Football 7 and Football 9 are worldwide famous – sport-game for children and adolescents from 7 to 12 Years. In this relation, the need for an in-depth analysis of the football training - in particular with the younger football players in our country - is of interest and current, by seeking new forms and diversifying the activities in the physical education and sports lessons that are in line with the national traditions, socio-economic conditions and leading European practices. Such an opportunity is provided by the gaming approach that seeks to explore, summarize and propose effective solutions to optimize football education. This study aims to identify and compare changes in indicators that inform on the specific preparation of pupils from the initial stage of primary education after applying a gaming approach to football education. After the end of the experimental period under the influence of normal biological development and under the influence of the applied gameplay approach with the students from the experimental group, there were significant positive changes. The developed gaming approach should be offered as an opportunity to diversify the organization of the physical education and sports training process in the initial stage of the primary education.

Adapted physical activity is part of the physical activity in the present-day world. It uses a variety of physical exercises and sports as means of education, good upbringing, improvement and fulfilling life. The aim of adapted physical activity is to provide every person with the opportunity for social communication throughout their lives through physical activity as a preventive measure against the aggravation and complication of their illnesses. This study aims to collect information on the knowledge of the rules of adaptations of the basketball game for people with specific needs. The object of the study are the adaptations of the basketball game. The scope of the study is the knowledge of the experts surveyed regarding the adaptations of the basketball game for people with disabilities. The respondents for the research are 92 teachers and physical education experts, basketball coaches, physical education lecturers at higher education institutions with an interest in physical activity and basketball. After processing the data, it is clear that participants in the survey do not know the rules of basketball game adaptations but strongly state their motivation to participate in training seminars on the four adaptations of basketball.

The present study aims to determine the levels of the heavy metals manganese (Mn) and zinc (Zn) contained in the fungicide Mancozeb in the eggs and musculature of the rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss W.) which have grown in an environment, containing a permissible amount of Mancozeb and fed with or without the carotenoid pigment astaxanthin. The study follows the feeding, then the analysis of the level of Mn and Zn in the eggs and musculature of the rainbow trout, treated with and without the pigment astaxanthin and the fungicide Mancozeb. The determination of Mn and Zn concentrations is performed using a modern method for measuring macro- and microelements with an atomic absorption spectrometer, which is characterized by high selectivity, swiftness and sensitivity. Experimental data show accumulation of Mn and Zn, contained in the fungicide Mancozeb even when its concentration in the habitat does not exceed the maximum permissible levels in the normative documents. As a result, the analysis of the eggs and musculature shows the same trend regarding the accumulation of Mn and Zn. In non-fertilized, as well as in fertilized rainbow trout eggs and musculature, the experimental data show a slight increase of Mn and Zn in the presence of only astaxanthin in the added feed and a significant decrease in these metals in the presence of both astaxanthin and Mancozeb. The supplementation of astaxanthin in the diet can significantly reduce the rate of heavy metals accumulation in fish tissues and eggs, but high concentrations of these pollutants in the aquatic environment over a longer period of time would certainly result in metabolic disturbances in the fish body and reduction of their eggs’ hatchability.

One of the most important properties of probiotic bacteria is their antimicrobial activity against many species of microorganisms which could be useful to prevent food spoilage caused by certain sensitive bacteria and fungi as well as to control the speed of propagation of potentially pathogenic bacteria by probiotic application. Lactobacillus plantarum is considered one of the probiotic bacteria with broad-est spectrum of antibacterial activity which makes it useful in veterinary, human medicine and food industry. According to a number of studies Lactobacillus plantarum exerts inhibitory activity against ma¬ny Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria – Escherichia coli (including E. coli 0157:H7), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Helicobacter pylori, Yersinia enterocolitica, Campylobacter jejuni, Lis-teria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Shigella, Bacillus, Clostridium, Enterococcus, Lactobacillus spp., etc. as well as a number of moulds and yeasts – Aspergillus, Fusa-rium, Mucor, Candida spp., etc. The main antibacterial compounds of Lactobacillus plantarum are the bacteriocins and organic acids whereas the antifungal compounds are the organic acids, hydroxy fatty acids and cyclic dipeptides. Because of the high antifungal activity of some L. plantarum strains against food spoilage microorganisms they can be used as effective biopreservatives in food industry. Also, some L. plantarum strains could be applied as supporting therapeutic agents in treatment of infections caused by the corresponding susceptible microorganisms.

Abstract. The purpose of this review is to summarize the information regarding the antimicrobial activity of Lactobacillus acidophilus, an important species of lactic acid bacteria. Lactic acid bacteria are constituents of many beneficent for the consumer's health food products. They are considered potentially promising in the strategy to combat infections and prevent the growth of spoilage microorganisms, and also have antimutagenic, anticarcinogenic, hypolipidemic and hypocholesterolemic properties, improve the lactose metabolism, stimulate the immune system, etc. In the resent years Lactobacillus acidophilus is considered the main probiotic species in the intestinal tract of healthy humans and is widely used in functional dairy foods. It produces a variety of metabolic products with antimicrobial properties, including organic acids and bacteriocins, such as lactacins B and F, acidophilin, acidocin, acidophilucin, acidophilicin, which are active against many pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms - Escherichia coli (including Escherichi coli 0157:H7), Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Listeria monocytogenes, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibrio cholerae, Helicobacter pylori, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Shigella, Bacillus, Clostridium, Mucor, Aspergillus, Fusarium, Trichoderma and Candida spp., etc. Because of the above mentioned reasons Lactobacillus acidophilus could be used as an alternative therapeutic agent against infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. On the other hand Lactobacillus acidophilus based antimicrobial products (mainly bacteriocins and pure cultures) could also be applied to food products to prevent the growth of spoilage microorganisms and food-borne pathogens. To better understand the mode of action and the spectrum of antifungal activity more clinical and laboratory studies of different Lactobacillus acidophilus strains are required.

Abstract. Commercial egg production is associated with various stresses decreasing productive and reproductive performance of layers. A growing body of evidence indicates that most of stresses in poultry production at the cellular level are associated with oxidative stress due to excess of free radical production or inadequate antioxidant protection. Recently, a concept of the cellular antioxidant defence has been revised with a special attention paid to cell signalling. Indeed, in animals, redox signalling pathways use reactive oxygen species (ROS) to transfer signals from different sources to the nucleus to regulate a number of various functions including growth, differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis. The vitagene concept of fighting stresses emerged as a new direction in a nutritional research. Indeed, by improving the adaptive ability of animals to stress it is possible tosubstantially decrease negative consequences of various stresses in poultry and farm animal production. The analysis of recently published data clearly showed that the anti-stress composition developed on the vitagene concept and supplied with drinking water is an effective means in fighting stresses in poultry production.

Abstract  The objective of these experimental trials was to determine the effect of a mannan oligosaccharide (MOS) derived from the outer cell wall of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain 1026 on the growth performance and immune status of rainbow trout. Two experiments were conducted, one with eight net cages and the other with eight raceways. The net cage experiment (42 days) involved 14,400 fish with an initial average weight of 30 g. The raceway experiment (90 days) was conduced with 40,000 fish with an initial average weight of 101 g. Both experiments compared a commercial extruded diet with and without 2,000 ppm MOS supplementation. The calculated daily feed was supplied in six equal rations. Body weight, feed intake, and mortality were recorded and samples were taken for analysis of indicators of immune status. All data were subjected to ANOVA, with a net cage or raceway regarded as an experimental unit. Significantly improved performance and immune status were observed in the net cage trial—improved weight gain of 13.7% (P < 0.01), reduced feed conversion ratio (FCR) (P < 0.05), reduced mortality (P < 0.01), and improved indicators of immune status (P < 0.01) for fish fed the MOS supplement compared with controls. Similar significantly improved performance was observed for the MOS-treated groups in the raceway trial—9.97% improved weight gain (P < 0.01), lower FCR (P < 0.01), and reduced mortality compared with the control treatment. In the raceway trials, however, only the indicators of immune status lysozyme concentration, APCA, and CPCA were significantly improved by MOS treatment (P < 0.05). We found that a novel optically-induced in-plane separation of plasmas of opposite charge is responsible for the large ring emission pattern around a laser excitation spot observed in modulation doped quantum well (QW) structures. The charge separation is a result of an interplay between the electrical field applied perpendicular to the QW and the diffusion of optically generated carriers in the QW plane. Excitonic emission at the sharp boundary between the positive and negative charges forms the ring. The initially hot carriers that are generated optically, cool as they diffuse and are therefore cold before they recombine at the ring. Such separation of charges was only observed when the excitation energy is above the barrier height of the QW. The effect of the lower energy excitation is found to be dramatically different, resulting in a shrinkage and even a total collapse of an existing ring pattern. (© 2004 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Introduction: Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common congenital heart disease with an increased risk of infective endocarditis (IE). Few data are available on isolated native BAV-IE. The aim of this study was to compare patients with tricuspid aortic valve (TAV) IE and BAV-IE in terms of characteristics, management and prognosis., Material and Methods: We included 728 consecutive patients with IE on isolated native aortic valve in 3 centres: Amiens and Marseille Hospitals in France and Salerno Hospital in Italy. We studied in hospital and long-term mortality before and after matching for age, sex and comorbidity index. Median follow-up was 67.2 [IQR: 19-120] months., Results: Of the 728 patients, 123 (16.9%) had BAV. Compared with patients with TAV-IE, patients with BAV-IE were younger, had fewer co-morbidities and were more likely to be male. They presented more major neurological events and perivalvular complications (both p  < 0.05). Early surgery (<30 days) was performed in 52% of BAV-IE cases vs. 42.8% for TAV-IE ( p  = 0.061). The 10-year survival rate was 74 ± 5% in BAV-IE patients compared with 66 ± 2% in TAV-IE patients ( p  = 0.047). After propensity score matching (for age, gender and comorbidities), there was no difference in mortality between the two groups, with an estimated 10-year survival of 73 ± 5% vs. 76 ± 4% respectively ( p  = 0.91)., Conclusion: BAV is a frequent finding in patients with isolated aortic valve IE and is associated with more perivalvular complications and neurological events. Background: The influence of different bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) morphology in the clinical course of infective endocarditis (IE) has not yet been investigated. This study aimed to describe the clinical and echocardiographic features of IE in patients with BAV (BAVIE) according to valve morphology., Methods: Patients with definite BAVIE prospectively enrolled in 4 high-volume referral centers from 2000 to 2019 were evaluated and divided into 2 groups according to the echocardiographic definition of fused BAV morphology: right-left coronary (RL type) and right noncoronary or left noncoronary (non-RL type) cusp fusion. All patients were followed up for 1 year., Results: One hundred thirty-eight patients with BAVIE were included (77.7% male; median age, 52 [36.83-61.00] years): 112 patients with RL type (81%) and 26 patients with non-RL type BAV (19%), with no significant differences in age, sex, and comorbidities between groups. Although 43% of the cohort had known BAV, the referral was late after symptom onset, particularly for the RL phenotype; time from symptom onset to hospitalization >30 days (31.3% vs 11.5%; P = .032) and New York Heart Association class ≥ II (64.3% vs 42.3%; P = .039) were more frequent in patients with RL type BAV than in patients with non-RL type BAV. Conversely, patients with non-RL type BAV had a higher incidence of hemorrhagic stroke (19.2% vs 5.4%; P = .034) and high-grade atrioventricular block (11.5% vs 0.9%; P = .021). Streptococcus viridans was more frequently isolated in patients with non-RL type BAV than in patients with RL type BAV (44% vs 24.1%; P = .045). No difference in short- and intermediate-term mortality was observed between groups., Conclusions: Clinical profile and echocardiographic features in BAVIE patients may differ according to valve morphology, and patients with BAVIE appear to be referred late, even when BAV disease is previously known., (Copyright © 2023 American Society of Echocardiography. The aim of the present investigation is to report the prevalence of spontaneous fractures associated with leg skeletal pathology and compromised welfare in commercial broiler chickens. Our studies focused on fractures of different leg segments (femur, tibiotarsus, tarsometatarsus) detected as incidental findings during pathoanatomic examinations in cases of rickets, tibial dyschondroplasia (TD), and femoral head necrosis (FHN). The morphogenetic and etiopathogenetic aspects of the findings were further investigated through histopathologic, bacteriologic, and bone mineral analyses. The gross anatomy study showed that in about 10% of bones affected by rickets-specific lesions, fractures of the proximal tibiotarsus were present. A relatively low percentage (6.5%) of fractures of the same anatomic location could be attributed to TD lesions. The highest prevalence of fractures (68.5%), mainly of the proximal femur, was associated with FHN and osteomyelites. The results from the large-scale field surveys allowed us to confirm that the prevalence of spontaneous bone fractures of the legs in broiler chickens was largely associated with FHN, rickets, and TD. The poor vascularization of the grown prehypertrophic cartilage in cases of rickets and TD, as well as the osteolytic lesions in FHN, resulted in degenerative, necrobiotic processes which may entail bone fractures.

High-performance piezoelectrics are lead-based solid solutions that exhibit a so-called morphotropic phase boundary, which separates two competing phases as a function of chemical composition; as a consequence, an intermediate low-symmetry phase with a strong piezoelectric effect arises. In search for environmentally sustainable lead-free alternatives that exhibit analogous characteristics, we use a network of competing domains to create similar conditions across thermal inter-ferroelectric transitions in simple, lead-free ferroelectrics such as BaTiO3 and KNbO3. Here we report the experimental observation of thermotropic phase boundaries in these classic ferroelectrics, through direct imaging of low-symmetry intermediate phases that exhibit large enhancements in the existing nonlinear optical and piezoelectric property coefficients. Furthermore, the symmetry lowering in these phases allows for new property coefficients that exceed all the existing coefficients in both parent phases. Discovering the thermotropic nature of thermal phase transitions in simple ferroelectrics thus presents unique opportunities for the design of 'green' high-performance materials.

Mycotoxic nephropathy was induced in eighteen young pigs by mouldy diets containing 0.5 ppm ochratoxin A (OTA) and/or 10 ppm fumonisin B1 (FB1) for three months. While the most obvious damages provoked by OTA were seen in the kidneys as expressed by the strong degenerative changes in proximal tubules and fibrosis in kidneys, FB1 was found to induce an increase in permeability of vessels mainly in lung, brain, cerebellum or kidneys and slight to moderate degenerative changes in kidneys. Pathomorphological damages in pigs exposed to both mycotoxins simultaneously present a combination of the main lesions provoked by each mycotoxin alone being stronger in their expression. Biochemical investigations as expressed by the increase of serum creatinine, urea and enzyme activity of ASAT/ALAT and by the decrease of serum cholesterol, total protein, albumin and glucose were strongest in pigs exposed to both mycotoxins simultaneously as can be anticipated form the strongest lesions in the kidneys. Both mycotoxins and their combination were found to disturb powerfully humoral immune response in all experimental pigs as expressed by the strong decrease in antibody titer against Morbus Aujesky at days 21 and 35 after vaccination. Having in mind that the feed levels of the both mycotoxins as well as the exposure time and the pathological findings corresponded to those in some spontaneous cases of porcine nephropathy in Bulgaria and South Africa, it can be concluded that the same mycotoxins are involved in the observed field cases of that nephropathy., (Copyright © 2011 Elsevier GmbH. Ferroelectric materials are used in applications ranging from energy harvesting to high-power electronic transducers. However, industry-standard ferroelectric materials contain lead, which is toxic and environmentally unfriendly. The preferred alternative, BaTiO(3), is non-toxic and has excellent ferroelectric properties, but its Curie temperature of ∼130 °C is too low to be practical. Strain has been used to enhance the Curie temperature of BaTiO(3) (ref. 4) and SrTiO(3) (ref. 5) films, but only for thicknesses of tens of nanometres, which is not thick enough for many device applications. Here, we increase the Curie temperature of micrometre-thick films of BaTiO(3) to at least 330 °C, and the tetragonal-to-cubic structural transition temperature to beyond 800 °C, by interspersing stiff, self-assembled vertical columns of Sm(2)O(3) throughout the film thickness. The columns, which are 10 nm in diameter, strain the BaTiO(3) matrix by 2.35%, forcing it to maintain its tetragonal structure and resulting in the highest BaTiO(3) transition temperatures so far.

Screening of proteins for crystallization under laser irradiation was investigated using six proteins: ribonuclease B, glucose dehydrogenase, lysozyme, sorbitol dehydrogenase, fructose dehydrogenase and myoglobin. Shining 532 nm green circularly polarized laser light with a picosecond pulse and 6 mW power for 30 s on newly set-up protein drops showed a marked improvement in the number of screen conditions amenable for crystal growth compared with control drops under identical conditions but without laser exposure. For glucose dehydrogenase and sorbitol dehydrogenase, larger and better quality crystals were formed and the resolution of X-ray diffraction was improved. The speed of crystallization increased in the case of ribonuclease B, lysozyme and sorbitol dehydrogenase. During laser irradiation, the amount of precipitation in the screened drops increased, indicating a transient decrease in protein solubility. At the optimized laser settings, there was no deleterious effect of the laser on crystal growth or on the protein. In the cases of ribonuclease B and lysozyme the crystal packing did not change owing to the laser exposure.

Biaxial strain is known to induce ferroelectricity in thin films of nominally nonferroelectric materials such as SrTiO3. By a direct comparison of the strained and strain-free SrTiO3 films using dielectric, ferroelectric, Raman, nonlinear optical and nanoscale piezoelectric property measurements, we conclude that all SrTiO3 films and bulk crystals are relaxor ferroelectrics, and the role of strain is to stabilize longer-range correlation of preexisting nanopolar regions, likely originating from minute amounts of unintentional Sr deficiency in nominally stoichiometric samples. These findings highlight the sensitive role of stoichiometry when exploring strain and epitaxy-induced electronic phenomena in oxide films, heterostructures, and interfaces.

Spontaneous nephropathy in pigs seen in South Africa was found to have multi-mycotoxic etiology involving several mycotoxins such as ochratoxin A (OTA), penicillic acid (PA) and fumonisin B1 (FB1) in addition to a not yet identified mycotoxin. Contamination levels of OTA were comparatively low (67-75 μg/kg) in contrast to high contamination levels of FB1 (5,289-5,021 μg/kg) and PA (149-251 μg/kg). A heavy contamination with Gibberella fujikuroi var. moniliformis and Penicillium aurantiogriseum complex (mainly P. polonicum) was observed in the fed forages in contrast to the light contamination with Aspergillus ochraceus, P. verrucosum and P. citrinum. The pathomorphological picture of this nephropathy was found to differ from the classical description of mycotoxic porcine nephropathy as originally made in Scandinavia by the extensive vascular changes.

We report the magnetic and electrical characteristics of polycrystalline FeTiO&#95;{3} synthesized at high pressure that is isostructural with acentric LiNbO&#95;{3} (LBO). Piezoresponse force microscopy, optical second harmonic generation, and magnetometry demonstrate ferroelectricity at and below room temperature and weak ferromagnetism below approximately 120 K. These results validate symmetry-based criteria and first-principles calculations of the coexistence of ferroelectricity and weak ferromagnetism in a series of transition metal titanates crystallizing in the LBO structure.

Oxygen octahedral rotations are the most common phase transitions in perovskite crystal structures. Here we show that the color symmetry of such pure elastic distortions is isomorphic to magnetic point groups, which allows their probing through distinguishing polar versus magnetic symmetry. We demonstrate this isomorphism using nonlinear optical probing of the octahedral rotational transition in a compressively strained SrTiO3 thin film that exhibits ferroelectric (4mm) and antiferrodistortive (4{'}mm{'}) phases evolving through independent phase transitions. The approach has broader applicability for probing materials with lattice rotations that can be mapped to color groups.

The combined toxic effect of ochratoxin A (OTA) and penicillic acid (PA) on the body mass, the weight and pathomorphology of some internal organs was studied in 85 broiler chickens fed a mouldy diet containing 130, 300 or 800 ppb OTA and 1000-2000 ppb PA. The main pathomorphological changes were cloudy swelling and granular degeneration in the epithelium and mononuclear cell proliferation and activation of capillary endothelium in the kidney and liver; degenerative changes and depletion of lymphoid cells in lymphoid organs (bursa of Fabricius, thymus and spleen) were also seen. Protective effects of 5% total water extract of artichoke and a new natural phytosubstance Rosallsat against these pathomorphological changes were observed. A significant decrease in body mass and relative weight of lymphoid organs was found after 6 weeks of exposure and a greater decrease after 10 weeks of exposure to OTA and PA, and a protective effect of artichoke extract and a slight effect of Rosallsat against that decrease was observed. A significant increase in relative weight of liver and kidneys was also observed as well as a protective effect of artichoke extract against that increase. The quantity of OTA and the percentage of positive samples were significantly lower in tissues of chickens treated with artichoke extract or Rosallsat in addition to OTA than in those treated with only OTA.

We report on new experiments and theory that unambiguously resolve the recent puzzling observation of large diameter exciton emission halos around a laser excitation spot in two dimensional systems. We find a novel separation of plasmas of opposite charge with emission from the sharp circular boundary between these two regions. This charge separation allows for cooling of initially hot optically generated carriers as they dwell in the charge reservoirs for very long times.

During the past ten years, coupled quantum wells have emerged as a promising system for experiments on Bose condensation of excitons, with numerous theoretical and experimental studies aimed at the demonstration of this effect. One of the issues driving these studies is the possibility of long-range coherent transport of excitons. Excitons in quantum wells typically diffuse only a few micrometres from the spot where they are generated by a laser pulse; their diffusion is limited by their lifetime (typically a few nanoseconds) and by scattering due to disorder in the well structure. Here we report photoluminescence measurements of InGaAs quantum wells and the observation of an effect by which luminescence from excitons appears hundreds of micrometres away from the laser excitation spot. This luminescence appears as a ring around the laser spot; almost none appears in the region between the laser spot and the ring. This implies that the excitons must travel in a dark state until they reach some critical distance, at which they collectively revert to luminescing states. It is unclear whether this effect is related to macroscopic coherence caused by Bose condensation of excitons.
