Various helium-containing titanium films were deposited on Si substrates by magnetron sputtering under different helium/argon (He/Ar) ambiances. Helium concentrations and corresponding depth profiles in the Ti films are obtained by elastic recoil detection analysis (ERDA). X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements are carried out to evaluate the crystallization of the titanium films. Vacancy-type defects and their depth profiles were revealed by slow positron beam analysis (SPBA). It is found that the defect-characteristic parameter S rises with the increment of the He/Ar flow ratios. The variation of S indicates the formation and evolution of various Herelated defects, with uniform distribution into the depth around 400 nm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Effects of pre-damage by 500 keV argon ion implantation on deuterium-induced blistering in tungsten has been investigated. After low-energy (40 eV) and high-flux (∼10 24 D/m 2 s) deuterium plasma exposure with short exposure duration (100 s), a large increase of deuterium retention is found in the pre-damaged tungsten, while surface blistering is significantly suppressed as compared to the un-damaged one. According to elastic recoil detection analysis, a local deuterium concentration peak is observed at a depth of ∼100 nm for the un-damaged tungsten, which is supposed to be related to the surface blistering with nanometer size. Comparison of deuterium retention in the near surface (within 300 nm) and in the bulk suggests that deuterium inward diffusion is more significant in the pre-damaged tungsten. It is speculated that the creation of deuterium trap-sites and enhancement of deuterium inward diffusion give rise to an increase of critical deuterium concentration for blistering and contribute to the suppressed deuterium-induced blistering on pre-damaged tungsten under the present exposure conditions. The equations of state (EOS) of Iridium are, for the first time, obtained by solving the high-dimension integral of partition function based on a recently developed approach of ultrahigh efficiency and precision without any artificial parameter, and the deviation of 0.25% and 1.52% from the experiments was achieved respectively for the isobaric EOS in a temperature range of 300 K-2500 K and the isothermal EOS at 300 K up to 300 GPa. Specific comparisons show that the deviation of EOS based on harmonic approximation even including anharmonic effect, manifests worse than ours by several times or even one order of magnitude, indicating that ensemble theory is the very approach to understand the thermodynamic properties of condensed matter., (© 2022 IOP Publishing Ltd.)
