The influenceof maturation medium, serum and hormonal supplements, type of bovine oocyte, as well as the co-culture with granulosa cells for in vitro bovine oocytes maturation on the in vitro fertilization rate were investigated. Immature oocytes with cumulus cells were cultured with two different maturation media (M-199 and DM EM; Experiment 1). In Experiment 2, in vitro maturation was performed with two serum supplements and one hormonal supplement (FCS. ECS and PMSG+HCG). In Experiment 3. on vitro maturation was performed with two different bovine oocyte types (CEO and CDC) In Experiment 4. in vitro maturation was performed with or without the addition of granulosa cells. After in vitro oocyte maturation, oocytes were fertilized using frozen-thawed semen which was previously capacitated with bovine serum albumin and heparin for 15 minutes. The M-199 showed a fertilization rate higher (55 percent; p

Three experiments were carried out to investigate whether cumulus cells, Bovine Follicular Fluid (BFF) and granulosa cells, when added as supplements to the maturation medium, support the in virto maturation of immature bovine oocytes. In the first experiment, the maturation medium was supplemented with three different concentrations of the BF F (10, 20 and 50 p.100, respectively). In the second experiment, the effect of three different concentrations of the granulosa (1,10 y 100x 106 cells/ml, respectively), on in vitro oocyte maturation porcentages were evaluated. In the third experiment, the effect of the presence or absence of cumulus cells on the in vitro oocyte maturation rates was compared. Maturation rates at the metaphase II stage, following supplementation with 20 p.100 BFF (60 p.100) were significantly higher (p"O.05) than those obtained in control group (45 p.100). Significant differences between the 10 p.100 BFF, 20 p.100 BFF and 50 p.100 BFF treatments, were not observed. ml and the control treatments (90 p.100 and 85 p.100, respectively) were significantly higher (pa0.001) than when 10 and 10000" cells/ml (66 p.100 and 47 p.100, respectively) were added. Significant differences in the presence (78 p.100) or absence (62 p.100) of cumulus cells (p

In a sample of Retinto Beef Cattle under control of a breeding program in Andalusia, the average current inbreeding coefficient has been estimated. Ancestral information on 492 dams and 25 sires was analysed. The average current inbreeding coefficient (F) calculaled for the whole sample was 1.52 p.100 but the pedigree information was very incomplete. Taking into consideration only the females with information equal or greater than 25 p.100 in the third ancestral generation, the current inbreeding coefficient (F) ranged from 2.06 p,100 to 3.32 p.100 with information percentage at 100 p.100. The estimated F value inthese animals compared with those values obtained in other beef breeds is the highest at the present time, only being comparable to those reported by Kidd et al. (1980) for the Iberian Mertolenga and de Lidia breed. This work confirmed Kidd"s hypothesis (1980) concerning the great F value calculated in this breed. This is explained by breeding practices and inbreeding from mating dosely related animals (12.2 p.100 females showed a value of F>0 and 3-9 p. 100 showed F=25 p.100) Further work must be done in this field to estimate the current inbreeding coefficient of the breed which appears extremely high and to establish a mating policy.

The weekly milkyield of72 canarygoat breeding group raised on the experimental farm of the Centro de Investigación y Tecnología Agraria (Tenerife. Canary Islands) was recorded. All does were in their first lactation and were selected from the most representative local farms. During the control day does were hand milked once a day starting one week after kidding until the 32" week of lactation. Milk yield increased from 2.4 kg in the first control to milk yield peak (2.5 kg) in the fourth week, then decreased gradually and it was found that at the 32" week the milk yield was 1.4 kg. To fit our data the function proposed by Cooby and Le Du (1978) had the smaller error mean square. y-=a( I -e-h")-cx Han sido controladas las producciones de 72 cabras de la Agrupación Caprina Canaria mantenidas en condiciones experimentales en el Centro de Investigación y Tecnología Agraria (Tenerife. Islas Canarias).

An intersex goat of Malagueña breed with a karyotype which is clearly different from that of the rest of the species as regards number and shape was studied. The karyotype was formed by 59 chromosomes all of them acrocentric with the exception of one large metacentric chromosome. The morphometric study of the latter showed us that it was the result of a robertsonian translocation between chromosomes of pairs 10 and 12.
