This article presents a brief overview of research relating to teens, libraries, and social media. It also summarizes a recent multimethod study of how public and school libraries fit into U.S. teens’ increasingly online information lives. The study results debunk five popular myths about teens and social media and reveal many positive ways that teens are using social media to connect with peers and adults and to seek and share information. The article concludes with a discussion of the role that libraries can play in designing services and programs to encourage teens to engage in positive social media use. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

The literature suggests that approximately 93% of all pacemaker lead fractures occur in the segment of the lead lateral to the venous entry, and costoclavicular compression has been implicated. While blood vessels can be compressed by movements of the clavicle, our research suggests that lead and catheter damage in that region is caused by soft tissue entrapment rather than bony contact. Dissection of eight cadavers with ten leads revealed that two entered the cephalic vein, and were not included in the study. Of the other eight leads, four passed through the subclavius muscle, two through the costoclavicular ligament, and two through both these structures before entering the subclavian, internal jugular, or brachiocephalic vein. Anatomical studies demonstrated that entrapment by the subclavius muscle or the costoclavicular ligament could cause repeated flexing of leads during movements of the pectoral girdle. Cineradiology of patients with position dependent catheter occlusion confirmed entrapment by the subclavius muscle. Soft tissue entrapment imposes a static load upon leads and catheters, and repeated flexure about the point of entrapment may be responsible for damage previously attributed to cyclic costoclaviculur compression. Background: Exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) is considered to be an effective, low‐risk therapy in the treatment of Crohn's disease (CD). Frequent dietetic support may assist adults to succeed. The present observational study aimed to compare whether the frequency of dietetic support during EEN therapy was associated with differences in clinical and nutritional outcomes across two gastroenterology inflammatory bowel disease services. Site A provided ≥3 visits plus more if clinically indicated and Site B provided weekly support. Methods: Eligible patients were adults with active CD recommended to be treated with oral EEN for ≥6 weeks between February 2018 and December 2019. Demographic, anthropometric, clinical, medications, pathology and EEN treatment descriptors were sourced from the medical chart. Descriptive statistics, as well as chi‐squared and t tests, were used to compare data between sites. Results: Eighty‐four CD patients were eligible (44 ± 14 years, 54% female, baseline Crohn's disease activity index [CDAI] 259.5 ± 113.1, n = 51 Site A) and completed EEN for median (range) 6.1 (1–12) weeks. Most patients (82%, n = 69/84) completed ≥6 weeks of EEN treatment. CDAI score and calprotectin improved across the total sample from pre‐ to post‐EEN by −109.8 ± 92.1 (p < 0.001) and −65 µg g–1 (−65,230 to 4370) (p = 0.002), respectively. Dietitian occasions of service were more frequent at Site B (7 [4–12] occasions vs. 3 [1–8], p < 0.001). However, changes in clinical and biomarker data were similar between sites (p < 0.05). Conclusions: EEN with regular dietetic input resulted in clinical and biochemical improvements for patients with active CD. Tailoring dietetic support based on the client's needs and preference may achieve clinical improvements similar to providing weekly dietetic support to adults on EEN. Sarcopenic obesity is associated with several negative health outcomes. However, the prevalence of this condition – and the relationship to physical performance parameters – varies across definitions. The aim of this cross-sectional investigation was to describe the prevalence of sarcopenic obesity using different published definitions and their relationship with handgrip strength and walking speed in older Canadian adults. Individuals aged 65+ in the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (n = 11,803; 49.6% male, 50.4% female) were included. Body composition was measured using dual X-ray absorptiometry. Sarcopenic obesity was defined using 29 definitions. Low handgrip strength was identified as < 27 kg in males and < 16 kg in females and poor physical performance was defined as gait speed ≤ 0.8 m/s. The prevalence of sarcopenic obesity ranged from 0.1 to 85.3% in males, and from 0 to 80.4% in females. Sarcopenic obesity was frequently associated with low handgrip strength (p < 0.05) in both males (14/17 definitions, 82.4%) and females (21/29 definitions, 72.4%). In very few definitions, sarcopenic obesity was associated with slow gait speed (males: 1/17 definitions [6.7%]; females: 2/29 [6.9%]). In conclusion, the prevalence of sarcopenic obesity varied greatly according to definitions and sarcopenic obesity was frequently associated with low handgrip strength. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Melbourne Health (MH) Social Work Residential Care Team (RCT) was established in 2002 as a new and innovative approach to aged care. The service employs three full-time social workers and an Allied Health assistant with previous experience in aged care. The RCT works across the MH continuum of care with inpatients recommended for residential care. The service is predominantly patient- and family-focused, but is also consultative to meet the education needs of MH staff and the community. This paper discusses the MH Social Work Residential Care model, reviews data collected since RCT implementation and the benefits shown for patients, their families and interdisciplinary staff. This paper discusses pressures and factors that impinge on the ability to discharge patients to residential care and explores recommendations for ongoing clinical practice as well as recommendations that the RCT has submitted to management for further consideration.
