity of energy consumption per GDP will increase day by day. Electrical energy, as the most prominent type of energy, is very important. In this article based on a different approach, according to the final consumption of electric energy, a proper economic planning in order to supply electrical energy is submitted. In this programming, the details of final energy consumption, will replace with the information of power network, by considering the network efficiency and power plants. Operation of power plants is based on the energy optimization entranced to a plant. By using the proposed method and gravitational search algorithm, the total cost of electrical energy can be minimized. The results of simulation and numerical studies show better convergence of gravitational search algorithm in comparison with other existing methods in this area.

Cyber-physical threats as false data injection attacks (FDIAs) in islanded smart microgrids (ISMGs) are typical accretion attacks, which need urgent consideration. In this regard, this paper proposes a novel cyber-attack detection model to detect FDIAs based on singular value decomposition (SVD) and fast Fourier transform (FFT). Since new research are mostly focusing on FDIAs detection in DC systems, paying attention to AC systems attack detection is also necessary; hence, AC state estimation (SE) have been used in SI analysis and in considering renewable energy sources effect. Whenever malicious data are added into the system state vectors, vectors’ temporal and spatial datum relations might drift from usual operating conditions. In this approach, switching surface based on sliding mode controllers is dialyzed to regulate detailed FFT’s coefficients to calculate singular values. Indexes are determined according to the composition of FFT and SVD in voltage/current switching surface to distinguish the potential cyber-attack. This protection layout is presented for cyber-attack detection and is studied in various types of FDIA forms like amplitude and vector derivation of signals, which exchanged between agents such as smart sensor, control units, smart loads, etc. The prominent advantage of the proposed detection layout is to reduce the time (less than 10 milliseconds from the attack outset) in several kinds of case studies. The proposed method can detect more than 96% accuracy from 2967 sample tests. The performances of the method are carried out on AC-ISMG in MATLAB/Simulink environment.

Today, in various leading power utilities in developing countries, achieving optimal operational energy management and planning, taking into account the costs reduction of generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, and also reducing the emission of an environmental pollutant becomes more and more important. Optimal use of renewable energy sources (RESs) is an effective way to achieve these goals. In this regard, in this research article, an improved multi-objective differential evolutionary (IMODE) optimization algorithm is suggested and performed to dispatch electricity generations in a smart microgrid (MG) system, taking into account economy and emission as competitive issues. In this paper, a nonlinear equation of multi-objective optimization issue with various equality and inequality limitations is formulated in order to lower the total operational costs of the MG considering environmental pollution effects simultaneously. In order to address the issue of optimal operation of the MG in single-objective and multi-objective forms, an intelligent method according to the improved differential evolutionary (IDE) optimization is utilized and performed and the proposed algorithm is implemented on different problems. First, it is assumed that there is no limit to the exchange of power overhead, and secondly, the limitation of power exchange with the upstream grid is considered. In multi-objective mode, these two modes are also considered. In order to show the impact of renewable energy on the cost, in the third part of the simulations, the operation is solved with maximum participation of renewable energy sources. In the final section, the sensitivity analysis on the number of populations in this problem is performed. The obtained results of the simulation are compared to differential evolutionary (DE) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) techniques. The effectiveness of the suggested multi-operational energy management method is confirmed by applying a study case system.

This paper presents a new Fuzzy Adaptive Modified Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (FAMPSO) for the placement of Fuel Cell Power Plants (FCPPs) in distribution systems. FCPPs, as Distributed Generation (DG) units, can be considered as Combined sources of Heat, Power, and Hydrogen (CHPH). CHPH operation of FCPPs can improve overall system efficiency, as well as produce hydrogen which can be stored for the future use of FCPPs or can be sold for profit. The objective functions investigated are minimizing the operating costs of electrical energy generation of distribution substations and FCPPs, minimizing the voltage deviation and minimizing the total emission. In this regard, this paper just considers the placement of CHPH FCPPs while investment cost of devices is not considered. Considering the fact that the objectives are different, non-commensurable and nonlinear, it is difficult to solve the problem using conventional approaches that may optimize a single objective. Moreover, the placement of FCPPs in distribution systems is a mixed integer problem. Therefore, this paper uses the FAMPSO algorithm to overcome these problems. For solving the proposed multi-objective problem, this paper utilizes the Pareto Optimality idea to obtain a set of solution in the multi-objective problem instead of only one. Also, a fuzzy system is used to tune parameters of FAMPSO algorithm such as inertia weight. The efficacy of the proposed approach is validated on a 69-bus distribution system.

The smart grid is a fully automatic delivery grid for electricity power with a two-way reliable flow of electricity and information among different equipment on the grid. Smart meters and sensors monitoring the system provide a huge amount of data in various part of smart grid. To logically manage this trouble, a new lossy data compression approach for big data compression is proposed. The optimal singular value decomposition (SVD) is applied to a matrix that achieves the optimal number of singular values to the sending process, and the other ones will be neglected. This goal is done due to the quality of retrieved data and the compression ratio. In the presented scheme, to implement the optimization framework, various intelligent optimization methods are used to determine the number of optimal values in the elimination stage. The efficiency and capabilities of the proposed method are examined using a wide range of data types, from electricity market data to image processing benchmarks. The comparisons show that the compression level obtained by the proposed method can dominate the points given by the existing SVD rank reduction methods. Also, as the other finding of this article, the performance of the rank reduction methods depends on the application and data types. It means that a rank reduction method can reveal a good performance in one application and performs unacceptably for another purpose. So, the optimized rank reduction can pave the way toward a robust and reliable performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
