Abstract

The STOrage Resource Manager (StoRM) service implements the SRM specification to recall files from tape. Although the SRM protocol has been successfully used for many years, its complexity has pushed the WLCG community to adopt a simpler approach, more coherent with current web te- chnologies. The WLCG tape REST API offers a common HTTP interface which allows clients to manage disk residency of tape-stored files and observe the progress of file transfers to disk. In the context of the StoRM project devel- oped at INFN-CNAF, the StoRM Tape service implements this HTTP interface. It is deployed as a standalone component and uses an NGINX reverse proxy as authentication engine and an Open Policy Agent (OPA) service as authorization policy decision point. This new service will be distributed at the INFN Tier-1 in order to coexist with the current StoRM deployments, in particular with the Grid-Enabled Mass Storage System (GEMSS).

Abstract

Bone defects in animals can arise from various causes, including diseases, neoplasms, and most commonly, trauma. Comminuted fractures that exceed the critical size may heal poorly due to deficient or interrupted vascularization, resulting in an insufficient number of progenitor cells necessary for bone regeneration. In this context, 3D printing techniques using poly-L-lactic acid/graphene oxide (PLLA/GO) aim to address this issue by creating customized scaffolds combined with canine placenta hydrogel and mesenchymal stem cells for use in goat mandibles, compared to a control group using titanium plate fixation. Ten canine placentas were decellularized and characterized using histological techniques. A hydrogel derived from the canine placenta extracellular matrix (cpECM) was produced to improve cell attachment to the scaffolds. In vitro cytotoxicity and cell adhesion to the cpECM hydrogel were assessed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The resulting biomaterials, cpECM hydrogel and PLLA/GO scaffolds, maintained their functional structure and supported cell adhesion, maintenance, and proliferation in vitro. Thermography showed that PLLA/GO scaffolds with cpECM hydrogel performed effectively, similar to the control group. Computed tomography scans revealed bone calluses, suggesting an ongoing repair process. These findings demonstrate the innovative technological potential of these materials for use in surgical interventions. 44. Right-Sided Cardiac Thrombosis and Pulmonary Thromboembolism in Chronic Chagas Disease: A Review of Clinical Features and Post-Mortem Examination.

Abstract

Pulmonary thromboembolism (PE) is a potential major complication in patients with chronic Chagas heart disease (CChD). The source of PE is the right-sided chambers instead of deep vein thrombosis. Little is known regarding risk factors, clinical picture, and the clinical course of patients with PE secondary to CChD. The aim of this review was to try to provide doctors with such data. We searched for papers related to PE in CChD patients in the PUBMED from 1955 to 2020. Twenty-six manuscripts were retrieved, of which 12 fulfilled entry criteria and were included in the study. Right-sided cardiac thrombosis or PE was confirmed on morphological or imaging studies. A total of 431 patients with PE were reported. Age varied from 30 to 85 years. About 332 patients were reported to have chronic heart failure (CHF), whereas 41 (9%) sudden cardiac death (SCD) at autopsy. Clinical manifestations reported were sudden onset dyspnea was found in 1 patient, haemoptysis in 2, worsening CHF in 2, and chest pain in 1. An X-ray chest was reported for 6 patients: abnormalities consistent with PE were found in 3. The resting electrocardiogram (ECG) was reported for 5 patients: it was abnormal in all. One study reported a mean left ventricular ejection fraction of 42.1 ± 18.7%. The prevalence of right-sided cardiac thrombosis varied from 66% to 85% patients. PE was the cause of death in 17% of patients. The clinical diagnosis of PE in patients with Chagas cardiomyopathy (ChCM) is very difficult in the absence of a prediction score that performs well. However, in the presence of haemoptysis or worsening heart failure (HF), abnormal ECG, or chest X-ray, the diagnosis of PE should be raised, and patients promptly referred to detailed Doppler Tissue Echocardiography and computed tomography angiography, and treated in a timely manner.
