Maturation of auditory cortex neural encoding processes was assessed in children with typical development (TD) and autism. Children 6-9 years old were enrolled at Time 1 (T1), with follow-up data obtained ~ 18 months later at Time 2 (T2), and ~ 36 months later at Time 3 (T3). Findings suggested an initial period of rapid auditory cortex maturation in autism, earlier than TD (prior to and surrounding the T1 exam), followed by a period of faster maturation in TD than autism (T1-T3). As a result of group maturation differences, post-stimulus group differences were observed at T1 but not T3. In contrast, stronger pre-stimulus activity in autism than TD was found at all time points, indicating this brain measure is stable across time.

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are intriguing for biomass fractionation, but high DES dosage and low biomass loading make them challenging to be used in industry. In this study, a DES was integrated into a novel pretreatment technology, namely "Densifying Lignocellulosic biomass with Chemicals followed by Autoclave (DLCA)", to realize lignocellulose fractionation and valorization with low DES dosage and high fractionation efficiency. Remarkably, a total DES dosage of 2 g g−1 biomass, which is substantially low compared to traditional DES pretreatments, achieved a high delignification ratio of 75% with over 95% cellulose preserved at 50% solid loading. Moreover, DLCA(DES)-CS exhibited superior bioconversion efficiency even at high solid loadings, with the maximum total fermentable sugar concentration exceeding 300 g L−1 and the ethanol concentration as high as 110 g L−1. Comprehensive characterization methods such as SEM, XRD, FTIR and Simons' staining were used to disclose the properties of cellulose-rich solids, and the chemical structure of the extracted lignin was characterized by GPC and 2D-HSQC NMR spectroscopy, revealing that DLCA(DES) pretreatment not only ensured complete exposure of cellulose, but also remarkably protected the native structures of lignin. Without recondensation, lignin extracted by DLCA(DES) preserved more than 98% of native β-O-4 linkages. In brief, this study demonstrates great potential for lignocellulose valorization initiated by DLCA(DES) pretreatment, including polysaccharide conversion to bioethanol and selective lignin depolymerization to aromatic monomers. DLC pretreatment is a novel and efficient pretreatment method for lignocellulosic biomass, but its mechanism of action has not been illustrated yet. In this study, a systematic investigation was conducted to find that the synergy of acidic chemical and mechanical actions during DLC pretreatment played an important role to ensure excellent performance. Mechanical actions likely exposed the internal polysaccharides of biomass by disrupting the cell wall structure, and the exposed polysaccharides reacted with concentrated acid until they were partially deconstructed, thereby significantly reducing the severity of subsequent dilute acid treatment. This synergism increased the accessible breakpoints of crystalline cellulose to cellulase by reducing the cellulose crystallinity and polymerization degree, as well as by digesting amorphous cellulose. Additionally, the large removal (about 60%) of hemicellulose increased biomass porosity. The native lignin structure was well preserved without the generation of pseudo-lignin and large amounts of toxic degradation products. These properties contribute to the high sugar recovery (97.2%), great digestibility (83.4% total yield of monosaccharides), and outstanding fermentability of DLC biomass; these results are not achievable for traditional dilute acid pretreatment. Simultaneous saccharification and co-fermentation of DLC-pretreated rice straw resulted in an ethanol titer as high as 82.9 g L−1 without detoxification. Detailed structural analysis revealed that the well-preserved inter-unit linkages (>80%) and non-condensed subunits remained in the DLC lignin. In a relaxed and awake state with the eyes closed, 8–12 Hz neural oscillations are the dominant rhythm, most prominent in parietal‐occipital regions. Resting‐state (RS) alpha is associated with processing speed and is also thought to be central to how networks process information. Unfortunately, the RS eyes‐closed (EC) exam can only be used with individuals who can remain awake with their eyes closed for an extended period. As such, infants, toddlers, and individuals with intellectual disabilities are usually excluded from RS alpha studies. Previous research suggests obtaining RS alpha measures in a dark room with the eyes open as a viable alternative to the traditional RS EC exam. To further explore this, RS EC and RS dark room (DR) eyes‐open alpha activity was recorded using magnetoencephalography in children with typical development (TD; N = 37) and children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD; N = 30) 6.9–12.6 years old. Findings showed good reliability for the RS EC and DR peak alpha frequency (frequency with strongest alpha power; interclass correlation (ICC) = 0.83). ICCs for posterior alpha power were slightly lower (ICCs in the 0.70 s), with an ~ 5% reduction in posterior alpha power in the DR than EC condition. No differences in the EC and DR associations were observed between the TD and ASD groups. Finally, age was associated with both EC and DR peak alpha frequency. Corncob is a potential feedstock for biorefineries to produce cellulosic ethanol and other chemicals. Densifying lignocellulosic biomass with chemicals followed by autoclave (DLCA) has been confirmed an efficient and economical pretreatment method, and it was applied in the present work for conversion of corncob to bioethanol. The dosage of sulfuric acid, solid loading of biomass, and autoclave time for pretreatment were investigated. Enzymatic hydrolysis at 25–35% solids loadings resulted in 91–97% sugar conversions. Fermentation of the resulted hydrolysates went well with the highest ethanol titer reaching 75.71 g/L at 35% solid loading. Simultaneous saccharification and co-fermentation was applied to further improve xylose consumption at high solids loadings and the ethanol titer was enhanced to 82.0 g/L at 35% solid loading with an ethanol yield of 21.67 kg/100 kg corncob. There is an increasing interest in alpha‐range rhythms in the electroencephalogram (EEG) in relation to perceptual and attentional processes. The infant mu rhythm has been extensively studied in the context of linkages between action observation and action production in infancy, but less is known about the mu rhythm in relation to cross‐modal processes involving somatosensation. We investigated differences in mu responses to cued vibrotactile stimulation of the hand in two age groups of infants: From 6 to 7 months and 13 to 14 months. We were also interested in anticipatory neural responses in the alpha frequency range prior to tactile stimulation. Tactile stimulation of infants' left or right hand was preceded by an audiovisual cue signaling which hand would be stimulated. In response to the tactile stimulus, infants demonstrated significant mu desynchronization over the central areas contralateral to the hand stimulated, with higher mu peak frequency and greater contralateral mu desynchronization for older infants. Prior to the tactile stimulus, both age groups showed significant bilateral alpha desynchronization over frontocentral sites, which may be indicative of generalized anticipation of an upcoming stimulus. BACKGROUND: Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are environmentally persistent chemicals widely detected in women of reproductive age. Prenatal PFAS exposure is associated with adverse health outcomes in children. We hypothesized that DNA methylation changes may result from prenatal PFAS exposure and may be linked to offspring cardio-metabolic phenotype. OBJECTIVES: We estimated associations of prenatal PFAS with DNA methylation in umbilical cord blood. We evaluated associations of methylation at selected sites with neonatal cardio-metabolic indicators. METHODS: Among 583 mother–infant pairs in a prospective cohort, five PFAS were quantified in maternal serum (median 27 wk of gestation). Umbilical cord blood DNA methylation was evaluated using the Illumina HumanMethylation450 array. Differentially methylated positions (DMPs) were evaluated at a false discovery rate (FDR)< 0.05 and differentially methylated regions (DMRs) were identified using comb-p (Å idák-adjusted 푝< 0.05). We estimated associations between methylation at candidate DMPs and DMR sites and the following outcomes: newborn weight, adiposity, and cord blood glucose, insulin, lipids, and leptin. RESULTS: Maternal serum PFAS concentrations were below the median for females in the U.S. general population. Moderate to high pairwise correlations were observed between PFAS concentrations (?= 0.28-0.76). Methylation at one DMP (cg18587484), annotated to the gene TJAP1, was associated with perfluorooctanoate (PFOA) at FDR < 0.05. Comb-p detected between 4 and 15 DMRs for each PFAS. Associated genes, some common across multiple PFAS, were implicated in growth (RPTOR), lipid homeostasis (PON1, PON3, CIDEB, NR1H2), inflammation and immune activity (RASL11B, RNF39), among other functions. There was suggestive evidence that two PFAS-associated loci (cg09093485, cg09637273) were associated with cord blood triglycerides and birth weight, respectively (FDR < 0.1). DISCUSSION: DNA methylation in umbilical cord blood was associated with maternal serum PFAS concentrations during pregnancy, suggesting potential associations with offspring growth, metabolism, and immune function. Functional brain markers that can inform research on brain abnormalities, and especially those ready to facilitate clinical work on such abnormalities, will need to show not only considerable sensitivity and specificity but enough consistency with respect to developmental course that their validity in individual cases can be trusted. A challenge to establishing such markers may be individual differences in developmental course. The present study examined auditory cortex activity in children at an age when developmental changes to the auditory cortex 50 ms (M50) and 100 ms (M100) components are prominent to better understand the use of auditory markers in pediatric clinical research. MEG auditory encoding measures (auditory evoked fields in response to pure tone stimuli) were obtained from 15 typically developing children 6–8 years old, with measures repeated 18 and 36 months after the initial exam. MEG analyses were conducted in source space (i.e., brain location), with M50 and M100 sources identified in left and right primary/secondary auditory cortex (Heschl's gyrus). A left and right M50 response was observed at all times (Time 1, Time 2, Time 3), with M50 latency (collapsing across hemisphere) at Time 3 (77 ms) 10 ms earlier than Time 1 (87 ms; p < 0.001) and with M50 responses on average (collapsing across time) 5 ms earlier in the right (80 ms) than left hemisphere (85 ms; p < 0.05). In the majority of children, however, M50 latency changes were not constant across the three-year period; for example, whereas in some children a ~10 ms latency reduction was observed from Time 1 to Time 2, in other children a ~10 ms latency reduction was observed from Time 2 to Time 3. M100 responses were defined by a significant "peak" of detected power with magnetic field topography opposite M50 and occurring 50–100 ms later than the M50. Although M100s were observed in a few children at Time 1 and Time 2 (and more often in the right than left hemisphere), M100s were not observed in the majority of children except in the right hemisphere at Time 3. In sum, longitudinal findings showed large between- and within-subject variability in rate of change as well as time to reach neural developmental milestones (e.g., presence of a detectable M100 response). Findings also demonstrated the need to examine whole-brain activity, given hemisphere differences in the rate of auditory cortex maturation. The Type I Interferons (IFN-Is) are innate antiviral cytokines that include 12 different IFNα subtypes and IFNβ that signal through the IFN-I receptor (IFNAR), inducing hundreds of IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs) that comprise the 'interferome'. Quantitative differences in IFNAR binding correlate with antiviral activity, but whether IFN-Is exhibit qualitative differences remains controversial. Moreover, the IFN-I response is protective during acute HIV-1 infection, but likely pathogenic during the chronic stages. To gain a deeper understanding of the IFN-I response, we compared the interferomes of IFNα subtypes dominantly-expressed in HIV-1-exposed plasmacytoid dendritic cells (1, 2, 5, 8 and 14) and IFNβ in the earliest cellular targets of HIV-1 infection. Primary gut CD4 T cells from 3 donors were treated for 18 hours ex vivo with individual IFN-Is normalized for IFNAR signaling strength. Of 1,969 IFN-regulated genes, 246 'core ISGs' were induced by all IFN-Is tested. However, many IFN-regulated genes were not shared between the IFNα subtypes despite similar induction of canonical antiviral ISGs such as ISG15, RSAD2 and MX1, formally demonstrating qualitative differences between the IFNα subtypes. Notably, IFNβ induced a broader interferome than the individual IFNα subtypes. Since IFNβ, and not IFNα, is upregulated during chronic HIV-1 infection in the gut, we compared core ISGs and IFNβ-specific ISGs from colon pinch biopsies of HIV-1-uninfected (n = 13) versus age- and gender-matched, antiretroviral-therapy naïve persons with HIV-1 (PWH; n = 19). Core ISGs linked to inflammation, T cell activation and immune exhaustion were elevated in PWH, positively correlated with plasma lipopolysaccharide (LPS) levels and gut IFNβ levels, and negatively correlated with gut CD4 T cell frequencies. In sharp contrast, IFNβ-specific ISGs linked to protein translation and anti-inflammatory responses were significantly downregulated in PWH, negatively correlated with gut IFNβ and LPS, and positively correlated with plasma IL6 and gut CD4 T cell frequencies. Our findings reveal qualitative differences in interferome induction by diverse IFN-Is and suggest potential mechanisms for how IFNβ may drive HIV-1 pathogenesis in the gut. This study examines brain responses to boundary effects with respect to Mandarin lexical tone continua for three groups of adult listeners: (1) native English speakers who took advanced Mandarin courses; (2) naïve English speakers; and (3) native Mandarin speakers. A cross-boundary tone pair and a within-category tone pair derived from tonal contrasts (Mandarin Tone 1/Tone 4; Tone 2/Tone 3) with equal physical/acoustical distance were used in an auditory oddball paradigm. For native Mandarin speakers, the cross-category deviant elicited a larger MMN over left hemisphere sensors and larger P300 responses over both hemispheres relative to within-category deviants, suggesting categorical perception of tones at both pre-attentive and attentional stages of processing. In contrast, native English speakers and Mandarin learners did not demonstrate categorical effects. However, learners of Mandarin showed larger P300 responses than the other two groups, suggesting heightened sensitivity to tones and possibly greater attentional resource allocation to tone identification. The focus of the current study is on a particular aspect of tactile perception: categorical segmentation on the body surface into discrete body parts. The MMN has been shown to be sensitive to categorical boundaries and language experience in the auditory modality. Here we recorded the somatosensory MMN (sMMN) using two tactile oddball protocols and compared sMMN amplitudes elicited by within- and across-boundary oddball pairs. Both protocols employed the identity MMN method that controls for responsivity at each body location. In the first protocol, we investigated the categorical segmentation of tactile space at the wrist by presenting pairs of tactile oddball stimuli across equal spatial distances, either across the wrist or within the forearm. Amplitude of the sMMN elicited by stimuli presented across the wrist boundary was significantly greater than for stimuli presented within the forearm, suggesting a categorical effect at an early stage of somatosensory processing. The second protocol was designed to investigate the generality of this MMN effect, and involved three digits on one hand. Amplitude of the sMMN elicited by a contrast of the third digit and the thumb was significantly larger than a contrast between the third and fifth digits, suggesting a functional boundary effect that may derive from the way that objects are typically grasped. Abstract: Brain responses to tactile stimulation have often been studied through the examination of ERPs elicited to touch on the body surface. Here, we examined two factors potentially modulating the amplitude of the somatosensory mismatch negativity (sMMN) and P300 responses elicited by touch to pairs of body parts: (a) the distance between the representation of these body parts in somatosensory cortex, and (b) the physical distances between the stimulated points on the body surface. The sMMN and the P300 response were elicited by tactile stimulation in two oddball protocols. One protocol leveraged a discontinuity in cortical somatotopic organization, and involved stimulation of either the neck or the hand in relation to stimulation of the lip. The other protocol involved stimulation to the third or fifth finger in relation to the second finger. The neck‐lip pairing resulted in significantly larger sMMN responses (with shorter latencies) than the hand‐lip pairing, whereas the reverse was true for the amplitude of the P300. Mean sMMN amplitude and latency did not differ between finger pairings. However, larger P300 responses were elicited to stimulation of the fifth finger than the third finger. These results suggest that, for certain combinations of body parts, early automatic somatosensory mismatch responses may be influenced by distance between the cortical representations of these body parts, whereas the later P300 response may be more influenced by the distance between stimulated body parts on the body surface. Understanding the interactions between audition and sensorimotor processes is of theoretical importance, particularly in relation to speech processing. Although one current focus in this area is on interactions between auditory perception and the motor system, there has been less research on connections between the auditory and somatosensory modalities. The current study takes a novel approach to this omission by examining specific auditory–tactile interactions in the context of speech and non-speech sound production. Electroencephalography was used to examine brain responses when participants were presented with speech syllables (a bilabial sound /pa/ and a non-labial sound /ka/) or finger-snapping sounds that were simultaneously paired with tactile stimulation of either the lower lip or the right middle finger. Analyses focused on the sensory-evoked N1 in the event-related potential and the extent of alpha band desynchronization elicited by the stimuli. N1 amplitude over fronto-central sites was significantly enhanced when the bilabial /pa/ sound was paired with tactile lip stimulation and when the finger-snapping sound was paired with tactile stimulation of the finger. Post-stimulus alpha desynchronization at central sites was also enhanced when the /pa/ sound was accompanied by tactile stimulation of the lip. These novel findings indicate that neural aspects of somatosensory–auditory interactions are influenced by the congruency between the location of the bodily touch and the bodily origin of a perceived sound. Corn stover (CS) pretreated by DLC (Densifying Lignocellulosic biomass with acidic Chemicals) pretreatment exhibited higher digestibility and much better fermentability compared to traditional pretreatments. Nevertheless, the xylose fermentation, which was a key for lignocellulosic ethanol production, during SHCF (Separate Hydrolysis and Co-Fermentation) was unsatisfactory at high solid loadings. In this study, modified SSCF (Simultaneous Saccharification and Co-Fermentation) was adopted to promote xylose utilization and ethanol yield. SSCF conditions (temperature, inoculation size, nitrogen source addition) were investigated. A novel strategy "Fed-batch of DLC Biomass and Enzyme (FBE)" was developed for SSCF at 28%–35% solid loadings, which showed higher sugar conversion, higher xylose consumption and superior ethanol yield compared to SHCF and traditional SSCF. The highest ethanol titer of 74.6 g/L produced based on DLC pretreatment was achieved during FBE SSCF without water washing or detoxification of DLC-CS. • SSCF was studied on DLCA (sa)-CS without washing or detoxifying pretreated biomass. • A strategy "Fed-batch of DLC Biomass and Enzyme (FBE)" was developed for SSCF. • FBE SSCF greatly improved xylose consumption, sugar conversion and ethanol yield. • The highest ethanol titer of 74.6 g/L based on DLC pretreatment was achieved. The present study investigated the synthesis of mesoporous hollow carbon spheres (MHCS) and magnetic mesoporous hollow carbon spheres with core-shell structures (Fe3O4@MHCS). Two acetylcholinesterase sensors (acetylcholinesterase/mesoporous hollow carbon spheres/glassy carbon electrode (AChE/MHCS/GCE) and acetylcholinesterase/core-shell magnetic mesoporous hollow carbon spheres/glassy carbon electrode (AChE/Fe3O4@MHCS/GCE) based on mesoporous carbon materials were prepared. Under the optimum conditions, using Malathion as the model compound, the developed biosensors showed a wide detection range, low detection limit, good reproducibility, and high stability. The AChE/MHCS/GCE electrochemical sensor response exhibited two good linear ranges at the incubation time of 10 min at the Malathion concentration ranges of 0.01 to 100 ppb and 100 to 600 ppb, with a detection limit of 0.0148 ppb (S/N = 3). The AChE/Fe3O4@MHCS/GCE electrochemical sensor that was operated with an incubation time of 12 min at the malathion concentration ranges between 0.01–50 ppb and 50–600 ppb had a detection limit of 0.0182 ppb (S/N = 3). Moreover, the AChE/MHCS/GCE and AChE/Fe3O4@MHCS/GCE biosensors were effective for the detection of real samples, and were demonstrated to be suitable for the field-testing of organophosphorus pesticide (OP) residues. Humoral immune perturbations contribute to pathogenic outcomes in persons with HIV-1 infection (PWH). Gut barrier dysfunction in PWH is associated with microbial translocation and alterations in microbial communities (dysbiosis), and IgA, the most abundant immunoglobulin (Ig) isotype in the gut, is involved in gut homeostasis by interacting with the microbiome. We determined the impact of HIV-1 infection on the antibody repertoire in the gastrointestinal tract by comparing Ig gene utilization and somatic hypermutation (SHM) in colon biopsies from PWH (n = 19) versus age and sex-matched controls (n = 13). We correlated these Ig parameters with clinical, immunological, microbiome and virological data. Gene signatures of enhanced B cell activation were accompanied by skewed frequencies of multiple Ig Variable genes in PWH. PWH showed decreased frequencies of SHM in IgA and possibly IgG, with a substantial loss of highly mutated IgA sequences. The decline in IgA SHM in PWH correlated with gut CD4+ T cell loss and inversely correlated with mucosal inflammation and microbial translocation. Diminished gut IgA SHM in PWH was driven by transversion mutations at A or T deoxynucleotides, suggesting a defect not at the AID/APOBEC3 deamination step but at later stages of IgA SHM. These results expand our understanding of humoral immune perturbations in PWH that could have important implications in understanding mucosal immune defects in individuals with chronic HIV-1 infection. Background: Influenza is an acute infectious respiratory disease caused by the influenza virus that seriously damages human health, and the essential way to prevent influenza is the influenza vaccine. Vaccines without adjuvants produce insufficient specific antibodies and therefore require adjuvants to boost antibody titers. Microbes and hosts are a community that needs to "promote bacteria," which could provide new value for the immune effect., Methods: (1) The H1N1 influenza vaccine, in combination with Ginsenoside Rb1, was co-injected into mice intraperitoneally (I.P.). Then, immunoglobulin G and antibody subtype levels were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Moreover, mice were infected with a lethal dose of the H1N1 influenza virus (A/Michigan/45/2015), and survival status was recorded for 14 days. Lung tissues were stained by hematoxylin and eosin (H&E), and ELISA detected inflammatory factor expression levels. (2) Mice were immunized with Ginsenoside Rb1 combined with quadrivalent influenza inactivated vaccine(IIV4), and then IgG levels were measured by ELISA. (3) Fresh stool was collected for fecal 16S rDNA analysis., Results: Ginsenoside Rb1 boosted IgG and antibody subtypes in the H1N1 influenza vaccine, improved survival of mice after virus challenge, attenuated lung histopathological damage, and reduced inflammatory cytokines expression in IL-6 and TNF- α . Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is a key enzyme which catalyzes the conversion of arachidonic acid (AA) into prostaglandins (PGs). It plays an important role in pathophysiological processes, such as tumorigenesis, angiogenesis, inflammation and tumor cell drug resistance. Therefore, COX-2 has been viewed as an important target for cancer therapy. The preparation of COX-2 protein is an important initial step for the subsequent development of COX-2 inhibitors. In this study, we report a strategy to heterologously express truncated human COX-2 (trCOX-2) in Escherichia coli (E. coli) BL21(DE3) host cells. Following denaturation, purification and renaturation, we successfully obtained enzymatically active trCOX-2 containing 257 residues of the C-terminus. Homology modeling and molecular docking analyses revealed that trCOX-2 retained the predicted 3D catalytic domain structure and AA could still bind to its hydrophobic groove. Western blot analysis and ELISA indicated that the trCOX-2 still retained its characteristic antigenicity and binding activity, while COX assays revealed that trCOX-2 maintained its enzyme activity. On the whole, in this study, we provided a novel method to isolate trCOX-2 possessing AA binding and catalytic activities. This study thus lays a foundation to facilitate further investigations of COX-2 and offers a valuable method with which to achieve the prokaryotic expression of a eukaryotic membrane protein.

Whether native speakers of non-tonal languages can acquire categorical representations of lexical tones remains controversial. This study investigates the acquisition of lexical tone categories by native English speakers learning Mandarin Chinese as a foreign language by comparing the categorical perception (CP) of lexical tones between three groups of listeners: (1) native English speakers who had taken advanced Mandarin courses in colleges; (2) native English speakers with no knowledge of Mandarin Chinese; and (3) native Mandarin speakers. Two tonal continua derived from natural speech within carrier phrases were created through interpolation within two tonal contrasts (tone 1/tone 4, T1/T4; tone 2/tone 3, T2/T3). Results showed categorical-like perception of tones by native Mandarin speakers. The inexperienced English speakers performed near chance on discrimination tasks and showed significantly broader identification boundaries than the other two groups. The learners of Mandarin showed similar pattern of CP to native Mandarin speakers, but with higher overall discrimination scores. Findings suggest that CP of lexical tone may be available to advanced second language learners.

Apoptosis inhibitor of macrophages (AIM/cluster of differentiation 5 antigen-like/soluble protein α) has been shown to inhibit cellular apoptosis; however, the underlying molecular mechanism has not been elucidated. Using yeast two‑hybrid screening, the present study uncovered that AIM binds to insulin‑like growth factor binding protein‑4 (IGFBP‑4). AIM interaction with IGFBP‑4, as well as IGFBP‑2 and ‑3, but not with IGFBP‑1, ‑5 and ‑6, was further confirmed by co‑immunoprecipitation (co‑IP) using 293 cells. The binding activity and affinity between AIM and IGFBP‑4 in vitro were analyzed by co‑IP and biolayer interferometry. Serum depletion‑induced cellular apoptosis was attenuated by insulin‑like growth factor‑I (IGF‑I), and this effect was abrogated by IGFBP‑4. Of note, in the presence of AIM, the inhibitory effect of IGFBP‑4 on the anti‑apoptosis function of IGF‑I was attenuated, possibly through binding of AIM with IGFBP‑4. In conclusion, to the best of our knowledge, the present study provides the first evidence that AIM binds to IGFBP‑2, ‑3 and ‑4. The data suggest that this interaction may contribute to the mechanism of AIM-mediated anti-apoptosis function.
