The main aims of this study were to investigate whether participation in a mindful-based University training was associated with increases in mindfulness skills as measured by the 5-Facet M Questionnaire, and to present the Italian validation of the questionnaire. Sixty-seven students from the course Neuro and Psychomotor Therapy were enrolled. They filled in the self-administered 5-Facet M Questionnaire before and 1 month after a mindfulness-based training, focused on role-playing and followed by a feedback group discussion. The Italian version of the 5-Facet M Questionnaire had good psychometric properties. The pre- and post-training analysis showed a significant increase in the subscale ‘Observing’. Findings suggest that role-playing and feedback group sessions are valid tools to improve students’ mindfulness skills. It occurs in 1%–2% of the general population and its prevalence increases with age. Dronedarone, a noniodinated benzofuran similar to amiodarone, was developed as an antiarrhythmic agent for patients with atrial fibrillation. The aim of our systematic review was to critically evaluate randomized controlled trials that compared treatment with dronedarone versus placebo or amiodarone in patients with atrial fibrillation.Methods: Electronic databases (MEDLINE, Embase, and Central) were searched up to November 2011 with no language restrictions. We included randomized controlled trials in which dronedarone was compared to placebo or other drugs in patients with AF. Internal and external validity was assessed.Results: We identified seven papers corresponding to eight randomized controlled trials. The DAFNE, EURIDIS/ADONIS, and ATHENA trials demonstrated a reduction of AF recurrence with dronedarone as compared to placebo in patients with nonpermanent AF. The DIONYSOS study showed that dronedarone is less effective for the prevention of recurrent AF but improved tolerability as compared to amiodarone. Considering patients with permanent AF, the ERATO trial showed that dronedarone had rate-control effects while the PALLAS study was stopped early since stroke, myocardial infarction, systemic embolism, or death from cardiovascular causes were significantly more frequent in subjects treated with dronedarone as compared to placebo. The ANDROMEDA trial included patients with recent hospitalization for heart failure and was terminated early because of excess of deaths in the dronedarone group.Conclusion: Like most antiarrhythmic drugs, dronedarone reduces the recurrence of AF in patients with paroxysmal or persistent AF as compared to placebo. However, relapse rates in the first year of therapy are high. Moreover, dronedarone showed to be less effective than amiodarone. Finally, dronedarone should be avoided in patients with permanent AF and a high risk for cardiovascular events or severe congestive heart failure.Keywords: amiodarone, arrhythmia, cardiovascular events

Occupancy analyses represent a crucial topic for building performance. At present, this is even true because of the pandemic emergency due to SARS-CoV-2 and the need to support the functional analysis of building spaces in relation to social distancing rules. Moreover, the need to assess the suitability of spaces in high occupancy buildings as the educational ones, for which occupancy evaluations result pivotal to ensure the safety of the end-users in their daily activities, is a priority. The proposed paper investigates the steps that are needed to secure a safe re-opening of an educational building. A case study has been selected as a test site to analyse the re-opening steps as required by Italian protocols and regulations. This analysis supported the school director of a 2-to-10 year old school and its team in the decision-making process that led to the safe school re-opening. Available plants and elevations of the building were collected and a fast digital survey was carried out using the mobile laser scanner technology (iMMS - Indoor Mobile Mapping System) in order to acquire three-dimensional geometries and digital photographic documentation of the spaces. A crowd simulation software (i.e. Oasys MassMotion) was implemented to analyse end-users flows; the social distance parameter was set in its proximity modelling tools in order to check the compliance of spaces and circulation paths to the social distancing protocols. Contextually to the analysis of users flows, a plan of hourly air changes to maintain a high quality of the environments has been defined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The digitalization of the process for building permit (involving the use of 3D information systems) is seen as a priority in a wide part of the world. Since it is a very multidisciplinary use case, involving a variety of stakeholders tackling complex issues and topics, some of them joined their efforts and skills in the European Network for Digital Building Permit. The initial activity of the network, after a review of on-going experiences, was a workshop to share knowledge about the topics involved and to identify the main ambitions of the network with respect to three pillars (i.e. Process – Rules and Requirements – Technology) and the related requirements. It was achieved through a collective brainstorming activity guided by digital tools, whose results were further analysed in a post-processing phase. To provide a National database, 1,410 unrelated hemophilia A (HA) patients were investigated using screening methods denaturing high-performance liquid chromatography (DHPLC), conformational-sensitive gel electrophoresis (CSGE)] and/or direct sequencing. F8 gene mutations were identified in 877 (81%), 146 (82%), and 133 (89%) families with severe, moderate, or mild HA, respectively. Among the 382 different mutations detected, 217 (57%) have not previously been reported in the F8 Haemophilia A Mutation, Structure, Test and Resource Site (HAMSTeRS) database. Mutations leading to a null allele accounted for 82, 15%, and less than 1% of severe, moderate, or mild HA, respectively. A missense mutation was identified in 16%, 68%, and 81% of severe, moderate, or mild HA, respectively. They included 105 missense mutations (48%), 41 small deletions (19%), 25 splice site mutations (12%), 24 nonsense mutations (11%), 18 insertions (8%), three large deletions (1%), and one deletion plus insertion. Unreported mutations were distributed throughout the F8 gene, as they affected all F8 exons but exon 20. We report a wide spectrum of mutations collected in a large National database. The type of mutation was a strong predictor of the clinical phenotype. This database is expected to considerably improve the genetic counseling and medical care of HA families in Italy. Patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are at increased risk for thromboembolic complications. Our aim was to evaluate whether the increased risk for thrombosis in IBD could be due to a genetic association of IBD with hereditary prothrombotic conditions. In all, 102 IBD patients (51 with ulcerative colitis and 51 with Crohn's disease) with no history of thrombosis and 204 matched normal subjects were enrolled. DNA specimens were evaluated by PCR and restriction fragment length polymorphism for factor V Leiden, methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and prothrombin gene mutations. In IBD patients and matched controls the observed allele frequencies were similar, being 1.5% and 1.2% for factor V Leiden gene mutation, 1.1% and 0.7% for prothrombin gene mutation, and 45.1% and 47.4% for MTHFR gene mutation, respectively. These rates also were not significantly different when patients were analyzed according to age and sex distribution, diagnosis, and extension and clinical type of disease. In conclusion, our study shows no association between IBD and the most frequent hereditary prothrombotic conditions. Other factors should be evaluated in order to understand the mechanisms underlying the thrombotic risk of IBD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
