31. Anion Modulation: Enabling Highly Conductive Stable Polymer Electrolytes for Solid‐State Li‐Metal Batteries.

Abstract

Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) are promising ionic conductors for developing high‐specific‐energy solid‐state lithium metal batteries. However, developing SPEs with both high ionic conductivity and interfacial compatibility remains a challenge. Here, we propose a design concept of an anion‐modulated polymer electrolyte (termed AMPE) for high‐voltage Li metal batteries. Specifically, we design the AMPE by incorporating high‐voltage‐resistant and high charge density units with an anion receptor unit. The high‐voltage‐resistant and high charge density segments contribute to achieving a decent voltage tolerance of the polymer chains and ensure sufficient carrier ions. The anion receptor, represented by a boron‐containing molecule, promotes the generation of free Li+ by dissociating anion‐cation pairs. More importantly, the strong interaction between the electron‐deficient B and the TFSI− in the matrix promotes the anion reduction to form a stable anion‐derived mosaic‐like solid electrolyte interphase on the Li‐metal anode. As a result, the AMPE exhibits a high ionic conductivity of 3.80×10−4 S cm−1 and effectively suppresses lithium dendrites, enabling an all‐solid‐state Li|AMPE|LiCoO2 cell to achieve a cycle life of 700 cycles at an operating voltage of 4.40 V. Abstract

Structural health monitoring obtains data reflecting the service status of grid structures through sensors. One of the issues to consider in optimal sensor placement is how to obtain as much information as possible with a limited number of sensors. In this paper, a sensor placement method is proposed based on damage sensitivity and correlation analysis, which is based on strain energy calculation and is suitable for grid structures. Specifically, with the sensor locations as optimization variables, a mathematical optimization model is established by considering the damage sensitivity and redundancy of the monitoring scheme, and a genetic algorithm is employed for computation. Two examples, including a lattice shell and a flat grid, are provided to illustrate the method, followed by a discussion of the sensitivity of parameters such as stiffness reduction degree and load form. The results indicate that the redundancy of the optimized schemes for the two examples decreased by approximately 80% and 30%, respectively. The proposed method ensures a certain degree of damage sensitivity while significantly reducing redundancy, demonstrating its applicability and robustness in sensor placement for grid structures. Abstract

Solid‐state lithium‐metal batteries are considered as one of the most promising candidates for next‐generation energy storage devices with high energy density and enhanced safety. Great efforts have been made to design solid‐state electrolytes with enhanced ionic conductivity and to protect the electrochemical interface of the lithium anode. However, the obstruction of ionic‐electronic transport within the cathode remains as another key challenge that needs to be addressed for the practical application of solid‐state batteries. Here, we prepared organic mixed ionic‐electronic conductors (OMIECs) by in‐situ co‐polymerization of three organic monomers (boron‐type crosslinker, ionic liquid, and sulfolene) in the network of poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)/poly(4‐styrenesulfonate). The as‐prepared OMIECs show an electronic conductivity up to 33.6 S cm−1 and ionic conductivity of 1.7×10−4 S cm−1 at 30 °C, and also binder functionality, providing a combined path for Li+/e− transport in cathodes and maintaining mechanical/(electro−)chemical stability. As a result, solid‐state cathodes composed of 90.0 wt % active materials and only 10.0 wt % OMIECs display exceptional electrochemical characteristics at 30 °C, including high C‐rate capabilities and prolonged cycle life. This novel design of all‐in‐one OMIECs for carbon‐free cathodes demonstrates a promising strategy for developing multifunctional additives for high‐performance solid‐state batteries.
