XX - Abstract
Hadrontherapy treatments require a very high precision on the dose deposition ( 2.5% and 1-2mm) in order to keep the benefits of the precise ions’ ballistic. The largest uncertainty on the physical dose deposition is due to ion fragmentation. Up to now, the simulation codes are not able to reproduce the fragmentation process with the required precision. To constraint the nuclear models and complete fragmentation cross sections databases; our collaboration has performed an experiment on May 2008 at GANIL with a 95 MeV/u 12C beam. We have measured the fluence, energy and angular distributions of charged fragments and neutrons coming from nuclear reactions of incident 12C on thick water-like PMMA targets. Preliminary comparisons between GEANT4 (G4BinaryLightIonReaction) simulations and experimental data show huge discrepancies.

Independent fission fragment yields have been obtained for the six fragment pairs ( Z_ L/Z_ H = 44/46, 42/48, 40/50, 38/52, 36/54 and 34/56) in $^{208}Pb({18}O, f)$ at the beam energy E = 85MeV. $\gamma$-ray spectroscopy technique was applied to analyze the experimental data. With use of these data the mass distribution of fission fragments was restored. Data on average fragment spin distribution and total neutron multiplicity are presented. The agreement of the obtained results with other experimental data proves the validity of the applied method to solve this kind of problems.

The $B$(E1;$1/2^+\to1/2^-$) strength for $^{11}$Be has been extracted from intermediate energy Coulomb excitation measurements, over a range of beam energies using a new reaction model, the extended continuum discretized coupled channels (XCDCC) method. In addition, a measurement of the excitation cross section for $^{11}$Be+$^{208}$Pb at 38.6 MeV/nucleon is reported. The $B$(E1) strength of 0.105(12) e$^2$fm$^2$ derived from this measurement is consistent with those made previously at 60 and 64 MeV/nucleon, i n contrast to an anomalously low result obtained at 43 MeV/nucleon. By coupling a multi-configuration description of the projectile structure with realistic reaction theory, the XCDCC model provides for the first time a fully quantum mechanical description of Coulomb excitation. The XCDCC calculations reveal that the excitation process involves significant contributions from nuclear, continuum, and higher-order effects. An analysis of the present and two earlier intermediate energy measurements yields a combined B(E1) strength of 0.105(7) e$^2$fm$^2$. This value is in good agreement with the value deduced independently from the lifetime of the $1/2^-$ state in $^{11}$Be, and has a comparable p recision., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The breaking of the N=8 shell-model magic number in the 12Be ground state has been determined to include significant occupancy of the intruder d-wave orbital. This is in marked contrast with all other N=8 isotones, both more and less exotic than 12Be. The occupancies of the 0 hbar omega neutron p1/2-orbital and the 1 hbar omega, neutron d5/2 intruder orbital were deduced from a measurement of neutron removal from a high-energy 12Be beam leading to bound and unbound states in 11Be. Double differential cross sections (DDCS) for light charged particles (proton, deuteron, triton, 3He, alpha) and neutrons produced by a proton beam impinging on a 238U target at 62.9 MeV were measured at the CYCLONE facility in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium). These measurements have been performed using two independent experimental set-ups ensuring neutron (DeMoN counters) and light charged particles (Si-Si-CsI telescopes) detection. The charged particle data were measured at 11 different angular positions from 25 degrees to 140 degrees allowing the determination of angle differential, energy differential and total production cross sections.

[PHYS.NEXP]Physics [physics]/Nuclear Experiment [nucl-ex] - Abstract
International audience; Data have been obtained on exclusive single neutron knockout cross sections from 12Be to study its ground state structure. The cross sections for the production of 11Be in its ground state (1/2+) and first excited state (0.32 MeV, 1/2−) have previously been measured, indicating a strong (2s½)2 component to the 12Be ground state. In the present experiment, performed at the GANIL laboratory, cross sections for the first (0.32 MeV, 1/2−) and second (1.78 MeV, 5/2+, unbound) excited states in 11Be were measured, which gives information on the admixture of (1p½)2 and (1math)2 components in the ground state of 12Be. A fragmentation beam of 12Be of ∼10000 pps (95% pure) was incident on a carbon target at 41 MeV/u. The beam particles were tracked onto the target, and their energies were measured event‐by‐event. The beam‐like residues were measured in a position sensitive telescope mounted at zero degrees, and neutrons were measured in the DéMoN array. The 1/2− state of 11Be was identified by measuring coincident 320 keV γ‐rays, using four NaI detectors. Full kinematic reconstruction of unbound states in 11Be was performed using coincident neutrons and 10Be ions. Detailed simulations were performed in order to interpret the data, and spectroscopic factors were calculated, using preliminary single particle removal cross sections calculated using a Glauber model. © 2005 American Institute of Physics

Dedicated ionization chamber was built and installed to measure the energy loss of very heavy nuclei at 2.7 MeV/u produced in fusion reactions in inverse kinematics (beam of 208Pb). After going through the ionization chamber, products of reactions on 12C, 18O targets are implanted in a Si detector. Their identification through their alpha decay chain is ambiguous when their half-life is short. After calibration with Pb and Th nuclei, the ionization chamber signal allowed us to resolve these ambiguities. In the search for rare super-heavy nuclei produced in fusion reactions in inverse or symmetric kinematics, such a chamber will provide direct information on the nuclear charge of each implanted nucleus., submitted to NIMA, 10 pages+4 figures, Latex, uses elsart.cls and grahpicx

Measurements of the neutron removal and cluster breakup cross sections for the neutron-rich nuclei 14Be and 14B have been performed at 34.4 and 40.8 MeV/nucleon, respectively. Enhancement of the first chance cluster breakup cross section for 14Be compared to that of 14B provides evidence for a well-developed He cluster structure of the ground state of 14Be. Measurements of both the cross sections and decay-particle velocities suggest that multistep processes play an important role in the excitation and decay of both 14B and 14Be.

Ar+Ni collisions at 77 MeV/u were studied in the experiment 286 performed at GANIL. An important advantage of this experiment was an application of the neutron detector DEMON for registration of both neutral and charged particles. This feature allows to compare characteristics of neutrons and protons detected by the same detector and gives a possibility to determine the influence of the Coulomb field on the proton emission. Estimation of a charge of the emitting source was performed by comparing energy spectra of neutrons and protons detected under identical experimental conditions. The experimental results were compared with the prediction of the SIMON model.

Double-differential cross sections for light charged particle production (up to A=4) were measured in 96 MeV neutron-induced reactions, at TSL laboratory cyclotron in Uppsala (Sweden). Measurements for three targets, Fe, Pb, and U, were performed using two independent devices, SCANDAL and MEDLEY. The data were recorded with low energy thresholds and for a wide angular range (20-160 degrees). The normalization procedure used to extract the cross sections is based on the np elastic scattering reaction that we measured and for which we present experimental results. A good control of the systematic uncertainties affecting the results is achieved. Calculations using the exciton model are reported. Two different theoretical approches proposed to improve its predictive power regarding the complex particle emission are tested. The capabilities of each approach is illustrated by comparison with the 96 MeV data that we measured, and with other experimental results available in the literature., Comment: 21 pages, 28 figures

Ar+Ni collisions at 77 MeV/u were studied in the experiment E286 performed at GANIL.

The effects of the entrance channel and shell structure of reacting nuclei on the experimental evaporation residues have been studied by analysing the 40Ar+176Hf, 86Kr+130,136Xe, 124Sn+92Zr and 48Ca+174Yb reactions leading to the 216Th* and 222Th* compound nuclei. The measured excitation function of evaporation residues for the 124Sn+92Zr reaction was larger than that for the 86Kr+130Xe reaction. The experimental values of evaporation residues in the 86Kr+136Xe reaction were about 500 times larger than that in the 86Kr+130Xe reaction. These results are explained by the initial angular momentum dependence of the fusion excitation functions calculated in framework of the dinuclear system concept and by the differences in survival probabilities calculated in framework of advanced statistical model. The dependencies of the fission barrier and the \Gamma_n / \Gamma_f ratio on the angular momentum of the excited compound nucleus are taken into account., Comment: 13 pages, 9 (eps) figures, uses revtex4, submitted to Phys.Rev.
