The use of e-cigarettes has been rapidly expanding in recent years. The reasons people in Slovenia chose to use electronic cigarettes have not been studied to date. This study examines e-cigarette users' attitudes regarding their health risks.

V članku je predstavljeno manjše grobišče, odkrito v vasi Tišina zahodno od Murske Sobote. Najdenih je bilo 12 grobov, ki časovno sodijo v mlajše obdobje kulture žarnih grobišč. Obravnavane so grobne najdbe, tako keramično posodje kot tudi drugi predmeti, in sicer nakit, železna noža in drugo. Med njimi izstopa okrašena bronasta tulasta sekira. Najdbe iz grobov kažejo podobnost z grobovi ruške skupine kulture žarnih grobišč.

Utrjena višinska naselbina na Sv. Pavlu nad Vrtovinom je znana že vse od leta 1866, a je bila dolgo razumljena zgolj kot prazgodovinsko gradišče. Sondiranja v letu 1966 so potrdila obstoj poznoantične utrjene naselbine in nakazala gosto poselitev v njenem severnem delu. Lidarsko skeniranje površja, terenski obhodi in različni zračni posnetki so v zadnjem času razkrili poleg številnih manjših enoprostornih hiš na severni polovici platoja še veliko različno oblikovanih bivalnih zgradb na južni polovici. Predstavljen je pregled na najdišču vidnih obrambnih in bivalnih struktur ter pod naselbino stoječega vodnega stolpa. Pod sedanjo cerkvijo Sv. Pavla se nakazuje večja dvojna zgodnjekrščanska cerkev z dobro prepoznavnima prezbiterijema, enoladijska cerkev z narteksom in baptisterijem pa je vidna tudi na južni strani naselbine. Bivalna, sakralna in obrambna arhitektura kaže na veliko semiurbano naselbino z osrednjimi upravno-religioznimi funkcijami. V drugi polovici 5. in 6. st. se je vanjo zateklo romansko prebivalstvo Vipavske doline.

Z arheološko interpretacijo lidarskih podatkov in terenskim delom smo raziskovali obseg in tloris poznoantične naselbine. Določili smo potek obodnega zidu ter število in obliko stavb, prepoznali cisterno in cerkev. S sondiranjem smo ugotovili posamezne konstrukcijske detajle in na tlaku ene izmed stavb odkrili zoglenele ostanke kulturnih rastlin. Kronologija poselitve se opira na tipokronološko analizo predmetov; prvo zanesljivo poselitev nakazujejo predmeti iz 4. st. in z začetka 5. st., povezujemo jih z opremo vojakov in uradnikov. Največjo poselitev nakazuje veliko število arheoloških predmetov s konca 5. st. in začetka 6. st. Glede na način gradnje stavb v strnjenih nizih in omejen prostor domnevamo, da so večino prepoznanih objektov zgradili v tem obdobju. Posamezne drobne najdbe povezujemo z Germani, dele vojaške opreme oficirjev in poveljnikov ter pečat s portretom Justinijana I. pa z bizantinsko vojsko in upravo.

Izhodišča: Uvedba klinične prakse v začetne letnike študija pomeni uvedba zgodnjega stika z bolnikom in priložnost, da se v učni proces dejavno vključijo klinični mentorji. Namen prispevka je ugotoviti, kako so študenti ocenili izpolnjevanje zastavljenih učnih ciljev, ter predstaviti analizo kvantitativnih in kvalitativnih ocen pouka prve generacije študentov prvega letnika medicine in dentalne medicine o obvezni klinični praksi v študijskem letu 2021/22. Metode: Med študenti 1. letnikov medicine in dentalne medicine smo izvedli za študente obvezno anonimno anketo ob koncu izvajanja klinične prakse v študijskem letu 2021/22. Sestavljena je bila iz vprašanj zaprtega tipa, pri katerih je bila uporabljena Likertova skala z oceno od 1 do 5, in vprašanj odprtega tipa. Kvantitativne podatke smo analizirali z uporabo metod deskriptivne statistike in Mann-Whitneyevega testa za dva neodvisna vzorca, kvalitativno zbrane podatke smo analizirali z deskriptivno analizo prejetih opisnih odgovorov študentov. Rezultati: Anketo so izpolnili 304 študentje (100 % odziv), med katerimi je bilo 245 študentov medicine (80,6 %) in 59 (19,4 %) študentov dentalne medicine. Število študentk je bilo 271, kar je predstavljalo 71,4 % udeležencev. Študenti so poročali, da so bili učni cilji v celoti izpolnjeni. Pretežno so bili zadovoljni z usvojitvijo kliničnih veščin in veščin nudenja nujne medicinske pomoči. Pomembno slabše so usvojitev kliničnih veščin ocenili študentje dentalne medicine (Mann-Whitney 8689,5; p =0,009). Najbolje ocenjeni del celotnega predmeta je bila prav praksa v kliničnem okolju, ki je bila ocenjena z mediano 5 (interkvartilni razmik 0). Vlogo mentorja so študenti ocenili izjemno pozitivno, kar 288 (94,7 %) študentov bi namreč svojega mentorja zanesljivo priporočilo kolegom. Zaključki: Študenti so klinično prakso v prvem letniku ocenili kot izjemno pozitivno izkušnjo. Najvišjo oceno so podelili kliničnim mentorjem. Prepoznani vlogi mentorjev klinične prakse v izobraževanju študentov medicine in dentalne medicine bo zato sledila še formalna ureditev statusa mentorjev klinične prakse.

Research on sexual harassment and gender-based violence in academia shows that these issues are widespread and complex and that victims face significant barriers, often resulting in under-reporting and cases remaining unresolved. In Slovenia, these issues have received less attention compared to other forms of gender-based violence, resulting in a lack of research, public debate and systematic regulation. A research project funded by the Ministry of Education and the Slovenian Research Agency aimed to investigate how Slovenian academic institutions deal with sexual violence and harassment. The project found a general lack of comprehensive policies and highlighted the need for more proactive measures to effectively address these issues. The results of the project, which are presented in this article, provide insights into the prevalence, regulation and institutional responses to sexual violence and harassment in Slovenian higher education. Sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence are widespread social phenomena, and thus also present in academic field. To examine how the gender regimes of Slovenian academic institutions are reflected in their internal regulations regarding sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence, we analyse them in this paper. We find that public higher education institutions, notably the University of Ljubljana and its Faculty of Arts, regulate this area more comprehensively than private higher education institutions and public research institutes. Lesna panoga potrebuje izobražen kader z ustreznimi kompetencami, če se želi prilagajati družbenemu in gospodarskemu razvoju, proizvajati izdelke z višjo dodano vrednostjo, uporabljati sodobne tehnologije in uvesti digitalne ter trajnostne poslovne modele. Glavni cilj raziskave je bil analizirati kadrovske potrebe in izobrazbeno strukturo zaposlenih v lesnem sektorju ter ugotoviti potencial izobraževanja v lesarstvu v Sloveniji. V raziskavi smo dokazali povezavo med izobrazbeno strukturo zaposlenih in uspešnostjo panoge, ugotovili pa smo tudi, da se vzporedno s povečevanjem števila zaposlenih v lesarstvu, povečujejo tudi potrebe po kadrih z lesarsko izobrazbo vseh stopenj izobrazbe. Potencial izobraževanja v lesarstvu v Sloveniji je torej velik, pri čemer pa je nujno, da pri razvoju izobraževalnih programov poleg izobraževalnih institucij, ki morajo ponuditi sodobne programe in načine izvedbe, sodeluje tudi gospodarstvo, ki se vključuje v izvajanje in definira potrebe ter poskrbi za promocijo lesarstva in lesarskih poklicev ob podpori države, ki mora poskrbeti predvsem za sistemsko ureditev materialnih in kadrovskih pogojev, ki bodo omogočili kakovostno izobraževanje.

Vladimir Lovec (1922–1992) je pomembno soustvarjal glasbeno življenje Kopra in slovenske Istre v 2. polovici 20. stoletja kot skladatelj, dirigent, pedagog in ravnatelj koprske glasbene šole, glasbeni kritik in publicist ter dejaven pri organizaciji glasbenih dogodkov, s svojimi kompozicijami pa je prispeval tudi k slovenski glasbeni dediščini.

This paper seeks to underscore the significance of Grlica as a pivotal journal for youth music in Slovenia from 1953 to 1988. It explores how Grlica played a crucial role in conveying the ideological and socio-political aspects of the socialist system prevalent during that period. Applying historical-developmental and historical-comparative methods, the paper presents three key findings. Firstly, Grlica was primarily a professional journal, with little to no ideological components. Secondly, the ones we do find were predominantly present in the initial period of Grlica's publication, i.e., until 1965, becoming increasingly rare as time wore on. Thirdly, composers who published their works in Grlica held diverse ideological and musical orientations, indicating that Grlica was not only a professional journal but also characterised by broad-minded and open perspectives. This article follows chronologically the changes in the public perception of Laibach in Slovenia, Yugoslavia and the post-Yugoslav countries, Laibach's relation to the Slovenian state, and the group's status of informal (and occasionally formal) cultural ambassadors of Slovenia in the post-Yugoslav context. Because the state (in abstract terms) and Slovenian cultural identity play such an important role in Laibach's artistic output, their formal and informal representation of the Slovenian state and national identity are often misperceived by the media and cultural commentators. Aprila 2024 se je v prostorih Oddelka za etnologijo in kulturno antropologijo (FF UL) zbrala večina raziskovalk in raziskovalcev, ki s svojimi raziskovalnimi prizadevanji negujemo in plemenitimo folkloristiko v Sloveniji. Tretja izvedba bienalne slovenske folkloristične konference je postregla s pestrim naborom znanstvenih in strokovnih prispevkov, s katerimi so udeleženke in udeleženci predstavili svoje aktualne raziskave, dognanja in razmišljanja v tej vedi. Posebnih vsebinskih usmeritev konferenca ni imela, vseeno pa je njen programski odbor že v pozivu k oddaji prispevkov napovedal, da bo, če bo prijavljenih dovolj vsebinsko ustreznih referatov, del konference posvečen vprašanjem in izzivom, ki jih (tudi) za folkloristiko prinaša vzpon digitalnih informacijskih in komunikacijskih tehnologij.

Digitalizacija podeželja temelji na vzpostavitvi digitalne infrastrukture in uporabi digitalnih orodij. V tem procesu obstajajo med podeželskimi območji pomembne razlike glede razvojnih korakov (npr. časovni, investicijski, prostorski vidik vzpostavitve digitalne infrastrukture in orodij) in se oblikujejo digitalni razkoraki (razlike v razpoložljivosti in dostopnosti digitalne infrastrukture, uporabi digitalnih orodij), kar smo preučevali na območju lokalne akcijske skupine (LAS) Od Pohorja do Bohorja. Za vpogled v pragmatični vidik neposrednega uporabnika digitalne infrastrukture in digitalnih orodij smo izvedli spletni anketi, v katerih se je izkazalo, da lokalni prebivalci digitalizacijo večinoma dojemajo pozitivno kot orodje pri vsakodnevnih opravilih, da pozitivno digitalizacijo dojemajo tudi osnovnošolci, pri čemer se zavedajo tudi negativnih plati. Prostorska analiza obstoječe digitalne infrastrukture je pokazala, da je le-ta v večini občin LAS Od Pohorja do Bohorja pomanjkljiva, redke investicije v digitalno infrastrukturo so pogosto omejene na središča občin. Ker je digitalizacija postala sestavni in nemalokrat tudi ključni del sodobnega življenja in dela, smo s pomočjo kritične samorefleksije intervjuvancev na preučevanem območju prepoznali, da ima vsak posameznik drugačno dojemanje, razumevanje in stopnjo uporabe digitalne infrastrukture in digitalnih orodij. Empirično-konceptualne ugotovitve fokusne skupine nakazujejo neučinkovitost državnih organov pri investicijah v digitalno opremljenost, premalo informacijskih vsebin v predmetniku osnovne šole ter veliko vlogo digitalne infrastrukture in digitalnih orodij pri delu in prostem času.

V članku so predstavljene možnosti rabe kalkulatorja ekološkega odtisa v vzgoji in izobraževanju, še posebej z vidika razvijanja kompetenc za trajnostni razvoj. Čeprav je empirična raziskava potekala v visokošolskem prostoru (študentke in študenti geografije na Univerzi v Ljubljani), je v prilagojeni obliki mogoče opisani pristop k obravnavi posameznikovih pritiskov na okolje in možnosti njihovega zmanjševanja prenesti tudi v osnovnošolsko in srednješolsko prakso. Večina sodelujočih je v obravnavi ekološkega odtisa prepoznala pomemben prispevek k vzgoji in izobraževanju za trajnostni razvoj.

Prispevek obravnava povratne selitve slovenskih izseljencev in njihovih potomcev iz Argentine. V prvem delu prispevka se osredotočamo na splošni oris povratnih selitev, ki se v kontekstu globalizacije in naraščajočih migracijskih tokov pojavljajo kot odziv na spremenjene življenjske okoliščine, ekonomske priložnosti ali kot posledica iskanja osebne in kulturne identitete ter predstavljamo ozadje in zgodovinski kontekst slovenskega izseljevanja v Argentino in orišemo značilnosti slovenske diaspore v Argentini. V drugem delu predstavljamo analizo in interpretacijo rezultatov podatkov, ki smo jih zbrali s pomočjo polstrukturiranih intervjujev biografsko-interpretativne narativne metode med slovenskimi priseljenci iz Argentine, ki v Sloveniji predstavljajo specifično skupnost in vzdržujejo transnacionalne povezave z Argentino.

V prispevku je predstavljena podnebna tipizacije Slovenije za klimatološko obdobje 1991–2020. Izhodišče za členitev je bila Köppen-Geigerjeva klasifikacija, ki pa je pregroba za prikaz vseh podnebnih specifik Slovenije. Z upoštevanjem dodatnih temperaturnih in padavinskih kriterijev smo slovensko podnebje razčlenili na štiri osnovne tipe z devetimi podtipi: zmerno sredozemsko (obalno in zaledno), zmerno celinsko (severovzhodne, vzhodne in jugovzhodne ter osrednje Slovenije), gorsko (višjega in nižjega gorskega sveta) in podgorsko podnebje (zelo vlažno in vlažno).

Atlant je prvi atlasa sveta v slovenskem jeziku. Izhajal je med letoma 1869 in 1877, ko je večina Slovencev živela v Avstro-Ogrski. Prvi atlas sveta Abrahama Orteliusa je izšel leta 1570 in prvi avstrijski atlas sveta Franza Johanna Josepha von Reillyja leta 1796. V obeh je ozemlje današnje Slovenije prikazano na več zemljevidih. Atlant je uredil Matej Cigale, ki je opravil pionirsko delo pri slovenjenju zemljepisnih imen in ohranjanju slovenskih eksonimov. V slovenskih zemljepisnih imenih se kažejo takratna razmerja med slovenščino in drugimi jeziki. Atlas je pomemben zaradi uporabe slovenskih zemljepisnih imen na zemljevidih. Vplival je tudi na poznejše atlase sveta, še posebej prve šolske atlase v slovenskem jeziku. Leta 2005 je izšel faksimile Atlanta s spremnimi študijami.

We analysed the data on 876 patients after lower limb amputation who were admitted to inpatient rehabilitation at the University Rehabilitation Institute in Ljubljana from 2015 to 2017. Upon admission, they were asked about falls at home and/or in the acute hospital since the amputation. The data on comorbidities was also recorded. Six months after discharge, the patients were asked about falls in their home environment. In addition, a test group took part in a short education during inpatient rehabilitation about fall prevention. We applied tobit, negative binomial, logistic, Poisson, zero-inflated Poisson and proportional odds regression models to assess the effect of potential fall risk factors. All regression models were fitted with main effects only. The models for falls during inpatient rehabilitation were adjusted for the length of hospital stay (either as offset variable or as predictor). Different regression models with different assumptions led to similar conclusions. A short-term effect of the education program was observed. Unilateral amputation, age, female sex, falls before admission to inpatient rehabilitation and stroke and/or myocardial infarction proved to be the main risk factors for falls at various stages after lower limb amputation. A new study of corrosion plains in Slovenia provides a systematic classification based on their geological settings and morphology. They are grouped into four types: karst plains, dry poljes, marginal plains of contact karst, and marginal plains of fluviokarst. Karst plains are the largest, formed through denudation under stable tectonic and hydrogeological conditions. Dry poljes are closed basins composed of bedrock and scattered sediment. Marginal plains of contact karst are formed at the boundary between non-karst and karst environments, while marginal plains of fluviokarst result from multiphase formation of poljes due to tectonic activity. This study examines conspiratorial beliefs associated with the coronavirus pandemic in the United States, the European Union, and Slovenia. Drawing on a case-based approach, this research seeks to understand the underlying factors that have led to the emergence of conspiratorial beliefs regarding the coronavirus and the COVID-19 disease. We analysed surveys from the US and the EU to investigate the support of the general population towards the selected statements and beliefs closely connected to prevailing conspiracy theories. We seek the answer to the question of which demographic and societal factors contribute the most towards people's beliefs about the origins of coronavirus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

V prispevku je predstavljena podnebna tipizacije Slovenije za klimatološko obdobje 1991-2020. Izhodišče za členitev je bila Köppen-Geigerjeva klasifikacija, ki pa je pregroba za prikaz vseh podnebnih specifik Slovenije. Z upoštevanjem dodatnih temperaturnih in padavinskih kriterijev smo slovensko podnebje razčlenili na štiri osnovne tipe z devetimi podtipi: zmerno sredozemsko (obalno in zaledno), zmerno celinsko (severovzhodne, vzhodne in jugovzhodne ter osrednje Slovenije), gorsko (višjega in nižjega gorskega sveta) in podgorsko podnebje (zelo vlažno in vlažno).

Članek se ukvarja z analizo grobov, izkopanih pri Župni cerkvi v Kranju, ki so bili na podlagi dosedanjih raziskav opredeljeni kot najstarejši na tem grobišču. Za takšne so bili do zdaj opredeljeni grobovi (večinoma) brez pridatkov, ki so bili globoko vkopani v prostorne in med seboj pravilno razmeščene grobne jame, obložene s kamni oz. lesom in orientirane proti vzhodu. Posamezne skupine takšnih grobov, izkopanih do leta 1984, so bile na podlagi arheoloških primerjav datirane v konec 7. in v 8. st. Analiza stratigrafije grobov celotnega grobišča, v katero smo vključili tudi ugotovitve poznejših izkopavanj in pregled zgodovine raziskav, pokažejo, da pri grobovih, do zdaj opredeljenih kot najstarejših, ni šlo vselej za stratigrafsko najstarejše grobove in da so bile med nekaterimi tudi superpozicije. V prispevku skušamo ugotoviti čas začetka pokopavanja na podlagi starih in novih kronoloških podatkov (relativna kronologija grobov in tipokronologija). Za izbrane stratigrafsko najstarejše grobove na tem grobišču prvič prinašamo radiokarbonske datacije (14C), ki smo jih časovno zožili z datacijami stratigrafsko mlajših grobov s predmeti. Obravnavani grobovi se po gradnji groba ločijo na dve skupini. Pokopavanje se je začelo najverjetneje v 8. st., pred letom 774/775 (14C) s prvo skupino, z možnim trajanjem vse do začetka pokopavanja druge skupine. Druga skupina grobov ni starejša od leta 774 in se je začela že pred začetkom 9. st. ali najpozneje takrat.

V prispevku so predstavljeni rezultati izkopavanja dveh starejšeželeznodobnih gomil G 21 in G 22, ki pripadata gomilnemu grobišču na Godeško-Reteških dobravah pri Škofji Loki. Gomili sta bili raziskani leta 2020 v okviru zaščitnih arheoloških izkopavanj, ki so potekala zaradi širitve industrijske cone Trata. V gomili G 21 so bili odkriti trije žgani grobovi, od tega eden s pridatkom železne sulične osti, železne plavutaste sekire, fibulo in posodo. Na podlagi najdb so grobovi datirani v prvo polovico ali sredino 5. st. pr. n. št. V obeh gomilah so bili v nasutjih odkriti odlomki različnih keramičnih posod z rdeče-črnim premazom, drobci sežganih kosti ter posamezne najdbe železnih nožev in delov noše; gre za ostanke uničenih grobov in nakazujejo nekoliko širši časovni razpon gomil že od konca 7. ali 6. st. pr. n. št. naprej.

Prazgodovinska naselbina na prostoru današnje Ljubljane je bila zgrajena na stičišču pomembnih prometnic in je delovala kot trgovsko središče že od kulture žarnih grobišč. Življenje v njej je potekalo od 13. do 5. st. pr. n. št., pri čemer je od sredine 8. in v 7. st. pr. n. št. opazen drastičen upad v poselitvi, kar se odraža tudi v majhnem številu grobov. Notranja struktura naselbine, odkrite na Tribuni (predel Prul), nam priča o premišljeni, dobro načrtovani ter strnjeni poselitvi. V njej se zrcalijo zametki urbanih elementov, sploh upoštevajoč domnevo, da je akropola stala na strateško pomembnem Grajskem hribu in da je bilo na Tribuni »spodnje mesto« večjega naselbinskega areala, v katerem so živeli in ustvarjali obrtniki (rokodelci) in trgovci. Ob reki Ljubljanici bi smeli pričakovati predel z gospodarskimi objekti oz. delavnicami ter pristan, na območju Poljan pa zaradi rodovitnih evtričnih rjavih tal polja, na katerih so uspevale kultivirane rastline.

Recently, a patient-reported experience measure (PREM) was developed in Slovenia to assess patients’ experiences with outpatient specialist healthcare clinics. The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties (including factor structure, reliability, convergent validity, and response distribution) of the questionnaire.

Raziskava korozijskih uravnav v Sloveniji podaja sistematično klasifikacijo korozijskih uravnav na podlagi njihovih geoloških in morfoloških značilnosti. Klasifikacija jih združuje v štiri kategorije: kraški ravnik, suho kraško polje, robna uravnava kontaktnega krasa in robna uravnava fluviokrasa. Kraški ravniki so največji in nastanejo z denudacijo v stabilnih tektonskih in hidrogeoloških razmerah. Suha kraška polja so zaprte živoskalne kotanje le mestoma prekrite s sedimenti. Robne uravnave kontaktnega krasa so nastale na stiku kraških in nekraških kamnin. Robne uravnave fluviokrasa so nastale z večfaznim razvojem kraških polj zaradi tektonske dejavnosti. Ta raziskava prispeva k boljšemu razumevanju korozijskih uravnav in lahko pomaga pri njihovi identifikaciji in upravljanju v kraških območij.

Članek zarisuje recepcijo gregorijanskega korala v Sloveniji v 19. stoletju. Na podlagi virov opisuje stanje v prvi polovici stoletja ter vpliv prvih poskusov na historistični estetiki utemeljenih reformnih prizadevanj. Podrobno opazuje razmah cecilijanskega gibanja po letu 1877 in na podlagi virov analizira sredstva, vsebino in uspešnost njegovih reformnih prizadevanj.

The article addresses the governance of water commons with an emphasis on drinking water. The study applied two conceptual frameworks: Ostrom's Design Principles and the Social-Ecological Systems framework. The empirical part refers to two water commons in Slovenia and is based on qualitative data from semi-structured interviews with locals and professionals. The article follows three objectives: 1) to identify the drivers and motivations for successful local water governance; 2) to assess the robustness of water commons in terms of current and future challenges; 3) to identify the benefits of water commons. The key elements for the functioning of the two local communities under examination are shared interests, as well as a strong commitment to effective management. In addition to the material benefits (i.e. drinking water supply), non-material ones are also important. Community building and identity are particularly noteworthy. The importance of small drinking water supply systems that are well organised and responsibly governed as commons is beneficial not only to a municipality but also to a country. The main challenge of cultural landscapes is how to manage them, and the concept of commons through collective actions can help in this regard. Based on a questionnaire, 21 collective actions related to cultural landscapes in Slovenia were examined using descriptive statistics. Results show that 1) traditional and transforming commons deal with forests and pastures, whereas new ones are more diverse regarding land use but in significantly smaller areas; 2) new commons indicate possible future mechanism, but they do not (yet) have an impact on cultural landscapes; 3) the main benefits of commons refer to social aspects followed by non-material and regulative benefits; material benefits are ranked last; and 4) new collective actions, especially in urban areas, have difficulties obtaining lands which threatens their existence. Nature conservation in farmland is often based on the wide adoption of suitable farming practices, which are effectively coordinated at the landscape level. However, more advanced policy approaches to spatial coordination often require cooperation between farmers. We use quantitative analysis of 521 surveyed farmers and qualitative thematic analysis of 123 interviews in Natura 2000 sites Haloze and Kras in Slovenia to explore farmers' preferences towards a collective bonus, which could stimulate higher adoption of grassland conservation schemes. Abandonment of farming, low interest in agri-environmental schemes and changes in social relations (individualisation of farming and distrust among actors) were identified as critical barriers to farmer cooperation in the context of agri-environmental policy. This article aims to analyse the response of private forest owners to a series of extreme environmental disturbances in the Slovenian karst region in the period 2014-2016. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of empirical forest management data on response time and harvesting time, as well as interpretations of response drivers, led to the identification of forest commons as a fast and efficient type of forest ownership, despite almost a century of state suppression of their local institutions. Among the internal and external response drivers, a norm of responsibility and forest management competence were highlighted. Our study highlights the potential of forest commons for active forest management in Europe. A concerted response from private and state institutions should not only take into account economies of scale, but also traditional knowledge and local social norms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
