In addition, the secondary workforce tends to have less long-term attachment to a single employer, and informal workers most often toil in fragmented workplaces or even alone (as with domestic workers) and may not be considered workers at all. Kwon similarly advocates for coalitions uniting Korea's regular and irregular workers, identity-based worker organizations (young workers, immigrant workers), and broader communities, using as her touchstone the pro-democracy Candlelight Movement that toppled corrupt - and anti-labor - President Park Geun-hye. Though the right to free association is still legally recognized, that right has been whittled away, to the point, Cornell writes, that "millions of workers in the USA continue to be denied the ability to organize collectively, many state and municipal public sector workers have no legal mechanism to bargain collectively or are prohibited by law from doing so, and the vast majority of both private and public sector workers are deprived of any meaningful right to strike" (p. 60). He consistently abstracts to "workers" as a whole, but his proposals to raise the floor under job quality, empower workers, and constrain management's prerogatives would certainly benefit those groups of workers who are located in the worst jobs, most disempowered, and most subject to arbitrary management action. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is the focus of a roundtable review on John D. French's Lula and His Politics of Cunning: From Metalworker to President of Brazil. The reviewers offer a reading of Lula and his legacies from perspectives that range from LGBTQ+ studies to racial politics, including an analysis centered on the story of a humble man that rose from below, "a most exceptional common man," from his humble beginnings up to his election as president; a review that underscores how the book addresses Lula's work with regards to human rights, including race and the LGBTI+ community; a deconstruction of the use of the word "cunning" as a positive term of appreciation, comparing Brazil's journey under Lula with the promise of post-apartheid South Africa; and a reflective commentary that seeks to understand how a figure like Lula is not born but created, in this case through class struggle.
