CO2 applications for enhanced oil recovery and storage in continental shale reservoirs are promising, and there is a need to evaluate the impact of porous structure on oil–water two-phase flow under CO2 environment. In this study, first, digital cores of quartz-rich, carbonate-rich, and clay-rich shales are established using Focused Ion Beam Scanning Electron Microscopy scanning data processed through generative adversarial networks. Subsequently, the pore networks generated by digital cores are quantitatively analyzed using the generalized extreme value distribution. Finally, pore network modeling is carried out to elucidate the effect of porous structural differences on oil–water flow considering CO2 dissolution and capillary forces. The results show that quartz-rich shale, characterized by nanopore intergranular dominance and the highest pore network connectivity, demonstrates the highest relative permeability of the oil phase. Carbonate-rich shale exhibits intermediate relative permeability of oil phase, while clay-rich shale exhibits the worst. The dissolution of CO2 reduces oil–water interfacial tension and oil viscosity, enhances oil mobilization within nanopores, and notably increases the relative permeability of the oil phase. The permeability of the oil phase is governed by pore structure, displaying positive correlations with core heterogeneity, pore radius, coordination number, and throat length, and negative correlations with throat radius. Based on the CO2-WAG (water-alternating-gas) flooding for conventional reservoirs, CO2-WAG huff-n-puff in shale reservoirs is proposed. To clarify the phase behavior and fluid flow of oil–CO2–water in the CO2-WAG huff-n-puff process, a series of experimental studies are conducted under different injection sequences of CO2 and water. The results show that the saturation pressure of the oil–CO2–water systems is lower than that of the oil–CO2 systems since a portion of the CO2 is dissolved in water. In addition, CO2 injection followed by water can significantly reduce the dissolution of CO2 in the water. CO2 and water preferentially flow into the macropores and bedding fractures of the oil-saturated cores at the injection stage, and the oil in mesopores and micropores reflows into macropores and bedding fractures at the soaking stage. At the depressurization production stage, the oil in mesopores and micropores is gradually extracted. Compared to water injection followed by CO2, injecting CO2 first can avoid the barrier effect caused by the subsequent injection of water and promotes oil flow into mesopores and micropores in the matrix. At the end of production, the oil recovered from water injection followed by CO2 mainly originates from macropores, while that from CO2 injection followed by water primarily comes from mesopores. Wind is one of the main factors raising errors in the spacecraft's landing phase. As a result, an accurate description of incoming wind conditions is supposed to be a prerequisite for reliable parafoil trajectory planning. This work utilizes the Weather Research Forecast (WRF) model system with efficient parameterization schemes to reproduce the wind field in the main landing area during the landing phase of the "Shen Zhou" series spacecraft mission. In comparison with observational data from several cases, it is validated that the WRF model has the potential to give an accurate imitation of wind behaviors and is expected to be an alternative technique for costly and time-consuming experimental undertakings. Based on the numerical results, a linear model is proposed in the current work, which is applicable to the altitude range, specifically for parafoil trajectory planning. It is validated by comparisons with observational wind properties from radio-sounding stations. In addition, a sixth-order polynomial model is introduced for comparison as well. The results show that the current proposed model has both the characteristics of a simple form and good accuracy. • A novel method is presented to describe fluid adsorption in nanopores. • The PR-EOS is updated and calibrated to calculate the confined fluids phase behavior. • The quantitative relationship of fluid adsorption and critical shifts is characterized. • Generalized analytical formulas for critical shifts in shale nanopores are developed. Phase equilibrium of shale gas or oil is highly disturbed due to fluid adsorption in densely-developed nanopores. Accurate description of adsorption and its induced critical shifts for confined fluids in nanopores is essential for a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms governing the storage, transport, and recovery of shale gas or oil in shale reservoirs. In this study, first, a novel method for describing fluid adsorption in nanopores was presented on a basis of adsorption thickness (δ) coupled with an initially-proposed parameter (reduced adsorption density β). Second, the two parameters were introduced to modify the molar volume term and then the Peng-Robinson equation of state (PR-EOS) was updated. This proposed model could characterize the quantitative relationship between fluid adsorption and its induced critical shifts. Third, the literature data of critical temperature shift were collected to correlate the reduced adsorption density and dimensionless pore radius. Then, the modified PR-EOS was solved and two generalized analytical formulas were developed for calculating the shifts of critical temperature and pressure caused by fluid adsorption in nanopores. Finally, several key factors including hydrocarbon component and pore size were investigated to demonstrate that the modified PR-EOS showed a satisfactory ability to predict the shifted critical properties of confined fluids. The Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS)-based generalized actuator disc method along with the Reynolds stress model (AD/RANS_RSM) is assessed for wind turbine wake simulation. The evaluation is based on validations with four sets of experiments for four horizontal-axis wind turbines with different geometrical characteristics operating in a wide range of wind conditions. Additionally, sensitivity studies on inflow profiles (representing isotropic and anisotropic turbulence) for predicting wake effects are carried out. The focus is on the prediction of the evolution of wake flow in terms of wind velocity and turbulence intensity. Comparisons between the computational results and the measurements demonstrate that in the near and transition wake region with strong anisotropic turbulence, the AD/RANS_RSM methodology exhibits a reasonably good match with all the experimental data sets; however, in the far wake region that is characterized by isotropic turbulence, the AD/RANS_RSM predicts the wake velocity quite accurately but appears to over-estimate the wake turbulence level. While the introduction of the overall turbulence intensity is found to give an improved agreement with the experiments. The performed sensitivity study proves that the anisotropic inflow condition is recommended as the profile of choice to represent the incoming wind flow. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
